  1. 1. If a friend from RL lent you a party hat to wear once and give back, would you take it? 2. If an ingame friend gave you his partyhat to wear then give back, would you take it? 3. If a rich person you hardly knew lent you his partyhat to wear and give back, would you take it? I'll answer all three at once, since the answer is the same: No item, especially one as useless and overhyped as a p-hat, is worth a friendship (real or virtual) to me. While I might use the hat for a specific purpose (Having fun at the Party Room or their House), I would promptly give it back when I was done. 4. If you knew someones password, and knew they were rich, would you take thier stuff?[/b] No, not even a few "worthless" trinkets they'd never miss. I would hate for someone to do that to me, so I would never do it to someone else. 5. Would you kill a skulled person in the wilderness for a partyhat? No, since I suck at pking. I'd give it my best effort, though, since they're dumb enough to even bring a p-hat to the wild. 6. Would you accept a duel with a much lower level that stakes all his money (say 5 mil)? Sure. If he's willing to risk it, I'll happily unburden him of it. It's not like I coerced him into it or anything. 7. If someone died, and dropped something valuable, would you give it back. AND how valuable would it have to be for you to keep it? Having actually been in this situation, I can honestly say, no, I'd keep it. But only if it's stuff I either need or is relatively inexpensive or easy to get. Rune items and the more common TT or dragon items I'd keep; better stuff (p-hats/rares or newer Dragon stuff/an Abby whip) I'd at least make a serious attempt to give back. Unless it seemed to me like they were cheating, then all bets are off!
  2. But I think the company should care about us customers, I think people that play for more than 5 hours a day can catch diseases and it's bad for Jagex if their customers get diseases. Seriusly. Jagex's only real responsibility to its users is to ensure their products don't damage our computers. Otherwise, its up to the players to exercise personal control and discipline.
  3. The most I've ever had was around 500k. I've only got somewhere between 350k and 400k right now. I have trouble holding onto cash because I usually spend it on smithing and crafting supplies just about as fast as I can earn it.
  4. I'd probably shrug my shoulders with indifference and move on. There are some really interesting games going up on bionicle.com that would fill the gap.
  5. Jagex is working on clan support, in case you were unaware, Gidion. It's just a teeny bit of a difficult update to implement into the current engine. As for the team capes, it would make p2pers happy, and that is Jagex's primary motivations. The fact that it would also make f2pers happy is just a bonus side effect. Although, I do agree with knight10071 that the team capes should work like Canifis gloves.
  6. Oh, that makes sense now; I apologize for my snide comment. That does suck.
  7. You didn't see the white dot on your minimap? And how does someone "hide" in RS? I mean, this isn't exactly Metal Gear Solid or Halo, here. In this case, it's your fault for not being more observant while in the Wild.
  8. Yes, turn it to the lowest setting and it is the same as Off. Probably. I'm also on dial-up, and even with the music player set to full, I rarely see any extra lag outside of moving from music area to music area, and even then it's barely noticeable; most of the Flash ads in f2p cause more lag than the music for me.
  9. I'm a miner/smither (meaning I smith everything I mine), and I have no patience for competing with other people for resources, so I usually go to the Wild to get my ores. I've got level mining and level smithing, and one thing I've noticed after mining literally tens of thousands of mith ores is that the rocks seem to have a random number of "hit points" assigned to them when you click (by "hit points", I mean the number of times you have to swing your pick at the rock). Sometimes when a mith rock is being too stubborn, I'll click on the next rock in line, then go back, at which point I get the ore with considerably less fuss. This led me to test my developing hypothesis by finding another stubborn rock, clicking the rock next to it, then clicking back on the offending rock real quick. More than half the time, I got the ore from the stubborn rock in under five hits. I've also tried this without clicking on other rocks, but that doesn't seem to have the same effect. If true, the randomly assigned "hit points" would be dependant on mining level; in other words, if you're just barely able to mine mith, your rocks would frequently get higher numbers assigned, whereas a level 40-something miner would get mostly 1's 2's and 3's assigned to his Iron rocks. And who knows, armor may play a factor, too. Of course, it could all be random, as I've been able to one- or two-hit fifeen coals in a row, then get stuck on one stubborn rock for up to six minutes, only to go right back to one- and two-hitting. Without being able to directly analyze the game code, we're all just guessing. Only Jagex knows for sure, and they're not telling, most likely due to paranoia that cheaters might find a way to abuse the code somehow, which actually might be a fairly healthy paranoia...
