I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the absolutely atrocious writing of this article.

Yeah, the point is they both sound completely different but are still progressive metal bands. Progressive metal has been around for nigh-on 30 years and it has evolved so much in a short timespace. Go and listen to Fates Warning's "The Spectre Within" and then Opeth's "Blackwater Park" - old and new styles. I like both equally. You could argue about Gojira's genre for years, but it's just easier to call them progressive metal instead of calling them progressive death/groove/thrash metal. Symphony X is progressive power metal and they aren't more musically complex than Gojira. Just a hint: sweeping and shredding is nowhere near as musical as slow, technical progression.

Heh. Yeah. I have never understood the reason why people are so adverse to harsh vocals being used in metal. Here's a hint for you: if you've only ever heard bands that are most likely featured in Kerrang, you don't qualify for an opinion on growls. Even Metal Hammer has a better opinion on what constitutes to a metal band than Kerrang, and we all know how bad metal magazines are. I'm not really pointing the finger at anyone here, but if you've only heard Cannibal Corpse, Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet for My Valentine and Atreyu, of course you are going to hate harsh vocals. They aren't exactly exemplary examples of how harsh vocals should be used in heavier music. Opeth - Beneath the Mire

I usually just use my desktop, and I've been reading that PCI cards are generally a much better solution for desktop wireless use. I'm not too bothered about the link speed of the card because I don't seem to hit above 135Mbps on my home network. The simplest solution would be to use an ethernet cable... but that's not really possible when you have 4 other people who want to connect to the Internet in a large house! Oh, I forgot to mention that my router is a Netgear DGN2000, if this helps any.

My USB wireless adapter seems to show signs that it is on its way out. It's a Tenda W311U, which uses the Ralink 2870 chip. It doesn't handle much throughput before lagging me out either, so I think it's time to get a new one. I'm leaning more towards a PCI card, but here is my problem: everyone seems to have a different opinion about each card, and I'm not well-versed enough in networking equipment to make a concrete decision. I'm looking for a draft-N wireless PCI card, preferably under £50. Suggestions for USB adapters are welcomed if you've had experience with them. I've had pretty rough times with Netgear stuff in the past, but I have no idea if they've changed or not nowadays. Recommend away. Uh emo is a genre of music, kiddo. Since when did bands have to have something in common to belong to the same genre? Here's a handy example for you. However, they sound completely different yet belong to the same subgenre of heavy metal; your point is hereby moot.

If you like Master of Reality by Black Sabbath, check out Electric Wizard and to a lesser extent, Church of Misery. A lot of this 'stoner doom' is garbage and almost an insult to doom metal, but those two bands really stood out to me amongst the slew of copycats. Hell, if you like Black Sabbath in general, you need to check out Reverend Bizarre, Candlemass, Warning and Lord Vicar. I don't really listen to 'pure' heavy metal at all; I find it pretty bland and uninspiring. However, when you slow it down... it becomes a whole new level of awesome.

Picked up Gorod's Process of a New Decline, Cult of Luna's Eternal Kingdom and Gojira's From Mars to Sirius today. I meant to get them a while ago.

I've not really found a decent 'pure' heavy metal band in the past twenty years apart from 3 Inches of Blood, a band that is okay at very best.

VLC should play anything you want straight up. I use CCCP (a collection of filters but notably containing the ffdshow video decoder) and Media Player Classic Homecinema with the CoreAVC H.264 decoder.

Solefald - When the Moon Is On the Wave

Not to sound like a snob, but emo in its truest form actually has a lot of relation to the punk, more specifically hardcore movement - listen to Husker Du, Rites of Spring, I Hate Myself, and Sunny Day Real Estate (to a lesser extent). Zierro already said it.

Not so much full songs, but I've had sections of riffing from Gojira's Oroborous and Yama's Messengers stuck in my head. I never, ever seem to get 'catchy' pop stuck in my head; however, I can seem to memorise sections of complex riffs and drum patterns just fine. I don't know what's up there.

I ran avast! for many years before recently installing Avira Antivir. It's pretty decent.

It really depends on how long it takes your router to assign an IP, if you're using the DHCP method versus static (where you input your connection information into your adapter's settings manually).

You "can't" really do it - there is going to be downtime even if you switch networks. If you had the security key for the second network, it would most probably connect automatically.
