[TF2] It's MANN Vs. Machine!
Quick, someone make a server in which you can pay to be overpowered! We'll use the money from that server to sustain it, and then win through godmode!

[TF2] It's MANN Vs. Machine!
The $400 server cost is something I didn't know about.... Even assuming everyone on a team of 9 pitched in that's ~$45 each. Assuming 9 backups pitch in evenly then it's ~$22.50 each, but it's doubtful enough to get 9 people willing to pay that, much less 18. Also we'd have to agreed on a trusted tip.iter to gather and use the $400. I don't think anyone wants to see their money go to waste. And if we end up doing it I'll volunteer to be a backup. My skill level goes like this: Demo>pyro/engy/spy>sniper>medic/heavy>scout/soldier So I guess I could backup in any of the first 4 semi-reliably.

TiF should take on highlander. Even if we don't win it'd be fun as heck. Those in favor? (And is there any leniency in how matches are scheduled? Or are they just set at random and concrete dates?)

Today...
Yes, I have and was lucky enough that it was successful, however the dentist ran me through in my gums with the drill... he was the worst dentist I ever had though honestly, it didn't hurt at all until he was about done and the anesthetics started to wear off and i could feel the gaping hole in my gums, but I'm not sure if it was the tooth or the damned hole in my gums... OP: done nothing but work today, and now I'm lurking around here I have read that most people find it okay until the anaesthetics wear off. I guess I'm more scared of the pain during the actual procedure. I guess as long as you're anaesthetised properly it should be fine. I hope it will be, anyway :P Anywho, today I went shopping. Was hoping for some good sales but I always end up defaulting back to primark where they don't have sales since the clothes are cheap enough as it is. Got a few nice things from there as well as getting myself gym pants and a gym top so that I've got something proper to wear now. Not sure I'm going to get running shoes yet but I think the £20 in proper workout clothes will be worth it :) I am also a [bleep], by connecting my Facebook account to Steam just for another entry into the Great Gift Pile :P Thing that hurts the most is giving you the anaesthetic, honestly. When the dentist says "you'll feel a small pinch", brace yourself for slightly more than that. It isn't unbearable though, kind of like a bee sting or so. And after that you'll be so numb that they could be shooting you and you wouldn't care. Of course I've only had fillings, but I'm assuming the procedure for anaesthetics is relatively similar.

200M in all Skills
Why is it that whenever I go on to this thread people are raging at someone for playing a game for enjoyment. Even if she is playing it in excess, who cares? She's obviously playing for fun. If I liked drawingdragons all day, and did so for hours every day but never sold any of them or gained any profit whatsoever, would you call me a failure for inefficient. And don't even open the can of worms about it being a waste of time, because all video games are at heart a waste of time, even if you're the best player in them ever. But I'm not going any further there because this is a thread for encouraging 200m all skills, not dissing it. So, on a much less rant-y note: Does Jagex have any new skills in the works? Because it would be hilareous and sad both at once if a new skill* were released right before Suomi got his final 200m. *Released Dunegoneering style, with no high level content at first.

True, and the two classes can overlap a lot. But the way history is taught in my area at least stresses the MEMORIZE THE EXACT DATE THIS HAPPENNED AND THIS TOO AND THIS part far more than the examination and looking for bias parts of history. Which is totally backwards in my opinion. Since knowing the exact date of an occurance makes you look smart and does nothing else. Knowing why it happened and how and how it could again is how you avoid tragedy. I have to disagree with the dates. Knowing the year, you can understand what the event/person's world was like. With that you can understand some parts of the event. But you're still right though, generally understanding the event itself is the most important part. But yeah, history is taught with too much memorization of facts and not enough actual critical thinking. Sorta like my English class, where the teacher did most of the critical thinking... (all in high school, of course) Well, I agree that knowing a general time of occurance is good. After all, thinking that the battle of Themopylae happened at the saem time as the Thirty Years War will lead to issues. But if you know that say, x, y, and z were the main causes of z, but don't know the exact names of the people who did those things, the exact years they happenned in (but do have a general sense of it), how is that significantly inferior to knowing the exact dates/names/ etc? But I think that's pretty much you were saying anyways. And that's true. What is the importance of knowing the name of that one reverend-guy in the Scarlet Letter? Edit: OT: When everyone* on TiF changes their names at once. I start assuming you're all newbs, then see the post count and am all confused. *Actually 2-ish people that I've noticed so far, but the point still stands.

