  1. Have you looked at history? The church played a major role in encouraging scientific advancement. For a time, the church was the only functioning educational system in Europe; a large reason the church started to suppress scientific thought was because scientists started rejecting the church. For example, people often cite the case of Galileo of a prime example of the church suppressing science... but what people often forget to mention about Galileo was that he asked the church to immediately accept his views on Heliocentrism and insulted the Pope when asked to let the church investigate first. So your idea that science is "above the lens" and superior to other modes of thought... what is that? It appears you have a double standard. Seriously? Ok, sure, sorry. I should correct myself. The church supported scientific works that did not conflict with Christianity. You said it yourself, the Church began to suppress scientific thought because it went against the Church. The Church restricted science to things that would only benefit the church or not harm its position. How does that not restrict science? You're right on the Galileo thing though, and a pope later appologized for how the whole thing was handled. But the Church did suppress individualism and science (that went against the church), please don't try to deny that. I never said that. For all we know, science is that lens (but science has been proven, except theories). But all i'm saying is that i have a problem with RELIGION (yes, i would have a problem if our society began to be based on science, mathematics and data alone) when people claim that their view is the only view. I adhere to no God really (or i flip flop), but i don't try to say that there is no God, and anyone who belives in one is wrong. I think you're interpreting my statement in relation to the subject wrong. When he says people with higher IQ are typically athiest, it means they see the world in a different light than religious people do, with each thing caused by something else and not just BAM! CREATION! That's all.
  2. Getting cheated on sucks...sorry to hear that. But just basically follow the advice of others.. Time doesn't heal everything, but for what it doesn't heal, it's basically like neosporin. It helps. These things burn a lot at the beginning, but as you start to meet other people and do other things, you start to forget. I mean, when it's been 2 years, it will leave a scar no doubt. But just give it time and ignore her unless she comes up to you and apologises.
  3. So. Am i dead? Well, i'm not quite dead. But i'm not quite a alive either. I guess you could say i'm a zombie i suppose. But here's the deal. I've been playing more, as some of you may have noticed. I haven't really been around TIF, as most you have not noticed. I've been doing mainly TET behind the scenes work, and popping in every now and then in places. I'm quite out of the loop now, so it's hard to pretend like i know what i'm talking about :P But back to rs. Yeah. So i've been playing a smidge on Dark Alcyte and Mikeyt44 (my pure), and that's been fun, a nice way to unwind. But it's come to the point (on Dark Alcyte at least) where i can't do anything anymore. I'm f2p, i can't bank any of my crap, i can't change my armor except my hat, i can't do any skills that i want to do, and i'm just bored with f2p at least. So yeah. I've said this multiple times about me quitting, and i'm never really completely gone. But just posting this, in case anyone was wondering where i was. I'd definitely play more if i had members. But things have changed. Back when i played runescape, i was pretty reclusive honestly--i had my close group of friends and did average in school. But after taking a serious break, i've really started to branch out and do different things and be better at being me. Sometimes it's good to do that, give rs a break for a while and find out who you are. If you can do that while still being committed to rs, more power to ya. I couldn't find the ability to do that. Back to rs again lol. I could get members i suppose, but there's no point honestly. August's coming up and i have to start getting committed to cross country again, school starts up in september and then the gears start rolling again all the way until summer. And then the process repeats. So i doubt i'll have members again for a while. But who knows what the future holds? That's something i've definitely learned during my hiatus. It's too hard to tell what's going to happen next. So this isn't an elaborate fairwell speech, it's just an elaborate speech. I'll still be here, maybe a little more than i have been. So yep. Any ideas on something to do are welcome!
  4. So um..awkward silence... Sorry to bump this or even post, but good job on the recent levels...i thought i'd never see the day when you'd start skilling lol..but gratz, keep it up.
  5. I agree, I don't find their music very much special..... Maybe it's just that I don't like them... I'm not sure sure...i mean, it's one thing not to like them and not respect them. You have to recognize what it was. No one had done what they did before. No band in the history of the world had been as popular as they were. McCartney may be the greatest music virtuoso to grace the 20th century, Lennon was an absolute genius and George was just...ah, indescribably awesome (Ringo was good, but not spectacular). They brought fun and emotion to music that hasn't really been on a similar scale since. I mean, i don't really understand not liking them (i see people who's interests are like hardcore rap or death metal, but they love the beatles) because they're so accessable, but whatever. Your opinion. Umm: Dragonforce My Chemical Romance 3 Doors Down 3 Days Grace Panic at the Disco AC/DC Boston Those are only rock bands...i could go on with rap, but that'd take a while.
