  1. As a miner who frequently goes to hazardous mining sites (mostly in the Wilderness), I, too, found this guide useful, mostly in answering some of the questions I've had about monster blocking, namely, why do hobgoblins/skeletons get hung up on certain corners and not others. Now I know why, and how to exploit that to make my pker shields more effective. Thanks a million. Great work! --Darg--
  2. Uh, no? If I want to compete with my fellow players, I'll armor up and go pking. If I want to train my skills, especially difficult skills like mining, I don't want to have to fight off a bunch of people just to do it. As for the mining guild, sure, improving it would reduce ore prices, if everyone got what they wanted. If Jagex only made some slight improvements to the Guild, such as increasing the number of Mith rocks to around 10 and maybe adding four or five Addys, it wouldn't impact the ore market that much, and would make the Guild an actual reward, rather than the mere shortcut it is now. If I'm that desperate for coal, I can go to the Skeleton Mine in the shallow Wild and get what I need twice as fast as in the Guild. As for a Smithing Guild in the Mining Guild, I've probably shown some support for the idea in the past, but now I wonder how it would negatively affect the game. I still maintain that the pick seller should be moved into the Guild and that Drogo should sell up to Mith picks, though. I mean, you need to do a big quest or some major acheivement to get the "ultimate" equipment for just about everything else, but miners can get the best picks for nothing but lvl 41 and 32k? That hardly seems balanced. --Darg--
  3. jpg clarity sucks. png is clearer, though the filesize is slightly larger. If you crop the image like everyone else said, though, the filesize difference should be negligible. --Darg--
  4. You get the handles from the same place you get the red feathers for full helmets and the hilts for swords. In other words, a wizard did it. Also, we can't smith picks because way back in the day when the high level picks were released, they were intended to be a money drain; Jagex was becoming concerned with the amount of gp being put into circulation in the game and wanted to bleed some of it away, and so introduced several items that were unmakeable by players like rune picks and black armor. Of course, it didn't work as the amount of circulated gp rose faster than the drains could remove it from the economy, which led to more and more potential drains in the forms of paid transportation and rechargeable/repairable weapons like crystal bows and barrows sets. And we see how well those are working... --Darg--
  5. Sure...in the FOOD store. He said the FISHING store, which is a few steps north of the food store. Nice find, Doomster; that should make Pirate's Treasure a lot faster! --Darg--
  6. Thank you, whirlyboy, for bringing this thread back on topic. To reiterate what whirly said for the idiots: Pmod/Jmod scammers = not gonna happen. The mod crowns appear ON THE CHAT SCREEN, and what they wear has no effect on that. In addition, there is no way, repeat, NO WAY anyone can make their items affect the chat window in that way. You'd have to be a moron to fall for that kind of scam. Yellow Party hat scammers = Might happen, but not a big problem. It'd be staggeringly easy to make the crowns, even gold crowns, look significantly different from a yellow p-hat. Will there be some low-life huckster trying to pass a crown as a p-hat? Sure. Will they succeed? Not for long, especially if Jagex advertises the differences between crowns and p-hats enough. Like whirly said, if you're unintelligent enough to fall for that, it's your problem. Sexism. Oh Lord, come on. If we really want to pursue this, JAgex is already discriminating nearly their entire player base by making the Examine text for the Tiara read "Makes me feel like a princess." That, in and of itself, is a sexist statement. Introducing crowns that would be identical to Tiaras in production and function, and read "Makes me feel like a prince" when Examined, would actually be providing a balance to this. Enchanting a crown with every Talisman. Like I said before, no. Crowns would have to be a complement to Tiaras, not a replacement. To keep the balance, Crowns would have to be the same Crafting level as Tiaras, silver, enchantable by only one Talisman and unadornable by gems. Now, Jagex could introduce Gold variants to both Tiaras and Crowns that may be enchantable by multiple Talismans (possibly through the addition of various Gems), but the Crafting requirement for such items would have to be extremely high. If I understood you correctly, you're saying you can't enchant Tiaras with Air, Water, Earth or Fire Talismans? Since when? I've got a Water and Earth Tiara in my bank right now. If you meant the catalyst Talismans (Nature, Law, Death, Blood, etc.), they're all enchantable into Tiaras as well. Were you maybe getting Tiaras mixed up with Pure/Rune Essence? --Darg--
  7. Oh well, as long as there's a tree there, it's fine. You know, there's dozens of trees around the volcano that are chop/burnable, right? The volcano is about the same walking distance from the fishing spots as the other tree. --Darg--
  8. The whole point of what? Be specific; it might take more than one sentence, but I'm sure you can do it. I swear, it's so irritating when people make one sentence non-replies like that.
