I love Dwogres + Cannoneers
Ok, I should have said it more clearly. When I saw the thread title I was thinking "dragon pickaxe drop". Turns out, I was right. :D So...what do you mean about "grats anyways"?

*Diet* questions
I would still focus more on the minutes than the miles. I think 1.5 miles is plenty of distance to have an effective HIIT session with, especially for someone in poor health. I mean yeah, once you get into better shape, your "lows" are gonna be at the pace of like a 6-7 minute mile and your "sprints" are gonna be at like a 5 minute mile...so a 30 minute session will give you 4+ miles. But for someone who might be like at a speed-walking pace in their "lows" they just aren't gonna cover the same mileage. Bottom line is that smart cardio focuses on your state of body and your heart rate. If I walked into the gym and said "Yup imma run 4 miles today" sometimes I would get a good training session in, sometimes I wouldnt. You need to just focus on interval technique and learning what your body is doing. Miles and minutes are both horrible goals for a cardio session (again, unless you are an athlete who is focused on performance. but for someone looking for weight loss, miles and minutes tell you nothing about how much you achieved towards your goal of losing weight)

*Diet* questions
What Bloodstain posted said that HIIT was better for weight loss than long duration, steady state cardio. Long duration cardio is only beneficial to those looking to improve heart and lung function, lower their blood pressure, and other "health" benefits. High intesnity burst cardio is for weight loss. It is a well known fact that exercising for a long time will increase the levels of cortisol in your bloodstream. Cortisol greatly hinders fat loss. Also, exercising for long periods of time puts a bigger stress on your immune and edocrine system. Not to mention....it just takes more time. With a high intensity interval session, you can accomplish more in 15-30 minutes than you could in a 1 hr or longer jog. The human body just isnt designed to run for that long. We needed to run after prey, and run away from prey. Nobody's body is built for doing that type of activity and it really just is unnecessary stress. I mean, its one thing if you are looking to become a marathon runner/athlete, but if you just want to lose weight and/or build muscle, then long duration steady-state cardio simply is not for you. It is harder on the joints, it is more boring, it is harder on your various vital systems, and it just plain takes longer to get the same results you would with HIIT.

Motives begind criminal actions
Basically, everyone does things that they think are in their own interest. So, a shoplifter steals because he wants an item, and would rather risk getting caught than have to pay for the item. Many criminals do not really care about their lives in the same way that other people do. As far as gang members are concerned, many gangs actually strive to be put in jail. Its all about what you want. For the "good people" you have a sense of morality. If you could mug somebody, and know you would make $1,000 dollars, and know that you wont get caught, would you mug the person? If the answer is yes, then you want the money more than you would dislike the feeling of guilt. If you answered no, that means you think that having an innocent concious is more valuable than having $1,000 dollars. Its really just all about what you want. People are selfish. Even people who do volunteer work all the time are selfish because they are doing what gives them the most satisfaction.

Extreme Sports?
The cheapest extreme sport is mountain biking. Buy a cheap mountain bike on craigslist, go to a state park with a really hilly trail, and go nuts.

Does your $5 loyaly membership keep you from quiting Runescape?
I have a large loyalty to Jagex. I have barely had time to play this game in the past couple months, but I haven't even thought of canceling my subscription. I mean if I live for 100 more years, I'll end up spending ~5000 more dollars on this game. I'm kinda okay with that. I've played since I was in middle school (gosh...close to 10 years ago) and the only times I stopped subscribing were when my mom stopped paying for discipline reasons...lol Now that I have my own cards, I just let my membership keep renewing and never even stop to think about it.

Blizzard to require real names for forums
If we live in a society where we can't even tell people our names... MAYBE THIS IS AN INDICATION THAT TOO MUCH OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION IS BEING SHARED ONLINE Seriously...people are like "OMG but if he knows my name then he can look at my facebook and my ____ and ____"......christ, it is just your name. I don't think theres a problem with what Blizz wanted to do. I think theres a problem with how we behave on the Interwebz...

