  1. Runescape's technology is far from obsolete. In fact, for a browser game based on Java, it is cutting edge. The word you are looking for is inefficient. Much more could be done at far less performance cost if there was a full C++ client.
  2. Mod Korpz (Head of FunOrb for all who don't know) has either been fired from Jagex or he left the company. His iCould video has been removed by Jagex. As you may or may not remember, Henrique Olifiers (head of MechScape) also had his iCould video removed when he got fired, and Jagex confirmed his absence from the company quite a while after the initial removal. I have sent Jagex multiple messages on both of their Twitter accounts, both of their YouTube channels, and Mod Ajd's twitter account. These sites always answer simple questions very quickly, but Jagex has refused to even publish my question "Is Mod Korpz still at Jagex?" on their YouTube accounts even though they have published "Bring back wildy pl0x" and things like "Jagex your updates fail lol". Anyone who has been following FunOrb knew this was bound to happen. FunOrb is basically a completely irrelevant, non-profitable moneysink for Jagex with very limited resources. Jagex has already partially collapsed FunOrb into their Jagex.com website, and FunOrb games say "Jagex" instead of "FunOrb" when you log in. I foresee the FunOrb site being shut down in a few months to a year. Head of Mechscape = Canned (Game replaced by Stellar Dawn - now headed by Andrew Gower) Head of FunOrb = Canned (Service partially replaced by Jagex.com - future is uncertain and unconfirmed) Seems like Jagex needs to start hiring individuals with more game industry experience instead of relying on promoting-from-within as per usual. Especially if the roles deal with heading a game or service that costs a lot of money for Jagex. Further supplementary proof: - Mod Korpz was supposed to release a status diary a month ago. - He has not made any follow up threads on the forums like he usually does when something is delayed. - Jagex is maintaining a strict silence on his status - Mod Korpz had often talked about his frustration in working in a subcompany with such little resources and investment What do you guys think of this turn of events?
  3. Your argument is new and clever. It's actually none of those things, so please post it on RSOF and leave this community for mature discussion.
  4. do you perhaps mean liberal [compared to my own political views] slant in a liberal [compared to my own political views] slant country? The only reason environmentalism is associated with the left is because the right has been in bed with big corporations that care about nothing but their own profits for so long. Jagex has said absolutely nothing about the redistribution of wealth or the worker's revolution or anything else that you seem to be afraid of. Your only argument that they are liberal is that they took a stand against air pollution. I mean to imply that they are a liberally slanted company in a liberally slanted country. Yes, the right has been in bed with them for a long time, altering tax codes, interfering with regulations, and overall screwing things up. The left has meanwhile done what they can to destroy small business and individual freedom as it relates to business. I'm never implied that Jagex was Communists, but they do lean to the left. Thank god I'm not a liberal or a conservative (nor part of the assanine teap party movement crap). I'm a Libertarian. Anyway, back to the quest. Fairy Tale pt. 3 - Teeth are [developmentally delayed]ed. Video games. Serious business.
  5. Looks like Bloom is gonna come with the upcoming engine update (Water reflections, dynamic shadows, particle effects)
  6. P2p should be fixed before F2p seeing as F2p is a demo. Paying customers come first. If you are going to make a stupid argument like "F2P is a demo" then at least try to prove it. F2P has never been and never will be a demo. A demo has limits, while F2P as a game has no limits. F2P just lacks the content that Members has. Therefore, you can't say that its a demo. Futhermore, Jagex has always affirmed that F2P is a full game with an available expansion called Members. Go ahead and deny it and say "JAGEX FAILS LOLOLOLOL"
  7. The hell are you going on about? You can make any DirectX game 3D with the proper drivers + glasses. Stop whining if you don't like it. OP was just showing his appreciation for the fact that he can now play Runescape (like any other DirectX game) in 3D.
  8. Agreed, except the Runescape community has always skewed young, there really is no recent influx (other than the massive influx from Miniclip). All my filters are on 'Friends'
  9. ^ When compared to any other game developer, Jagex IS unreasonably secretive (alright, Valve is a bit more secretive). They simply have no reason to not give us long-term plans. For example, they told us about Mobilising Armies way before it came out. This should happen. Yes, it got delayed, but telling us about it is more important then keeping us from raging about a delay. The whole community shouldn't suffer because a minority of immature people can't handle promised content being delayed. They already tell us their long-term content plans in short, unprofessional bursts (the Content Q&A's). Why not have a quarterly, professional newspost about long-term content plans that describe a lot of things, instead of small tidbits of info on the Q&A's? The selection of info that Jagex gives us is extremely arbitrary. If you are going to tell us "Yes, there will be a Dragon Crossbow in the game once we balance out the Combat triangle" why not say "Yes, we are going to have a 25 man raid with new weapons"? Their fake secrecy just creates pointless tension and suspense for updates, which makes a lot of people underwhelmed when it actually comes out.
  10. So why is everyone getting so excited about this? Because most people don't like playing MS-DOS games. (i'm not saying Runescape looks like an MS-DOS game, i'm just saying graphical enhancements are important)
  11. I don't understand how any of you are arguing that confidential info won't be exposed. The Cataclysm Friends and Family Alpha (meaning only the friends and family of Blizzard employees had access to it) was leaked on release day. And all of them signed NDA's. It's not a matter of WHETHER the information is going to be leaked, it matters if Jagex CARES. And no, this isn't just about Blizzard or just about Cataclysm. Every single beta gets leaked, because its literally impossible to pinpoint the source of all the information and no one actually goes to jail or pays any fines. Beta confidentiality agreements are a notorious joke. However, Blizzard doesn't care about revealing upcoming content, they preview patches and hold developer talks about the specifics of upcoming updates regularly. Also, most of the features of Cataclysm have already been revealed and its a year away from release. Unless Jagex starts having the same mindset as Blizzard and starts treating their customers with respect (aka actually informing them of upcoming content instead of pretending like that will make the content rushed) we aren't going to get public beta testing from Jagex. MMG has already stated in his Youtube Q&A that Jagex is interested in beta testing large pieces of content, so we might see Jagex's mindset change soon enough.
