July 16, 200619 yr I logged on to my computer this afternoon, which I share with my brother, and in the process of starting up something pops up on the screen. It's a little box that's titled "Perfect Keylogger: Evaluation Version." I stop breathing and I'm pretty sure I had a brief cardiac arrest for a second or two. In the box were four buttons, saying "Buy Now", "Keep Evaluating", "Enter Registration Code", and "Exit." I exit the thing and immediately go for the Control Panel into Add or Remove Programs. Sure enough, there's the Perfect Keylogger software. I remove it and several other things that I wasn't familiar with just for safety. I run a Norton anti-virus scan and while it's scanning, I go to the other room and have a little chat with my brother. I ask him if he knows anything about software called Perfect Keylogger, and his response, which I anticipated, was "Why do you want to know?" which is a typical guilt response from him. I tell him I found it on the computer, and he says, "Yeah, I installed that last night to help log my chats." At this point I was ready to break his neck. I explain to him calmly that a keylogger is a virus designed to record your passwords so people can hack into your accounts, such as Runescape and the particular game he was playing. He then asked if I got rid of it, and I said "Yes." He then goes crazy and says, "I needed that! It was important! I'm going to delete something of your now, stupid!" Extremely fortunate for me, though, was the fact that he downloaded the keylogger after I was all finished on the computer and before he shut it down for the night. Norton is still running now, so I hope I took care of everything. For all I know, my account is safe, but I'm obviously waiting until the scan stops to make sure. And thanks, Jagex, for reminding me that it's always best to change passwords and recovery questions AFTER scanning for viruses. Here's a list of emotes representing how I'm feeling right now:   :wall: #-o :shame:   :wall:  :!: And if he EVER does this again, I swear... the russians are the best! Hands down!
July 16, 200619 yr If my bro would do that he would be in a hospital right now... You're right your bro is an idiot
July 16, 200619 yr haha, this is the best story ever! Nah, attacking your brother just for that is a bit of going south of the border. Visit my Runescape comedy website, based on in-game screenshots.
July 16, 200619 yr Lucky it was after you were done.. Your brother truly is, mentally challenged, and a complete imbecile, not to mention ignorant to everything. Wolfy is Officially Retired.I miss you all (Well, mostly my friends n stuff)If you want to talk to me, send me a message, I check the boards daily. :D
July 16, 200619 yr Perfect keylogger does nothing on it's own............. It let you read your own keystrokes -.- gah!!! he is bumping after 1 minute, IT HAS TO BE A RHQER!!! KILL THE RHQER!!!Lmfao my 10 year old nephew plays grand theft auto and ive never seen him runover a prostitute in a stolen police car so i doubt little kids playing rs will go pickpocketing
July 16, 200619 yr Perfect keylogger does nothing on it's own............. It let you read your own keystrokes -.- as in, it doesn't send the information to random people? eh, either way, i can see no use for it, it seems like a liability, and a potential bad thing. eh, at least i do not have to worry about my little brother being that stupid... errm... maybe i do... ah well. RAVE BREAK!
July 16, 200619 yr If he needs to log his chats so bad...tell him to get Google Desktop, theres a bunch of different settings on what is recorded. I've had it for a couple months, seems safe to me :)
July 16, 200619 yr I am not even going to finish reading your post. I stoped after, "I logged on to my computer this afternoon, which I share with my brother..." First off this is agaisnt the rules. Second of all, you have a little brother, you are the big brother. You will be fixing his mistakes for the rest of your life. So do not trust him with any of your possesions. *Sigh* I won't get into my big brother stories, but I do have a few... So lesson learned, hopefully there was no net loss on whatever happened to you. so what you are saying is that every single person in your own family has to use a difernet computer for runescape??? :-s non-member for life
July 16, 200619 yr I am not even going to finish reading your post. I stoped after, "I logged on to my computer this afternoon, which I share with my brother..." First off this is agaisnt the rules. Wow, relax. He shares the computer, not the account. Pay attention to what you're reading before commenting.
July 16, 200619 yr so what you are saying is that every single person in your own family has to use a difernet computer for runescape??? :-s No I am saying that he is breaking a rule and shouldn't be sharing his Runescape account, especially with a younger brother. I thought my words spoke for themselves but obviously you do not know how to read, Delete your spam... Then I shall delete my flame on your stupid post, moron! I have no patience for ignorance. He shares the COMPUTER with his brother, not his runescape account. That is completely allowed. Also, there would be no point in keylogging your brother if you shared the same account. Edit: I_Am_Me1 beat me too it. :)
July 16, 200619 yr I already admited my ignorance, stop quoting me on it :/ ROFL I've already reported my own post, get off my back lol. My comment about the big brother thing still stand though :P So you shouldn't share a computer with your brother, buy your own. If that isn't an option give your brother restricted privileges so he can't install software... There, I'll be constructive out of this whole thing, just to make my wrong right :P I actually took the one minute to finish reading the full post... Well I have a suggestion. Get your brother using GAIM, he then can easily log all of his IMs.
July 16, 200619 yr What an idiot. Put a pass on your comp right now, so he'll never get into it  "The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."
July 16, 200619 yr So you shouldn't share a computer with your brother, buy your own. If that isn't an option give your brother restricted privileges so he can't install software... A bit off topic here, but here's a little tip for any of you with constant virus problems (well, other then the obvious ones): Use a secondary comp account, one that has very few priveleges. Most viruses won't be able to install their programs if the account they latch onto doesn't have the right permission... Oh and btw, I keep my screensaver password protected, and it comes up after a minute. NOBODY but me touches my comp. Quit runescape, now playing EVE-Online(Mail Cambarus and say hi  )
July 16, 200619 yr Author Scanned everything and it's all clear. Gave little brother a good talk about downloading things without parents' permission, threatened to kill or maim if he does not. Whew, that was close. At least I'll have my own computer in college. I hope. \ the russians are the best! Hands down!

