New Wilderness Update: Player > NPC in Single Area
dargonhuman replied to muggiwhplar's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, even as a non-pker, I felt the Wild had become far too tame. I get all my coal and mith/addy ores from the wild mines, and while I've been attacked by pkers, I've rarely felt truly threatened by any of them. -
With the name Master_Smither, I figured you would. Although I'm curious, does the Blast Furnace even count as a smithing update?
-
Definitely worse; the f2p/p2p divide was widened, the autoers are still around and making even more money, and f2p ess miners were left holding the bag. The problem, as I see it, is pure ess is too profitable. If the legit players would stop being blinded by all that gp and charge less for their pure ess, then the bots/farmers would lose business, forcing them to lower their prices (and cut into their profits). Eventually, if everything went well, they'd lose too much profit and move on. Admittedly, that's probably an over-optimistic view, but it could happen. We need to do something different; Jagex seems powerless to stop them, and if market manipulation is an option, then it's one that we've got to take control of, since the market is under our control.

Karamja pier, ANY f2p world.

combat is that all new players want to do?
dargonhuman replied to ckyowns's topic in General Discussion
I think that's how it goes for a majority of newbs. It's certainly true of my first character, at least, until I discovered the simpler joys of mining and smithing and made my current main, whom I classify as a miner more than a fighter. -
That was you? j/k. The worst I remember doing was telling a slightly dirty joke to a friend in pm, and accidentally telling the punchline in public. I was checking for blackmarks on my account for weeks after that.

Have the autoer/gold farmer bannings helped or hurt you?

sorry, double post. -
Have the autoer/gold farmer bannings helped or hurt you?
dargonhuman replied to Aneron's topic in General Discussion
Ditto; all the gp I have came from alching things I made from resources I gathered myself. Anytime I do buy material, it's always from either a general store or a specialty store. That's mostly because it's cheaper and (usually) faster to buy from stores. -
Where have you been the last few years? Fm has had plenty of updates; funeral pyres, those funky colored firestarters from treasure trails, new logs. In all that time, mining got ... limestone and granite for construction? Whoopdie-flipping-do. Heck, even fm's "sister" skill, woodcutting, got it's Dragon item. Miners are still waiting for our dragon picks, not to mention mining's sister skill smithing hasn't gotten squat since claws were released (unless hunter added some new smithable items...I lost my membership just after hunter was released). So, mining ftw. Or, ftl as the case may be...

Not everyone reads the official forums, so for us, this is new. I may have to give RoWs a whirl next time I get members.

Change Back the New "swing" When Mining (new pics!!)
dargonhuman replied to unorclan's topic in RuneScape Suggestions
I knew drinking all those potions made with strange "herbs" couldn't have been good. But seriously, yeah, the new animation is a bit Nickelodeon-like in it's exaggeration. If anyone in rl used a pickaxe like that, they'd throw out their back in the second swing. The trick to real pick swinging (I've learned the hard way) is to actually keep your feet stable and your trunk balanced, then move your arms as little as possible to conserve energy. You're supposed to let the weight of the pickhead produce the necessary momentum to make an impact. -
That would be great if we could somehow wield tools in either hand. For example, pick in yuor weapon hand and hammer in your shield hand. Also, anyone else feel a little cheated that worn rings don't appear on your character's hand?

Sandwiches - FIRST PAGE UPDATED!
dargonhuman replied to The Observer's topic in RuneScape Suggestions
Nice idea, but the sandwiches would need some kind of special incentive for people to use them. Maybe some kind of stat enhancement or skill boost? I dunno what, exactly, but something to think about to keep sandwiches from going the way of pizzas and such. -
I, too, like this idea and hope for it's eventual implementation. While it wouldn't really impact core gameplay (hopefully), it would add a bit of "flavor" to the world in the same way the recent graphics updates have. Jagex would just have to be careful to make the animations fast enough so that they don't slow down response times to aggressive enemies, randoms in particular. A possible addition fo this idea could be brief animations showing your character donning and removing armor/costumes. Let's face it, it's a little disconcerting to see bits of armor just appear over your clothes.

The wise old man... rogue in disguise?
dargonhuman replied to prof_fleb's topic in General Discussion
That was never proven! All the evidence is cirxumstantial, and his "confession" was coerced when the Guard questioning him threatened to set the WOM's blue p-hat on fire. With one of the WOM's own tinderboxes to add an extra layer of insult. Still, it's interesting that the WOM goes around rescuing people like that. He's like RS's own superhero! And, like most superheroes, not only is his work never done, but the public slings slanderous and libelous lies at him, as with the aforementioned bank robbery. In fact, I bet that's where he got all those new treasures; either it's some kind of salary or pay from Jagex, or grateful players are giving him gifts. Either way, that's a perfectyly logical explanation for how he acquired his treasures legitimately. -
If you look towards the bottom of the scammer's trade window, it says "Trade modified" in red letters, too.