  6. Ja, it is houses of the holy. Hm. i'd have to say: Name Of Song: Aqualung Artist: Jethro Tull Album: Aqualung Just so beautiful. It's got everything that makes a good song...a nasty catchy riff, an accoustic gentler part, a guitar solo and fantastic lyrics and musicianship. Either that or these two: Name Of Song: A Day in the Life Artist: The Beatles Album: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band What can i say. Greatest song off the greatest album by the greatest band of all time. It's just so beatiful...blends the geniuses of McCartney and Lennon together beautifully
  7. Down is the New Up--Radiohead From Disc 2 of In Rainbows. Look it up. It's stunning.
  8. The infinite series (1/2) + (1/4) + (1/8)... = 1 so it does in fact touch because it converges to 1. But theoretically the series will go on forever, so it can't really be added up totally
  9. But seriously...prove god...you can't just turn and say "OMGOMGOMGOMG BIG BANG CAN'T BE PROVEN!!!!" and then just forget about the whole..."umm what happened then" question. Eh, having just read Freud's "Civilization and its Discontents" it kinda makes sense. Religion is a dillusion of the masses. Goes along with Nieztche too...that religion makes us see the world in a lense that we think is the right one, preventing us from seeing the world in different lights. So consequentially, scientists see the world in a different sense, and are above the lense that most religions claim to have. I mean the whole with Christianity and the world being 4,000 or however many years old...eh...we got Uranium-Lead dating...evolution...in the end, we can't prove religion one way or another. You can't prove the lack of it either. But i'm getting off subject again... (Something along the lines of) Intelligence is overrated Ok, yeah according to the BIBLE. The Bible may be self-proving to Christians, but not to everyone else. What if i adhere to the beliefs of Plato, who believes that wisdom is the most powerful element in the soul? Or John Dewey, who believes that intelligence is a key factor in attaining freedom? And why does what this guy says apply to everyone? I'm being educated, and i'm personally enjoying it...not much sorrow here, sorry. Intelligence is helping me understand how i live better. As someone else stated, i feel like religion is almost the easy way out. We just use it to understand that which we cannot and is too hard to understand. It almost holds us back in some senses. As Freud states, now he puts it kind of harshly, but yeah. I feel like it's almost the easy way out. As you put it so intelligently, BTTF_Man, Yes, indeed, for your average preacher can, without a doubt, prove the origins of the universe as well. But he'll probably use the bible. So how do you prove the bible...? God said so. Can't you see we're running in circles? Maybe people with higher IQs can't discover the origins of the universe, maybe they can't even come close, but sure as hell can try. You know what else they can do? Discover cures for cancer, AIDS, malaria, SARS. Explore the frontiers of space. Determine how we humans came into existence. Create a better, more efficient government and attempt to gain world peace. Please look at history. Go back to the enlightment. Notice how the big thinkers really started to emerge there. Notice how the big break throughs started there. They weren't restricted by the church (Freud). I'm perfectly fine with religion, and i might be religious, i don't know. But when people start to get into the dillusion that they're way is the right way, that's when i have a problem.
  10. Not quite. This is a common philosophical paradox...Zeno? yeah. Zeno's paradox: If you a shoot an arrow at a target, it never really hits the target. The arrow has to go halfway right? And then halfway again? And then halfway again correct? It keeps goin halfway until infinity (meaning it never hits the ground) There actually might be a mathematical theorem that disproves this, but regardless, it's interesting. I'd be really impressed if you thought of this on your own.
