  1. A few conflicting views there :P. I think I'll at least try and stay in the correct corner of the triangle for slayer. I was assigned greater demons and was going to buy an off-hand chaotic crossbow to fight them (I already have the main hand version), but I think I'll just use my crystal bow there instead and save the tokens for now. Or would using a chaotic crossbow by itself outdo a crystal bow? Are there ever any instances where using a defender is worthwhile now? They seem a bit pointless in EoC, unless I'm missing something. Now, I've been rushing some of the lower floors in dungeoneering and have a few questions: I noticed I can bind 4 items now (I'm 93 dung). I swear I used to only be able to bind 2... Did Jagex up the bind limit? I currently have a shadow silk hood and primal battleaxe bound. Is the SSH still worth using, and is the primal battleaxe a viable weapon to use still? From what I gather I should maybe look into replacing it with a 2H weapon? Is any primal 2H weapon good, or is there one that stands out in particular? What should I fill my other 2 binds with? Primal platebody and legs? I currently have a celestial surgebox bound in my ammunition slot. From what I gather, they've changed the behaviour of it somewhat and it's not as good as it used to be. Should I hold on to it, or perhaps replace it with something else? So it looks like the bind situation has changed since I last played and you can create different setups and change them on the fly. Is it worth me creating separate bind setups for each class? As ever, I appreciate the help :) EDIT: Oh, are waterfiends still the go to monster for charms?
  2. I'll check it out. I've been using the Polypore Staff today; a clan member recommended using it for now but I expect I'd be better off with a SoL. I noticed today while training slayer that a lot of people were just meleeing monsters that weren't weak to melee, which surprised me a little. ...I was also a little disappointed when I got a whip drop and price checked it - less than 100k! :P
  3. Thanks both, very helpful! That's great, makes sense. Is chaotic staff a good choice to use now then? Are there any decent alternatives to use in the interim while I save the tokens for one? Wow, protect prayers are 50% now? Good to know - I'm sure I would have been quite confused by this in the near future if you hadn't told me!
  4. I'm trying to get back into RuneScape casually after taking quite a long break from the game, but I'm finding all the EoC changes a little hard to get my head around. It could just be that my searching skills suck, but I'm having trouble finding any resources that tell me how everything's changed in a way that makes sense to me. Soo... I have a few specific questions: My current slayer task is steel dragons. Prior to EoC I'd stab them with a rapier, but as I understand it, they're weak to magic now. I'm accustomed to solely sticking with melee for slayer; how viable is this now? For example, roughly how much slower would fighting steel dragons with melee be compared to fighting with mage? For the record all of my combat skills are 90+ Following on from that, I've been told that steel dragons are weak to water spells specifically. How much of a difference does the type of attack for the class you use make? Again using steel dragons as an example, how much weaker would an air spell be compared to using a water spell? And again following on from that, does the same carry across to melee and ranged? How much weaker is slash compared to using stab against a monster weak to stab? If the difference is quite noticeable, am I really going to have to get a CLS, offhand CLS, and chaotic maul (all I have is a rapier at the minute, which prior to EoC did the job fine)? That sucks if that's the case... Out of curiosity, is there any mage armour that offers a decent prayer bonus? Like a robed equivalent of the proselyte armour? I wouldn't mind doing some dungeoneering here and there, but I worry I'll just slow the team down and annoy everyone. I've been soloing the lower floors to try and get some experience in the combat system, but I was wondering if most people plow through with melee like before, or is the combat triangle combat enforced enough that people have to tediously change class constantly? Can I get away with using momentum most places? I'm assuming for bosses it's handy to have a specific setup for killing each one, but apart from that are there any other instances where I'd want to actually actively use my abilities rather than letting momentum do the work? I think that's all for now. I'm sorry the questions are a bit random, it's just what's going through my head at the minute! And I'm sorry if there's some obvious location where all of these questions are answered - please point me to it if that's the case.
  5. Thanks! So first priority for me is enough gunpowder to get a level 3 shipyard. That makes sense.
  6. I'm new to PoP and I'm at day 3 or 4 of doing it now, I forget. The voyages are really ramping up in difficulty now; I've got 3 normal voyages and 2 special voyages left today and they're all 4/5 anchors. I've failed a few voyages today, too. I feel like I'm struggling to get the gunpowder needed to buy the necessary upgrades/hire crew to keep up. I'm too scared to send voyages with less than 75% change of success as I don't want to lose decent crew members or have to pay to fix my ship. ...Am I doing something wrong, or is this sort of standard? Should I expect to not be able to do a fair portion of each day's voyages? Any pointers for a newbie?
