  1. agreed, I think we can all agree that skills are harder to train to 99 on F2P than P2P. Edit: All the more reason why F2Pers are well deserving to have them. And I agree on the fact that I do not think this would affect the game one way or the other. I mean how could it, cept more people going around with capes. About the only effect I can foresee. The main reason I came back this time though was to ask why F2P can't have more ad sites like this one? Another edit: Yes, I am being sarcastic. But I strongly think this is a serious issue that should be addressed. It is one thing to put up with ads and click them. Hey, we are getting to play for free after all. But this is something we should not have to tolerate or put up with one bit. They could at least only allow advertisers who are on the level. The fact that Runescape would allow such advertising sites is in my opinion an issue that needs to be addressed and should not be tolerated one bit. I don't even think this is up to debate or discussion. If you believe otherwise, I reject your opinion and there is no discussion period.
  2. Well, we do have the cabbage teleport now. Best thing to ever happen for f2p fishing. Still not as convenient as fishing guild but it is f2p, so..... And if you are level three and can't get it, you really shouldn't complain in my opinion because you chose to handicap yourself like that in the first place, and there will always be certain things that will be more inconvenient for you. But hey, you chose that. I would like to add something after reading a locked thread. People really should quit talking about how much f2p does or does not pay without some kind of proof. If Jagex has stated exactly how much f2p contributes by clicking ads I am unaware of it. But to claim that f2p does or does not cover certain amount of costs on assumption is pretty ridiculous. Edit: I know for one I would like to see a placeholder for money. I mean who doesn't keep at least a little money in the bank. The reason I say this is I have been f2p the last several months, and it may be several more before I am a member again. So I have to play all this time without being able to accumulate any kind of wealth as far as actual coins is concerned.. I accidentally withdrew all my money, even with all the different withdraw options. And I am talking about several million here. Even if it counted towards your already alloted amount of spaces, I personally wouldn't mind. But that is because it is an issue that has personally affected me in the game. I would like to see something in place that if you have been p2p for any amount of time, you can put items back in the bank. Chances are most people that go f2p from p2p are gonna go back. If I had no plans to I wouldn't have all this member stuff still in my bank to begin with. I would have sold it before I knew my membership was going to run out. I accidentally withdrew a member potion yesterday. I had no intentions too, my pointer sporatically jumped on me as I clicked my mouse. Thank goodness it was just a potion. What if it had been something of real value, then I couldn't have even sold it or if it was some kind of armor even wear it just to have a place to hold it. I would have either just had to drop it or have a inventory spot filled all the time just to keep it. I am not so much saying more bank space as I am safe guards for mistakes like this. I know this has been said before, but it is something I would really like to see implemented.
  3. I plan on building a LFS system one day. This is the only issue I see with this as an answer. How tech savvy are you with Linux? This isn't really a good option unless you are pretty freakin savvy with Linux. At least that is my opinion. I am not saying you couldn't do it if you aren't really hip on Linux. But it certainly would be a fun project if you have the time and patience. And it would be a great learning experience. If you go that route, I for one would love to hear how your LFS project goes. Edit: Also, with LFS, you have to manually keep your system up to date. You also have to rebuild the entire distro if you ever want to update the kernel. You may not mind this. You may not even ever want to update the kernel once you get it working. But it is definitely what I would call labor intensive.
  4. Well, I had planned on re-installing my OS. I am awful when it comes to file organization and such and my hard drive was getting fairly full. I had been wanting to check out Intrepid (was currently using Hardy) so I just did a fresh install and killed two birds with one stone. Fixed my RS java issue and cleaned out my hard drive in one fell swoop. In other words, I fixed the problem, but did it in a way most wouldn't really want to do. So, I have no clue what the fix for the problem was, but it works fine now. Thanks for trying to help though. Edit: Just pointing out Dev, not saying in a bad or demeaning way. Iceweasel was a sure clue I was more than likely using Linux.
  5. I suppose it could be a number of different issues. One possibility could be your hard drive being to full I suppose. How large is your hard drive, and how full is it? Does it run if you leave it turned off for a while? Sometimes computers will collect to much dust on the inside and in the power supply causing them to overheat. If this is the problem, dusting it out with some canned air will more than likely fix it if that is the issue. If you do this though, do not spray it with the can turned upside down.
  6. The biggest question would be what do you want to use the computer for? Do you want it to be highly expandable and is it possible you may want to use it for applications you aren't using now. Or do you know what you need it for, and your needs more than likely never go beyond that. And I will definitely agree as to the power supply being overkill. Just because someone else uses something does not mean something else won't suit your needs perfectly. You could probably even go down to a 500w supply if you are like most average users. But don't take that as written in stone. You need to figure out what exactly your wants and needs are. No sense in being Tim Allen and spending more money for something you really don't need.