GAIM isn't a logger if that is the impression I gave. Gaim is s multi-protocol instant messaging client I love Gaim ill throw in a good word for it every chanse I get!
July 16, 200619 yr man i would have curb stomped my bro if i got hacked because of that RIP:Hell Buster1<̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃââÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃââÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãââ>Due To The Power Abuse Of Mods<̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃââÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃââÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãââ>
July 16, 200619 yr Same thing happened to me too. Except it was my sister. I was carrying my life savings of gp [i used to like to admire it, it was 200k at the time  ], while burying bones. I said to my sister, "keep burying bones for me, I gotta do something for mom." So when I came back I was getting hit by a zombiee! [Auto retaliate was off] I had 2 hp left, then the screen changed to lumby castle :-# . I didn't punch my sister or anything though lol. back to rs, i guess. it's been 4 months. RSN:P H Osho <- gonna start on him soon, fresh.

July 17, 200619 yr I assume your brother wanted to log his AIM chats -- tell him not to get a keylogger, but an AIM client instead. Even if the keylogger doesn't send information to anyone else, there's no good that can come out of this. :x Good thing you realized that it was installed! ==================================Retired tip.it moderator.Teaching and inspiring.
July 17, 200619 yr I'm terribly sorry to hear of you losses! Good luck in the near future and make sure he doesn't try anything again! Legendary F2P Skiller

July 17, 200619 yr Downloading a keylogger for your own computer won't do anything...theres many of them which you can use for personal use..just google them & nothing would have happend to your account, unless your brother plays RS and was trying to steal your pass
July 17, 200619 yr Something similar happened to me a while back. My friend was living with me for some time after getting kicked out of his house, and so, being the nice guy that I am, I let him set up his own user account on my computer and get online. One day I went into his account to do some cleaning (virus/adware scan, registry repair, etc.) when I noticed an auto-miner program icon on his desktop. Investigating further, I discovered that he'd dl'ed and installed the damned thing when I was asleep along with some other questionable programs, all of which I deleted. When I confronted him about it later, he said he couldn't figure out how to make it work (yeah, right) and that he was going to delete himself later. I thought about restricting his access then, but decided against it since I live in the sticks and there's really not much else to do besides watch movies and the Internet. I just made sure to keep a very close eye on his user account afterwards, which I'd suggest you do with your bro; you may have dodged a figurative bullet (Rune arrow?) this time, but there's no telling what he's going to get himself into next time. --Darg-- Part of the Star Traks network. July 17, 200619 yr You guys are being harsh on his little brother. He made a mistake. Give him a break.
July 17, 200619 yr I doubt it would have been a very dangerous keylogger-any well-trained hacker would be smarter then having there programme showing up in Add-remove programmes. But, that said, you where pretty close there. For now, just explain to your brother what not to download. If he downloaded a keylogger, who know's whats next... Currently going for 76 fishing
