  1. For the average player, it will speed things up. However, it was previously possible to add feathers to bolts super-ultra-fast using mousekeys, which made for very fast training. That's no longer possible. [hide=Outdated after reading Metagame forum topic] This was the highlight for me. Am I remembering incorrectly, or isn't it the case that crystal bows are actually better/faster DPS than knives/darts while at full and 9/10 states? I could never be bothered to use the old shot counting and bow swapping method before, but if they can be easily recharged now and they're actually better, I'd be happy to use them. Can anyone confirm or refute the DPS ranking of crystal bow vs. knives? [/hide]
  2. In reference to the spot above, there's something worth mentioning. Both in that screenshot and in my early training, the spot can be depicted as follows: OX X X X X With the O being the flower, and the Xs being the traps. However, in screenshots and videos from several top players, I saw a slightly different trap setup: X X O X X X This is likely a very minor difference regardless, but I thought it might be worth mentioning.
  3. Check out this guide. I linked to the last page where some screenshots were recently posted, but the main guide info is of course on page 1. There are only three types of jadinkos that can be caught in the north. Since Amphibious take the same space as, and override, draconic jadinkos, that leaves you catching draconics and commons :).
  4. It's really important to point out that if you're staking at equal stats, staking is always 50/50. Staking using Wicked's method is 50/50. Staking using martingale is 50/50. Staking using any method is 50/50. The difference is in how this gets revealed to you. With "regular" staking, you'll notice that sometimes you're up, and sometimes you're down. You can easily tell that it's all 50/50. With these various special "techniques", what they're actually doing is taking all of your losses and accumulating them into one giant cleaning, so that you don't notice it sneaking up on you until it's too late. The only way you "win" is by stopping after you're up, but this is the same as regular staking, and you can just as easily get cleaned before this even happens.
  5. Especially for the extreme pots, consider what you'll be using and try to make a supply to meet those needs. As I just posted on another thread, I made enough extreme attack/strength/range to give me both 1k 4-dose overloads and 1k 4-dose regular extreme pots (for slayer/etc). For mage/def, I didn't need as many of the regular extremes outside of overloads.
  6. The main principle behind making untradable potions is this: you'll probably need/make them someday, and if you decide that you want them after you already have 99 herblore, then you're "wasting" very expensive experience. So even if you don't find them much use at frosts, you'll want them sooner or later for various reasons. Personally I have a decent amount of spec restores banked, but I don't use them on slayer/etc. If I recall correctly, tests have shown that while extra dragon claw specs can speed up low-level PVM, they only help if you are *very* quick in switching weapons/clicking, and even then it's like a 1-2% DPS increase per hour. IMO you're better off saving them for bosses and/or PvP. If you intend to do a *lot* of frosts, you could always make more super antifire, but 1,000 of those will last for a very long time. Edit: If you really expect to never do much bossing or PvP, I don't think you lose much by doing some regular potions for an extra level or two in the 80s. The really important part IMO is using extreme attack/strength/defence/magic/ranged to level as much as possible. Personally, I made about 2.6k extreme attacks, strengths, and rangeds, and around 1.7k extreme def/mage. This gave me supplies for 1k 4-dose overloads along with 1k 4-dose extreme attack/strength/ranged, with 250 4-dose def/mage. I haven't yet had much use for the overloads, so most of those supplies are still banked without the torstols added. Hope this helps.
  7. Apparently they've jumped to 800-900m O.o What has, Virtus? That sounds hard to believe.
  8. If he's planning to max anyway, then presumably he'll want the completionist cape. All spells unlocked is a requirement for the cape I believe, so best to do livid farm while you can still use the farming experience.
  9. I think it's somewhat bizarre to hold a "vote" on the subject. Every time that such topics are posted, the forum members who read General Discussion have a vote on the topic based on its merits. Good topics get replies, bad topics die out. There's little need for a special vote; the forum software and user activity automatically handles this problem for everyone.
  10. The title of this topic is wrong. "Social" does not have the same meaning as "sexual". If you were trying to self-censor the title, perhaps something like "suggestive" would at least give a better idea of the thread contents.
