IMO, it would be wise to wait until the release of summoning before buying a rare again. Even if the skill doesn't cost much, the excitement will equal a market slowdown.

It's good that you brought that up. Rubies, emeralds, and sapphires, are all rarer gems than diamonds. Diamonds were just brilliant advertising, in movies and such, as a symbol of marriage. Despite knowing this, guess what I'm going to have to buy when I propose? Thats right, a diamond. "Honey, it's a sapphire, diamonds are more common its just advertising." Wont. go. well. ______________ At any rate. 2-3 years ago, a friend and me when we first got into rares realize that they were entirely manipulation. It's amazing what people used to do, sitting on the forums trying to get a "manipulation movement" going. All it takes is like 10-20 people with strict prices, so long as no one else is selling under them, the price does rise thanks to the manipulation. The GE gets rid of all that. The people posting on the forums everyday like "Selling santa 25m no lower" with a bunch of random smiley faces and people cheering him on, fellow santa owners, obviously. As sad and pathetic as it was, it kept the prices the way they were. Those days are gone, so no one really knows whats going to happen. ______________ IMO the biggest factor in the price of rares is wealth consolidation. Sure, we can pretend its about alchemy, and actual GP in the game, and its obvious that this does play its role(construction changes on rares prices), as do the hundreds of other factors people bring up. However, I think its more about wealth consolidation. Staking, merchanting, autoing, RWT, despite you guys pretending no one did RWT, it helped to consolidate cash. Cash from 3-4 Autoers moving to the account of a player, who could now invest the cash. Slayer was the fastest rise in rares, is it just coincidence that it was a huge money consolidator? Many of the current top skillers, guess how they made all the cash to skill? Did anyone remember n0valyfes runescape log? He literally went from a nobody special, to a 400m bank, in a few months. Whoever was high enough combat to do slayer fast back then, had a great opportunity back then. At any rate, the age of rares is pretty much over. Slayer was the prime time to own a rare, these days, not so much. I hear the mantra of "It's supply and demand, they'll never go down!" I had taken a break from this game since November 2006. Guess what? My masks and santas? They never peaked higher than they did in august 2006, when red masks were 49mil each. At least for the lower rares, phats continued to rise, ignoring the trends of the lower rares. Also people seem to not realize that easter eggs, disks, etc have mostly been stable. Wearables were pretty inflated. If it really were so much supply and demand, why are pumpkins worth less than santas? Pumpkins are far rarer.

Probably should have waited until the summoning release day excitement. But you'll be spending your cash to race to 138 like everyone else. If I actually think about it, 5 mask sets for 58m is complete BS. Someone who had 5 mask sets from the beginning would barely care enough to panic sell. Someone economically savvy enough to acquire 5 mask sets would not be silly enough to under price himself so much. 58m EA. And i have plenty of money left lol. :x

Rares always crash after Halloween, its just being made worse by the GE+Trade changes, which really eliminates manipulation. Summoning will come out, and just compound the problem even worse. I always remember there being more Santas than green masks, Greens crash on Halloween of course, also known as "lets all sell on the same day and pretend that means were going to get alot of money." People quitting is pretty moot on the effect it'll have on rares imo. This crap happens every year, and still people are shocked by it. Second year running these trends have been happening. To figure out the effect on rares of a new skill, figure out if it is a skill that costs money, or a skill that consolidates money. Slayer consolidated cash to no lifers who raced to 85. Construction is a pure money drain. Money consolidation = increase rares price Money drains/sinks = decrease rares price Right now two ways to consolidate money were removed - duel arena and merchanting. Both will have a negative impact. Crackpot theories like "people have quitted and alched dems. so dey gunna raise." Really... what?

