  1. Gio, you're looking at the SMP (and SSP) section, I think :P I'm looking at the section under that, it only has 3 things I have to download, although the title for that section says SSP only. FFF, this guy's topic is a mess. Even I'm confused. Hang on, I'll reread everything. ... Okay, I think I'm understanding his sections. The top one Gio was reading is version 9, which has SSP and SMP functionality. The section I was reading was for version 7, and only has SSP functionality. Now that I know this, I'll just list off what I'm doing as I go. - Downloaded modelrendererturbo, AudioMod, ModLoaderMP, and planes1.4_01.
  2. Just at a glance, the Planes mod looked obscenely complicated to install and use, hence why I avoided it at first >.> I'll dl it and see if I can get it running, though. Are you sure you dl'ed the correct files? I noticed they have the SMP files listed first, and SSP files listed second (the reverse of what I'd normally expect). I'm assuming you're on 1.4_01 as well. There appears to be a troubleshooting batch file up near the top that might help you find the problem as well. Regardless, I'll start the download to install these now. Maybe I'll run into the same error as you.
  3. From my experience, they aren't extremely common. I know at least you can't detect any other towns around while you're inside of one currently, and the detect function (v) goes for 900 meters, I think. With my already generated world, I had to wander for 2 days or so to find the one I'm at now, getting myself horribly lost in the process seeing as I had to cross a huge desert as well >.> when I was testing what mod was conflicting with it though, a newly generated world spawned me within sight of a new town, although I didn't detect any more nearby as before. They can only generate on relatively flat areas, so they're impossible to find in mountainous terrain, though. They don't seem to need extremely large areas, though. All their buildings are relatively small, apart from the town hall, and the terrain in between the buildings doesn't matter to them - the newly generated world and town had a big hole right in between the buildings, they just seemed to walk around it. That being said, they're quite capable of flattening out areas for their buildings, and I wouldn't be surprised if they can somewhat do this with generating new towns as well - I noticed one of the houses was sitting on a cliff that seemed a little too far out and a little too perfectly shaped to me. Anyway, I'm rambling again. They aren't too common, and they can't generate on already explored terrain in a current save, you'll have to explore new areas for them to generate. There can be multiple towns, though. I just haven't seen more than one. My current town's population is 10, which is odd seeing as the last time I looked it was at 12. I need to watch the wolves more closely, I know someone's gone missing. There's a new fountain in the middle of town, plus a new farm (maybe two, I can't remember off hand), and a new building I wasn't sure what it was until I looked in the txt files for the mod. Apparently it's a guard tower. I'm hoping some of their buildings gets converted into stone soon, though. It's kinda sucky having wood and dirt buildings everywhere, lol.
  4. Yeah, the 1.5 update looks amazing. I may have snow enabled for snowy biomes (supposedly, I have yet to see it) with the nature mod I have installed, but I'd prefer to have the official thing :P Just a quick update on my current game... I started a small lakeside house built into the side of a cliff, so my front door comes out onto a dock that wraps around a bit of the side of the cliff, as well as having a boathouse (which doesn't work too well at keeping animals out and keeping my boats safe, as I soon discovered). I had just built my bedroom, farm and storeroom, as well as dug down to bedrock and was in the process of digging out my main mining room when I discovered this mod: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1032&t=247048&sid=e316b6b9d2e520d46c3ca7880c9ee09b Basically, it adds growing, randomly generated villages to world gen. With newly generated worlds, you'll likely have one within distance to be detected with 'v' which shows any villages within a certain distance of you. They start off with six villagers, a couple houses, and a town hall. From there, they'll grow, but they'll only really start to expand when you trade building materials (wood, stone, glass) with them. It really is incredible to me, seeing something like this. In the time it took me to sell them some wood, run back to my old home to get as much of my stuff as possible, and come back (marking my way so I didn't get lost this time), they already had a windmill and bakery built. They're still in their wood and dirt houses with no glass in their windows, though. I'm really quite interested in seeing how they expand from here. I dunno, I've always wanted to... I'm unsure, lead a small village like this as it grows and expands? I've been looking for a mod like this for a very long time. It already ranks up there with ControllerBloc and the