  11. Thanks for linking to that :). In the discussion about trust trades not yet being against the rules, I'm guessing I somehow mixed that up with other types of scams or something? In any event, I'm glad to see that I was misinformed :).
  12. There are actually three two separate issues here: 1) Is gambling scamming, etc. This is up to Jagex, but so far they've been very wishy-washy on the subject. 2) Corrupt P-Mods and appeals failing on those corrupt and inaccurate reports. Assuming that posters here are being honest, this is straight-up Jagex problem to address. [hide=Old incorrect stuff, corrected below] 3) Jagex removed the rule for item scamming, such that item scamming in general doesn't actually seem to be breaking any rules anymore. This problem is definitely more serious than #1, and of arguable severity in comparison to #2. Personally, I'd like to think that corrupt player mods are few and far between, whereas item scamming is well known to be widespread, thus making this the more serious problem.[/hide]
  13. Dharoking waterfiends without a unicorn or even a bunyip sounds like a terrible idea. It'd be a constant balance for soul split to keep up with increased damage due to lower mage defense, all the while trying to avoid your hitpoints either dropping too low or going too high. Edit: In case it's gotten lost in the shuffle, the OP currently has level 42 summoning.
  14. Jagex has "Trust Trade" rule? where can I see it? Indeed! I've long been frustrated by the money "doublers", so I went a while back to look at the rules to see what, if anything, I could report them under. I figured if they got a mute or two maybe they'd cut it out. Unfortunately I was unable to find any rules related to trust trades or the like which I could use to report them. As I said, it isn't exactly a rule, but they do frown upon trust trades. This is from their item scamming prevention guide. http://www.runescape.com/kbase/guid/scamming_prevention_guide Thanks for the link, I remember reading that years ago when I was a newbie. I still find it unfortunate that Jagex takes action against legit hosts without making their policies clear. I sometimes attempt to weed out "doublers" by trusting them with 50k, and report when they log out or run away or refuse to double. I find it amusing that they find 50k (a rather insignificant amount of money) worth scamming someone over. It must be noted that although Jagex has posted a "guide" on how players can avoid being scammed by trust trades, they've notably not updated their rules to outlaw those trust trades. In other words, at this time there's no rule against trust trades, regardless of whether they "frown" on them. I can understand to a certain extent why, since some emergent gameplay relies on trust trades - there's no other mechanism that would make some things possible. Nevertheless, I wish they could at least outlaw trust trade scams, or item/trade scamming in general. Right now there's actually nothing you can report proven scammers for.
  15. People generally work hard to obtain achievements. But getting 99 in all skills, 120 dungeoneering and LOADS more stuff, only to receive a stats combined cape of Fire cape, Soul wars cape, Ardougne cloak etc is just STUPID. If they do it just for the stats, then yes, it's stupid. But, no one would do that. It's more for the looks and the fact that you are part of a select few, or the only one in the case Castle Wars, with this item. Even if it was +0 all stats, it would still be a great achievement to reach. I can almost guarantee no one is going for the cape because of the stats. Everyone realises that the Completionist cape doesn't need the Castle Wars to get it? It's only the TRIMMED version which does, and that has the same stats as the original. This. If you play the 5,000 castle wars games, you're only doing it for --- *GOLD SPARKLES*. You get no additional combat stats. If you feel "forced" to play 5,000 castle wars games for gold sparkles, then you would have already felt "forced" to play those games for the pre-existing castle wars cape which requires 5,000 games. Thus this update doesn't change anything for players affected by that particular level of compulsion.
  16. Jagex has "Trust Trade" rule? where can I see it? Indeed! 17. Taking time to get feathers is slow. It's obviously more efficient to use net fishing to catch shrimp and anchovies. NO FEATHERS NEEDED, EVEN CHEAPER!
  18. If I recall correctly, accurate/aggressive/defensive stances give you an invisible +3 bonus to the relevant skill, while controlled gives you +1 to each. So in terms of mechanics, it wouldn't be hard for monsters to have combat modes. But I doubt they do; what you saw was most likely just random chance.