  7. I would just like to throw my two cents in. Not so much answering questions, but maybe someone will hear something that kinda helps. Linux is the only OS I use. I am by no means a Linux guru. I will say a few things about it. The next few statements will be facts and not opinions. Linux is a more stable OS. Linux makes better use of memory. Linux does not have the problems with viruses and spyware that plague MS OS's. These statements are opinions, some may be facts, but probably just opinion. Linux is easier to install. The people that say Windows is easier to install have probably never actually had to install it. They probably meant that they used a recovery disk to recover their computer which had the drivers already there for them. Try installing Vista from a full version install disk. Guess what, it doesn't have most of the drivers you may need. I personally find it much easier to find missing drivers for Linux than MS. I prefer Gnome desktop environment. They say KDE is better for Windows users trying to make a switch. I don't know? You won't have the desktop icons that come with a Window install, but these same equivilant places such as My Computer and Network Places are easily found in the menus. You can add icons to these places on your desktop if you prefer to have them there though. Linux is not Windows. It probably does have a steeper learning curve. I think most that take the time to learn it will more than likely stick with it as opposed to going back. If you install it and you have sound, cd player issues what have you, these issues can most likely be fixed. As long as you can get on the Internet you can get the packagages (files-drivers) you need to fix the issue. As I have heard somone say on this thread or maybe another one, ubuntu has fantastic forums. I have often solved my problems doing a search and not even having to post. I find that when I do post, people reply quickly to help. Usually within 20 minutes or less. I encourage anyone to give it a shot, and don't give up the first day just because everything does not work right. I would say if you can bear it to give it at least two weeks to a month to see if you can resolve all your issues. If you don't like it, go back. I strongly feel people that give it an honest effort will love it and stay with it. Probably common sense for most, but just thought I would mention it anyway. If you go onto a Linux forum looking for help, don't bash it. Most of the people that are there and willing to help are not getting anything in return for helping you. They don't care if you go back to Windows, no one is forcing you to use Linux. They don't tend to have a problem with you talking about Windows. They know there are a ton of people using Windows and trying to transition over. Good luck, and may you all come over from the evil forces of the dark side one day. :P Edit: I hear LinuxMint is a good distro for the noob too? I have only run it in VirtualBox OSE and didn't really mess with it that long. It is a distro based on Ubuntu which is a Debian based Linux distribution. I hear Mandriva and PCLinuxOS are pretty noob friendly too. openSUSE is supposed to be too. I used it several years ago. I personally won't use it, but that is another story. It is one to check out though if you want to check out Linux. You may play around with different distros too. Sometimes one distro may work better than another on your particular computer. I highly recommend Ubuntu. I use several different distros, and I find I love Ubuntu as far as just an everyday OS. Just because it is the most popular does not necessarily mean it is the distro for you. If you are starting out, I would definitely suggest you stay away from distros like Arch or Gentoo till you get the hang of it though. MEPIS is one I have heard mentioned that is supposed to be noob friendly. Never checked it out. Just relaying what I have heard.
  8. DSL would definitely be worth a try. But you could pretty much try any distro and maybe use Fluxbox as your desktop environment. Fluxbuntu is based on Ubuntu. The only problem might be is I am not sure they are very active at the moment as far as maintaining it? Pretty much any distro with either Xfce or Fluxbox for desktop environment might work well? If you are familiar with Linux already, I would suggest a distro you like and go with one of those two desktop environments and see how it works for you. Edit: You might give Xubuntu a spin as mentioned earlier. It is ubuntu with the Xfce desktop environment. Saves you the trouble of having to set it up yourself. And honestly, why not. Not like you are going to have to pay two or three hundred dollars to see if you like it or not. Another one, I have ran it off cd. Didn't mess around with it much either. I assume you can install it to hard drive. I am not gonna do all the research for you. But to quote from the website "Feather should be able to run on a 486 with 16Mb of RAM, but only in console (non-graphical) mode. To use X, 24Mb of RAM or more are required." Here is a link to the site for you. http://featherlinux.berlios.de/about.htm
  9. I have a problem, and not being a member, I can't post on RS forums. I have searched their forums though and can't find anything resembling my problem. Not sure if I should post this here, but I have a problem I would really like to resolve. Here is my problem. Lately whenever I try to play Runescape the bottom of the screen just under the ad banner goes completely white in my browser. It does it both in Firefox and Iceweasel browsers. I recently upgraded to the latest Java version. Not sure if that has anything to do with it, but it wasn't doing it before. I can still hear the game going on, if I am fishing, I can hear the splash sounds. The whole browser is just white space though except for the ad banner at the top. Thanks in advance for any possible help.
  10. I am playing an account with 1776 skill total at the moment, and it is not my main. I know about balanced characters. And I mentioned in an earlier post, I think most come on here to vent more than for an answer or to have their frustrations invalidated. What in the hell is so hard to understand about that? I know some come on here and go nuts and want to kick the dog and act crazy. I feel most just need to vent and don't need the debate. Most more than likely just need that venting on go about playing. If this was meant to be a debate, it would be in the debates thread. If you want to debate, look up thread in the debates forum. If Tip.it won't allow players to vent without a big debate, then they should do away with this forum topic altogether. I mean, hell, I can just go to the debates forum if that is what I am looking for.