grappling hook for me. Excuse my wall of text there. I'll post a screenie of the village as is within a few minutes, if I can get them hosted. I have several other mods installed as well, although most of it is standard fare for me, the weapons mod is a new addition - adds battle axes, warhammers, spears, javelins, crossbow and a musket (still haven't decided if I want to use the musket, though - never liked the idea of guns in Minecraft, but seeing as this is as archaic as gun mods get, I might keep it). The spear is a far more enjoyable weapon for me, since I can throw it as well as attack, although warhammer's increased knockback distance makes punting cows off of cliffs far more amusing. Ahem. I'll stop typing now. Pics of the town to be arriving shortly, hopefully. EDIT: The pictures! Also, I'm using a Zelda texture pack, which I quite like myself, apart from the lava to some degree. [spoiler=Pictures] That's a shot of inside of the house I'm in now. Note, it's not built by me, rather it's an insta-house mod I downloaded. It functions kinda like a tent, the actual object is the weird colored floor in the center of the floor. Good for long trips before I can get myself established, which I'll do soon. A view of the town. You can see a farmer and his fields on the left, as well as a random wolf in behind him if you look closely. I should probably keep an eye on the wolves, I'm unsure of how they'll react to the human mobs, and I know the humans won't fight back on peaceful mode. A picture of some of the villagers clearing an area out for a building (you can see a sign nearby, that seems to symbolize the new building site. This is also why my house is so far way from town (and up on a hill), they seem quite capable of flattening out an area, I'd rather now have them flatten my own house :P honestly, I have no idea what they're building here - I've noticed that there's a good deal of french in this mod, in some of the terms and names. I can sorta understand it, being Canadian, but not all the way. Thankfully it's only names and these building site signs that seem to be in french, everything else is in english. This is the windmill that was built in my absence. I was extremely surprised to see this being here when I came back, plus the building site above, as well as the population being doubled (now 12, and I see kids running around). Overall I'm extremely surprised at how the town is progressing. I know not everyone here uses mods, but I felt like this one was a real gem. I meant what I said about waiting for one like it for a long time. I do get some occasional crashes and lagspikes (both of which were explained as pathfinding issues in the topic somewhere, I believe), but they're so infrequent that they don't bother me. Plus, they really only happen when I'm moving around and going into new areas quickly, which I only do in spurts anyway :P EDIT: Turns out the nature mod and Millenaire aren't as compatible as I first thought. The 'infrequent' crashes only got worse the longer I stayed near the village. I was quite annoyed at it continuously happening, so I experimented with what might be causing it - finding out that only having Millenaire on it's own causes no crashes, but the moment the nature mod is installed, it goes boom. So, in the process of reinstalling all the mods sans the nature one now. I'm hoping my original world is salvageable, but if it isn't, I don't mind horribly. Since nature mod only really affected how trees and other plants worked (plus snow), I doubt it'll cause a huge amount of fuss. Hopefully.

I guess glitching in that case is equivalent to 'emergent gameplay' or whatever it's called, lol. In addition to glitching, what are your guys' thoughts on using walkthroughs, guides, etc? Is this considered cheating? For me, it really depends on the situation. With games with a storyline to it (Rune Factory, etc), I refuse to read a walkthrough (although I usually end up getting spoilered by idiots on other forums anyway when I need to find an answer for a question). I may in that case use a weapons guide or something similar to have a list of materials I need to gather to make it. For something like... Super Mario Galaxy (2), I might read a guide if I get stuck somewhere, but generally I rely on my own ingenuity to get through (ie, die until I don't die anymore). For finding all the stars, or secrets, etc... I'll do my best to find everything myself, and then I'll read a guide to get the last couple. Basically, it boils down to this: I'll use lists of things to get through, but I generally avoid any and all full walkthroughs until I beat the entire game myself, unless I get into a situation that I just can't work my way out of. I always make an attempt to solve my problem myself, then I'll rely on a guide. RS is a different story sometimes. For quests, sometimes I use guides, sometimes I don't. I used to always use them, but quests are far more fun if you don't use them, in my opinion. Doing the last two Elemental Workshop quests with no guide (but some encouragement and aid from a few cc goers and a friend) was difficult, but enjoyable.