  19. I'm sorry, but at this point I'm beginning to think you're just trolling. With the possible exception of Varrock, the Canifis portal is the most useful of the lot.
  20. Looking at your stats, it would be quite challenging to camp waterfiends with your summoning level + melee stats. You could guzzle prayer pots to keep soul split up, but it'll be much easier / more relaxing to do black demons. That said, black demons will be much more expensive, especially since you won't be yakking the ashes.
  21. Bank proximity is irrelevant, because with proper portal placement you can get to a bank faster by using a Varrock portal to get to the GE. For that matter, the Camelot and Falador portals are pretty close to banks as well. Yanille bank would only be closer if you have your teleport set to drop you off outside your house, but that would slow all other transits other than banking. If you have that much trouble deciding which 6 portals to get, then you're probably better off using 3 portal chambers to get them all. That said, there are some situations that make the portal exclusion choice easy. For example, if you end up placing your house in Yanille then you don't need a Yanille portal. If you're always or almost always on the regular spellbook, then you don't need a Lumbridge portal. Spirit tree placement is mostly irrelevant when discussing house placement, since none of the trees are very close to the house portals. It's a separate problem, and doesn't combinatorically contribute to the complexity of the house problem. The closest possible link is between the Brimhaven house portal and spirit tree patch, but I highly doubt that transit is quicker than using a Varrock portal to reach the GE's spirit tree. I recognize what you're saying about trying to make the problem "simpler" because including banking/items/etc would make for a much harder math problem. However, this isn't just a simpler problem, it's a fundamentally different problem altogether which gives entirely different answers to the real-world problem of how best to move around efficiently. Prior to Love Story, I would say that either Rellekka or Sophanem would be the most useful house locations, since those are fairly useful places to get to without teleport equipment. After Love Story, the whole issue really boils down to cosmetics. I don't think there are any objective metagame factors involved.
  22. Level 127 dungeoneering would be over the 200M experience cap, so level 130 obviously would be substantially over. Does Lemar manually track his additional experience outside of Runescape?
  23. Speaking of price efficient food, someone should mention wines. They're not suitable for use in melee combat since they temporarily lower your attack, but they're great for when you need to heal at a bank, or perhaps when ranging/maging something very weak. They heal 11 (110 new system) and you earn 67 coins from drinking them - empty jugs are worth more on the GE than jugs filled with wine, due to the large numbers of people training cooking with wine and minimal demand.
  24. I haven't gone scroll-hunting myself yet, but from what I've heard the easiest one to get is aberrant spectres. Cannoning them under Pollinivneach gives you a very high kill rate.
  25. Due to the strangely-lengthly discussion of the benefits of primal gauntlets vs. CCS as a third bind, I threw some numbers together quickly. 1:1 Melee:Mage DPS Ratio; CCS Attack Preference Frequency Base DPS DPS Bonus Final DPS Overall DPS Contribution Melee 0.6 1 0 1 0.6 Mage 0.4 1 0.3 1.3 0.52 Avg DPS 1.12 1:1 Melee:Mage DPS Ratio; Primal Gauntlets Attack Preference Frequency Base DPS DPS Bonus Final DPS Overall DPS Contribution Melee 0.6 1 0.06 1.06 0.636 Mage 0.4 1 0 1 0.4 Avg DPS 1.036 1:0.8 Melee:Mage DPS Ratio; CCS Attack Preference Frequency Base DPS DPS Bonus Final DPS Overall DPS Contribution Melee 0.6 1 0 1 0.6 Mage 0.4 0.8 0.3 1.04 0.416 Avg DPS 1.016 1:0.8 Melee:Magee DPS Ratio; Primal Guantlets Attack Preference Frequency Base DPS DPS Bonus Final DPS Overall DPS Contribution Melee 0.6 1 0.06 1.06 0.636 Mage 0.4 0.8 0 0.8 0.32 Avg DPS 0.956 These calculations are obviously simplistic, accounting for very few variables. However it should be clear that a 30% bonus on DPS for 40% of opponents can indeed be mathematically superior to a 6% bonus on 60% of opponents.
