  1. Why on Earth should the ships stop even if the Israeli's warned them, in international waters? Israel has no jurisdiction there and that's exactly what this boils down to. That's utterly stupid logic, boarding them in international waters is a crime, at a simplistic level it's like a burglar breaking into your house and then acting surprised when the home-owner gets defensive. Even if the ships were carrying arms (which as far as I'm aware there's no evidence for) they wouldn't become more dangerous when they entered Israeli controlled waters and tried to bypass (an illegal!) blockade. The Gaza Freedom flotilla was a publicity stunt to try and raise awareness of the blockade (ironically, they've succeeded), sending five slow moving ships laden with weapons probably wouldn't do their cause much good. It was naive of Israel to think these were ships carrying arms, and even if they did why does that contradict with the statements of the soldiers who said they didn't expect violence? The fact that ships are sailing towards a country, after ignorning every request or message sent to them, raises a red light. Then there's history of smuggling weapons to Gaza, that also raises a red light. Then there's the fact that the ships were not supervised, that also raises a red light. Then there's the fact that even after the IDF's helicopters went on their way, messages were sent again and again - and ignored. With all these red lights, the IDF had to react. It had no other choice. A search, for the millionth time, was obligatory. And when it comes to security, especially when it's Israel, no risks can be taken. None at all. If it boils down to the actions being taken in international waters, that's just petty IMO, because the same course of action would have taken place inside national waters, which is where my theory of "the faster the better & safer" makes more and more sense. SPOT ON. I really don't know what else to say. I completely agree Romy. there only the issue between doing something illegal, and something legal. It boils down to "if they waited it would have been legal" meaning it WAS illegal. The consequence? Egypt ended the blockade on their side. You can't let someone waltz all over you like they own the world, when they could have waited an hour, two tops, and done everything legally, so it would be defendable. Israel really make it hard to like them, although deep down i feel sympathy for them. their actions are getting harder and harder to defend; lowering themselves closer and closer to the terrorists on the other side, civilians caught in the middle.
  2. Yeah, I heard this theory from a w2 camping friend of mine. She told me that Phats updates after 2 are sold on ge while regular items updates after 100 are sold. That would explain why Divine updates like once a year while Phats updates once a week. P.S. Just to clarify - It means that at the regular time period of GE updates, it checks how many of those items are sold to decide if it should update or not. Kind of like an If then statement (not sure if I got that right, only took C# for 1 semester back in high school) Bladewing wasn't talking about individual items, if I got this right. He means: If x items (let's say 100 million) are traded (can be ANY item), the GE will perform a GENERAL update. Then, like most people know, it will check individual items to see how much they have to rise/fall. If an individual item hasn't been traded enough (let's say 100 for normal items, like you suggested), it won't update. well then a manipulation clan could trade millions of spirit shards back and forth, without risk, to manipulate updates happening more regularly when boosting the price of an item, then not doing anything as items crash. It could be tested relatively easily with a large merching cc. body runes could also be used, as could fire runes. Probably a host of other items as well, but these three are so stable it'd be basically risk-free.
  3. you don't really need teh cc though :P
  4. well yes, but all the items update in set ge updates. the "special updates" on particular items are only manual overrides as far as i know. so if an item updates in a ge update, that is based on quantity of items traded. but the whole ge updated, is probably based on times, that's what we need a formula for. anything else is graph examination, and forum checking :)
  5. with your 99 defence: no. rune defender is more efficient :)
  6. in this case, you follow international law. look at how serious a VERY similar example was, under the Cuban Missile Crisis. There are international regulations to avoid exactly that type of situation. if you have no legal jurisdiction to board a vessels, or search a person, you don't do it. another parallel example is that of apprehending a criminal in a different country, where you have no jurisdiction: Mullah Krekar is wanted for terrorism in many countries around the world. He has asylum in norway. You can't have an israeli police officer apprehend him here in norway for crimes against humanity. you can't apprehend him if he's fishing 65 miles from the israeli mainland. you have to wait to see if he's an idiot and enters your sovereign waters. otherwise it's piracy, and kidnapping. I don't object to the search, per say. I object to the illegal manner in which it was done. call it preventative, call it whatever you like, it's illegal, immoral and illogical. Considering the hypotheticals further: what if the ships intended on stopping on the international border, asking for permission to deliver aid, and be searched peacefully? what if the Israelis followed their own protocol in boarding ships for customs inspections, rather than dropping down in military helicopters with special forces troops? we'll never know. of course some of you will argue that the rhetoric of the demonstrators legitimized this kind of action. but it is just that: rhetoric, words; NOT actions. If norway moves all its navy towards the russian border, through international borders, that doesn't give the russians reason to attack, to board, to do anything. sovereign ships under sovereign have basic rights: of free travel, of fair treatment, of the laws of the land being followed. you cannot deny people their basic human rights. I basically agree with this lol, my main objection to Israel's action is that the searching occurred in international water. He appeared to state that the search itself was not condone-able regardless of location. I figured as much, so i took the liberty of quoting, and elaborating freely :P
  7. i think you are forgetting the blue footed booby.