  11. Um..just regular kiss? Watching a movie with my ex-girlfriend...Little Miss Sunshine lol. But "snog" as it was described...right after this big garage sale type thing (it's awesome and weird. don't ask) at my school me and my gf were talkin in the middle of the second floor and since it was the big sale no one was around. Yeah.... For all those who haven't...eh, just wait. Find the girl you really like and don't just do it to do it...and once you do start, it kinda picks up there. Trust me \ EDIT: yeah this is kinda surprising how many people haven't...come on TIF! Get up there and take some action (or get some) EDIT 2: It takes a lot for someone to say something on TIF to make me actually laugh at loud, and it's really rare. That was absolutely hilarious
  12. Rap is an aquired taste. Once you find some of the really good stuff, it's absolutely hilareous and awesome. Listen to (in my opinion) the best rapper out there: MF Doom. He's just ridiculous...i mean, given, some of the mainstream stuff (i.e. Soulja Boy) is just awful...but that comes with every genre. Of course, most of mainstream rap is crap so that's a little different...but anyway. To the people who are getting down on rap for sending out bad messages and being terrible...that's just wrong. You can't say that because Jefferson Starship was a terrible band for the most part, rock sucks. Or if you hate Europe or something, then saying that the 80s was a terrible decade for music. You can't classify a genre just by a few artists, or even by the mainstream and majority. Sure, some rap talks about sex and women in a deragory way, but i mean...you can't get down on them for that. Just look at a song by one of the greatest Rock bands ever to grace the face of the earth: The rolling stones. Don't tell me that the song "Start me up" doesn't make grotesque sexual references when you hear the lyrics "You make a grown man cry, you make a dead man [bleep]"...seriously? Rap can be terrific, just give it a little respect. I cannot stand scream and most post-punk rock (your mainstream bands), and also those sell out bands that i can't classify (i.e. Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montana, etc)
  13. Off and on between: Aqualung (the entire album)--Jethro Tull Amnesiac--Radiohead
  14. Fletching easily...there's just nothing to it, and the only helpful part of it is making bows to alch..it doesn't actually make anything that people use reguarlily.
  15. Wow, interesting... I doubt it's sailing...but just riding on a ship, like you did in Dragon Slayer. So yeah, my guess is 150th quest: Dragon Slayer pt. 2, new staff, new cape and beastly dragon to kill. My guess is that you have to get to this far off island, but you need this special ancient boat to get there...seems jagex-y
  16. That's up to the admins if they want to disclose that or not. For now it's best not to ask and just enjoy that we have the forums back. Well it's nice to have things back...but it's kinda different! Will take some getting used to i suppose.
  17. took ya long enough buddy  sorry i wasn't there, but i mean it 150% when i say congratulations. Great job
  18. omgeezwafflesz he's back! <3<3<3 good luckererers
  19. I can't help but feel like i had somewhat of a part in this Once you're off it, you can start to slightly enjoy it again. Pop in, say hi to friends and not get obsessed again. good luck. i'm here for ya.
  20. great read. I agree with you on just about everything...that was really interesting to read...great job! I think you really did a good job looking at everything. Looking a lot of responses, people remember the bad a lot more than the good and think about that a lot more, and you didn't jump to that conclusion.
  21. yeah, but not 3. dat's right. i'm touched though... Anyway, over these past few days i just started winning rl life...which is cool. things are working out.
  22. tbh, i r winning rl though...08 gon be gud yur. i like du lettuh "u"
  23. i've heard the joke before...it's really funny. Beniscool218 oooooo. nice jub nub
  24. Wow, how time flies. 3 years ago (yesterday) i created "Dalcyte", after finding tif like so many others do; looking up runescape help lol. 3 Years. It hasn't seemed like that long that i've been in this great community. I've basically seen it all (except that few months prior to my account creation). I posted about finding those 7 yellow phats and 8mil 3 years ago, and got flamed at for "no pic no proof". Some things are always the same lol. I had the pics, but imageshack hated me back then, so i just let the whole matter be. Anyway, i've seen great people come and go...sad moments happy moments. The days of the TET when Ravinasian, Trjojann and Articrunite were heading it--came to my first even in May 05 (Quite late, but TET hadn't taken off very big until early 2005-ish) and won the Phyrefest with my crazy pyro costume. Still have the reward of a couple thousand yews and fire runes (Second prize actually went to my later friend Ajc, who was on the TET but recently had to leave because of crew work). Years past, and i enjoyed the community more than ever. Met basically my entire friends list, and some of the best friends i've ever met through tip it. February 2007 I got into the TET and have been trying to give back to the community (while enjoying myself lol) ever since. Just a longish paragraph that no one will read, but i felt like i should type for no apparant reason. Thanks tip it for the past 3 years.
  25. 1. read his full post. 2. Random event clothing would be armor, which you can equip, making it combat. 4. You can wield a wc axe... 5. Query's are for query's. A query is a question, this is a suggestion, not a query, so it'd go in the suggestion forum of the RSOF Good suggestion, and i think it could work...but as it's been said, RWT would just get combat items... probably a way around that, but it's late lol, and i'm tired