  10. Yep: total combat level. Let's assume that in your examples, those are the only combat stats those two characters have raised (let's also pretend that somehow their HP hasn't been raised above the baseline 10HP, just to keep it simple...) Having a 50/50/45 character will give you a combat level of 46, whereas 50/50/20 will give you a combat of 40. Now, if the lvl 40 were to get up to 46 by only raising strength, they'd have 69 str, 50 att and 20 def, which would just about destroy the other lvl 47, regardless of his 45 def. The point of pures, as I understand it, isn't about surviving a long time, but rather killing quickly so you don't have to survive a long time. [history lesson]Nowadays, with all the new escape options, defensive tricks and such, pures are somewhat obsolete, but back in the RSC days, they ruled the Wild like dark lords of chaos because of something called the 3-Hit Rule. Basically, in RSC, you couldn't retreat until after three rounds, and you couldn't eat while in combat, so if someone could kill you within that three-round limit, you were pretty much screwed. This gave rise to the notion that, if you poured all of your combat EXP into strength and attack, with just barely enough defence to wear the best armor, then you could concievably kill just about anything - and anyone - you came into contact with. Where once pures were forces to be reckoned and feared, the complete overhaul of the pvp system pretty much turned pures into a novelty at best and a fad at worst. The main reason most pures survived into RS2 during the changeover was because most pure players didn't understand (or were in denial that) they were no longer the top dogs of the Wild. Most of the new pure accounts are just sad, lame attempts to jump onto a bandwagon whose axle broke a long time ago.[/history lesson] I hope that clears up a lot for you.
  11. Orrr, instead of risking (and most likely losing) our valuable and often hard- or expensive-to-replace equipment, we could go "naked" and just bear the burden of having our efforts thwarted by loser pkers. Just because we find it annoying, it doesn't mean we can't accept that as part of the reality of the Wild. It's just nice to have a place to gripe impotently about it.
  12. So explain the millions on websites that sell Runescape gold? :-w Um, they're kinda illegal and not associated with Jagex? Besides which, I've checked the "availability" of several site proclaiming to sell RS gold, and every single one of them was "out of stock until further notice". Which to me means they can't keep their autoers unbanned long enough to drop trade their gp to their mains. As for the effects of official buyable stuff, they would be catastrophic. Look at the current social divide between f2p and p2p. Now, imagine how much worse that would be with other purchaseable things.
  13. So, you want to basically double the amount of weapons and armor in a game where there are already too many weapons and armor types with basically useless items? That doesn't compute. Are you crazy man? That wouldn't double the amount of surpluss stuff, it would lower it. Actually, I was talking about the programming side of the equation, but that does bring up a good point regarding bank space; there isn't enough bank space - p2p or f2p - for what's in the game now, nevermind doubling the potential number of items in the game.
  14. RS does have a slim educational benefit, but studying your school textbooks is still better. I'd hate to be the school teacher that gets a report that cites the Lumbridge incident with the Dorgeshuun as an example of medieval diplomacy or Pyramid Plunder as an example of Egyptian trap techniques, though.
  15. One, stop yelling. Using all caps is not only rude, but it makes you look like an idiot. Note, I'm not calling you an idiot, I just said you're making yourself look like one. Two, this entire thread is one big rant against bloodthirsty pkers like you; we already know why you people do it, and we don't like it. Coming in here and giving us an example is just providing kindling for a flamefest. Three, gaining 3 million total exp takes a lot more skill than killing a defenseless low-leveller in the Wildy when you're loaded for a fight. Comparing the two is like comparing stepping on bugs and changing the tires on a car; killing bugs isn't anything, but changing car tires does take some skill and knowledge, even if it is a relatively easy task.
  16. I don't know what country you hail from, but sadly in America that's more true than most people realize. Mostly because our public schools are too busy trying to teach basic English to the kids of illegal aliens to be bothered to focus on the native-born students. Or, all the classroom time is being sucked up with ridiculous "multi-cultural" garbage like saying the Pledge of Allegience in three different languages. I'm not going to turn this into an anti-immigration rant, but the fact is, the American education system isn't working, and hasn't for almost a decade, so the only real education most kids get is actually outside of the classroom. As for poor grammar in RS, yeah, it's annoying to not be able to read what someone said because their text looks like something a hyperactive, half-blind monkey with eight fingers typed out, but when it starts to get that annoying, I just turn Public to off.
  17. Putting critisizme aside, you are saying that the timeframe isn't important. That's true in many cases but usually they don't overlook a problem for this long, the only exception would be when people havn't noticed the problem much but that isn't the case for flag holding. There are plenty of rants from people and so I think we can assume that Jagexs knows that this is a much debated issue. For the moment, they have chosen to do nothing about it. If they do or do not change it in the futur is a different story, but only speculations can be done about that. That just blew a hole the size of Ardgoune into that argument, you realize this. If it took Jagex this long to change that, then it means they could change anything, up to and including flag holding in cwars, it's just they haven't gotten around to it yet. Like you said, though, we'll just have to wait and see what the future holds.