  6. Was actually going to go post this question in TheAncient's topic in gen disc, but seeing as one of the admins deleted it (), I guess I'll ask here. DGS still has it's own site, right? Because I may not come in much (read: at all, lol - but I will soon, probably, seeing as I'm closing in on my rapier and getting sick of solo), but I do read this topic here pretty much every day, plus I'd hate to see this clan go under because of this... whatever this argument is between TIF staff and you guys (if it's just a couple people, then I apologise). Basically, I hate to see you guys go, but if you have to, I would more than likely migrate over to your guys' site as well. A similar situation happened with a different forum, and a whole slew of modders for that game migrated onto their own site. I missed most of it, but it seems to have caused a lot of chaos. I hope everything turns out alright :P
  7. To start with, why the hell should I waste my time talking to the morons and idiots following me while I'm training? To satisfy their witch-hunting 'curiosity' as to whether or not I'm botting? I think not, I have better things to do than to bother with morons, thank you. Oh, and if anyone actually reported me for not bothering to talk, then they'd end up getting an earful from me, probably with lots of profanities. Yes I am a cranky bastard sometimes. Deal with it, I say :P That being said, I do usually talk whenever I can. If I happen to be fm'ing or something and I really can't skill and talk, then I won't bother responding. If I'm doing something that I have even a tiny amount of time to respond, I will - but usually only when someone asks a question, or is talking directly to me. I generally don't end up starting conversations, due to the above morons that seem to fill every world nowadays. Above meaning earlier in my post, and not earlier on this page, btw :P

Depends on the circumstance for me. If I'm playing The Sims 2 (or 3) legitly, then I don't cheat, unless I encounter a glitch or something which I'll attempt to fix myself. If I'm just trying to build something, then I'll cheat to get the money and do whatever. The Sims is easy enough that you don't need to cheat, anyway. With Minecraft, same deal. If I play legit, no cheating. If I'm building, I'll use INVedit to give myself the materials. Multiplayer games, I won't cheat. Simple enough :P
  9. Very nice, Hugger :) the sole thing I would say to add is a roof of some sort, that would make it a bit more realistic looking I think. I'd also note that spiders would be able to climb over your fence (and house) quite easily, but seeing as I don't see a sword in your hotbar, I'm guessing you're on peaceful >.> or just don't have a sword on you atm, I suppose. Second reasoning for a roof, spiders will slide up, thump into the underside of the overhanging roof, and fall :P Oh, and I'd like to see what the interior looks like as well, if you'd post some more screenies. Only thing I can barely make out inside is a furnace, lol. And a double chest. ... Gah, now I wanna play lol. Guess I'll hop on Diamond Seekers for a bit. Or maybe just single player... hm.
