  1. the point i was making was that had smarter people been in control of it, we wouldnt have had those problems. leaving workers with basic engineering degrees in charge is probably not a good idea. once there are more people capable of overseeing operation of a facility, then they could make more plants.
  2. if you like 1984 you will like atlas shrugged. you would probably also like aldous huxley's brave new world. all three are great, great books.

Sideways (2004) 249. Haine, La (1995) 250. ÃÆÃââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ bout de souffle (1960) apperantly i havent seen 126 of them, which means i have seen 124. better than only 105 6 months ago, but i have seen a lot more than just 19. some of the others i have seen must have been bumped off the list. but i still havent seen to many, i just bought manchurian candidate in my last bunch so that will give me an even 125 when i watch it tonight.
  4. i read enders shadow first, and then enders game. they are both really good. the rest of the series from enders perspective and from beans perspective are also all pretty good. joseph heller is really good at black humor. catch 22 was great, and apperantly there is a sequel to it. the only other novel i think he has is "something happened." if you can make it through to the end its pretty good too. dont let the title mislead you, more or less nothing happens until page 562, and its a 567 page book. another good, quite possibly better black humorist is kurt vonnegut. start out with slaughterhouse five and cats cradle, those are his two most known ones. from the nine ive read seven of them are just as good as catch 22.
  5. Nuclear physicists not smart enough for ya sparky? ever hear of chernobyl? have you ever heard of three mile island?
  6. heh, der untergang, spirited away, and lawrence of arabia are 3 of the 5 i havent seen yet  third man was awesome though 8) . you scared me with Spartacus, at first i thought it might have been in the top 50 and i missed it. definently going to buy that one, have to increase my stanely kubrick collection...
  7. i might bump up the "what movies have you seen from the imdb top 250" topic, if i can find it  . i havent seen 6 of them, but i am watching sunset boulevard right now so im only missing 5. just out of curiosity, which ones dont you want to see?
  8. im not a big fan of that list either. nurse ratched number 5, and mr potter number 6? and training day made it on the list? any list that has training day on it and doesnt include "worst" in the title is automatically junk.
  9. atlas shrugged by ayn rand would definently be the best book ive read. i think im going to have to read it again...
  10. nuclear energy would be viable if smarter people were in control of it, so that no melt downs would happen. if im thinking about it right its stable when done properly. solar and wind dont provide as much energy, but have little to no risk factor, and are easily upgradable. might as well go that way, as long as there is a backup power plant for times when its neither windy or sunny (usually when its not sunny its windy, at least during the day, so it would work most of the time.) i guess this is as good as place as any to ask, how much would it cost to buy enough solar and wind equipment to power a house? id like to invest in some solar panels at least right now, i know they are supposed to last a long time so i would have them for when i build my own house. anyone here use renewable resources for electricity?
  11. im pretty sure its another world, did you look it up yet? youll be dissapointed with it, it sucks more than runescape did.
  12. i thought it was funny anyhow
  13. i can handle it once in a while. but anything more than a word or two and it just gets annoying.
  14. i got my firefly boxset for $20 off of amazon. yes, i am in love with the show too :D just checked and its $24, still a nice price for a full season. my desktop this last month was also a firefly desktop: and one of my favorite t shirts (if not my favorite) is also a firefly one: same as my desktop  the blue sun corp are the bad guys in firefly, they never got that far in the series though, and had to ignore it in the movie. but if you look for everything you definently will see lots about the blue sun corp in the series (two by two, hands are blue is just one example) any good firefly fansite will have information about it :D browncoats unite! 8)
  15. you need to upload the pictures to http://www.imageshack.us or similar, we can't view them from your pc. I think he meant to do it like that. It's cj's weird sense of humour :P thats what i thought too :D
  16. i think hes talking about "another world", i think the site is like awplanet.com or something.

    you win this thread :D
  18. just a little side note my teacher told me: wizard of oz was originally a story about american isolationism during WWI. the author thought we should have just stayed home, hence the line "theres no place like home." theres many, many other metaphors in the movie, supposedly they are much more clear in the novel though.
  19. That ending is sad  im guessing he is talking about the movie ending, so he didnt have to watch it anymore. ive almost burst into tears of happiness before after watching some movies (almost, never quite went all the way :P ) and its not always a "happy" moment, its just so awesome that it makes me really happy. donnie darko SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! at the end when he is laughing in bed, and the engine crashes in and kills him /donnie darko SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PI SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! when he drills into his head /PI SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! dr. strangelove SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! the nukes going off at the end, life on earth almost destroyed, but he makes you laugh about it /dr. strangelove SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! then there are the regular moments that are supposed to be happy: the end of true romance the end of far and away (sorry, im a tom cruise fanboy  ) well, those are off the top of my head, for some reason it seems like im missing very obvious and very big scenes :? edit them in if i remember.
  20. i thought the visuals in it were great. the storyline was finally finished, and it was pretty good. and it was action packed, so it was never boring. i enjoyed it. wouldnt give it a "great" movie rating, because there really wasnt anything new in it. but its one of the movies (like the whole series) that i can watch multiple times and still enjoy it.