  12. Indeed, the Cataclysm Friends and Family Alpha has already been leaked to the general public. If Jagex continues to think that updates should be secret surprises, then we are never going to get beta testing. If Jagex starts having Blizzard's mindset and doesnt care whether people know of upcoming content, then we will see betas. It's all about the company mindset.
  13. I was talking to Den You didn't prove anything. I already know everyone has their own taste, but what do you think taste is dictated by? Age, experience, knowledge, etc. If someones "taste" is to think cooking sharks is fun, then they are either braindead or haven't played a fun video game. It's a simple fact, and everyone knows it. ^ This
  14. Who are you to say what EVERYONE finds fun and what EVERYONE finds not fun, kid? Because if someone finds clicking a shark then clicking a range 1000 times fun, they are either braindead or don't know what video games are supposed to be. (Protip: Entertaining) Keep pretending like you have fun cooking sharks though, it amuses me.
  15. I like how you pretend cooking sharks is fun and a cure for boredom. Seems like you haven't played any other video game if you think cooking sharks is fun. If you dont find it fun then why do you even play. Whos worse, the person who plays and enjoys it or the person that plays and hates every moment their on. Yet they still play, and post on fansites related to the game they dislike. I play Runescape for fun. Cooking sharks isn't fun. Cooking sharks allows you to have fun (Doing PvP, doing bosses, doing quests). Don't mistake resource gathering for actual objectives. You kids get really defensive, seems like you guys know you are nerds who can't afford other games. Haha i play other games, but the reason i play this game is because i enjoy playing it too. Clearly if you dont enjoy the recource gathering and training skills (which is 90% of what this game is) your playing the wrong game. Go play WoW they got some nice PvP and bosses and quests without cooking sharks. And eh, i could care less about being called a nerd by someone over the internet posting on a Runescape fansite. Dont worry, I do play WoW (80 Ele Shaman, 5800 GS). I play Runescape because the quest content is miles better than WoW's quest content, and because many of my friends play Runescape and I enjoy doing bosses with them. Gathering is not 90% of the game, its only 90% of the game if you want it to be.

  17. ITT: Nerds who spend hours clicking on Runescape for no in-game benefit pretend they aren't nerds. I like how you pretend cooking sharks is fun and a cure for boredom. Seems like you haven't played any other video game if you think cooking sharks is fun.
  18. Someone who gets a 99 purely to be on the top highscores IS a nerd. You thought otherwise? Give me a break... People who get a 99 due to the benefits of getting that level, such as things that actually give you an in-game advantage (whether it be money or unlocks) aren't nerds, because they are doing it for an actual reason.
  19. According to this thread, Jagex should not have given this little reward because of a few hardcore nerds that would pay 75 dollars for a purely cosmetic item. Lol @ some people
  20. So is the bunny ears, or the scythe. Would the players who have them mind if Jagex give them out again? It's just a cosmetic item. The answer is yes, by the way. a difference is a difference. Bunny ears and scythe show longevity. Flag shows fiscal naivety (or affluence if you happen to have some money to burn, yet still nothing game-related) You can make up things all you want. For example, I can say that a Flag shows dedication to the game, since the person went to an IRL event for the game. Either way, you're argument is completely subjective and pointless.
  21. this ignores the existence of the game-tick limitation of runescript as a programming language. within a game tick, what action would hold precedence? would there be an order (prayer, eating, spell etc. etc.) would it be random? why hasn't a similar GCD been applied to wielding items and "8 item switches"? i believe that is quite possibly because a GCD can't be implemented. A gcd of one action per game tick would slow down the entire game significantly, as that would be the only way to limit hotkeys!?! Hotkeys would be shortcuts for specific items/spells/prayers. What you mentioned in your post are simply hotkeys for switching menus, but you still need to manage those menus (click the contents of the menu, quickly switch to another menu, click the contents of that menu). Menu-managing is not user-friendly, and it's not difficult, its simply tedious. Again, with GCD's and limited number of hotkeys, coupled with the fact that everyone has these features available, there would be no unfair advantage in the game. And I disagree with your assumption that a GCD hasn't been implemented only because its impossible in the current game engine. Bloom lighting isn't currently implemented in the game either. Does that mean its impossible to do in the engine? Nope, because it's due to be released this year. I guarantee that Jagex will be shifting to keyboard controls in the next year or so. It's inevitable, because it allows for greater depth of gameplay, since boss fights/combat mechanics aren't limited to how well someone can manage their menus, but rather how good the player's skills and reflexes are in the actual game.
  22. Lol. Wow... I don't even know what to say. The point of hotkeys is to have different clicks instantly accessible through keyboard keys, instead of managing several different menus. Good enough for you?
  23. Yes, but macros can still be used currently for the limited hotkeys that we do have. If Jagex ends up extending hotkeys like the OP suggests, they will put a global cooldown on hotkey usage, like every game does. Therefore, having macros that do many things at once will be rendered useless.
