Best gear for slaying.
Quyneax's post is a pretty good run-down of what you need to slay efficiently. You CAN slay, and maybe even enjoy it, without chaotic weapons, or even without cannoning. It is definitely worth getting at LEAST access to piety, and training your Summoning. Summoning is sooooo useful to slayers, between healing familiars, bobs, and titans. it's worth, in my opinion, to work on obtaining Korasi's sword, too. It's a good alternative to rapier for a stab weapon, which is a must, since you will encounter many tasks needing stab. Cannoning is a tossup. Most of my guildmates in SGV1 swear by it, but I don't have the cash flow to personally justify the cost of cannonballs. Particularly when many of the tasks that would be cannoned are not real big moneymakers, period. I love Slayer. It is my favorite skill in Runescape. I find it both a relaxing grind, but less "grindy" than most skills. Have fun with it. It won't take you long to get a feel for which tasks you like and which ones you don't.

1-Oct-2011: Behind the Scenes - October
Am I the only person who read the BTS and felt the chat changes to be the highlight of the month? The idea of reliving previously defeated bosses doesn't particularly thrill me. I apologize for sounding so glum; usually I enjoy reading the BTS and look forward to the new content on the horizon, but this time... well, we'll see when it gets here. I am looking forward to the chat changes however. It's always annoyed me how often while trying to have a conversation, my text gets cut off because I went off the terribly small character limit per line.

Your first 99?
Early last year I got 99 Defence, and about a month later I got 99 HP, 99 Attack, 99 Strength, and 99 Slayer all within 2 weeks of each other. A few months later I finished off Summoning, and well.. that is all I have. Combat noob FTW!

How money comes in and out of RS
No, I wouldn't count monster drops as money leaving the game. Say I have 1m coins, and I kill a monster and it drops 500 coins. If I keep it, I now have 1,000,500 coins which would be money coming into the game. If I leave it behind... it goes away. Which would leave me with 1m coins. Well, if you are by yourself it does. If there is other people nearby, there is always a chance they will pick up your discarded coins. Then it becomes money coming in again, but to someone else.

Torstols
And with pretty reliable frequency, too. Atleast I seemed to get them often. I don't know a lot about how to set up calculations to determine the actual rate of getting them, but if someone wants, I would be more than willing to try and help collect data. Come on you math wizards, help a girl out?

Tip.It Times - 18th September 2011
40 hour RPGs or gtfo. Real gamers are still playing Morrowind. Yes, that means you. And you too, in the back.

Tip.It Times - 18th September 2011
My first thought upon comparing this game to DOTA was, we'd be all set if we could get Basshunter to sing about RuneScape. Ok, the article does a good job pointing out the stigma of RS being much less complicated, therefore not as meaningful in terms of gamer street cred. I can't say that I know anyone in real life who plays runescape, but I know scores who play the other ones mentioned. I am at work, and there's more I wanted to say but I will have to come back to it. But on a closing note... Puzzle Pirates is for 8-13 year olds? /wrist Ok, I will amend my last statement. Those 8 year olds certainly weren't battle navigating during a blockade, or acting as an officer on a lengthy sea monster hunt. Both job requiring a lot of patience, some stellar interpersonal skills, and some good strategy.

For those that "quit", what made you come back?
I've played more than a few MMOs, including that other big MMORPG with Orcs and Elves and Gnomes... That's the usual reason for me to drift away... I get bored, or I decide to try out a new game, I get caught up for a while, and then I get bored and come back to RS. The real thing that keeps me coming back is my guild. I've been in plenty of clans and guilds and alliances, and none are as much fun as the ladies and gentlemen of SGV1. And you know, I don't pay 15 bucks a month to get verbally abused by Huntards and Fail Tanks.

Just WHAT is a solid money gaining activity?
slayer's money making capabilities have been gone for some time now. Whips ate 500k, herbs low, Dbows at 250k, mauls at 30k, SOLS at 1.5m (?), it's not what it was... You can say that again. Though, it is still steady income, at least. I save more of my drops now, and in the case of herbs and seeds I have always saved them. I guess in this stage of the game where I am pretty broke and don't enjoy the current moneymakers, every herb, log, ore, etc. saved is one more I don't have to buy.

Summoning
That, or what my guildmate did for his Summoning pure. He used Soul Wars/lamps/etc to bring up his Slayer to 65. Then, with some difficulty and coordination with a few friends, we escorted him into the Chaos Tunnels to where the Dust Devils are, and proceeded to LootShare the dust devils for him. They are very fast kills, drop plenty of crims, and hey, always the chance of a dragon chain drop.

Slayer Guide Recruiting. *Updated*
I hope I am doing it right... HERE is the link to the document I am using. Spreadsheets boggle me. Also, how do we add in a Vyrewatch task?

What do you have in your flower patch?
I get plenty of limpwurt seeds from slaying, so when I remember I bring them along. Not a whole lot of effort required. Now that I am 96 herb (thanks BXP!) I don't feel the need to make super level pots, so I can start using up my seeds from slayer and actually sell em! Whee!