  21. that actually makes me feel better, knowing that he didnt want to do it. and id agree, probably still would have been bland even if he had an awesome performance. i definently enjoyed lynch's muholland drive (even though i didnt understand it) so ill look it up :D
  22. well, i dont honor them. but im not mean to them either. i just ignore them, i only talk to them maybe once a week. thats a mutual choice, they dont start a conversation, and neither do i. with the speeding thing, the way i see it, it was the cops decision. he decided i didnt need to be punished, just that i needed a warning never to do that again. and i havent (been over a year now). 2 months of grounding for a psuedo speed warning? no thanks. you are right though, 33 mph is a lot more over the speed limit than i should have been :P
  23. basically the bold means: it is the only post 1970 romance movie that is good. there are probably others out there, just cant think of them at the moment. :? i guess i should say that when i say "straight up" i just mean if you were listing the genres of the movie, romance would be the only one. there can be action, and there can be funny parts, but the relationship part would definently be out front and dominant. i barely know what i mean half the time :D so what did i actually think of the movie? i think it gets the number 10 spot on my all time favorite movies :P in other words, its freaking awesome 8)
  24. hit a shopping cart with my car, police saw me and took me to the police station. didnt even report anything, so its not on my record, but i still got grounded for 4 months. grounded on your birthday sucks, especially when its only halfway through your sentance. only other time ive been grounded was a year later, speeding. 68 in a 35. didnt really get a warning, just took down my info, and said if my parents didnt call me he will write me a ticket. the cop was cool about it, my parents werent. groudned 2 months for almost getting a speeding warning. once again halfway through was my birthday, and not just any birthday, my 18th. yep, i was grounded for a whole month after i turned 18. my parents wonder why i dont like them...
  25. i got a few since i havent posted in a while, its final week this coming week at school so i only have two more things to do (one of which is write a speech, and i have to do it tonight, so thats why im writing this, to put it off.) My Boss's Daughter is a comedy. specifically, a comedy that doesnt have anything else to it, the plot is just barely there so they can call it a movie. starts off how i thought it would, one maybe two good jokes, and the rest of the time im wondering why im wasting my time. throughout the middle it picks up a little bit, it was actually kind of funny. i used to think tara reid was hot, thats the biggest reason why i wanted to see this movie. now that i watch it though, her voice is really annoying. she has that heavy smoker voice, and you have to be a certain type of woman to pull that off (scarlet johansen can definently pull it off :P .) overall a pretty poor movie, you might get a few laughs out of it though. 25th Hour - ill just start off and say if i had to choose a favorite actor, well i couldnt, but ed norton definently would be close if not #1. he is great in this movie, in fact, all the actors/actresses are great in this movie. Philip Seymour Hoffman gave a great performance, it was like that part was written for him. the only, and i mean only bad thing about this movie was it kinda felt like it was trying for awards. dont know exactly how to explain it, but it just felt like it was trying to be different just for the sake of being different. but that didnt matter too much, because it definently pulled it off. great movie, great storyline, you have to pay attention to it though. you cant just stick it on in the background, you wont get the full effect. The Italian Job - i have no problems with remakes, sometimes they are even better than the originals. this movie was a remake of a 1969 movie, and i havent seen it so i cant compare. this movie has a pretty all star cast, mark wahlberg aas the main guy, charlize theron as the token hot girl, and ed norton (there he is again) as the bad guy. i dont know where this movie went wrong exactly, but i didnt like it a bit. i dont mind if the movie is shoved in my brain to where i dont have to think, those sort of movies are ok everynow and then. this one, well i dont know whats wrong with it, but you can feel it the entire movie. i dont even think ed nortons performance was all that great. wasnt bad, just wasnt up to snuff. well, ill leave it at that. School of Rock - i have nothing against jack black, in fact ive actually enjoyed his performances a lot in a few movies (king kong, high fidelity.) he was good for this part, in my opinion. the movie just wasnt for me. i dont know who it was for, since it seems a little to mature for the age group that probably would want to see it. there was a plot, and a moral to the story, just none of it was interesting. maybe if you are really into rock music, i dont know, give it a try. Without a Paddle - seen it before, first movie ive watched before in along time. guess i was disgruntled from the movies above, i wanted something i new would be a little funny at least. and the first 15 minutes was fairly funny, then some friends came over so i really didnt watch it to closely after that. there are a few pretty funny parts, and the story is slightly, i mean slightly more interesting than your average comedy. only a little bit though. good movie to watch with friends. True Romance i said in bubsa's movie villan thread that i was going to watch this today to remember what role gary oldman played. i remembered as soon a few moments after i posted, but i felt like watching the movie anyways. lets just say it now: the only modern romance movie that is just straight up romance that is any good. there are good romance comedies, some really good ones (Fabuleux destin d'Am̮̩̉̉lie Poulain, Le; Lost in Translation to name two), but there hasnt really been any good modern straight up romance movies. none that i can think of off the top of my head anyways. there are many really great old romance movies (casablanca, possibly the best romance movie ever), and i guess the only people that would want to see a straight up romance movies also like old movies, so they have all they need. i dont know why there arent more romance movies, unless my definition of a romance movie is way to narrow (almost all movies have a romantic element to it, so it would be redundant for that to be considered in the romance genre). anyways, even if you dont like romance movies, this is still a great movie. its probably the movie that actually got me to look at romance movies, rather than to immediatly consider them boring. jack@$$: the movie - when i first saw this all those years back (man, 2002 is already 4 years in the past, crazy  ) i thought the movie was absolutly hilarious. people being idiots, and getting hurt a lot. watched the tv show a bit also. i havent really watched anything like it in quite a while, and i felt like watching something funny. many parts still are pretty funny, but about the same amount i didnt find funny at all. they really are jacka$$es. that one guy that dances around the city in a thong, annoying the crap out of people? the only thing i was thinking about when i was watching this was hoping that someone would lay him out with a right hook. teach that idiot a lesson. my humor in these sort of things is odd, because i found the big guy chasing the midget around, both in not to many clothes, funny. they dont single out someone and get all up in their face, they just run past everyone. thought that was pretty funny. another odd part: the hardware store. found it hilarious when he crapped his pants in the car cause he couldnt hold it, found him to be a complete d-bag when he took a crap in the store. i guess i just didnt like seeing them bring other people into it, when they just hurt themselves its funny. have to have a certain type of humor for this movie, if you have it you will enjoy it.
