Christians: Why do you go to mass?
Only recently has my school officially become secular, it was founded with the Church of England as it's primary religion. So i've always had to go to Christian religious assemblies once a week. I actually quite like the idea of coming together for quiet reflection, bad hymn singing and (usually pertinent) thoughts from whoever's taking the assembly. Of course outwardly, everyone hates it, but I bet there are more people like me who just like the enforced quiet reflection once a week. There's so much pressure to always be doing something, to always be filling your life with something that having to sit and listen and think for half an hour without the sense that you should be doing something else is really quiet nice. I can imagine that's why a lot of people go, it forces them to make time to reflect.

Ouija Boards
Just one of those cultish things that's caught on through exposure in films. There have probably been thousands of similar traditional "spirit summoning" devices from hundreds and thousands of cults/religions throughout history, with all of them claiming to do pretty much the same thing. Humankind's certainty that the laws of nature will be suspended on their behalf for slightly drunken late night parties never ceases to amaze me.

2012: The Year the Internet Ends
Bingo, basic economics. And if the companies conspired together to try and bring in the system across the board they'd be cut down by competition laws. The companies might like to, but they can't.

the rant forum
A rant about the rants forum, very postmodern. Anyway this forum is for game-related rants so i'll have to lock it. If you have any constructive criticism or feedback, please feel free to post it in the Forums Suggestions forum.

Thinking About You - Radiohead Christ, it's really beautiful.

the best guitarists ever?
I never really got why Hendrix was consistently rated so highly until recently. But damn, that guy was good. Not just his skill, which has probably been surpassed by modern guitarists, but his pioneering and "feel" (which is very subjective I know). I'd also stick Jack White up there for minimilism that might sound easy to mimick, but is in fact damn hard. That guy brings a raw energy to his live guitar playing that I haven't seen anywhere else, he makes it look effortless. Gilmour's written some very impressive stuff, and Eddie Hazel, just for making the most face melting solo you'll ever hear. Clapton for the blues. I suppose I tend to go for quality over quantity of notes.

Subconcsious: Actions of Attraction.
Haha, yes, an unfortunate typo. I swear that's not how my dates usually end up.

When do you cry?
Actual running tears is rare for me, which is probably more to do with my physiology than any kind of machoness, there are plenty of occasions when I feel a "welling up" inside. Listening to certain pieces of music and thinking about loved ones i've lost can do it, and some stories I read in the paper (child abuse, tragic murders etc.) make me choke up a bit. A couple of years ago I went to Normandy and we went around quite a few of the war cemetries, they're pretty moving experiences.

Parental Controls, are you cursed by them?
Nope, no chance my folks would be able to figure out how to put them on even if they wanted to. I've had pretty much free reign since I started using it when I was about 11-12, but I think my parents have trusted me enough not to really worry.

The Offical TIF American Elections thread
As time goes on, I increasingly can't abide John McCain. Screw Obama's lack of experience, I'd vote on policies in this election. Not because I particularly love Obama's, I just detest McCain's.

Are you neurotic?
I'm terrible for cracking joints, mostly knuckles and my ankles when I flex my foot backwards. The worst feeling is when you know you need to, but are in somewhat polite company and know you probably shouldn't. I'm very neurotic about my iTunes library, every song title must have every word capitalised correctly and the album artwork must be perfect. When I go on holiday and can't change the titles it can drive me mad.

Subconcsious: Actions of Attraction.
I've heard that mirroring is a sign that someone likes you. I.e. if you're both sat near each other and you cross your leg, or slouch, the other person will subconsciously mirror your position/action, although not immediately. I've watched out for it in girls that I suspect of liking me (not a particularly large sample base, granted), and it's actually usually noticeable.

The USA didn't even qualify for the final because of that baton drop.

GCSE Results Thread, 21st Aug
Astronomy? Does your school do Ancient Runes and Muggle Studies while you're at it? Hah, nah, it was just an extra that's offered by a retired physics teacher. Two lunchtimes a week and to be honest the lessons were so much fun it hardly felt like work. It's a good GCSE actually, more rigorous than the current science GCSE's. My school actually offers Ancient Greek come to think of it, which I tried, but i'm rubbish at languages and didn't enjoy the lessons so I dropped it.

I got an A* in my Astronomy so i'm pleased with that. I did my other GCSE's last year, this was just an extra I did for interest's sake.

What's Your Ringtone?
It used to be Layla by Derek and the Dominos, but I couldn't hear it very clearly until Clapton's guitar kicked in, so now it's just a standard ring. It's normally just on vibrate though, I don't like ringing phones.

Nirvana or Pearl Jam
Ah yes I see what you mean now, it's just not what i'd call talent, but I would agree.

Why would you vote Obama or MCcain
McCain has some qualities that I admire, but i'm far closer to Obama ideologically than anyone else. Of course he isn't perfect, but no candidate ever is and you just have to weigh up the good and the bad that comes with each and make a rational decision based off that.

Nirvana or Pearl Jam
I'd contend that Nirvana's Unplugged album shows their (perhaps only just blossoming) superior musical qualities. I've always had more of a thing for Nirvana, i'll always remember the first time I heard Smells Like Teen Spirit and the way it made me feel.