  7. Out of curiosity, what negative long-term effects do you feel GWD had on the game? The only problem I am aware of was AGS rushing in PvP, but I don't PvP so there could be plenty more. I'm not sure how I feel regarding introducing GWD to the game. It's not something I'm eager to have put in ASAP, but if it cropped up in a vote I think I'd vote yes.
  8. I personally feel the 100 total levels requirement to vote is a little low. It would be nice in the future if they adjusted it somehow to ensure only those who are actively playing the game have a say in the future of the it. A vocal few seem to be of the opinion that the Old School servers are meant to be an exact copy of the game at the time and that any changes are wrong. Jagex have clearly stated numerous times that the game is a community driven project and ultimately it's up to us what direction the game goes in. There's a change or two that I'm not a fan of above the 75% mark, but that's what the masses have decided, so I'll live with it.
  9. www.gamehosting.co.uk They offer VPS's, but also FTP hosting which I use which is 8 slots with 1GB RAM and shared CPU/HDD (you get 1 core of a xeon, don't recall which model, and ~10GB RAM) for 6 quid a month, 60 quid a year depending on subscription. Really nice deal, nice and quick. Customer service is also ace, so if you have any questions their guy replies within like a day. I'll check them out. Thanks :).
  10. Does anyone know of any good UK hosts that offer SSH & FTP access? Access to a preview server would be nice too. I'm currently hosting a server off my VPS, but the ping on it's terrible: ~200-300ms at the best of times, plus a lot of jutter and slow spikes.
  11. Do tell the path that lead you to this conclusion, because everything Jagex has said so far is that Runescape is incompatible with microtransactions. It wasn't a serious statement. To tell you the truth, I wouldn't be shocked if they started selling cosmetic items though. I wouldn't have a problem with that in itself - but I wouldn't be a fan of having that on top of a subscription model; in my eyes only one's appropriate for a game. Having both screams at me that they just want their players' money, even if that is far from the truth.
  12. With the way things are going? Probably in-game items you can buy with JCoins.
  13. Ah ok, thanks :). I completed the quest earlier and really enjoyed it. It's a shame the lag issue ruined it a little for me.
  14. How long has the Desert Stryke area not had a desert effect to it (not requiring waterskins)?
  15. Fairly decent month. Most of the the gameplay videos shown during RuneFest had the new interface used in them and it looks really nice, so I'm actually quite looking forward to that. I'm not normally that bothered about quests, but it's nice that this one will be fully voiced. Perhaps they'll start doing that for all future quests at some point? Another Slayer dungeon never hurts, too.
  16. An absolutely amazing man; what a tragic loss his death is. Take solace in knowing he's no longer in any pain.
  17. EA are [bleep]ing useless. The menus are still as slow as ever and they still freeze. Why are they so reliant on the unresponsive EA servers? Honestly, it's a joke...
  18. I would too, are you referring to something like nProtect GameGuard? Yes! I think so, anyway... Those who would be against it have something to hide.. There's no way I'd let Jagex force me to run anything like that, and I have nothing to hide.
  19. That was a fun quest. Such a shame we won't have a continuation to the storyline for another ~2 years.
  20. Yeah well -- I am not going to let you guys get me too excited over the possibilities, this time around -- I'm none too keen for a big let down ... again. I love how you think being pessimistic makes you better than us He never stated he was better than you or anyone else. He doesn't want everyone elses excitement to get himself too excited as well because if Jagex doesn't pull through on this quest in a way he personally hopes that the letdown will have a much more negative effect on his overall feeling for the update. TROLLER BE TROLLIN! (she)
  21. I'm really liking 1.8 so far. It's pretty laggy on my laptop annoyingly, but hopefully performance will be better when the update's properly released. I've really been enjoying exploring the abandoned mines; they're often connected to ravines and dungeons which makes them massive. I've lost count of the amount of times I've got myself lost exploring them, but I always seem to find my way back with an inventory full of goodies. My only gripe is that in the first world I generated, I spawned in the middle of an ocean biome! I spent about 10 minutes trying to find my way to land and gave up in the end!
  22. Here's a few of mine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vISFZzfseA (I love 1:18 - 1:46) I think this one's obligatory. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6YMf4x16eY Absolutely beatiful the entire way though. So relaxing. Not normally my sort of music, but a great song. I could post loads more :)
