Ohhh yes. brought 2 before update @ 8m ea. People are buying for 25m apparently in W2. if only I brought more, I could have for once made major profit I was browsing the SM forums before update and bought some because they were being merched, I wonder if it was a coincidence or that robins were leaked  -
Vanity Items - RS Prepaid cards and Ornate Katana
Jaded replied to Articultural's topic in General Discussion
Yep, just like those vanity pets you get in Blizzcon lootbags/WOW cards. I made a pretty penny selling and flipping them on ebay :) Even though it's just for looks, people will pay crazy amounts for virtual items if they're enticing enough. *cough* phat black market *cough*. -
Back in RSC there used to be this awesome program that would do everything, I think it was mentioned previously in this thread. It wasn't just a bot (though you could set macros), it improved gameplay with features like waypoint setting. Well Jagex eventually caught on and stat wiped a bunch of accounts and listed it on their front page. I had 2 accounts - one was wiped to the ground but my main wasn't touched. The thing is it wasn't a secret, players treated this program like Swiftkit and even talked about it in game...it really made the game a better experience (this was before make-X). Shortly after Jagex started doing make-X. I haven't cheated since then. So I agree as long as they make it less of a grind regular players will be less inclined to cheat. The companies are easy to spot though, the varrock ess mine spots for example xD

Heh, merchanting is a viable way of making money, especially in the age of free trade where people don't have to pay the price if they have patience. But I'm a dirty mercher so I guess I am biased. Oh and the whole world does merchanting, it's called markup. You think Walmart actually pays $20 for that plastic shelf, or do they pay $3/unit to that factory in China, who actually uses 50 cents worth of plastic injected into a mould? Or you think it costs $25k for Louis Vuitton to make a handbag that has maybe $20 worth of materials? As I said, it's a legitimate way to make money in the real and virtual world.

If they wanted to stop the flower game scam they could make the flowers spawn in your inventory instead of on the ground. Simple fix. Although I've always said they needed gambling in RS, but through a vendor instead of through trust games. It would take so much money out of the economy. Standing at the GE you see just how stupid people are, lining up to give money to a scammer even though there's people crying about being scammed right next to them. On one hand they need to be protected from themselves, on the other "a fool and his money are soon parted." Better kids learn this on RS than with real money.

Love the idea of extremes being allowed in high risk worlds only, solves both sides of it. Can anyone tell me if ext/ovl are still allowed at corp? I know we get a new teleport but since it's technically still in wildy will it say "You can't teleport there with volatile potions in your inventory" or something like that?

Wilderness and Free Trade will return - 17 January 2011
Jaded replied to Noobzy's topic in General Discussion
Erm...what's the point in pvp if not to have fun and kill your opponent before they kill you? Certainly not for the stimulating conversation... I admit I have been spoiled by MMOs and games with good pvp, I bought into Jagex's hype of them bringing back this great pvp experience. I should've known they were just trying to push a fugly new line of t-shirts  -

Because they're all gung [garden tool] on making wildy so bad a$$, and yet they're still catering to the whiners and crybabies who are too poor to level herblore. They overturned their original decision BEFORE the announcement to bring back free trade/wild was announced, so it makes sense that they would re-evaluate the idea. Do you know what critical thinking means, LOL? TBH I've never played a MMO that is so limited (eg. all capped stats and can't use skills that you've earned in PVP). -

Penguin hunters should carry something poison on them, that should dissuade pkers. Can you imagine if they tried to attack one hunter, then everyone took turns DDSing and poison darting them. That would probably put a stop to griefing. -

Umm oookay....gf to the people who trained herblore, AGAIN. If it's supposed to be so dangerous then why neuter pkers? Why not encourage people to train for the advantage they want. /99 herb rage Are you effing kidding me? The whole point of bringing back old wildy was to get rid of this failed mechanic of inflation...why bother keeping it if they are restoring the thing it was supposed to simulate?! :wall: -
How do players know how much an item is worth?
Jaded replied to Chrystophilax's topic in General Discussion
Easiest way for me was to go to w2 and listen for a few minutes. Go stand in the rares section if you were trying to sell rares and see what most people were selling for. I still use this to gauge when to sell stuff when flipping. Like yesterday i saw so many people dumping bandos chestplate, i dumped mine and didn't lose 700k per :ohnoes: But be aware that certain merch clans are going to try and create panic when free trade comes: advertise a low sell price to make it seem like it's crashing, scoop up an item for cheap and resell for higher when panic passes. Yeah they're not even keeping the illusion of not price manipulating anymore. -
Work is kicking my butt... I'd rather make millions (well, thousands <_< ) in real life than in the game. The only thing I do now is trade on GE and the new update will kill that :( Plus Cataclysm came out...I've managed to avoid it so far but all my design friends are playing.