New Wilderness Update: Player > NPC in Single Area
dargonhuman replied to muggiwhplar's topic in General Discussion
If it is, then it won't be fixed until the next update at the earliest, though possibly not until much later. Incidentally, the meat shield tactic still works, though slightly differently; the other player can hit you if you're under attack by an NPC, but if another NPC (or player, I presume) hits them, it cancels their attack on you. In other words, if you're letting a Hobgoblin attack you, then a pker attacks you, it cancels the Hobgoblin's attack. This frees the Hobgoblin to attack the pker, which in turn cancels the pker's attack on you until the pker kills the Hobgoblin. So yeah, if it isn't a bug, then we still have a slightly less-effective but still-present meatshield tactic. If it is a bug, well, we'll just have to adjust our strategies for a short while until it's fixed. Either way, all is not lost. -
Yeah, the dragon ore comment was meant to be a silly/sarcastic idea to point out there's really nothing truly new to add to mining; just tweaks and upgrades to existing content. I probly should have added a fake [/sarcasm] tag to make that clearer. Sorry...

They probably thought it was going to be "hard" like the Security Stronghold, but were unpleasantly surprised. I mean, if you've got a decent combat level, the hardest part to getting a sceptre is waiting for the drops. Anyone with over 50% energy can get the boots in the SS. NOTE: My comparison is pure speculation, as being f2p, I have no idea how hard the GWD really is. Everything I know is hear-say from other TipIt threads.

New Wilderness Update: Player > NPC in Single Area
dargonhuman replied to muggiwhplar's topic in General Discussion
I've got mixed feelings about this. Emotionally, I want to yell and scream and throw a tantrum that I can't (as MidnightHarvester so eloquently put it) use a meatshield when mining. Yet, logically, I can understand and even accept this update as necessary; being able to use meatshields nerfed most of the danger of the Wild. By eliminating that advantage, the Wild is now much riskier, in keeping with the spirit of the Wild. Like flag-holding in Castle Wars, it wasn't exactly cheating, but it wasn't exactly keeping in the spirit or intent of the area. Having said all that, though, this update had better have been made to make the Wild more dangerous, and not simply as an anti-autoer ploy. The former I can come to accept. The latter, though, would be just one more example of Jagex hurting legit players in an overzealous attempt to stop autoers; Pure Essence, anyone? -
Hey, that was never proven, as all the evidence was circumstantial. Also, if around 30 minutes Earth time equals 24 hours Gielnior time, that would mean our time is actually slower. Like that episode of Star Trek Voyager where they found the tachyon-core planet; for that world, one of our seconds was something like 20 years (I don't remember the exact difference) Even if the WOM was using Earth time, like others said, he's old. Ever see how slow real life old people are?

That made me giggle. The Behind-the-Scenes are only the updates that Jagex plans to realease this month, and shouldn't really be taken as a guarantee. There have been several announced updates in BtS posts tht didn't materialize until the next month. Setbacks happen, especially to large corporations, and when they do, we've just got to be patient.

Suggestions For A New Combat-Affecting Skill?
dargonhuman replied to Kempomkills's topic in General Discussion
I really like that Resiliance idea, though I can see how it would be difficult to implement. I had a pretty good Summon skill idea on another forum a long time ago that was loosely based on Warcraft 3's item-based summons, but I don't remember half of it and the forum has since disappeared. What little I do remember was the skill would let you make enchanted statues of various materials (wood, clay, metal, etc.) that you could temporarily bring to life to fight for you. I also remember something about healing or enhancing them by feeding them the raw form of their component material (ores, logs, etc), but I don't remember all the details of how that worked. I think there was also a multiple-summon option for higher skill levels that worked similarly to RuneCrafting's multi-craft bonus, but again, the details are lost to the sands of time. -
There is No Point in Having Two RS Accounts
dargonhuman replied to Foodfight13's topic in General Discussion
It's not logical to have two accounts, but we're not dealing with logical Vulcan children here, we're talking about emotional human kids. They get bored with grinding out levels and so create new accounts to get fast levels. For some people, seeing "Congratulations, you have gained a X level" is more exciting than getting a high level. I have multiple accounts myself, but I only really play on one. The other two are to test low level updates that my main can't do anymore, like quest updates and such. Of course, one of them is an account that I lost interest in (I stopped liking the name and I felt I messed up the skills). The point is, there are no logical reasons to make multiple accounts, but there are quite a few emotional ones. -
A vastly improved guild would be great; I think that and the dragon pick are the two most-requested updates for mining, but unless they make a new Dragon ore (and a subsequent Smithing update), I, too don't see how mining can be really improved. Also, having multi-ore rocks wouldn't work for a lot of reasons.