  9. Don't, DON'T, DON'T, DON'T turn this into yet another p2p vs. f2p flamewar! There are enough of those here and in the Rants section. As for the original suggestions, while they'd be interesting, I don't see them happening for the same reasons stated above; bikes aren't period and carriages are too similar to horses, which aren't gonna happen, no matter how much we beg. An expansion to the steam car thing in the Dwarf Mine would work for what you have in mind, though. Paying a fee of various amounts to get from town to town on a train would be an alternative to the expensive method of teleing. Of course, the drawback to a train-like transportation would be you'd have to actually be in a town with a "station" to use it, as opposed to the ease of teleing from wherever, and the fee would vary depending on your location and destination (i.e. going from Al Kharid to Varrock would be cheaper than, say, Edgeville to Ardougne.) There could also be a quest requirement before using a train and possibly level requirements, though what either would be I'm not sure of. The current transportation options are probably sufficient, but it's always fun to have options. Think of the major cities you live in or near; wouldn't it be boring if the only forms of transportation were buses and cars? Or subways and cabs? Most cities have a variety of transportation options that usually include subways, trains, cablecars, buses, cabs, walking/bikes and personal vehicles, not to mention the special tourist transportation like San Fransisco's famous trolley or the Orient Express in Asia. In other words, more options are always better, as one option may be just fine for one situation and totally wrong for another. --Darg--
  10. They also recently leaked that we'll be able to sit on chairs we'll be able to make soon. What purpose sitting will serve we'll have to wait and see, but that would seem to give construction or whatever more purpose than is immediately evident. My thoughts are sitting may restore energy or stats faster and may play a part in other skills (sitting to sew leathers/hides faster or spin wool/flax may be a few uses, as possibly would smithing, or some types of cooking.) Also, I'm surprised it has been mentioned already, but don't forget POH's; it's very possible and quite likely that the construction skill will play a large - possibly crucial - role in building and maintaining POHs. As a skill, construction will have far more potential than farming and way more use than slayer, but as a result will most likely be the hardest skill to train to date. Not that it matters a lick to a f2per like me, as it will undoubtedly be p2p only. Bleh. --Darg--
  11. Come to think of it, corwns would have to be plain silver to keep the girls from yelling about sexism against them. Neither is too good of an idea; 2 would serve no purpose except to either waste gems that could be better used as rings or ammys or would make the process too complicated, as the gems would certainly have an impact on the enchantment of the crown. 3 is just silly; that would completely unbalance the RCing scene, especially for Abyss users. Crowns should be a complementary alternative to tiaras, not a complete replacement of them. Think of plate skirts and plate legs; there's no difference between the two except one is geared towards men and the other towards women. Tiaras and crowns should be the same. --Darg--
  12. It's been my experience while mining that it's already a disadvantage; team killers make up about 80% of the PKers that attack me, which is part of the genesis of this idea (for the record, about 15% are trainers who feel like I'm "stealing" their kills and the rest are solo PKers). My experience could be skewed, though, as I'm not a PKer and about the only reason I go to the Wild is to mine. The concerns that were brought up about escalation are something I hadn't considered, and are probably an idea killer. There are probably ways to work around the problem, but they'd most likely be too complicated and unfeasable to implement without making major changes to the nature of the Wild. Oh well, it was a nice idea while it lasted. Thanks for the feedback, guys. I'd give out cookies, but I just ate the last one... --Darg--
  13. That's not how it works now? Well, in that case, I completely agree! There's a reason we put people on our Ignore list!
  14. No to auto-drop. Jagex got rid of that for a reason...well, two reasons; it was meant as an anti-autoer device and JAgex doesn't like powerminers (or powerfishers, or powercutters or power(insert skill)ers), so they will never make it easier for powerskilling. The other suggestion is a good one, and has been suggested in various forms many many times (which should tell JAgex how important a feature it is to add!). It would definitely make the Mining Guild better by eliminating the fierce competitiveness of that area. --Darg--
  15. I love it; it's a simple, useful, easy to implement and adds more Gold items to Crafting! The only potential problem I see is scammers trying to use the crown as a "new, rare" p-hat, but that could be easily worked around. Great idea. I'd love to have manly Crown collection rather than a girly Tiara collection, especially since Examining Tiaras "Makes me feel like a princess." No, sorry, I'm a hetero male...I definitely do not feel like a princess, thank you very much. --Darg--
  16. Thanks, Kiro, I hadn't thought of that. Maybe to prevent that kind of fluctuation, you'd be able to have some control or give orders to your mercs, maybe similar to cats? (you do have some limited control over what cats do, right? I'm not a member, so I'm not sure about that...) Another restriction I forgot about, too, would be mercs can't attack aggressive Random Events, ever. If you get a Shade or an Evil Chicken, you're on your own.