Heh this again. Nothing is stopping pkers from training herblore and taking advantage of it. In the spirit of the game (making the wild as dangerous it can be), Jagex better not be p**** whipped by all the whiners like last time. That wasn't my point, but ok. Oh I gotcha, wasn't calling you a whiner, just commenting on how Jagex wants the new wildy to be so hardcore, it would be hypocritical to say "oh but these pots are just too hardcore."
-
SAFER NOOB! I can't wait till pkers come back thinking it's still 2007. So glad I bothered to train mage (aka BARRAGE NOOB!) Heh this again. Nothing is stopping pkers from training herblore and taking advantage of it. In the spirit of the game (making the wild as dangerous it can be), Jagex better not be p**** whipped by all the whiners like last time.

It's a pity that he'll dodge the questions people really want answers to, like: "WTF was going on in your head to give the okay for such a poorly implemented, ballot stuffing poll? Who did you put in charge of that thing, a Sequoia voting maching?!?!" Could you also ask him about updating the max currency thing? It's kind of redundant to have free trade but have no way of buying a blue p hat with straight out GP. I mentioned this in another thread but no other pay-to-play MMO gives you a cap on how much you can make. I think people have suggested some kind of different coinage system (platinum/gold/silver/etc) to get around the coding problem. -
Why does it suck? It's like you need a degree in mathematics to trade phats at the moment. I just wanna be able to sell my stuff--no junk, no having to figure out what is rising or crashing at any given time, no anticipating which merch clan will dump and thereby crash any junk you buy/sell. By the same token I want to buy my blue without hassle so please Jagex upgrade your max currency system. That is my biggest peeve about the game...I can't think of any other MMO that caps your money (except free LOTRO...but that's because they want you to buy membership).

Yep. It's not really a poll, just a "Honk if you love cookies!" Also thanks Methud and others for posting the transcript. -

Wow, I can't believe Jagex hates merch clans more than RW traders. They want to eliminate price manipulation but just like with tricking they are short-sighted. i made my 2b through the GE with minimal effort flipping...this is going to be the next evolution of merching. What happens when merch clans or solo merchers buyout all the PK/boss killing supplies and ingredients. I wonder if players will be as happy that they removed trade limits  Can't wait. -
Oh yes they do. If they don't they're lying. Everyone is judgmental, no matter how much they say they're not. Now, being judgmental and taking a chance versus being judgmental and shunning the fellow is two different things. But what you wear, what you do--everything leaves impressions. I disagree. I would have the same social life with friends that know I game as with those that don't. Hell, I'll often introduce myself as a self proclaimed nerd to the opposite sex if I'm out. People aren't as judgemental as you think. And those that are aren't worth talking too anyway. I could have just as good night, meet as many new people wearing one of those T shirts as I could wearing a t shirt with the same general picture but not Runescape oriented. If you like a T shirt, wear it. It's funny you mention this. I had coffee with a cute guy this week because we started talking about the Horde shirt I was wearing. And I'm sure people are judgemental, if I was an overweight chick stretching out the shirt maybe he wouldn't have bothered. But I find it to be a nice conversation starter, like when guys see a girl gamer you already have so much to talk about :-D You have no idea how many people yell out "For the Horde/Alliance!" when I wear the shirt lol. But RS still has a shameful stigma attached to it, if they designed nicer shirts I might actually buy one :(
-
OMG how much money do they make from the game that they can't afford to hire a good graphic designer to design some shirts? They all look so amateurish, I have designed better stuff for class projects and my friends' bands! The only halfway decent one is the primal warriors one (looks like it was ripped off from a Jinx design) but the contrast sucks on it! By the way before anyone says "if you can do it better blah blah blah..." I wore a shirt of my own design to Blizzcon and got a lot of great comments on it. Where do I apply?

Yup, to me partyhats is what makes the skillcape worth getting. More people will get "your" skillcape as the game goes on, partyhats set your outfit apart. I know everyone has an attack cape, I want one to match my red (and eventually slayer, but that's more of a really long term goal lol). To be seen as a hoarder because you never intend to sell is a little sad. Making geepees and buying skillcapes is easy now, a diamond phat is forever.

I used to play WOW but that was too time consuming. RS is very AFKable...you can watch tv, check facebook, chat online or do homework while playing RS in a side window. That's the only time I play RS now. Not enough time in the day to work, hang out with friends and game so I have to multitask when playing xD
-
Quick question: if stuff like long bones and circus are multiplied, is the Wild Jade Vine (2500 slayer exp) and Tears of Guthix multiplied? Thanks. Edit: My vine was diseased and died, cab't test it out :(

Wow, underwhelming much? This was the perfect oppertunity for them to showcase their new graphics engine...glows, fire, smoke trails on armour (a la the new c wars shield). The in game shot looks worse than the new clothing update we just got. Is it too much to expect that RS actually keep up with the rest of the gaming community and have cool, unique looking armour?
