The Archaeology Skill - (Surprise on Page 26!)
Outsanity replied to Outsanity's topic in RuneScape Suggestions
Runescape is NOT set in a specific time period. You should know that. And of COURSE they had it in ages like the medieval ages, if that's what you're asking. You think that history just started in the last 100 years? History to us is everything before our time. But history to the medieval times is anything that happened before those times. Just because Medieval times are historical to us doesn't mean they were when they were actually happening. So yes...Archaeology was around, and I feel really sorry for you if you really thought it wasn't. -

Added Archaeological Dangers to the guide to add more risk to the skill and give it more variety. -

If it's the main digsites you're talking about, then yes, I agree full-heartedly. I actually had someone bring that up to me a few months ago and was meaning to add a few "area-specific" main digsite items, but never got around to it. So yes, thanks for bringing that back to my attention. -

For the notes, you're thinking far too logically. If I can eat an entire shark in one bite or earn noted items from monsters such as waterfiends, which would never be able to hold notes since they are made of water and would drench them, making them unuseable, I think we can have notes be a loot from a rock sample. Also, get the idea OUT of your head that this is just ancient artifacts you are digging up. In main digsites, none of the items are ancient except MAYBE the ancient bones. Everything else is current. I wasn't aiming for every item to be part of "historical" times. So if that what you were thinking then you need to rethink it. Someone could have just dropped an item and over a period of a few months that item was covered with mud, sand and dirt. And then you, the archaeological digger you are, come and find it. It's THAT simple. Yes, some of the items found in the Private Digsites are a little older, but that was the purpose I made the Private Digsites for in the first place. As to your second note, I really URGE you to re-read the guide. Items are VERY specific to areas they are found in. Crystal Seeds found in lletya, Dragon 2h Swords found in the KQ SES, Talismans/Runes/Essence found in the Lunar Island mines. And let's think about the fact that EVERY piece of an item found at a Private digsite correctly corresponds to the item found in it. I'm sorry if you missed that, but it's an intregal part of the guide already, and therefore does not need to be implemented, as that would be redundant. -

Ok, guys, I appreciate the feedback. Yes, it's important. But the past page and a half has been the same two people discussing what the skill needs and doesn't need and that is NOT what I asked for when I made this. I think we all need to remember that this is Outsanity's original recipe with suggestions for improvements from readers and fellow Runescape, but this is not a collaboration of any sort. Therefore, as I said before, I appreciate the feedback, but it's useless for you to sit here and argue back and forth about things to improve because ultimately I still decide what goes into this and what doesn't. I mean, if you want to keep discussing it, go ahead, but just know I don't put every suggestion into action, and about 90% of what you've suggested isn't going to work in my eyes. But I am glad to see such enthusiasm on the topic. The fact you can be passionate about it makes me feel I've done what I was aiming to do when writing this. So thank you for that. :) -

The d2h is an extremely rare find. Probably only 1 in 100 Giant Rock Samples from the KQ would earn you one, and you probably will only get 1 giant rock sample at level 99 from the KQ SES out of maybe 100 of them. So that's on in 1,000 chance, which is plenty rare enough. The D2h isn't worth that much anymore. I BEG of you. Spell and use correct punctuation. I refuse to even touch base on any of your suggestions until it is easier to read them first. Though I will say, 76 Slayer is NOT a high requirement. Do you know over 50,000 people currently have 76 Slayer? That is a LOT of people collecting Ancient Brushes and trowels. They will be easy to get ahold of for all players. Trust me. I'd like to point out that the rewards are not high at ALL. Look at the rewards from implings and look at these. Not much of a difference, and actually, you have a chance of earning 2m in dragon arrowtips from a dragon impling, and that only requires a lousy 83 hunter. The d2h requires 93 Archaeology. I don't mean to soung rude, but I did WAY more research than you did, and it seems I've played and experienced a bit more of the game than you have. I know what's reasonable and what's not, and my idea is not overpowered in the slightest. As to Danno385, the reason it's higher to clean than it is to excavate is so it is harder to level and also so that you need to wait a bit longer to reap the best rewards. It is a way to keep the skill from being too overpowered, and you should not look at this in the same way you do fishing/cooking. I didn't model this after those skills and neither should you. Again, I will say, I know a bit more about what Jagex would call balanced, and the differed levels help to balance the skill difficulty with profit. And I will argue with you no further on the subject. -
Nope. Not viable or profitable at all. You should never go there or even think of going there ever again. ... ;) P.S. It IS + 10 Mining Levels. Go look in the manual.
-
This is not new. This has been out since Smoking Kills was released. You can get the same tasks multiple times in a row. I have recieved 4 dark beast tasks in a row. It is possible.

