  1. Wha? Are they stopping to harvest every single resource possible? Jagex did not plan for us to figure out Rushing. Because Runescape players invented the speedrun  Anytime Jagex hands out hours to a publication, they are inflated. Has nothing to do with the reality of the situation.
  2. That's not how I took that comment. If you're trying to test a new game tutorial you're not going to bring in a bunch of adults who have common sense and have been playing rs for years... You're going to bring in a group of kids who don't know what they're doing. And you can still get free stuff from shops, can't you? I distinctly remember recently going to the Lumbridge fishing shop and at the top left (I think) there was a button you could push to get a free crayfish crate thingy and small net. Makes sense that other shops in the starter area would have other things to help newer players; all they need to do is bother to explore a bit. It's not hard to figure out what to do in runescape. I mean, the fishing shop is clearly marked on both the world map and the minimap. Buy something that you'd use irl to fish, find a body of water (also marked on the world map) and use one on the other. *All* of the starter skills you can learn in f2p use simple common sense, and I find it hard to believe that anyone would find it hard to work out what to do. We didn't always have helpful map icons everywhere. I dont know why you bring up common sense and RS experience.. Focus testing is not getting experienced players to play the game, focus testing is when you pick up random people and you observe them playing the game. Anyways. If your game is for adults you bring in adults for focus testing. End of. Ash just let the cat out of the bag.
  3. I'm surprised Ash admitted they brought in "kids" for focus testing. I've never once heard a Jagex employee admit that they aim the game towards children.
  4. What really annoys me is that Dungeoneering is diverting the graphics guys, so much-needed graphical updates like trees and gnomes are being delayed..
  5. Go back into your cave troll OT: I pay whenever i feel like playing Looks like we're gonna need a bigger boat. /reference I agree with Blade wing completely, if you hate the game, thats fine, but find a new website. However, as bows posted, if off topic gives you pleasure, then thats fine. But remember that the game has changed, and getting on 5 minutes a month doesn't mean you are continuously knowledgeable of how the game is run. People who quit in 06 come around here saying "yea rs sucks" ok. So I assume you re-subbed, and tested out the new features? No? Oh ok. I'm still wrong I assume? On topic: It has stopped me to be honest. However, RS is literally the only game I play. Except for when Portal 2/forced unleashed 2 comes out. Off topic again: Guys, you're not trolling for simply disagreeing with the masses. Infact, there are maybe 1 or 2 true trolls here. The rest have been banned. Making sardonically witty comments is not trolling, it's being human, and having fun. I dont know why you assume that every person that dislikes RS is an "'06 veteran" (I lol at people who think 07 and 06 were the golden years) but anyone that isn't blinded by their addiction to Runescape realizes that the core design of the game is extremely outdated. I've been playing Runescape off and on ever since '03. Good quests, fun minigames, awful combat, awful grinding, awful controls. The reason why i'm on Tip It is because I still follow Runescape to do the new content that interests me.
  6. Why is Chris L the new Elven curator? Mod Dylan is back at Jagex.... I dont think he will be content with only doing Elemental Workshop quests after being the original developer for the most interesting quest series in the game... Not a new engine, just enough resources (time + developers). If they developed the city this year it would have meant no Dungeoneering. (inb4 Dung haters rage)
  7. ITT: Pseudo-intellectuals try to pretend that grammar isn't important. Hey, since language is nothing but a tool that humans use for communication, lets say its not important and grasp of language is not an indicator of intelligence. Really nice logic. By the way, just wondering, why is your post so grammatically correct if it doesn't matter? Looks like you're trying to make sense when you write. Don't be so pretentious. ITT: herp derp srry L so wat i ment waz dat sumtimes i rite v gud somtimes i rite v bad but i dnt rly try liek good hard to do either one. yerp. i mean which ever 1 i want i do. like scooby doo. Is that better? And fyi, don't say pseudo intellectual because it sounds cool. And no, I said grammar is a tool of language. Nice reading comprehension. And I guess you've never take a logic class, so I'm not going to touch that hot potato. All I'm saying (which I know you know, but ignored to try and be an ass) is that don't get mad at people for typing how they want to type. Sometimes you may see type in a proper manner, other times I may just post random sentences that rhyme with L at the end. Its whatever I feel like. Obviously you dont know what pseudo-intellectual means if you think I used the word to look cool. Also, I didn't know "logic classes" existed. You're out of your league buddy, dont try to damage control your way out of this one. Feelings have nothing to do with being coherent when writing.
  8. Basically: "Hey, I withstood countless hours of grinding to get a few pixels and an emote. Check them out!" Inb4 the 99 squad tries to tell me that its fun to grind for hours.