English class is critical thinking class though, especially when you have a good teacher. It comes in three aprts: One, read something and interpret it. In other words, decide what you think it means. For example, things like going west, winter, and white are often analogous to death. How do you tell if they are in the case of a book? See if it makes sense with the overall plot and theme of the book. You're being encouraged to read between the lines rather than just knowing what is told to you directly. Literature serves as an effective method of teaching it. Secondly you're taught to coherently and eprsuasively share your opinions/ beliefs. That's what an essay is, after all. A test of your ability to clearly express what you believe, and give a good argument to back it up. That is, again, a skill that will be handy throughout your life. Finally you're hopefully being taught how to spell, pronunciate, and use grammar correctly so you can get a job one day. (Misspelled words on job applications will kill your chances if they're noticed, as it makes you seem like an idiot.) This is coming from someone who has taken 7 science courses in high school, 2 of which were AP. And honestly I see a lot of overlapping between science and the analysis skills you gain in English. After all, thinking outside of the box and such are how you make discoveries in the first place. And to Newb: It depends on the author, really. I mean, The Hungry Caterpillar had no deeper meanings then what it told you, obviously. But I know that every time I write something, the first thing I think of is what idea I want to express and how I can place it in my writing without directly saying it. Why? Because an idea like "we all will die someday" is obvious and boring to just go out and say, but writing about birds being killed by an eagle, and then a poacher aiming at said eagle actually sounds pretty cool if done right. Authors like Edgar Allan Poe and James Joyce placed huge amounts of symbolism in their works. Those two would often even make characters be analogous to themselves. Also, keep in mind that if a writer spends a large amount of time on a piece, they're probably doing more than just phrasing it. Successfully isnerting symbolism while maintaining a good narrative is far harder than just writing a tale. (And that's why authors that you may not like or think were that engaging are considered geniuses, because of what they put in their works.)

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
Probably everyone, depending on how deeply you dig. I don't think that's true, but I really hope it is. Although, if such a vast majority really does just go along with it, maybe that's even worse... OT: when people dont use capitalization or punctuation it makes posts unbearable to read it gets especially annoying when its really really long or if theyre telling a story on one forum theres even a guy who posts all the time and his posts are routinely several paragraphs long I get the feeling I know what topic you're referring to. Another annoyance to chalk on the list: "Truth is..." status games on Facebook. They either don't tell you a thing or say something nice and avoid any actual honesty. Might as well rename it "Like my status to give me a notification and I'll give you a notification. Equal attention for both of us." I should play it just to see the responses when I actually take it seriously with blunt remarks to prove people are too used to the sugar-coated comments they would get. "Like my status to give me a notification and I'll give you a notification. Equal attention for both of us" is my new Facebook status. Thank you.

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
I don't remember if I expressed this, but I get the strong feeling that being too romantic would come off as somewhat creepy, especially for two, kind of geeky, ninth graders. I don't want to sound like I'm fighting your advice, but I don't want there to be too much pressure on her from the get-go. EDIT: EDIT TWO: Deleted last edit, realized it was untrue. Well, there's a difference between a romantic setting and trying to be romantic. Going out to dinner is a fine first date at any grade level, and if the walk home happens to be romantic in nature that isn't creepy on your part. What would be creepy on your part would be if you tried to make it romantic by telling her you love her or such. Regardless, don't take her to a movie. The point of a first date is to get to know a girl better, and for her to get to know you better and hopefully realize how awesome you are. There's no chance for that at a movie. Also girls at younger ages (aka like ninth graders) tend to like being romantic more as they have less of a hardened worldview. And keep in mind that romantic is just a word for a situation that sends butterflies through your stomach. You want her to get those butterflies around you, because that's the attraction that seals the deal. In short: Stop overthinking it. What's something that you'd have fun doing with her, if there were no restrictions? (Okay, other than that.) Invite her to do that with you, as it'll likely be very fun. If you constantly worry over whether you're being "too romantic" and such you're just stepping on your own toes and seeming less confident. Heck, even if you're full of cheesey one-liners, like I am, throw them out there. A lot of girls tend to find them cute/funny if they're done with humor and confidence.

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
Not a movie. Movies suck for early dates, period. Why? Because as any of the gurus from this topic will tell you, you and your date don't actually get to know each other/ have anything happen during a movie. Go for dinner, just have her over, have a snowball fight, make a snowman, do anything creative and fun. If your date idea is unique then that'll make you more unique in ehr eyes and thus improve your chances. Heck, one of my early dates with my girlfriend was us going to the dollar tree, buying glo-swords, and duking it out in my backyard (in February in mud muck and ice) with them. It was as fun as heck, and we were both freezing afterwards and thus were snuggling once we were back inside. Just don't take her to a movie. That doesn't get you anywhere.
