  2. Reads like poetry, simply beautiful. [hide=Lover, You Should've Come Over - Jeff Buckley]Looking out the door I see the rain fall upon the funeral mourners Parading in a wake of sad relations As their shoes fill up with water Maybe I'm too young To keep good love from going wrong But tonight, you're on my mind so You never know Broken down and hungry for your love With no way to feed it Where are you tonight? Child, you know how much I need it. Too young to hold on And too old to just break free and run Sometimes a man gets carried away, When he feels like he should be having his fun Much too blind to see the damage he's done Sometimes a man must awake to find that, really, He has no-one... So I'll wait for you... And I'll burn Will I ever see your sweet return? Oh, will I ever learn? Oh, Lover, you should've come over Cause it's not too late. Lonely is the room the bed is made The open window lets the rain in Burning in the corner is the only one Who dreams he had you with him My body turns and yearns for a sleep That won't ever come It's never over, My kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder It's never over, all my riches for her smiles when I slept so soft against her... It's never over, All my blood for the sweetness of her laughter... It's never over, She's a tear that hangs inside my soul forever... But maybe I'm just too young to keep good love From going wrong Oh... lover you should've come over... Yes, and I feel too young to hold on I'm much too old to break free and run Too deaf, dumb, and blind To see the damage I've done Sweet lover, you should've come over Oh, love, well I'll wait for you Lover, you should've come over 'Cause it's not too late.[/hide]

My parents both work in the legal profession, so I think they're exempt, but according to them it can be mind-numbingly boring. A 2 day trial isn't bad, I always think it'd be terrible to be called up for a trial that lasts for multiple weeks. Can you share any details of the case? Just general stuff.
  5. As others have said, eat, a lot. You need to eat lots of smaller meals rather than just three large ones per day to keep your metabolism ticking over. Like me, you have a very fast metabolism which means you can eat a lot and still not put on much weight, so you need to couple the extra eating with muscle building weight training. Lift heavy weights for low repetitions for mass building. The hypertrophy in your muscles will force the extra food you're eating to be used in muscle building, and since you're tearing down the muscle fibres they'll grow back stronger, i.e. heavier. I mean, don't worry about it too much. I'm sure you'll fill out when you're older but for now just eat a lot (healthy stuff) and workout. Don't focus too much on cardio because you'll end up burning too many calories but do a bit now and again so you have a healthy heart.

  7. Not at this stage in the UCAS process, unless he was one of the incredible few who got two offers. Only 10% of applicants get one offer, let alone two. It's not official, proved or confirmed, but there's a strong suspicion the universities rig it so they evenly share candidates anyway, since the course content is controlled almost completely by the GMC so there's no real difference between each university's content. I sincerely doubt he'll have a back-up, and the official guidelines are to reject anyone with a criminal record. Unless there is a change in legislation to remove minor offences from criminal records, or someone breaks those guidelines, I can't see this guy getting into Medical School. He could go to Cuba I guess... there's an option. Ah. I'm not applying for medicine so I didn't know the system but I thought you could receive more than one offer and put through two offers (a firm and a backup) so he'd just go to his backup. My mistake.

  9. It's all very good saying "let's be tough on young people", but it ignores the wider picture. In this country we have a shortage of doctors and especially dentists. For all we know, this kid had the potential to become a dentist, serving the type of deprived community he comes from. As far as i'm aware though, medicine is still massively competitive, Imperial especially, so it's not like turning him down means one less doctor in the world. I haven't read any of the articles, but surely he'll get into another medical school anyway?
  10. Imperial College is such a competitive univeristy that there were probably several people like him, who'd worked identically hard and got identically good grades. There was probably very little to differentiate between him and other applicants, so when he declared his criminal offence suddenly there was a mark against him and he slipped below the rest. Is it fair? Probably not, but Imperial is such a respected university that they have every right to be as selective as they wish, especially for medicine. I'm not particularly surprised by their actions.

  13. You need to qualify your premise that children need a traditional mother figure and a traditional father figure to be brought up, when there is a lot of (i'm sure largely anecdotal) evidence against that claim.

  16. Yes, the kid was stupid, but all this crap about it now improving our gene pool sounds horribly elitist, even if it said in jest.

  22. Given that the other thread is just a discussion about favourite books and this is more the relative importance compared to films, I think this okay to stay open here. Personally, I'd always say books were a greater invention and gift to society than films. FIlms entertain and can educate, but books are incredibly powerful tools for education, for inspiration and for entertainment.