1. The problem is that there is NO reason to be wasting a skill on cleaning when you can incorporate it into one skill and call it Archaeology. That would be so ridiculous. People would just buy Rock Samples and clean them for profit. How dumb would that be? It'd be the same as if Jagex gave you exp for opening an impling jar. We don't need another buyable skill. 2. Um, it uses higher levels to clean than excavate. That is in the guide. I guess you missed that part of it? 3. And what do you call mining? Fishing? Woodcutting? Essentially, they are the same. You chop a tree or pick away at a rock and get something with value. Same thing, really, only the valuable can differ. I'm not trying to say you don't have your opinion and thoughts on the matter, but I am saying that your suggestion is actually really unnecessary and doesn't have enough reason to back it up. -

So what you're saying is that because I have dedicated time to researching and perfecting this that it cannot be made into a skill? I guess if you want second rate, useless skills like hunter again then go right ahead and turn this down. And that makes no sense at all. Mining is the actual extracting of ore from rocks and smithing is smelting down and forging those ore into armor and weapons. The word Archaeology is a broad word that encompasses the entire process of what the skill involves. If we did what you just suggested we'd have to have an "Excavation" skill and a "Cleaning," skill. How LAME would a skill totally devoted to cleaning be? Sorry, but while I appreciate feedback, I think it would be best for you to really think about what you're suggesting first. If I can do my homework then so can you. -

Thanks. Yeah...total I would say it took around 30 hours to perfect. The main bulk of the idea making process was the longest part, but I also did a lot of research on real life archaeology and how I could incorporate some of those things into this. And then of course I had to spell check, add images and code the whole thing to organize it. Not easy stuff, but it's totally worth it. -

Grrr....Accidentally quoted my first post instead of editing it. Ah well. Tweaked some of the Kalphite Queen SES and KBD SES rewards to be more current with prices. -
You're an idiot. Gambling has been around since the beginning of time. It is in human instinct. If you obviously think it wasn't around in medieval times then you're obviously very uneducated. Also, Runescape is not set in Medieval times. There's just a lot of material that resembles that time. But I can point out many things within the game that aren't medieval at all, and are actually quite modern. So quit trying to sound intelligent. It just proves how little you actually know.

Finally added the Private Digsite section to the guide! This is an enormous section which deals with setting up a private camp spot (working much like farming does) to dig up pieces of rare skill items that can be turned into the Artifact Exchange Industry for the full item! Read more by click on the private digsite section of the guide on the first post. Also added a few more images to the guide, noteably being the Archaeology skill logo to indicate what Archaeology level you need to do certain things. My next big project is to add more risk to the skill. I have already started working on this idea, and it shouldn't take nearly as long as it did to release the Private Digistes. Keep the support coming. EDIT - Updated the Supporter list. 231 Supporters! (Though technically before the forums died we had about 280.) -

Yeah, you didn't read the guide. Thanks for being an igornant poster. P.S. I'd expect more respect out of a player who has 16M exp in Runecrafting and almost 2,200 total levels. Though I know you didn't read the guide at all, and obviously don't realize the skill is more than just digging up bones, even if I were to humor that logic, I could say that repetitively running essence to an altar and making runes is just as boring and useless. Basically what I'm saying is be educated and read before you post. -

I think you should time out how long takes to get to godwars and use one inventory of bones, and then time out how long it takes to teleport to your house 3 times and use 3 inventory of bones. Plus, this basically cuts down the cost of 99 Prayer by more than 50-75%. I think that in itself is worth the level. However, as for the spa thing, I made this guide WAY before that quest, so at the time this would have been the best pray bonus in the game. I am going to adjust this aspect of it. -

Very good suggestion. I'm glad you brought this point up, because, actually, I am currently devising some ways to add more risk to the skill and a bit more uncertainty to it by adding things like "Rival Archaeologists," which hopefully I will add into the guide soon. Thanks for your support. :) -

Finally the images to the guide have been re-uploaded and are working as they should. You may now put the signatures back up for advertisment if you please. There are a few things that have been lost since the death of the original forums, which I will be working on recovering when I can. They include: -Images of Trowels and Brushes -Images of Rock Samples and Fossils -The entire section on the new quest "Ancient Tablet" that would be required to start this skill. I am also working on tweaking some things and adding a new "Private Digsite" section. I just have to work out some things that may currently be too overpowered. Also expect to see a Level 99 Archaeology ability soon. :D -
Finding the ratio of summoning to slayer exp: You can help!
Outsanity replied to Myweponsg00d's topic in General Discussion
I can tell you from personal experience it is this: You get 3/4 the Slayer exp that you do Summoning exp. I have gone from 91-94 (trying to close in on 95) Slayer while collecting the charms I get as drops, and overall, I have gotten about a quarter more summoning exp than slayer. Now, obviously you can't fully measure this since it differs from task to task, but that's my personal imput. -

Since the forums got destroyed, so did my thread and its coding. I am now trying to repair the thread to it's old glory so we can get this idea churning in the minds of the average runescape player again. I will soon be working on re-uploading the images so hopefully they will be working soon. -
That was the most uneducated and ignorant post I've read in a while. And that's all I'm going to say.
-
This is like a month old. Sorry.

I would. It's called a temporary pet. And anyway, yes, it's just you. I haven't noticed a difference, and I've been an avid trainer and user of summoning since it's release.

Why not just make change the name of coins to gold pieces?
Outsanity replied to sohkmj1's topic in General Discussion
Since the dawn of online gaming. Too bad it's not an abbreviation of the word "coins." It's actually an abbreviation of the term "Gold Pieces," which is not close in lettering to the word "coins," at all. I think it needs to be changed, yes. But then again, what does my opinion matter?