  17. A crazy idea I just thought of (it's probably been suggested before, though I couldn't find anything similar) while posting in a Wilderness thread; what if we could hire NPC mercenaries to protect us in the Wilderness? The idea is still nascent, but how it could possibly work is this: You talk to one of the Mercenary NPCs (who tend to gather north of Edgeville and Varrock), and after a brief dialogue sequence, you give them some gp and they follow you around until they die or you cancel their contract (by talking to them a second time). While they're following you, they will attack any hostile NPC within, say, five paces or any other player who attacks you first. If you attack another player, they will protect you from other hostile players (if in multi-way) or just go after hostile NPCs (if in non-multi-way). Restrictions could include: You can't hire a mercenery whose level is higher than yours. i.e. a lvl 3 power miner can't have an army of lvl 99 mercenaries to help him mine Rune. You can't hire more than three mercs at a time, for obvious reasons. You can't attack the same player as a merc, even in multi-way. This would prevent weaker players from abusing mercs to gang up on stronger or higher-leveled players unfairly. Only one Merc can attack a player or NPC at a time, for the same reason as above. Your mercs can attack other people's mercs, but are still bound to the last two rules. Mercs cannot be used outside of the Wilderness, for any reason. Wilderness level restrictions apply to Mercs the same way as players; i.e., a lvl 78 Merc can't attack a lvl 46 player in the lvl 20 Wild. If you die, tele or otherwise leave the Wild, all Merc contracts are automatically cancelled, and no refunds are allowed. In other words, if you hire three Mercs, get to Lvl 2 Wilderness, then realize you forgot something at the bank and leave the Wild to get whatever you forgot, you will have to re-hire the Mercs. The available Mercs would include all three combat types - Mage, Melee, Range - and would be available at a variety of levels (to make things easier, there could be specific level ranges available, such as 10, 20, 30, etc.). This would be available for f2p and p2p. Another anti-abuse feature would be every Merc would start with a base equipment set (say, steel or iron for melee, basic mage spells or longbows and iron/steel arrows), but could be outfitted with better gear by the player by Using the equipment on a hired Merc. If the Merc dies, they would drop whatever extras you give them (granting you an opportunity to get your stuff back), but if they die with just they're standard gear, they only drop Bones and a small pile of gp. Additionally, if you die while your Mercs have custom gear, you do not get it back. Like I said at the beginning, this is still a half-formed idea, so there are likely problems with it, but if done correctly, it could add a whole new layer of strategy to the Wilderness. --Darg--
  18. As a non-Pker but frequent Wilderness miner, I would love this; it would make my NPC shields that much more effective. However, the main argument I can see against this is, it is the Wilderness. The risk should balance the rewards; if it's too easy to get the good stuff, then ultimately, the game as a whole is hurt, though I do agree that pjers are a deadly nusiance, I'm just not sure if there's anything we can do about them besides bringing our own friends/hired help to protect us. hmm, come to think of it, hiring mercenary NPCs would be a neat addition to the Wild. --Darg--
  19. My best find was similar; I was out at the hobgoblins behind the Crafting Guild when this guy was macroing (he was running around randomly, like he was trying to attack Hobs but kept "missing", then just stood still) or something got killed by a swarm and dropped a Rune Full helm, yellow gloves, Rune Scim, Power Ammy, some uncuts and a ton of lobbys. I grabbed everything but the lobbys, as I didn't have room for them. Being a poor f2per, I was so excited to get that stuff! --Darg--
  20. I can't stand the RuneScape music, so I turn it to off. However, since I do a lot of mining in the Wild, I usually leave the sounds on so I can hear when a PKer comes up, should I happen to go AFK before getting an ore (with a 4-year-old running around, that happens far more often than you'd probably think.) --Darg--
  21. To elaborate on wozfe's response; bringing a 4-dose and only using one of those doses means either dropping the three remaining doses or losing the drop, neither of which are good options. I'm not a member, but I do see how that wouldn't be a good thing, since I understand pots are fairly valuable items.
  22. While amusing, this idea does have one major logic flaw: You're operating under the assumption that all players who enter this club would have the maturity and discipline (not to mention mental capacity) to make witty banter. The sad fact is, any gathering in such a club would almost indefinitely degenerate into slinging of curse- and racial slur-filled flamewars that would serve no purpose but anger kids and get them into a lot of trouble with their parents when it's discovered what they've been doing, and that's the best-case scenario. The worst case is some enraged parents get together and bring lawsuits against Jagex for allowing such things to happen on RS, resulting in the game being shut down. If you think this won't happen, let me remind you of the Hot Coffee mod controversy in GTA and how close that game came to being banned. So, while it's a decent and amusing thought, I don't see it happening for all the potential problems it could - and would - cause. --Darg--
  23. I'm amazed at this...for something that could be added easily, like putting the world you're in on the Friends List, everyone says "Just add someone to Friends and delete them!" Then, for something that would require quite a bit of coding, editting and bug testing, everyone supports it, when the easy answer is, add the person you want to trade with to your Friends List, switch Public Chat to Friends, and Bingo! you've got your Chat Filter. I mean, c'mon, this trick is more convenient for trading than world-finding. --Darg--
  24. Again, what if there's no one around? I frequently find myself the only player in the Hobgoblin Mine, and so I never know what world I'm on; I also go to the least populated world, so I'm almost always on a different world. Having the Friends List tell me what world I'm on would be a great help, especially since I switch worlds whenever a pk team gets too close. Nothing more embarassing than logging back into the same world I just left! --Darg--
  25. Or, alternatively, he can just save up for an Air staff for maging and just make Air Runes for profit. The staff will pay for itself after a few Magic levels.
