  1. INTJ. Fairly accurate, considering the limited size of the questionnaire.
  2. He's quite profitable: it's just that he is not willing to do anything to increase profits.
  3. Freedom is not just for individuals. While the government has begun to designate other organizations as terrorist operations for political purposes we will know to worry. To actually have freedom of speech though, it needs to run both ways: anyone is free to criticism anyone else. Counter-protest and dissent are just as necessary. Y Guy, I'll pretty much have to offer a raincheck on that for the moment: I'm developing how I feel about the relativity of moral behavior, but I feel that it isn't well enough defined yet to offer in an argument.

Going to buy a Kindle: pain in the butt for shipping though, since I'm Canadian.... I can pay to have it shipped internationally, or I can pay for expedited shipping so my Dad can pick it up when he's in Cleveland.
  5. In the immortal words of Captain Reynolds: "If someone tries to kill you, you kill 'em right back." (Note: this does not apply to the death penalty, which is not defensive but retributive.) Freedom in itself is not "a side" (Awkward phrasing, but it shall do.) When you stand up for the rights of another individual, you are standing up for collective humanity. Our rights and freedoms are inextricably linked. For some reason another quote comes to mind: "I do not agree with a word you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." ~ Voltaire.
  6. I believe Songbird has an addon that will allow you to view and delete duplicates.
  7. They have an interesting platform: they're certainly less centrist that any party that Canada has. In some ways that isn't a bad thing, though: we end up with less conservative Conservatives, but Liberals that can hardly even be considered liberal.
  8. You are misrepresenting the issue. This is not simply a matter of "I like vanilla, you like chocolate". I believe in free speech for all. I also believe in telling people when they're being stupid. I would protest if a KKK meeting was shut down, I would protest if a church was disbanded, even though I would actually never support either organization. That would be a violation of free speech, association, and practice of religion. I'm a civil libertarian, but my position concerns words not actions. As I've said before, the KKK is nothing but empty rhetoric as of late, a way for white men to get together, drink, pretend they're children again, and moan "they took our jobs." When someone attempts to deprive someone of their rights, you are complicit if you stand by. As for people not posting because they fear they will be shouted down, I have nothing to offer. If you are too uncertain of the evidence to post an opinion, then you should seriously reconsider your conclusion. There are conservatives on this forum: they routinely make their opinions known concerning matters of religion, politics and economics. I think you underestimate their stubbornness. You are asking those of us who support equality to be open to dissenting opinions. I absolutely agree with that. However, I will offer mine in turn. I do understand why people seek to deprive homosexuals of their rights: they were brainwashed, very efficiently, for the most part, as children (Note: not necessarily by religious organizations, but that is often the case.) When you have something drilled into your head from the moment you are born, I understand that it would be a huge trial to escape its hold. But something being difficult is not an excuse for not making the attempt. Have a problem with gays? Fine, keep it to yourself: North Americans learned to do that pretty quickly concerning race and ethnicity. Deprive someone of their rights, and you are not just an enemy of them, but of myself and every other individual committed to the freedom of humanity.
  9. I'm assuming that you're referring to the presidential election. Why did you vote Democrat?

  14. There is a significant disparity between the political party closest in line with my beliefs (the New Democratic Party) and the political party that I support. Did anyone else find this?
  15. It is illegal for a corporation to be environmentally responsible beyond the requirement of law, unless it is profitable for shareholders. Corporations are externalization machines: their sole purpose is to offload the cost of their profits onto society, the environment, and their workers. They are a corruption of capitalism, created by a legal error, and fundamentally psychopathic. Essential reading: http://www.amazon.com/Corporation-Pathological-Pursuit-Profit-Power/dp/0743247442
  16. Corporations serve themselves, not the people. It is actually illegal for a corporation to engage in behavior that does not serve its shareholders. It is an externalization machine, that methodically unloads the cost of its profits onto society, the environment, and its own employees. It is a psychopathic entity, created in its modern form through a legal error.
  17. Inglorious Basterds again. Like alcohol, not as good the second time around, but not a bad movie.
  18. A large farm might be possible, but there are numerous inherent issues: It will be extremely expensive to operate. Less per calorie produced yes, but the start-up and operational costs would be much larger than something like Polyface farm's, if it was to be worthwhile. In our current economic system, that would necessitate it being run by a corporation, which inherently does not concern itself with the environmental, social, and ethical impact of it's ownership. As such, a regulatory agency must be placed in charge on monitoring it. Now, so far the EPA has proven to be mostly ineffective, heavily influenced by corporate influences concerning GMOs, and a recipient of intensive criticism by both the left (who believe it is ineffective) and the right (who believe it is inexpensive/necessary.) A complete overhaul of both it's powers, responsibilities and funding would be necessitated. At this point, the owners of the farm can now pursue policies which violate the actual spirit of sustainable agriculture: ship it across the country? No problem. Beef prices too high? Well, maybe we can keep them in CAFOs for part of the year. At this point, we have come full-circle back to the original issue, which is of industrial agriculture. That could happen to smaller farm: at which point they are bought out, bankrupted, or simply steamrolled by agri-business interests. They simply cannot compete on the same playing field as companies like ConAgra. Then, we can move on to some of the inefficiencies that are inherent to it, such as land required, difficulty in maintaining a cohesive philosophy when management is hands-off, and the increased drive towards mechanization that is found on a larger scale.
  19. A perfect vacuum must be hard to obtain with standard clothing material.
  20. Chances are that you will find that you don't rest squarely in one camp; very few people (myself included) do. Here's where to start: My linkhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic_system Start reading, consider different systems, then go to the library with a list of books concerning systems you find interesting. Read something from every camp, no matter how misguided it seems, and check all sources. I highly recommend Naomi Klein's The Shock Doctrine, which is a criticism of Shock & Awe capitalism campaigns run by Freidmanites worldwide, and The Corporation which concerns the inherent failings of corporations and the market systems that they support. (As you can see, I'm offering some pretty leftist stuff, but I strongly advice at least considering it.) E: Perhaps there's room in this forum for a thread where everyone can just duke it out over economics and politics. That could help everyone (myself particularly) stay more on-topic.
  21. Mp3 player, a scrap of paper containing my hours at work, microSD adapter, and pasta sauce. I was making dinner and somehow managed to get some of it into the front pocket, even though I don't remember touching it.

I'm currently experimenting with salicylic acid, and an oatmeal moisturizer to counteract the dryness. For me however, acne is primarily triggered by diet and stress, so I really can't offer a definitive opinion on it's effectiveness. Changing your pillowcase frequently also helps.
  23. If you don't wear skinny jeans, it's actually quite comfortable.
  24. I have no idea how people can arrive at the conclusion of: "we need corporate interests to run our lives instead of the government."
  25. I've only seen a few in 3D, and probably the only movie that wasn't worse for it was Avatar, and even then it wasn't worth the extra couple bucks.