Well, this looks fun. (VERY nsfw)
Well...the fighting looked like some good martial arts. Its strange though, that it seems like he wants to make the movie about a bunch of hardened criminals. Most of the MK characters have a story of being trained in asia in martial arts...like sub zero was trained with monks and such. Now it looks like theyre gonna make him into Mr. Freeze basically. Interesting concept.

UFC 116: Main Event - Fixed?
Theres a difference between what lesnar was doing and what you usually see called. When you see a fight called for something like that, usually the fighter is in a daze and losing conciousness, but has his hands in front of his face by reflex. (like when you see a boxer get knocked out and hes laying on his back punching) Usually when this happens, the person on top gets free reign with direct, blunt hits. In lesnar's case, he was actively defending himself and looking for punches to deflect. Also Carwin's hits were fairly indirect. I mean obviously the right call was made since Lesnar was still able to turn on the heat later in the round. If he was on his back till the bell rang, and then he got up and lumbered to his corner, I would say that the fight might have been justifiably stopped. But he just wasnt that hurt.

The Last Airbender
Actually I have no idea what people are talking about with the whole racism BS. Ang is pretty white, but he also has very pale skin in the show. I really can't tell if he is supposed to be chinese or anything by looking at his face in the cartoon... Also, the Water nation is NOT supposed to be asian. If you watch the cartoon, the water tribe is clearly supposed to be a reference to the Alaskan native tribes or eskimo. Their skin is the wrong shade and their eyes are the wrong shape. It might just be the fact that I am a native american and can tell the difference between a caucasian and someone with possible native roots...I mean here is the water princess: If you guys think shes your average white girl then I'm sorry, you need to have your eyes checked. Katara and Sokka look very white though, but at least they are clearly not purely irish, british, or german. I think they may be italian, but I think theres a chance they have some native blood. As for the other two tribes, the fire and earth tribes... The fire tribe, in the cartoon, is asian. Shymalan casted all middle-eastern actors for this nation. Racism, right...okay. I haven't seen as many middle easterners in any other movie. And the earth tribe, theyre chinese in the show and were all chinese in the movie. So two actors out of the whole cast might be slightly too white for their tribe. Damn, people are sensitive. I mean Ang's favorite monk was a god damned black man. WTF SHYMALAN RACIST YO

The Last Airbender
Yeah I mean its nothing worth writing home about. I think the only reason for making it is to have a fun experiment with transforming a cartoon into live action. Also I mean come on, it is a PG movie. What PG live-action movie has ever been good? I think the acting needed to be purposely dumbed down so that the pre-teen audience could still be entertained. And I didn't see it n 3D...I dont see anything in 3D. I think its completely ridiculous how much of a fad the whole 3D thing has become. 3D has been around for forever, in places like Disney world. Now all of a sudden people want to apply it to feature length movies...I really dont understand. Its just some silly gimmick or something. Yeah I had her watch the first episode when we got home and she enjoyed it. Maybe the movie is a marketing tool for encouraging people to watch the cartoon  Oh, and I thought that the last 30-40 minutes of the movie was far better than the first hour.

Car or a bus?
It sounds like the bus would really take a long time...I dont know how it works where you live, but making 5 transfers would probably end up taking like an hour in waiting times... So youre basically wasting an hour each way...two hours a day. And I dont know about you, but I wouldnt be able to do any kind of work on the bus. So youre gonna be wasting a lot of time that you will really need to study. TBH I would live near school if you can. It might be the most expensive option, but in reality it saves a lot of time and hassle. First year of college can be a pain, and I dont know if I wouldve made it if I had a long ass drive every day...