When training melee, do you guys
I did until around 80 or so in all three. By then I was pretty entrenched in Slaying and I decided to get 99 defense. After that I raised Attack and strength pretty evenly to 90, then focused on 99 Attack, and 99 strength. I got bored of Sara sword by like 95 strength that I gave up and just trained with whip on controlled. Nowadays I am usually on defensive.

Help with Overloads
Yeah the real issue there is that brews drop your attack stats, so when you find yourself taking multiple doses in a row, you are dropping your own attack and strength further and further. To combat this, you need to bring super restores, and according to most of the pvm experts, you should plan on a ratio of 3:1 or even 2:1, meaning for every 3 sips of Sara Brew you take, you need 1 sip of Super Restore. Additionally, and I freely admit to not being a pvm expert, you can solo handle without turn and chaotics... Plenty of people have done so, just don't expect the speed and number of kills per trip as someone with those things.

Uses for the Pack Yak
Yeah it's been my goal for a long time. I mean looking from a yackless perspective, pack yak is game breaking. Camping a monster and don't want to bank? Send to bank! 28 inventory spaces not enough? How about MORE THAN DOUBLE? Your war tortoise keeps making the boss aggressive? No worries, i'll not touch him. Oh yes. I always cringed when my War Tortoise decided to come to my rescue. Made that mistake on an aberrant spectre task in the Pollivneach well... it was not pretty.

Method to get phoenix feathers
It's almost what I did to get 1500 feathers for bxp-weekend. But when I was done picking, I teled to relekka slayer cave with slayer ring to enter fairy rings there. ? A larupia is extremely cheap - and you won't go through more then two an hour... Having a larupia is definatelly beneficial (really you can't spare ~6k an hour at current ge prices?) By any means, it's definately a horrible idea to run around zanaris to bank and come back via fairy ring. I wouldn't be surprised if I could get in at least 3-4 full inventories per hour more then you could with a Larupia + ring of duelling. In before this becomes an efficiency thread but this is just ridiculous Of course if you find running around fairies/green shrubbery, the desert soooooooooooooooo much fun - then that's obviously a better choice. Maybe we want a shrubbery!

Troll hacking???
Only real 'troll' hacking I've seen was a few years ago, one of my friends was hacked and lost his entire bank. Instead his bank was filled with... the exact number of shrimp required for him to get 99 Cooking.

Training ranged
I assume there is a minimum level for this? Chinning is great at say, 90+ but what about lower levels?

Need a point in the right direction
I wish I knew where to tell you to go... I wasn't even training combat when I was f2p, when I went p2p I started training slayer, which in turn trained my combat skills, as well as gave me the fun and variety of tasks to keep me interested. Even now at 99 slayer and 136 combat I don't have the stomach for most lengthy camping sessions. (And on an unrelated note, 247 kalphites does not mean 247 kalphite queen kills. Never again!)

Training ranged
Yeah I don't know why people would still be using MSB. Knives make very short work of greaters. :P.

200M in all Skills
Only interaction I have heard about concerning that mod was a guildmate of mine has his name (a name he has held for years) changed citing that it was inappropriate. That particular mod was responsible for renaming him as Player_[random numbers] and it is unable to be changed. Otherwise, never heard of him.

Training ranged
I've heard that in a couple other places too, about using MSB instead of knives. Maybe for the spec? No idea...

Method to get phoenix feathers
They don't carry feathers which is why you would be using yak. You could bring summoning pots however, since like say, banking dragon bones at blue dragons, yak won't keep up without help. I just dress up like a highwayman like my hero Rick Turpentine and run out there. It's not a terrible journey from shantay pass and the fact we can pay the toll from our bank helps speed it up. I just use a duel ring after getting a full inventory, grab my cactus spikes, and bank at shantay pass. As far as turning 4 dose into 3 dose, there is a lady in Nardah across from the bank. She will take them noted, but she either requires extra empty vials, or cash to cover the cost. Also, like the guy at the GE, she will do extremes, but only unnoted.

02-Sep-2011 - Bonus XP Weekend - 9th to 12th of September
I disagree! I manage quite fine with 61 Dungeoneering. Then again, I can't compare to life WITH a chaotic... You would wonder how you ever played without one. VERY. [bleep]ING. PAINFULLY. Put it that way. Im still on 74 and no one really seems to dunge anymore or only does immense high floors. I need a [bleep]ing chaotic something chronic, especially since I only have a d scimmy thanks to getting hacked. OT: Agility sucks, Ihu Jagex, make it faster. I guess it is all relative to what you plan to do with it. All I really do these days is Slay, and while, yes, I do someday want a rapier, I don't feel my gameplay is stunted without it. I am in the same boat as Tim... Random groups barely finish a floor, and those with higher levels want to do higher floors. So I do dunge occasionally, just only while my guildmates are on their way to higher floors.