  9. you are using a pack yak for the smelting, right? if not, that's an easy way to speed things up. the official blast furnace world is apparently also very fast for cheap smithing exp. if you bring feathers and shafts and make addy arrows that's supposed to be quite profitable. you can fletch the arrows as you run around the blast furnace as well. Haven't checked on prices or how full the world is ina while, so i don't really know if it still works. worth looking at though :)
  10. it really depends on use. for boss monsters, a godsword is usually quite effective. for slayer and the like, a whip and rune defender provides the fastest killing, substituted with a dfs when you really need defense bonus. a rapier (dungeoneering) is even more effective than a whip, so at the end of the day, it's up to you what type of weapon you want depending on what activities you like :)
  11. essence is easy to buy/ sell without loss due to fluctuations in price every day. I wouldn't worry too much about it, buy essence, get started, and get an accurate rate :)
  12. gaza is surrounded completely by isreali waters. there is no reason in the whole world why the Israelis couldn't wait untill they had legal jurisdiction to do exactly what they did. the isrealis were simply stupid in not waiting. this would all have been a non-issue if the event transpired closer to shore. If the protesters attacked in the same way as they arguably did, they'd be jailed for assaulting customs officers, like in any other country in the world. If they did not, and had not paid tax on the goods they brought into Israel en-route to Gaza, the goods could legally be siezed. The israelis acted unfathomably stupidly in my opinion. I don't know what to think on the issue itself: i'm too busy trying to understand the stupidity of the Israeli in command. what the hell was he/she thinking?
  13. Only problem here is that this is false... The ONLY thing a higher farming level does aside from being able to farm more items, is you have a higher Max Yield (Kind of useless considering your chances of getting a higher yield don't increase though) i've never seen proof of either of those claims. quite the contrary, my own farming logs (50 seeds at level 85, 50 at level 90) have shown both a greater average yield, and a lower death rate. show me a jagex quote, and i'll change that opinion.
  14. remember that for chinning, the grey chins are cheaper per exp than red chins. they are a bit slower though. I'd really suggest chinning of some sort, then using the spare time to make more money. I found that more fun than slaying range, because things seem to die sooo slowly even with the slayer helm :P
  15. by that time, it's too late for the best items. ge is camped, and is easy to camp while doing something else. edit: now the geupdate site has an update within the next 22 hours. so it seems their formula isn't really revolutionary, it's a start though :P
  16. Rejecting the reality of the current time and substituting one's own ideas in the great mass of extant concepts - that is creation. I don't see the difference, really. You still create new rules, and the whole experience may be a creation in itself - memories by that definition, daydreaming is also creation: the creation of nothing. Note; i play runescape, i substitute reality with imagination willingly. It serves purpose, but creates only the fleetingly ephemeral. creation must be meaningful to serve purpose: my purpose in playing runescape is relaxation and enjoyment. I acknowledge that, not a surrogate argument of "creation" of "learning" of "social interaction" or otherwise. I play for fun. Were i to write, to draw, to paint, to play music, i would create something lasting. By playing runescape i create nothing. "only the memory remains". Daydreaming is creation, and sure as hell serves a purpose. Just because the gain isn't concrete does not mean it is not there - planets keep from being thrown off into space by invisible powers. I believe daydreaming exercises the mind, to make it either more apt to react to creation, or to create itself. If we spent more time letting children daydream as opposed to placing them into already planned-out activities, we'd have much more talented kids who know what it is to be creative. Take it from someone who didn't accept his creativity as anything more than 'fun' for years. It's just as good as a good physique or a solid bank account, the ability to daydream and have a healthy, strong mind. take it from someone who had their creativity organized, in the form of music, creative writing under the wing of schooling. That is the way to further creative talent: external stimulation by professionals. I didn't think playing the cello was anything but "fun" for years, as i was growing up, but now i find myself in a position where i compose, create and make money off it. If i were daydreaming instead of having fun practicing, where would i be now? yes, daydreaming could work, for a few individuals, but it's not the way for children to let their creativity flourish. you have no idea how satisfying it is to perform your own compositions for a large audience, your improvisations with a fellow pianist or band. creativity can, and is taught. pedagogy works. this kind of constructive realization from a young age, through the feeling of mastering a setting (such as an exhibition or performance) you also gain self-confindence, and spread happiness to parents, grandparents and other loved-ones who see real results of your creativity. daydreaming creates only the ephemeral, unless you externalize its musings, which would be creative writing, not they daydreaming directly. yes, playing runescape is more creative than passively watching tv, yes reading a book probably stimulates the imagination more than runescape. But real results come from activities in real life, not in a virtual world. you are prioritizing the unreal, virtual over the real when you play the game. It does boil down to that inconvenient truth. Einstein did not daydream, he reasoned logically on such a high level that only a handful of individuals could even understand his special theory of relativity when he proposed it. Just because a guy is a genius, not needing to write things down, does not mean his mind is daydreaming. Newton did not daydream, he used his eyes, then his mind to logically explain the phenomenon. Da Vinci did not daydream when painting, he saw and depicted. Shakespeare did not daydream, he read and was inspired. Marie and Pierre Curie did no daydream, they experimented and interperated. Watson and Crick did not daydream, they modeled and x-ray cromatographed. Mozart did not daydream when composing: he entertained, creating pop music. Bach did not daydream, he praised God the best way he could. experiencing the real world leads to creation; runescape is for fun
  17. well, i wanted to check out the w1 f2p rares market, but i can't seem to find it. where is it located, or is this simply a figment of my imagination? It's not by the GE ?
