Smells like a hidden bonus, like the hidden +3 Construction bonus the Crystal Saw (from Eyes of Glouphrie) gives. Intersting, though. I'll have to give this a try on my next Farming run, provided it's not a bug (don't wanna get into trouble for bug abuse : )

How come Jagex doesn't take down updates that didn't work?
dargonhuman replied to Zepheras's topic in RuneScape Suggestions
Whazuwha? I don't know where you get your info from, but that's just not even close. Everyone knows Pure Ess was introduced to stop autoers, but didn't work. Instead, like Randoms, it just hurts legitimate players and barely made an impact on the autoer population; the autoers just shifted their methods to compensate. Jagex has repeatedly stated that they try not to directly influence the player market prices of anything. That doesn't mean their updates don't affect prices, but Jagex doesn't make updates with the sole intent of influencing prices. -
I was mining Addy in the Hobgoblin Mine one time when I was lvl 83 (I'm only 84 now, so it wasn't too long ago), when a pker about 5 lvls higher than me runs up and starts attacking my hobgoblin shield. Normally, I'd run off and get another hobby shield at that point, but this time, I was lucky enough to get a Golem random, but was disappointed when it didn't follow me around the corner. I'd forgotten, though, that the Golems had just been given a ranged attack, so I was still safe from the pker. I cackled slightly insanely at that point, turned on Run while I was mining, then hoofed it as soon as I got my last ore. What added insult to injury for the pker, though, was as he was chasing me past the ghosts (where the Bronze Bolts spawn around lvl 25 Wild), he got stuck behind a tree for a few seconds, which just barely gave me enough time to get to a save Wild level. That was the most fun I've had getting away from a pker that I can remember.

The clothes store in varrock sells pink skirts. Personally, I like the idea of dropping 1 noted item of moderate value, just to get them all excited. Slightly off-topic, but when I smith Addy bars, I usually drink a lot of Dwarven Ales to make the most expensive Addy items possible for alching, but that really drains my combat stats. So, I take about 5,003 gp with me into the Wild with nothing else and let some pker kill me to restore my stats, knowing they'll get a decent 5k "paycheck" for restoring my stats for me.

Now that would be a fun thing to do in real life, no? Someone at work or school (or anywhere, really) starts annoying you, so you slap a little sticker on their forehead and walk away. If nothing else, it'd shut them up for a while as they try to figure out what the heck just happened. Ahhh... Anyway...yeah, general chaos would erupt (again) if noob got the axe. Besides, it's so overused these days that it's practically meaningless anyway.

05-Dec-2006-Treasure Trails, spiders and sheep
dargonhuman replied to Kiriyama's topic in General Discussion
The new spiders look like the wolf spiders in the field behind my house. My first instinct was to stomp the screen when I saw it. Great job, Jagex! The spiders are actually skin-crawlingly creepy now! -
I'm firmly in the camp of "why waste your time"? I've got two accounts; my main who is a member and has some decent levels across the board, and my f2p newb (who is actually my first account, but currently semi-retired), who I use to test new features that my main can't access anymore due to his levels. If I'm doing something on my main, then get bored and want to do something else (say, working on woocut, but want to go do a quest), I'll just stop what I'm doing, switch up my equipment, and go do the other thing. It's something of a pride thing for me; I like seeing all of my levels go up because I know I can do more stuff than the skillers and pures around me. My non-combat skills allow me to do quests and be self-sufficient in ways combat pures can't, and my high combat lets me go to the places lvl3 skillers can't without risking death. If I died and lost everything, I have the combat to go to the sweet spots to get it back quickly, and the skills to do it myself without spending hours merchanting.

Those were intentional puns, weren't they? And, if it's already been suggested and shot down, then I apologize and withdraw the suggestion. *shrugs* No biggie.

Actually, the exact words were "one of the least used", meaning there are others that are used even less often; Cooking and Champions guilds like you said. But, if you were to poll guild members why they dont go to them, you'd most likely find its because they're either ill-equipped for the skill or inconveniently located. The cooking guild doesn't have anything that you either can't get elsewhere or can't live without, and the really the only thing to do in Champions is buy stuff; sure, there're some chickens to "train" on, but it's likely that if you're in the Champions Guild, killing a bunch of chickens isnt even a warm-up. The same holds basically true for the Crafting Guild; sure, it's well stocked with almost everything you need to craft, but it is awfully far from any bank; heck, even the Mining Guild is only a few paces from a bank, and that guild probably generates more gp per player than anything you can do with crafting. So, maybe putting a bank box in the crafting guild isnt a good idea, granted, but maybe moving it a little closer to Falador - or maybe putting a gate closer to the Guild, would make it a little more useful. Maybe a gate next to the chainmail store. And, before anyone brings up the Agility shortcut, I know it's right there, but free players can't use it, and members really don't need to as there are plenty of alternatives to train crafting for members, and none of them include the guild.

If it makes sense to alch bows to get woodcutting, fletching and magic experience, and if it makes sense to get woodcutting, crafting, fletching, magic and whatever other skill experience to make crossbows, then yes, it does make sense to me that we'd be able to burn unstrung bows to get woodcutting, fletching and firemaking experience. Besides which, by choosing to burn rather than string them, you're giving up the additional fletching and crafting experience that you'd normally get from stringing. Like I said, it's just an alternative to alching. Besides firemaking is one of the more underdeveloped (not to mention useless) skills. This would be just one more use for it is all. And the sarcasm at the beginning of your post is neither necessary nor appreciated. There are a lot of things about RS that don't make sense, even for a fantasy game, that have already been implemented, and many of them make less sense than this.
-
Well, they could just make new RSC-style graphics with the current engine; it'd still be a massive undertaking, for sure, but not necessarily that complicated. As for the concerns about duping, it'd be ridiculously easy to set up the RSC realm to not allow anything but stats to come over from RS2. Which would be something of a drag to get your stuff back, but if your skills are good, it'd be easy. The only problem I see with that, though, would be how to balance the points when going back to RS2. One of the other big reasons Jagex separated the two was because there were some things in RSC that were easier to level than in RS2, and vice versa; they didn't want people abusing the system by training on both versions to get mad EXP. If they can get all the kinks worked out, I'd love that to be added; I miss RSC so much sometimes.

