I was just at the Draynor Bank, getting ready to go do some fishing at KAramja. Part of my preparations includes chopping a few logs to take with me to cook my catches, but the first tree I tried chopping yelled at me! At first, I thought it was some new Random Event Jagex put into the game that they negleted to tell us about, but during my conversations with the guard, I realized it was just a silly NPC they added at some point. During these conversations, the guard asked me to bring him some stew, and on a whim I did. When I used the stew on the tree, the guard thanked me by giving me 30 coins! What's my point? Uh...watch where cut trees, and if you have 25 Cooking and are looking for some pocket change, try giving him some stew. You can't miss him; his legs are dangling from the tree boughs. Also, I thought it was amusing enough to share.

If they released books based on the history of RuneScape, it might work. Either that, or quest guides that are released in the form of narratives. I once tried to write a series of stories based on my own character, but lost interest as the mechanics of the game kept interfering with the story.

Even if you set your recoveries, you only skip like one in twenty doors. I've been going down there just about every day to collect Laws from the Ankous and in that time I've only been able to skip a handful of doors.

It'd be a waste of time and money to organize an enetire con based solely on RS, but including RS as part of another con would be interesting. Of course there'd have to be some additional incentive to get RS players to come; while a special con item would be nice, I'd like to see some real life replicas of certain RS items. Plastic or foam Rune Scims, Silverlights and Dragon Daggers would be funny. Imagine seeing conventioneers running around with Party Hats and Halloween Masks yelling "PeeHat, three point five million! Press five-five-five...no, wait...hold up your hand to buy!" Okay, that's probably a bad idea, but replica weapons would be neat to get people out. And, they'd be the first RS items you could legally buy and sell on eBay!

Yeah, and last year it read "Our ambition for 2005 is to exceed 650,000 subscribers for RuneScape, to take RuneScape into other non-english language markets and to develop further games using our technologies." The year before that, "Our ambition for 2004 is to exceed 450,000 subscribers for RuneScape, to take RuneScape into other non-english language markets and to develop further games using our technologies." It's old news that JAgex hasn't made any announced progress on. Maybe they are still working on it, but like kiljo said, at the rate Jagex goes, we won't be seeing anything for a good, long time.

I see that as the main drawback for the update; who wants to go through that much trouble just for a minor advantage. It's like how most people in ignore anchovy pizza in favor of swordfish; the minor advantage of extra healing isn't worth the extra effort of actually making the pizzas. Okay, there's also the part about anchovy pizzas being two-bite, but let's ignore that for the sake of argument. In either case, I don't see many people still making these items after a week; once the newness wears off, making the enchanted bolts will probably be a bigger pain in the rear than they're worth, and there might be a huge drop in interest. That's just me, though, and I'm usually wrong.

Have a look at Board Style (pictures here)
dargonhuman replied to ventuzz's topic in General Discussion
It's not pink, it's light-ish red! But, since light-ish red wouldn't fit for a title, then pink works. Also, xubRed looks like Starfleet Command Red, and being the uber-Trek geek that I am, come Sto'Vo'kor or Gre'thor, this will be my default skin! Qapla'! ... The staff of Tantalus V would like to apologize for the above post; this patient has been off his meds and watching too many Star Trek and Red vs. Blue vids. -
Don't bump your topics...if people aren't replying then there's probably a reason for it. There, I replied, like you begged me to do. You never said I had to be on topic, and all that begging makes you look...well, noobish. Sorry if that's harsh, but it's true and I'm too cranky at the moment to soften it up. --Darg--

Time limit on how much you play Runescap
dargonhuman replied to hellbellz's topic in RuneScape Suggestions
No to time limits! I'd hate to be in the middle of a mining run with a full pack of Mith and Addy ores, a pk clan hot on my back with my HP almost gone, run out of playtime just as I got to lvl20 to tele away, then come back when my counter reset and find myself in Lumby without my Rune Pick because the timer didn't log me out fast enough. Besides, as buggy as the auto-log feature is, you know that you'd get cheated out of game play time. --Darg-- -
Yeah, it's been suggested many times, but it's still fun to bring back up once in a while. A few years ago, I would have said something like "Just a lowly miner, not worthy of your attention", but now I think I'd have something humorous like, "Aren't you the nosy one?" or "Seems to have lost a contact lens" or "What do you think you're looking at?" --Darg--

What would the point be? There's no practical game application for such a skill; every other skill has some kind of game application, even if it's contrived, but I don't see how the ability to play music would be useful. So, sorry, but no, I don't see this working. --Darg--

Ooorrr, the data wasn't saved for people on that server, so they reverted back to the last save, since the data isn't saved until you logout properly, and since no one was able to do so... Technically, it was a rollback, I suppose, but not at the doing of Jagex. --Darg--

San Fransisco worlds are the closest to my physical location, but I never go to them because they're always among the highest-populated worlds. I have my World Select page set to show the lowest-pop worlds on top because I hate having to compete for...whatever I decide to do when I login. Fewer people means less competition. --Darg--

That's too funny. I just witnessed a goblin fight in which they used the same "strategy" they would against players. i.e. one goblin tried to run, but the other one chased him down and finished the fight. This is the kind of thing I'd like to see in other areas of the RS world; NPC fights at the Hobgoblin mine would be interesting, not to mention places like the Ice Cave and other similar training spots. --Darg--