The Last Airbender
I saw it last night and enjoyed myself. I mean, technically speaking, it wasn't a good movie. But how can you make a "good" movie based on a Nickelodeon cartoon with a plot based on 4 nations of people who can bend the elements, and a main character who is basically the Dalai Lama of this world? I mean the plot is just ridiculous. Theres no way that someone could make a "good" movie from that premise. In order to make the movie a technically "good" movie, Shymalan would have needed to abandon much of the cartoon's wackiness. I mean he even had the balls to include a giant hairy mammoth monster that flies without wings or anything. When I first saw the previews I was worried that Appa wouldnt make it into the movie because of how silly it looks. The problem is that the show is a certain mix between serious, whimsical, humorous, and fantasy. This style works well for a cartoon. When you take the same style and apply it to a live action movie, people can't accept it. If you watch the show, I bet youll enjoy the movie. I went with my girlfriend, who has never seen the show, and she actually ended up really enjoying it. In fact, at the end of the movie (when it left us with the cliffhanger) she turned to me and said "Aww! You mean thats where it ends?" On a side note, I should mention that I have 14 years of martial arts experience, and I love any movie that brings authentic martial arts styles into Hollywood.

Help Designing a Workout Plan
Yeah if it is a time constraint and not a hunger constraint, I would definitely suggest trying to make time for some real good food. Breakfast should be a nice big meal loaded with nutrients. A fast (and good) breakfast would be something like a waffle smeared with peanut butter, a scoop of whey mixed with water (or milk), and a banana or two (or 1-2 pieces of any other fruit like an orange or apple) http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-833-WHEY+PROTEIN.aspx?activeIngredientId=833&activeIngredientName=WHEY+PROTEIN&source=2 Whey protein powder is just dehydrated whey, which is a natural dairy product. Just let her know that you are using it simply as a food supplement to help get some extra protein in your body. Also, you could do some calculations and show her that whey is the cheapest way to get your protein. Yes. VERY YES. haha Most people who "arent flexible" are simply too weak. When you bend, if your muscles arent strong enough, they will tense up and prevent you from bending any further because they are "afraid" to let you bend that far. Strength training promotes heart health, proper blood pressure, central nervous system function, good circulation, and flexibility.

The exact time of YOUR death...
I would want to know. My goal in life is to accomplish something big, something that helps people, something that influences a lot of people in a positive way. My current plan is to get a career going before I worry about my life goal. If I could find out when I am going to die, it would let me know if I needed to start achieving my goal sooner than expected.

Help Designing a Workout Plan
For beginners, I always reccomend ON 100% Gold Standard Whey. It is very cheap, tastes great, mixes great, and has a good generic balance of nutrients. Bloodstain's link is a solid protein, too. But unflavored whey definitely can put off a beginner. For those of us who constantly drink whey shakes, it is easy for us to forget what it was like to taste our first whey product. It isn't that whey tastes BAD or anything, its just that it has a DIFFERENT flavor and texture. So those who have never had a whey shake will sometimes even have difficulty with the best tasting flavors. I would definitely stick to a small tub or pouch of ON Gold Standard. I reccomend small quantities so you can try out the flavors. It might be tempting to get the best value and say to yourself "Oh I'm sure I can choke it down" but it can be a big mistake. Also, don't just drink a simple shake mixed with water or milk for breakfast. Make sure you have some type of fruit or something with it. Is there a reason you want to "replace" your breakfast? Rushed in the morning? Lack of apetite?

Help Designing a Workout Plan
I agree with this so much. As a beginner you have no real muscular development. Once you've been lifting for a year or so you can start worrying about whether you have any strange proportions. And if you hit the gym 3 times per week, and consistently eat enough protein and enough calories, you should be able to see good results in 6-8 weeks. (I'm talking like...actually nice changes. Not just tiny alterations. I mean, once you lift for a week or two youll probably notice your muscles way more) I have a "motto" for this: In one month, you will likely not see progress. In two months, you will really notice the changes. In three months, your friends and family will be asking you for your secrets. (if you keep consistent)

Help Designing a Workout Plan
Its not that it is too difficult to do cardio and lift at the same time, its just that doing that extra cardio will burn calories and if you overdo it, the muscle you are gaining might be consumed for your cardio routines. It is very difficult for skinny lanky guys to start gaining weight while they are doing tons of cardio. Adequate rest is extremely important for your body. Even if you feel like you would be able to run, it doesnt mean that it wont interfere with muscle growth.