  18. the most interesting thing for the near future is what happens to the legitimate goods of non-violent nature, if they break the blockade or not. How will the international community react if the Israelis block concrete and food? what about the 5 other ships? the violence is once thing, what about the peaceful demonstrators? I'm pretty sure high profile internationals would not partake in the transportation of materials, if they knew something was amiss.
  19. I would hope so! If you can't figure it after 400 updates, then I would believe that it's just a totally random time-stamp down to the second, once a day, everyday between 9PM-6PM Central Time. I've read that it does NOT update in between those hours... but that still leaves 21 hours for a completely random time. You can use statistics to try to predict if an update will be early or late, but they're almost kind of useless if it a random time-stamp in the 9PM-6PM central Time every day. Well I've only got maybe 10 updates or so tracked right now, and it's totally random. Though... if the 9PM-6PM Central Time is true, you can at least say "the GE cannot update for another X hours". But after that it would be a 21 hour window if completely random. :( today, they had the "no update will happen for the next 16 hours". this is apparently 100% accurate unless a jagex employee manually overrides. there is a method to predict it with relative accuracy it seems, but the next stage apparently involves some uncertainty, and the "likelyhood" of an update. May be a heavily weighted probability curve for instance, who knows?` looking forward to seeing what type of formula you get though, if you're willing to release it :D

  21. other items with street, crowns, bobs or a mask might be options to consider.
  22. the simplification of pixel as holding no value, reduces the argument in a form that renders it of little use: pixels are time. time is definitely involved in the real world, runescape is definitely part of your real world. You spend your time playing runescape where you do not perform other activities. Why do you choose to play runescape? because it's more enjoyable than your real life at certain times. That's a brutal truth to accept, not a relative truth you can simply deny. Accepting that virtual reality fulfills your need for entertainment in your spare time better than reality, that is the basic reason for why you play runescape, not the profundity of creation. Creation is the manifestation in which you subvert your attention to virtual reality; the means to an end. (you could say the same for reading a book, or watching tv) The original poster is right in saying that we can all create our own personal reasons for playing runescape. However, it all boils down "rejecting reality and substituting your own" in the words of a certain mythbuster.
  23. I don't see how this article could have prevented anything? It's been known for ages that rares are susceptible to manipulation. Thing is, when something is manipulated, it's hard to predict what's going to happen, unless you are on of the manipulators. That's the whole point of manipulation, lieing/making secret agreements/... in order to have information others don't and use this to your advantage. If manipulation became totally predictable, it wouldn't work anymore. a lot of people read the tip.it times. a lot of people have rares, from way back, but little understanding of the rares market (being in a clan shows you that). a lot of people don't realize the difference between a dip and a dump, these are the ones panicking. With an article published at an earlier stage, more people would have held on to their santas at the last dip. manipulating is VERY predictable. go to w2 after a ge update before selling your goods. look at the people buying items that are "crashing". if they're buying in bulk, it's manipulation. If noone's in w2, then check the forums. you're likely to find the same people selling in w2 selling on the forums; buying in w2 buying on the forums. you can then see if they've been selling just recently by checking their post history
  24. every source has an angle. every source has an origin, however, disregarding a source based on it's affiliation (catholic or otherwise) not on the actual content and quality of research is something completely different. of course the catholic sites are the ones who want people to know that their priests aren't terrible in comparison with the rest of society, just as university websites don't post statistics on the rate of sexual misconduct by professors, or government offices don't post statistics in public schooling.
  25. with 65 def and 85 att, i'd do slayer for a while till you find the creatures you enjoy killing the most. then stick with those if you get bored of those creatures, then go slayering again, till you find something new you like, or get back into the creatures you were killing, becuase you still enjoy them the most. :)