  10. You literally made me laugh out loud. Props dude. ....Wait, you were being serious? Oh, dear  I have to say I agree with shady, and disagree with lala. I play World of Warcraft, and I can say that the storyline World of Warcraft derives from is much longer, and more in depth than almost any of Runescape's existing content. The fact that RS quest developers can't even manage to write a quest without inserting a thousand pop culture references just shows how pedestrian the writing at Jagex is. WoW's lore, while definitely not the gold standard of storytelling, is at least deep and contains heavy, mature themes. One of the reasons i'm so excited about Stellar Dawn is that they actually have a writing staff for that game. Hopefully that translates into some mature stuff with more depth.
  11. That was exactly my point... comprehension ftw
  12. The majority of the Runescape population is 12-15... Have fun being a virtual businessman. I prefer to actually play video games for fun rather than simulate real life. Doing an epic quest and slaying a boss? Yup. Playing into a virtual stock market? I'll save that for the kids.
  13. Merchanting isn't bloody illegal, relax... You're right. It is moronic, though. How people choose to make their money is their decision and beyond our control, so complaining about it like Pulli23 is, is a waste of time. Besides, did you think merchanting was 'moronic' before the introduction of the GE? Buying rune med helms at 10k and selling them for 11k, that was moronic? People doing drugs is also their decision and beyond my control. That doesn't stop me from calling it moronic. As has been stated numerous times in this thread, the only reason why prices are going up and down is because of 13 year old players trying to "protect their investments", creating the very problems they are trying to fix.

  16. I dropped my loyalty rate a year or so ago. I just resub whenever I have that occasional bout of interest (such as when Dungeoneering came out). Jagex's terrible game design ensures that I dont stay subbed for long though, so bless their hearts  ("You must click that tree for 50 hours before you can access that quest!")
  17. EA and activision aren't exactly known for stellar mmo's. or even online games for that matter. still waiting for someone to muster up the balls to tell of Blizzard Uhm... EA = The Old Republic Activision = World of Warcraft just because blizzard is a part of activision doesn't mean activision influences them. blizzard does their own developing and publishing for their games. ' http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=16458 Just thought you would like to know. I was gonna tear him up for being an ignorant kid, but you beat me. Shucks :(

  19. Are you insulting everyones intelligence by making that "point"? By your logic, woodcutting should be called "Chopping-a-tree-with-your-axe". You've never heard of names or titles?
  20. Ya, I definitely agree with that as well. I'd rather have more skills than just adding more content to the old, boring ones.
  21. I approve of this thread
  22. I agree completely. At this point, I think the core design of Runescape has been locked in. It's always going to be a grinding based game, with click-and-wait combat, with mouse-based controls, buyable content, etc. The updates for Runescape are just going to be added content for the core game (in the form of quests, skills *maybe*, activities, interface updates, graphics updates, etc). The core design enhancements (dynamic combat, interactive storyline, etc) are the type of things that are going to be worked on in Stellar Dawn. Jagex has always stated that MechScape/Stellar Dawn came about because everyone wanted to make a game with the lessons they learned from Runescape. Perfect example: (Note: This is a MechScape interview with the old Head of MechScape, Henrique Olifiers. Some details could be subject to change as Stellar Dawn is a new game)
  23. No one. It was implied. I'm pretty sure there was just an argument about implied writing. Try not to start it again, for everyones sake. And just to add some discussion value, games rarely have one end-game. End-game usually consists of at least 3 pillars (an easy example would be WoW: Raiding, Arena, PvP) No one implicitly stated that there would only be one end-game in Runescape, and Jagex has never said Dungeoneering is the only end-game. They said the distinction between Dungeoneering and the other skills was that Dungeoneering was end-game. There are already 3 pillars of end-game content in Runescape... Activities, Dungeoneering and PvP. Many would argue that certain other areas of the game could count as end-game content, but that's all up to interpretation of course. Something is end-game content as long as its repeatable, dynamic gameplay that is available even for maxed out players. I would include general skilling as end-game, but most of the skilling in Runescape is flat grinding with no dynamic at all. Therefore it would be meaningless to say that skilling is a viable piece of end-game content.