  18. This has been suggested a thousand times, and a thousand times it's been rejected as a bad idea; it just makes levelling the "annoying" skills too easy, and most of the skills are easy enough to raise as it is. So, you want to basically double the amount of weapons and armor in a game where there are already too many weapons and armor types with basically useless items? That doesn't compute.
  19. Wait, what? Since when is charging through the enemy lines, grabbing the flag, then running for your life and just barely getting back to your base with 2% HP left monotonous? Sounds pretty damn exciting to me. You want to know what's monotonous? Standing around for fifteen minutes waiting for the match to end because you can't get past the ten Barragers guarding the other team's flag holder. Bor-ing.
  20. That's what we're talking about; if Jagex worked to make the game more interesting and less repetitive for high-levels, less of them would quit.
  21. No kidding; eventually all those low-levels JAgex is currently catering to will become high level. Heck, there's really no "eventually" about it; since the release of Pest Control, we've already seen an explosion of 100+ combat levels. Sure, there will always be more mid-levels than high-levels, but by that same logic, there will always be more low-levels than mid-levels, too, but that doesn't mean Jagex needs to release more Sheep Shearer-type content to cater to them. In the same light, continuing to ignore the high-levels as Jagex is doing will become a problem as the high-levels will begin quitting out of boredom in larger and larger numbers, eventually leading to a kind of "critical mass" in which the influx of new players sticking around long enough to become mid-levels won't be able to keep up with the demand. That's admittedly a bit of a worst-case scenario, but it could happen easier than I suspect JAgex thinks.
  22. Okay, I'll allow that the second example isn't cheating, per se, as you are actively giving the other team a chance to get the flag (even if I think holding your own flag is still a form of bug abuse...) but only if you don't have an overwhelming number of people defending you; six or seven mid-levels, at most three high-levels and maybe one Ice Barrager would be a challenge to get through, but not impossible. Five Barragers, a dozen lvl 100+'s and twenty mid-levels is completely unfair, no matter how you look at it, especially when the holder camps right next to their own castle so their reinforcements can come back five seconds after dying while the other team has to run all the way back across the arena to try again.
  23. Winning really is no fun at all , who could possibly want an easy 2 tickets? Winning isn't everything. If the round is fun, I don't care if I win or lose. On the other hand, if the game gets boring, like when people hold their own flags, I'll quit the game, even if I am on the winning side (I've quit more games where I was winning than losing because of this). Also, you can cheat and still not break any rules. Cheat codes on other games may be programmed in to the game, and thus "allowed" by the programmers, but you're still cheating by using them. As far as I'm concerned, holding your own flag in cw is the same as activating God Mode or No Clip on Half Life. Yes, you can do it and it makes the game a lot easier, but it also makes the game far more boring. Cheat codes are considered cheating because they give you a completely cheap ability without having to do anything. To hold your own flag you must kill the opponent. Which part of this do you not understand? You are acting as if people can grab their own flag at any time. If it was possible to grab one's own flag at any time, it would be too easy but this is not the case. You need to kill the opponent which isn't always easy. Furthermore you must not be killed after having grabed your own flag. These are two conditions. Cheat codes are different because there are NO conditions, you just have to imput a sentance and then you get some unfair advantage. But flagholding isn't unfair because you had to work for it. It's not a matter of convenience or conditions, it's a matter of morality. It's immoral to use cheat codes, just as it's immoral to hold your own flag, no matter how easy or difficult either may be.
  24. As some other people already mentioned too - money takes time to get, it doesn't just fall out of the sky into people's pockets. And the option should not be interesting for most people, it should cost enough money to ensure that. I don't see how something wouldn't be respectable anymore if you gained it in a different way with hard work as well. I'm going to use Pest Control as a working example for this, too. Before PC came out, just breaking lvl100 cb was something to be praised. Since PC, though, lvl 110+ players are about as common as full Rune, and thus the respect once enjoyed by high leveled players no longer exists. This is because a new, faster alternative to "grind training" was introduced that basically allowed you to buy your way to max levels without putting in the full effort. Sure, you still have to play and win a number of rounds of PC to max out your stats, but the time and effort required now is a mere fraction of what it used to be. Imagine if people began outpacing players like Zezima in months or weeks, as opposed to years. That would not benefit the community at all. It may still take effort to get the gold to buy the EXP, but in RS, gold flows like water; it is so insanely easy to get money that most people would have all 99s plus all skill capes in no time.
  25. It is, but hardly anyone uses it, so I didn't really want to bring it up. As I understand it, you can also solo the trawler, though it's not recommended, which actually accentuates the point that there aren't enough optional solo/team things to do in RS (outside of pking, anyway). Barrows would probably be awesome as a team event (never done Barrows myself, so I'm not sure), while quests like Shield of Arrav would be so much easier if we weren't required to find another player to help out; I agree with botan that the hardest part of Shield of Arrav was just finding someone to do it with.