I was fletching earlier and it occurred to me that it's unfair to woodcutter to have to choose between burning their logs and seeing their fletching EXP go up in smoke, or turning their logs into arrow shafts/bows/etc and whittling away their firemaking EXP. So, wouldn't it make sense to be able to burn what you fletch to get some firemaking EXP? I can hear the arguments now about how its more profitable to alch the bows and such, but this isn't for those looking for profit. It's just another skilling option for those of us who are more interested in gaining EXP than gp. How it would work is, after fletching logs into arrow shafts or unstrung bows (crossbow parts would be unburnable), you would be able to burn them by using a tinderbox on them. This would only work for unfeathered shafts and unstrung bows; strung bows and unfinished arrows would be unburnable. Also, anything made from Achey Trees would be unburnable, as well as teak and mahogany. The downside would be by burning a fletched item would be the fire would only last 1/4 as long and would only give about 1/3 the EXP of a log. So, burning 15 arrow shafts would only give about 13 firemaking EXP, and would only burn for about ten or fifteen seconds. The EXP table would look something like this: 15 Arrow shafts: 13 EXP Normal bows: 13 EXP Oak bows: 20 EXP Willow bows: 30 EXP Maple bows: 45 EXP Yew bows: 67 EXP Magic bows: 101 EXP Criticism is welcome so long as it's constructive or at least supportable.

There's seven, actually. There's 5 or 6 silver rocks, maybe that's what you were thinking about. Why is it, whenever someone makes a suggestion, someone always argues "it would lower the price"? Screw the price; most suggestions aren't about making money, they're about making EXP. As a frequent user of the Crafting Guild, I agree that it is pretty out of the way, which does have too much of an impact on training. Adding a bank box would be good, as it wouldn't significantly impact the number of gold ores or bars entering the game, given the slow respawn rate of gold ores and the number of people who usually mine gold in the guild. Besides, we'd still have to go to Falador/Al Kharid to smelt the gold into bars and jewelry, so there wouldn't be that much of a jump in levelling. I do agree that adding a furnace would be overkill, though, especially with a bank box. Even without a bank box, though, levelling Crafting would be way too easy, what with the availability of crafting moulds in the guild. It's already insanely easy to make pottery in the guild; bring some buckets, mine some clay, soften, throw on the wheels, fire them in the kiln, drop, and repeat. If this were also available for the jewelry items, there'd be thousands of 99 Crafters in a week. Well, assuming they could find enough ores... And, yes, there are something like ten or eleven sheep just north of the guild.

That's funny. Myself, I usually have none; I keep private and trade set to Friends, but lately I've had public set to On, just to keep an eye out for unexpected deals, and I'll add people who are being annoying, like spamming. I usually delete them in a few minutes, though; they only stay Ignored long enough for them to get bored and stop or go somewhere else.

The RS client that jemathonical mentioned doesn't have a Refresh button; you have to right click off the RS map to refresh. Just a thought. It's in the Extra Files section of the RS site if you don't have it.

Since my computer's in the living room, whenever I'm getting ready to do a large task that is really boring like rcing or mining, I'll plug in a good movie and watch that as I work. It's surprising how fast 5 loads from the Coal Trucks goes past!

Sweet, thanks for the help guys.

Does the Ring of Life work past Lvl 20 Wilderness, or does it have the same restrictions as all other teleports?

A discussion regarding giving away items.
dargonhuman replied to Centuramage's topic in General Discussion
It's not about the receiver, but the giver. Giving stuff away is supposed to make the giver feel good about brightening someone's day, but when the receiver isn't grateful, that spoils the good feelings, which is what the original poster was saying. -
*snicker* yeah, I'm lvl 81 and got the melee training stuff; the tutor was like "You're a little big for these, but here you go anyway." Well, I thought it was amusing.

ugh.....the new graphcis made me cringe...im not kidding!
dargonhuman replied to rushrock's topic in General Discussion
I'm trying to reserve judgement for at least a week to get used to the new graphics. At first blush, though, I don't really care for them, either. The new equipment screen is nice, and lumbridge tele should be useful to newbies (I wish they'd had that when I was new...), I'll give them that. The rest...well, I'll see how I feel about it next wednesday. -
Something that just occurred to me; why is it illegal for friends to gift memberships?
-
I wasn't asking about the legality; we're as good as brothers, so I'm not worried about that. Thanks topide and icecube. That's a big help, and just the info I needed.

A rl buddy of mine is talking about buying me a membership soon, and I had a question about members quests: which quests would be good to start with? I had members for one month a few years ago, and as a result have already done the Fishing Contest and (by accident) Witch's House. I've done all the f2p quests and my stats are: Thanks in advance for any help I can get.

A discussion regarding giving away items.
dargonhuman replied to Centuramage's topic in General Discussion
When I'm in a generous mood and want to give stuff away, I just go somewhere that's relatively populated and start dropping. No announcements, no trades, nothing to draw attention to myself. I've found this to be the most satisfying method as no one gets disappointed with the drop, since there were no expectations going in, and I don't hear any begging, complaining or what-have-you from anyone since no one knows it was me. It's pretty win-win for everyone.