I think auto's would have eventually ruined the game. Personally, they ruined my main way of making cash, killing green dragons. It used to be 400-550k/hr before they started killing them at level 67 with dragon daggers. (The fast money/hr is why, too) Basically, all that was left for fast cash were things like 91rc, boss killing, and staking/merchanting. Anything else, and you were pretty much competing with bots. RWL trading was much more prevalent than you all probably think. I had about 10 core friends, and around half of them bought items for irl cash. Eventually, if they became prevalent enough, there would become a barrier to entry so to speak. New players unable to do the things i mention above, all of which require a well established account, would be forced to RWT in order to have any chance to catch up. Jagex stopped it before it got that bad, but that's where it was headed. It's bad for us established players, but in the long term, it probably saved the game. WoW, which everyone likes to cite for letting RWT go rampant, works around this problem by having an expansion about every year. The expansion brings a huge influx of gold into the game basically resetting the economy and gear, it happened once and is due to happen again in 2008. Gear in WoW is more important than levels, really. Not to mention that WoW employs much bigger money sinks. Much of the RWT WoW cash ends up being removed from the economy anyway, rather than going back into the economy like it does in runescape. Not all of the cash, but a large chunk of it is put into money sinks.

With the pouches acting the way that they do, it seems like jagex planned that a glitch like this might happen.

Rune Mining/Smithing No Longer Profitable?

It's the effects of the market restrictions. They're forcing more people to skill for cash. So, the skilling areas get busier. -
KQ was the best Imo. Was the first monster i brought down for lewts, and back when it was worth it, twas good times.

Nostalgia is a waste of time. The memories > how it actually was. Learn2LearnFromHistory.

I agree the filter is completely too restrictive. Simply filtering the actual works themselves and leaving censor evasion there would suffice Imo. When I play other games i joke around using curse words all the time and I find myself getting good laughs sometimes. In runescape i just avoid typing anything in the game at all. Even sentences that aren't offensive will be filtered because of how overwhelming intruding the censor is. I wouldn't miss the filter in the least bit.

Runescape is the biggest regret of my life.
chc05dude replied to ice_ring's topic in General Discussion
It's your own fault for how you spend your time and you have no one to blame but yourself. It's really that simple. If you never did any clubs or other activities it's because you weren't motivated to do them. Nerds existed before computers, so stop pretending your the first person ever to have regretted not being more social in highschool. -
68 ranged lol.

Is there a "true" training method?
chc05dude replied to Central_Keeper's topic in General Discussion
The way I view it. Take the fastest way you know how to make money. Compare it to how much money it costs to powerlevel, versus how much time spent making money, add up the hours. Go with the shortest # of hours/opportunity cost. It's simple. An example: I can make 300k/hr killing green dragons for instance. If I were to smith iron bars one at a time on iron knives, I basically break even at about 12k xp/hr Thats roughly 1,000 hours of smithing, or an opportunity cost of 300million. Smithing iron plates, without selling/alching the plates, will take about 250hours, an opportunity cost of 75million. You'll use about 515,000 bars, at 200ea, or 103million. 103+75 < 300 The obvious solution is to make plates, not knives. It takes less total time if you know ways of making cash at 300k/hr. Which is not terribly hard. All because you smithed them "like your supposed to" doesn't mean your 1,000 hours versus my 593 hours to achieve the same goal, makes you the smarter/better player. P.S. I'm raising range so don't stop smithing iron knives k thx. -
I barely ever PKed, staked or merchanted, but these updates made me quit. I stil dwell in these forums though. The staking update hit me worst though, because then i knew i could never be more than an average joe, earning average wages. The only way i could ever get better than anyoe else would be to play for hours and hours a day, but never actually surpass many people still. All oppurtunities to go from rich to poor or poor to rich are gone. I wil never have a chance of being anywhere near the best, so i quit. THe community is 'clogged', nobody can become (relatively) better than anyone else. Tis not good. I don't pay to be the same as everyone else, i pay to be better. The game isn't a race. One of the things I'm happiest with is the staking update. Many many people abused staking. I still don't fully understand first hit, because no one is really willing to teach you, because the information was valuable. Staking was truly not fun. It's easy to be trapped into staking what you can't afford to lose.

chc05dude replied to Matok's topic in General Discussion
I was getting about 1 pair in 100 kills As of last night, I've been getting 1 pair in 300 kills. Longest streak without a drop is about 475, as of last night. I think it got nerfed. -