Help Designing a Workout Plan
This is really the best way to start out. Except it varies for each person.. for example, I do: chest+triceps back+legs shoulders+biceps+abs As you can see there's not THAT much deviation, and each part of the body is trained in a week. And as you keep going, you'll notice some muscles aren't as sore as others and you can work those twice per week (sometimes I work my chest more than twice a week). Some would argue that it is really best to do back + biceps on the same day, so that you can do things like heavy weighted pullups. A lot of lat exercises use some biceps. Also I like my workout to be based around my progress in the 3 main lifts, squat deadlift and bench press. I cant imagine doing squat and deadlift in the same day... :ohnoes: EDIT: Just wanted to clarify that I'm not really saying urdoinitwronglol but I just wanted to show that there ARE some "reasons" to do it the way I suggested. I say "reasons" because honestly a lot of lifting is just superstition. "Bro science" as it is called. The real main principles are to eat a lot of food, eat enough of fat protein and carbs, lift heavy, and get plenty of rest. The rest of the things like "a post workout shake is completely necessary" or "have 20g of protein before during and after a workout" or "dont do ___ on the same day as ___" a lot of that is just really over analysis.

So, guess I'm gonna start hitting the gym again.
Any gains, bro?

Help Designing a Workout Plan
Lift heavy weights, eat tons of food, make sure you get enough protein (1g+ of protein per pound so 140+ grams a day for you) make sure you get enough fat (0.4g-0.6g per pound) and fill the rest with carbs. Firstly, toning is a complete myth. A muscle will get larger or smaller. "Tone up" is meaningless. That phrase was sold to you by the media. 1. Where should I get started with cardio [i like swimming more than running :P] and strength training? If you want to build fast muscle, I would not worry much about cardio. Especially since you already ride your bike. It is nice to say "I want to get these muscles and lose fat and blah blah blah" but for a beginner, you really need to pick one goal at a time and try to make sure you have success before adding other goals. 2. What are the recommended supplements, for a borderline vegetarian? Vegetarianism isn't going to matter for supplements. (you mean you dont eat meat, right? you still eat animal products?) If you still eat animal products, whey protein is a great supplement. If you dont eat animal products, a hemp protein, rice protein, or pea protein powder work also. You should also get a multi vitamin, and flax seed oil pills. 3. Anything else I need to know? Understand the concept of muscle growth. When you do something that your muscles havent done before, muscle fibers get torn apart. Using the food you feed your body, new fibers will be built and will likely be larger than the old ones. This means that if you do 3 sets of 8 reps with bicep curls at 20 pounds every single week, your muscles are not going to be growing. You need to always be trying to force yourself to do more reps that you did before, or more weight. Also, understand that the most important concept of muscle growth is the repair process. It takes time for your muscles to build. If you do a full body workout every single day, you will not see growth! You should do each body part usually only once per week. Sometimes you can do it twice in a week, but most people who know what they are doing really only work on each part once per week. I advise a simple training split Monday: Chest + triceps Wednesday: Back + biceps Friday: Legs + shoulders

No Sex Please, We're Middle Class
I think the reason we are having sexual "problems" is because we are being sold sex. We went so long with sex being a very mysterious, intimate experience. Now we are being sold sexy images that tell us what should be sexy, we are being sold sex toys that tell us what is enjoyable, and we are sold sexual techniques that create some silly "guidelines" for what sex should be. Not to mention all of the hollywood sexual experiences that are depicted on screen and are completely unrealistic. I was watching a show on Discovery Health about these 3 women who had unsatisfactory sex lives. They were all implanted with an electrode that was supposed to stimulate them. Only one of the women had achieved...erm...a "sucess" with the device (multiple "sucesses" if you get my drift). The other two had no success. But, what I found the most interesting, the woman who managed to make the device work for her seemed much more optimistic and realistic. The two women who had no luck with the device were constantly beating themselves up, feeling like they were "broken", had visibly lower self esteem, etc...I really think that sexual problems are purely mental. I dont remember where I saw the information, but they also did a study on placebo Viagra. I dont remember the percentages but I do remember it being a significant ammount (definitely over 25%) of men who reported that they had success with the "Viagra" even though it was, in reality, a placebo.