  10. Just at a glance, considering the Uber cape is supposed to be the big cape that shows you've done everything, I would assume this would include everything - including Shattered Hearts and Champion's Challenge. That being said, though, we don't want the Uber cape to be so completely out of reach for a vast majority of players, do we? Or would it instead just give us a new large goal to aim towards? Personally, I like the idea of including the two minigames/d&ds to the Uber cape criteria. Not sure how many other people will, though. I can see a lot of complaining about it being 'out of reach' for most people, but then again, it's the Uber cape. Wouldn't really be Uber if it weren't extremely difficult to get, would it? :P
  11. My view is if money is taken into account for ease, xp/hr should be as well. What does fishing max at for xp/hr? I doubt it goes over 100k xp/hr. Looking at wiki's page for xp rates (and noting it doesn't seem to have an xp rate for fly fishing, which is rather stupid), I see that barbarian heavy rod fishing using the alching method to empty your invy gives about 65k xp/hr (75-80k/hr if you use urns as well). Cooking lobsters gives about 150k xp/hr. It does cost more, but you get 99 cooking far faster than 99 fishing, and with that extra time you can earn back the cash used getting the 99 to begin with. That being said, fishing is one of the easiest 99s to get. It really does depend on your perspective. I personally am just too lazy to bother with it yet, lol. In addition to normal fishing methods, one that I just remembered (for 80+ fishing, I would assume) would be C2 fishing in dungeoneering - it supposedly gives a fairly large amount of xp/hr, enough to counter the fact you're taking longer on the floors you'd normally C1 to get through. I can't confirm how much xp, though. Still, it's something I may end up doing, since I enjoy dg...
  12. I wasn't implying that, yeah. If someone posts a derogatory comment towards someone, they should be warned/banned, regardless of how they tend to post. Still, some of us just post in a blunt manner because that's how they talk normally. If they're contributing, good. If they're being trolls, then have fun with the warning/bans. I have no problems with trying to not be blunt with my posts, since I automatically attempt to do the opposite and... sugar coat it, I guess? To avoid conflict as much as possible. I'd be a pretty crappy debater because of it, though :P That doesn't include times when I'm already annoyed at something, however. Then my politeness tends to go out the window >.> That being said, I doubt too many people would want to change their posting styles to post on here, apart from not posting flaming/trolling comments anyway. If I posted with a blunt manner normally, but I contribute to topics with said style, I doubt I'd change either.
  13. Yeah, I admit, it's entirely possible I missed the posts that got him banned (last I'll post on it, I swear). I think part of the flaming problem comes from this sort of situation: Person posts topic. People reply saying topic is stupid/answer is obvious/etc. Person get's into a hissy fit and flames people for not agreeing/making them feel stupid. People flame back. Etc, etc. Regardless, Tripsis summed up what I was trying to say better than I did. Attack the idea, not the person. We can still have a fairly volatile/heated debate without name calling and such, I would imagine. EDIT: In response to muggi's post, I imagine for some of these people it's less of a posting style and more of a personality thing - they're not forcefully posting in this style, it's just the way they talk/post. I always try to act nice and lenient (in the cases when I was a mod in Shyla's cc), and that shows through in my posting style. I also enjoy writing, hence why my posts are always a mini article in size >.>
  14. Yeah, I figured demonic thrones were at least up in the upper 90s, if not 99, so I figured it'd be a 200m xp method than anything, lol :P Examining the reorganized list, I'm not surprised (at the fact it's there and the fact I forgot about it) that woodcutting is so common. Although, seeing as I never did ivy (which undoubtedly made 99 wc more... appetizing, I suppose, for people looking for an easy 99), I'm not surprised I missed it in my last post. Not surprised hitpoints is up fairly high, and the three melee skills are in that order, either. I am surprised that fletching isn't closer to the most common, though.