The monitor I'm using right now isn't very good, so I have to put it on v. bright just to see anything. Normally, I keep it on bright or normal, though. For about a week, I'd change the brightness to match the time of day (Dark for night, Normal for dusk, Bright for early morning, and V. Bright for midday), but that got annoying, so I stopped. --Darg--

That whole entire exchange was pure comedy gold. I laughed so hard my mom was wondering what was so funny, so I read it to her and she laughed just as hard...and she doesn't even play Runescape! I'd love to see that as a Loonscape comic. --Darg--

I used to be a member, but now... - Why I chose to be F2P
dargonhuman replied to ShadowedKitten's topic in General Discussion
It's precisely that kind of attitude that keeps most f2pers from becoming members. We get enough of that kind of idiocy on f2p; why should we want to pay to get even more of it? The way I choose to look at it is, p2p is like playing a console game with cheat codes; yeah, sure, it's easier, but there's more of a sense of accomplishment if you can do it the harder way. Yes, that will lead to more frustration, but if you can get through that, it makes the victory all the sweeter. To illustrate: I had members for a month (back when RS2 was first released into Beta). During that month, I did a lot of mining at the Coal Trucks, during which I broke 1k coal in my bank for the first time, and I remember thinking, "Hey, that's cool." Just after my membership ran out, I used up almost all of my coal going for a smithing level, and so had to build it all back up again, only in f2p. When I got back to 1k, I remember feeling far more satisfied that I'd gotten there again, because it was more of a struggle this time than it was last. So, between the elitist attitudes and the greater sense of satisfaction, I'm sticking with f2p. Sure, there are things on p2p that I'd like to get (Law rcing, for example), but I don't know that it's worth dealing with the p2p noobs to get them. --Darg-- -
I'm Wondering, Why are There Censors?
dargonhuman replied to hellbellz's topic in RuneScape Suggestions
I suppose the "lighter" curse words (Damn, crap...) would be okay uncensored, but the stronger ones should definitely stay blocked. I don't mind a few "Damn, lost more iron than I expected" and "Crap! Pk clan! Run!" (or even a lot if it came down to it) as those are phrases I might even use, but I play RS to get away from the stronger curses that are so prevalent on the Net (and in general life, sadly), and I really would hate to see them invade my escape. -
I save Star Traks stories to my computer, then load them up in something like WordPad so I can easily resize the window. That way, I can read the story while still being able to see the game screen in case something happens (pker, random, ehatever...). I never talk and only have Public Chat set to On so I can hear if someone's about to attack or report me; I can then take appropriate action (run away or say something that's not autoer-ish). Traks has helped me get countless levels, though sometimes I get a little too engrossed in the stories (especially BorgSpace and Vexed Gen) and I sometimes get auto-logged. *shrugs* It happens... --Darg--

Nice comic, but Drunk Duck sucks. I'd suggest Keen's Comic Genesis for hosting; it's free and doesn't have the annoying popups and spyware ads (CoGen has ads, just not popup ones). I'm not sure how they compare to each other "under the hood", though. In any case, looks like you could have a winner here, though it's hard to tell with just two comics. I'll be keeping an eye on it, though. --Darg--

I don't either; I tried once and the whole time I was training him, I kept thinking, "I'm wasting time that could be better spent making my main even better..." If my "main" got banned, I'd probably quit. For one, all the good names are taken (and I'm too attached to my current name to even want to change it), two, I've invested too much time, hardship and effort into getting him where he is to start over, and three, I've got too much valuable stuff on him that I'd have to replace, and I just don't want to go through all that again. If I ever did come back, I'd probably revive my first character and start building him up again (I quit him because I got bored with his name and I felt that I'd messed up with several things when training him.)

Make random event items not count toward bankspace
dargonhuman replied to ShadowedKitten's topic in RuneScape Suggestions
Great idea; I wonder why no one else has come up with it before... Send it in to Jagex, posthaste! --Darg-- -
It's probably common sense, but I always bring tele runes with me when I go mining in the Wild. Well, that is until the Skull Sceptre was released... Anyway, as I was saying, I always bring something to tele with me in the Wild, or anyplace I think it might be prudent to have some with me, such as the Karamja Lessers or someplace that has trapped goodies like the Port Sarim Jailhouse. --Darg--

Something similar happened to me a while back. My friend was living with me for some time after getting kicked out of his house, and so, being the nice guy that I am, I let him set up his own user account on my computer and get online. One day I went into his account to do some cleaning (virus/adware scan, registry repair, etc.) when I noticed an auto-miner program icon on his desktop. Investigating further, I discovered that he'd dl'ed and installed the damned thing when I was asleep along with some other questionable programs, all of which I deleted. When I confronted him about it later, he said he couldn't figure out how to make it work (yeah, right) and that he was going to delete himself later. I thought about restricting his access then, but decided against it since I live in the sticks and there's really not much else to do besides watch movies and the Internet. I just made sure to keep a very close eye on his user account afterwards, which I'd suggest you do with your bro; you may have dodged a figurative bullet (Rune arrow?) this time, but there's no telling what he's going to get himself into next time. --Darg--
