General Relativity
General relativity is the modification of special relativity to include gravity. In layman's terms, all it basically says is that matter warps/bends the fabric of spacetime, which explains gravitation. The theory also predicts that light is bent or slightly slowed near an object of mass. Time is also slower near objects of larger. The abstract isn't too hard to grasp for either theory, special relativity deals with the constancy of the speed of light and the relative nature of observations. The maths involved in both is pretty damn complicated though, and I wouldn't pretend to know the first thing about it really. Working out time dilation isn't too tricky but after that you get into tensor calculus and all that kind of thing, which is beyond me.

NEW iPODS RELEASED TODAY 9/5
I'll pretty much always listen to a complete album. It might be a single song that leads me to buy the album, but half the fun is listening to the other stuff on the album. I've got a friend who only has all the top singles of the bands on his iPod, and for me that would soon get very boring. I have eclectic and broad tastes, have a wide range of songs per artist is far better than having their few "best", especially when after a little delving you can uncover some better songs.

Duel Arena Guide
It's a nice guide, but it doesn't exactly contain any information that couldn't easily be found anywhere else. I don't really think it warrants its own discussion thread. Locked.

Grading Religion
That's what I did, and I don't see what the problem is with it. You're marked to a small extent on having your own opinion, justifying that opinion and showing that there is an alternative. But the examiner can't be biased in terms of which opinion is best. As with any exam, as long as your opinion is justified it gets the marked. And with the higher end exams (i'm thinking Oxbridge entrance exams) the more controversial opinions will often get the higher marks, you need to make your paper stand out.

Nick Cave & the bad seeds
I went out and bought Abbatoir Blues on your recommendation, and loved it. I'd never heard of the guy before then but now I see his name cropping up everywhere a bit. Which punk styled albums could you recommend?

NEW iPODS RELEASED TODAY 9/5
For everyone grumbling about how there are better MP3 players out there, for me i'd buy the iPod for the reasons Merc said (I genuinely believe that it feels like a top of the range quality product, and am very happy and proud of owning one) as well as the fact that I have 41GB of music, and not many other MP3s out there can support that kind of library (my current iPod included). It's a faff to have to cycle through what's on your iPod.

favorite underground band?
Underground? I'll just substitute it with "fairly obscure". In which case my vote would go to the epic natural sounds of The Wimhurst's Machine, or maybe the angsty yet cleverly titled songs of Have Fun Dying.

So, if you were lazy enough would you do this?
Now and again I have to walk home from school. It's not far, about a 35 minute walk, but it's a dead straight boring road with lots of cars going past very fast, and it's mostly uphill. At times when I've got a sports bag, heavy school bag and other stuff one of those would be very tempting. Other than that, no, no way.

NEW iPODS RELEASED TODAY 9/5
My god, 160GB of storage. That is really quite phenomenal. I'm not an Apple fanboy but that is seriously impressive. The new touch-screen iPod is a waste of money but 160GB for the same price as the old 80GB? Wow, just wow.

School schedule and class discussion for 2007-08!
It's my second year of 6th form this year. Last year I took the bold 3 along with Geography but dropped maths halfway through the year through being behind, lazyness and a lack of intelligence. Be prepared for alot of work in that (I wasnt). I found physics to be relatively easy, especially the first module (if your on AQA). Economics is also not too hard although my school seems intent on picking out the most boring exam board but still very interesting at times. As for my schedule, I think it will be a gruelling 12 hours a week of lessons to attend. : No idea why but we do 5 hours per week per subject at AS but only 4 at A level. I'm guessing that we will have more work to do outside lessons and be expected to revise more. I've got to go in tomorrow to confirm my options and then I start properly on Thursday. :) Not sure what exam board we use for each, hopefully a good one. Just got my timetable today, i've got one free every two week cycle :XD: Triple maths on somedays.

A physics question.
Depends which theorem you look at, so i'll explain the one that I know best about. Stephen Hawking worked on what's called a no-boundary theorem for the Universe. He basically said that the Universe is a bit like the surface of the Earth, except three-dimensional. The singularity is represented at the north pole, so it's meaningless to ask what's north of the north pole, just like it's meaningless to talk about a time before the big bang. He developed this using imaginary time, which is a bit like imaginary numbers. The beauty of this is it gets rid of the Big Bang singularity whilst still containing the concept of time to our Universe. But if there was a singularity, time would still "stop" because of the immense gravitational force. I suppose time could have different properties in different Universes, but since time as a variant is really only dependent on gravitational field strength it's more likely to be dependent on that. That's my best guess anyway.

What are you listening to right now!?
Anytime man, i'm just glad that you like him. That dirty sound is what got me hooked on him at first, I love that kind of stuff. As one rewiew put it: "Blues so dirty you've got to go wash your hands afterwards" :P Hard to say what's the best way to get into them. The compilation album I bought is called The Story So Far, it's a pretty eclectic selection as compilation albums go, but obviously it's good because it's them. I think with punk bands their first album is the best way to dive in, their's is Inflammable Material and it's a cracker, as are the next few albums. Just avoid Tinderbox. :P Now listening to I Want You So Hard (The Boy's Bad News) - The Eagles of Death Metal If the Arcade Fire hadn't been so damned good these guys would have been my favourite band that day, you could tell it was probably the biggest gig they'd played and they really gave it their all.

Is it really a problem? (MP3 piracy)
It's true that a good 20-30 or so of my albums that i've bought I would simply not have if I hadn't been able to discover that music through downloading. And the proof? A potential source

Christianity... [[Debate]]
We've got way too many religion/belief based topics flying around at the moment. If you really want stick this onto one of the current ones. Aside from that, I don't think all the flaming that normally ensues is doing this forum any good. Reasoned debate, fine, but it's not always that. Locked.