  15. I just woke up, so forgive me for anything that isn't all the way thought out. First off, Blade's been banned? Wow, I didn't expect that to have happened :/ (I kinda sorta knew him from when he used to be in Shyla's cc ages ago) I probably came across as bit of an ass with my last post, and I apologize for that. I was a bit irritated at the time, having just read some of the topics with a large amount of pointless trolling and flaming going on in it. Having read Dying's post, I realize I completely forgot that entire point - how many good discussions and debates come from heated arguments and such. I did feel that there should be an exception to the 'if you have nothing good to say, don't say it at all', but I completely forgot to say anything about it. Kinda typical of me, but whatever >.< Modifying what I originally said, I believe that, while looking at a lot of the 'blunt' posts, and some of the heated arguments can bother some people, it really comes down to whether or not the blunt comment was meant as a flat out troll/flame, or it's just that person's writing style. I know my own style is the exact opposite, I try to... I'm not sure, be the nice guy I suppose? Hell, I don't know. What I'm trying to say is that I agree with Dying's post. We get a lot of good discussions going from heated arguments. But, we get a lot of trolling and flaming as well. What the staff should do is observe the reported person's writing style, and make a decision on whether they're purposely trying to flame, or just approaching the discussion with a more blunt mindset. The staff should try to make the effort to not ban the people who are just blunt, but ban the people that exist to cause irritation via trolling. I can think of people that fit into both categories, but no naming names, I suppose. Although personally, I would've thought Blade would be in the 'blunt mindset' group rather than the 'troll/flamer' group, but that's also just my opinion. Also not really the place for it, but it was mentioned so I'll respond to it :P Anyway. Excuse the wall of text (again), and apologies for any half thought out sentences or whatever. I just woke up. Hope I got my own point across, though.
  16. Calling people trolls or not, there is a lot of nit picking going on, from my perspective. I saw a lot of the same thing when I was a mod in Shyla's cc :P My view is pretty simple: if you already are careful with what you say and try not to insult/incite flame wars/whatever, you have nothing to worry about. I can understand people's automatic responses to be 'blunt' occasionally, sure. But I've been seeing a lot of that recently, and quite frankly it's getting annoying. Personally, I think if you can't say something without at least trying to have some semblance of politeness, don't say anything at all and save everyone the trouble of mistaking your 'bluntness' as trolling. My apologies if that comes off as trolling in itself, but I can't think of a way to soften it anymore, lol :P
  17. Mod support would be nice, yeah. Mod support and being able to use said mods on SMP, even better. I miss my freaking grappling hook on Diamond Seekers ._. Speaking of, I think I'll hop on for a few minutes, if anyone's on now. Oh, and my old list of single player mods was probably several dozen mods long. Just saying >.>
  18. Fletching and Cooking were my first two 99s (in that order :P), but I'll admit they're by far the easiest 99s - Cooking was easier, since it required less clicks per hour to do each invy (I strung yew longs to 99 Fletching). Melees are pretty easy, but they do require more supplies, depending on how you go about doing it - just grinding AZs or LRC would only require small amounts of supplies (LRC moreso, since I'd be using piety/turmoil on those constantly and no altar nearby). Melee training via Slayer would require more of everything - pots, food, summon pouches, but still would be fairly easy. Just time consuming. Just looking at the time used, Crafting and Smithing are both really easy 99s, but since Smithing is considerably more expensive, that puts it more out of reach. Firemaking is fast xp, but I personally find it boring as hell, so I mark it higher in difficulty because of that >.> So, easiest 99s, in terms of availability and cost... I'd say Cooking (since we can click a couple times to cook 28 fish, sit back and do whatever for a minute or two, and repeat), then Fletching (depending on method used, could be just as click non-intensive as Cooking via fletching unstrung bows, or a tiny bit more clicking with stringing bows), then... not sure. Maybe Dungeoneering, since the xp/hr rate for that gets extremely high up closer to 99 (and higher), and it requires nothing in supplies. Disregarding availability and costs and going for sheer xp... maybe Cooking, depending on how the xp/hr rate is using brawlers with anything (wines, I heard?) is. If not that, then Smithing afterward (seeing as straight up addy plates with no bonus xp givers is 256k xp/hr or so). Prayer with frost dragon bones would also be quick, although I personally haven't used them before :P Construction I also have zero clue about for xp, but I'd assume it could be extremely fast with those demonic thrones, like an above poster said. Hm... just basing ease off of the enjoyability of a skill, Dungeoneering could be the absolute easiest, or the absolute hardest, depending on who you ask :P But yeah, I don't like going absolute mainstream with my training methods either anymore, hence why I've been trying to diy supplies, not grind melees at azs/lrc, solo dg, etc (yes, I enjoy soloing dg).
