  1. Sorry, but polls are disabled for a reason. Locked.
  2. This seems like it should belong in M&M. The RIAA are getting ridiculous, they're killing the appeal of their own industry. Technology like the internet is supposed to push music away from just buying CD's to a format that people can share and enjoy together, with less of an emphasis on money and more on the music.
  3. The Ocean - Led Zeppelin Mediocre
  4. If you see the evolution from fictional intent to non-fictional intent as something that is okay, then that's your opinion. However, all evidence suggests that Christianity, and most other modern day religions, were established first as non-fiction, and didn't evolve in such a manner - and that's the point being discussed. You can't compare the attributes of two belief systems when they were originally established for entirely different purposes. They are fundamentally different. The mere evolution from not believing to believing in what you yourself have said is an enormous enough difference to make the belief systems incomparable in most senses. Fair enough. I won't fire up the debate about the validity of scripture here because I don't think it's necessary.
  5. It wasn't originally established as non-fiction. Even more so, Hubbard created the ideas completely secular at first, and later on decided it was a religion. It wasn't even "defined" as a religion by his own words until he realized he could make money off of it. The original intent is clearly very different. So the scientology of today is defined as non-fiction where in the past it was purely fiction. Where's the problem though? Surely all religions and cults evolve. I can't think of any examples but it's perfectly possible for the original intent of a cult to be fictitious but it then evolves into non-ficton and possibly has the same kind of reasoning behind the validity of its beliefs as a religion.
  6. Forgive me because I might be arguing from ignorance here; but despite scientology being established by a science fiction writer, wasn't it established as non-fiction? The author defined it as a religion himself.
  7. Nope, never. I've had some pretty neutral fights in the past when we've both taken it fairly equally, but since i've grown up i've never gotten into a fight which I know I can't win.

Depends which university you're looking at as to whether or not GCSE's matter.
  9. Ah, another Hot Chip fan? Yeah, awesome music for pretty much anything, whether you're alone in your room, or with friends, when you're driving somewhere or when you're at a party. Yeah totally. It's just chilled out enough to be background music for socialising, but turn it up a bit and it's perfect to give a proper listen to. Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Parts I-V - Pink Floyd That opening guitar note sends shivers down my spine every time.
  10. It's amazing how easily you can see coincidences when you're looking for them even when they're not there, but y Most of the numbers weren't actually 64, just some derivative. Otherwise, this topic is spam, locked.
  11. I have a similar outlook on life. I have an absolute thirst for knowledge, which means I spend a lof of my team trying to learn as much as I can about things, especially fundamental things. I do like a challenge, say, maths wise. But, if I can't solve it, it can get frustrating. But I relish anything that makes me think. Physically, I always try to push myself to go faster, harder, longer. Even with silly things, like riding home from school i'll go flat out up the hills to challenge myself, but arrive home panting and sweating but with a big smile on my face.

  13. Ignoring the studies that have shown moderate alchohol consumption can actually be good for you, I still think you're missing the point. We (I know I don't speak for everyone here) don't go out on a Saturday night with friends with the sole intention of getting hammered, spending some money and waking up with a throbbing head. And we don't do it because we think it's good for us either, I'm personally under no illusions that alcohol is a type of poison, but life's too short for that kind of attitude. We go out with friends to drink because it's fun, it's a laugh, it makes a change from the daily grind. You can talk all you want about how you can have fun without alcohol, and it's not that we can't, it's just that sometimes it's nice to "lose yourself" a little, and step out of your sober, comfort zone. Oh yeah, because everyone who drinks ends up like that. Open your eyes, don't be so narrowminded.
  14. Carpe Diem's alright, but it's hard to stick to a single motto throughout your life.
  15. (And I Was) A Boy From School - Hot Chip Great album.
  16. Eh? Where did you get that from. There's actually quite a stereotype at my school that a lot of the South East or Eastern Asians are all super smart.
  17. I've never played WoW, but on LOTR at the moment there seems to be a general consensus that LOTR's community is far better.

Yeah, they're pretty easy but when you're expected to get 10 A*'s there's a bit of pressure :(

General Certificate of Secondary Education Yeah, it's that time for me too. Can't say i'm really worried about any of them, but I definitely don't like this constant nagging feeling that I always could be doing some more revision. :( First exam is mathematics and RS on thursday. Maths should be a breeze (famous last words ay?) but RS might be tricky. Roll on 15th June (last exam)...
  20. Deliverance put me off for life, "squeal like a pig!" :uhh:
  21. That's the one I'm on about. It's this southern/londonish area. Truly horrible. Of course, it's exaggarated on that show, but not a lot :P Yeah, I hate that one as well. Not a fan of a redneck accent either, but living in england that's not so much a problem for me.
  22. Yeah, I play this and love it. Played the beta and really enjoyed, decided to get the pre-order version and started that. I'm a lvl 24 hunter on Snowbourn, Ozymandias if you want to look me up. :)
  23. Nice explanation of the possibilities for abiogenesis, clarified it in my mind when you broke it down like that :) This is going off evolution a bit, i'm no biologist, I know what I have to know for GCSE and the bit more for rebutting creationists, but you mentioned earlier the possible origins of the Big Bang. This is definitely an interest of mine, obviously no one knows for certain at the moment but here's an interesting article I read which relegates the necessity of a "cause". http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/ ... aused.html Make of what you will.
  24. You Know You're Right - Nirvana
  25. Further to that, Schumann was another good romantic composer for piano pieces. And if you're feeling adventorous, Liszt.