  19. I would assume in the case of dc'ing or lagging out, items kept on death would be based on the old system - highest value according to high alch apparently not, now that I reread and see that items will now be kept on ge value, not high alch value. That alone is interesting (and I completely missed it the first two times I read it somehow >.>)... The Lunar Farm thing and the Easter event look interesting as well, I would probably do evil trees more (at least for a month after the event, after noticing yet another thing I missed -.-). The new Lunar spells should be interesting as well, the Remote Farming may end up being useful, depending on it's cost and how fast you can cast it and cure your crops. Not to mention the rc pouch repair one... interesting. It also reinforces the pouches, I wonder if that's just flavor text, or if it actually makes the pouches last longer before decaying...? Oh, and if Venge Group is enabled in DG, I'd enjoy that - if I ever get a chance, I do try to cast venge on my team mates, but it's kinda... slow, only having the one cast every 30 seconds. Overall a good month.
  20. I kinda uh... got sucked back into playing Monster Hunter Tri and Dwarf Fortress while my internet was out, hence me not being on either - although I did sneak on once while no one else was on to fill a few furnaces with the 3 stacks of iron I had in my invy, rofl. For anyone working with Low, Over and myself (and everyone else), they should be in the furnaces in the main lobby if you need it. And yes, I'm the one that keeps stocking each furnace with exactly 8 coal and storing the excess in the chests. >_>
  21. Maybe it's because I'm paranoid, but I have trouble accepting that none of the TIF staff came up with something for April Fools this year... they're planning something, methinks >_> More on topic, I have zero clue what to expect out of Jagex for an April Fools event, if we get one. Sailing or something to do with Dungeoneering are my two obvious choices :P And Spoof, that post was epic, btw. I laughed pretty hard when I read it >.>
  22. I've gotten several emails in my personal inbox (never really checked to see if they were legit or not, but they were just notifications about updates coming up soon anyway), but never any in my RS inbox. I (obviously) don't fall into any of the special circumstance categories, except maybe for being around for a while (01/02, but on a different account so it probably doesn't count anyway). That being said, if I had this email sent to me, I probably wouldn't go anyway, lol. I only do minigames and such with friends or with people from Shyla's cc if I'm on (which recently, I haven't been due to a recent readdiction to other games). Still, it's rather... odd. I would've expected the in game inbox to be reserved for something more important than an invitation for an event, heh.
  23. Due to my modem deciding to explode on Friday, I haven't been online since then. Wonder how the server's been since I've been gone... Being without internet sucks -.-
  24. If mining isn't your thing you could probably create a cobblestone generator using water and lava, but that takes more effort, plus I honestly have no idea how you'd arrange the water and lava source blocks so your mined cobblestone doesn't get incinerated. Personally, I'd just dig down to bedrock, and dig out a big room - like 20x20 and 3 blocks high or something. Keep stripping out the area, you'll get your cobble and more materials to replenish your tools eventually. As for Creative mode, I have no clue - there's no option for it in the downloaded version, so I assume it's only available on the website somewhere. I've never played it, though.
  25. Started a branch mine, found a diamond vein, but I got bored and decided to wander away from Whitevale for a cave system. Let's just say, I found what I was looking for >_> Still not done, but I'm heading back to Whitevale to deposit my loots so far at my place and tele back. Found a dungeon, tons of redstone dust, some lapis lazuli, coal, another diamond vein... there's still a bunch of veins I haven't mined yet, and I located a dungeon, which I promptly looted, although I'm gonna have to mine out the mossy cobble as well as soon as I get back. Loot included a saddle, enough gunpowder for precisely one block of tnt, a loaf of bread, enough wheat for two more loaves, and some iron ingots. I'm quite happy with the spoils :P Just waiting for Greg to back up the map so I can continue now, hence why I'm typing this now, lol. Interested in this 'bank' he mentioned before I logged off, though...