  11. Yes, it is balanced if raw materials should cost more than a finished product. I still enjoy the game. I didn't come on here to start a debate about it. I put in my two cents worth. I hardly ever rant on here. I know it is old. But I wanted to say I think it is one way the game has changed for the worse. Yes you can still make money. You can play the market, or you can gather and sell. As far as being able to buy materials and make a product for profit, you can't do that anymore. Before the GE you could, now you can't. You cannot argue that point with me because you know it to be true. Edit: This is the main reason I don't post here much. The rants forum always get's turned into the debate fourm.
  12. And most people that rant are not really looking for a solution. Most, at least I realize certain things. Doesn't mean I like it. And I don't go around the game griping about things like some. Even if I agree, I find it annoying and to no purpose to go on the game and complain. To me, the rants board should be a place to let off the steam without someone saying you are wrong, or making the way you feel about something is not legitimate or invalidate. Although, original poster did bring up a fact that wasn't true. The 31 prayer point that is. And how was the economy before the GE not player driven? Maybe it is. It does go to show you how greed fails then. Because in the real world this type of economy would definitely reek of fail. And yes, I know it is a game and not the real world. It still makes no sense even if it is a game. And as far as game play goes, I live with it and continue to play. I don't come on here and cry and say I am going to quit because of it. The game, as real life has many things we may not like, but we either deal with it or quit. I have no plans to quit life. For now, I have no plans to quit RS at the moment. But you honestly tell me that the economy of RS is balanced, well...............
  13. Yes, you can still trade what you need to. But the fact is, the economy is for the most part completely turned upside down. I know this has been said before, but the title of this thread is a reason for my reply and this is one of the main reasons I agree with the title of this thread. Example: Even if you buy a diamond already cut at 2,514, you can only sell the made amulet at 2,495. That is if you mine the gold yourself, you still lose money. An enchanted amulet sells for 2,585. So if you still gather all the materials yourself, your profit is still very small. It is this way for most things now. I realize this is a game and not the real world. But if this happened in the real world the whole world would basically be a third world country. Since the GE, the Amulet of Power has decreased in value by about 75%. So yes, Jagex/Runescape has more or less changed for the worse in certain aspects. I still like the game and I still play it. I learn to accept the changes and just continue to do what I enjoy. But this is the rants forum. Being a moderator, why should you take the rants away when this is what this board is for.
  14. I would help out someone I didn't know if they were in a tough combat situation and they had combat skills. That is my point. I don't mind helping out, but I do if you purposely handicap yourself by purposely not training combat. I know some will disagree. I guess I should say that if you feel different that is fine. At the same time I think the way I feel about it is perfectly valid. And if you don't mind helping out a level three that gets attacked by a monster then that is perfectly valid. As I stated, it is my opinion on the matter.
  15. In my opinion, a true skiller works on all skills, not just certain skills. I have nothing against level threes that train certain skills to high levels without gainaing any combat experience. I have an account like that. I don't consider it a skiller account though. My skiller account is the one where I train all my skills. I don't go out of my way to help a level three because they find themselves in a tight spot either. I don't ask for help in a tight spot when I am on my level three account either. That is the point of being level three. To accomplish certain goals with no combat. The pride put into the hard work. So don't expect me to help you make things easier when you purposely choose to play that way. Takes away from why I am playing. I don't mind helping people out. But when you purposely handicap yourself I will not help you out. I am sure to some this makes sense? To the dense it won't. Just my opinion on the matter.
  16. You have always had to have 31 prayer to use the altar upstairs at the monestary. Personally. I could care less about real world trading. I don't do it, but if someone wants to spend real world money to advance in a game, so what. So they spent money to achieve what you or I played for. I do however don't want to see autoers. And it seems they are pretty much gone. I am sure there are still some around, but not to the extent that they were before recent updates. I can live with real world trading, if stopping it means changing the game drastically. I believe you can stop the autoers and not affect the game as greatly. One example is certain prayer book pages. Don't know if it is still this way but it was. Some pages only go for a couple hundred k. Yet players still demand around the mill mark for them. So we have junnk trading. This is one example of how GE fails. If players demand this amount of money for them, why doesn't the GE prices reflect that? Forcing junk trading.
  17. I don't mind having to pay repair costs either. I am f2p at the moment, but when I am on members, I use Barrows armor. You have to factor in the cost over time. Much cheaper to buy initially than Dragon, looks cooler and better stats. It may eventually end up costing you more, but the price is deferred over time. It is a lot of hours of combat before it approaches the price. I also use rune when I don't need Barrows. This helps as far as keeping the costs down.I have had idiots talk trash to me because I am level 100+ with rune. I think it is silly to see people wearing Barrows when they obviously do not need it. But I don't say anything to them. But if you only need rune, you only need rune. I don't wear things just to look cool all the time. I use what is sensible and does the job. Not necessarily. I use Torags all the time with Dragon weapons, whip, or Ivandis flail. The set effect really doesn't have much use against opponents that don't retreat. By the way. I hear rat droppings make it into our food at the processing plants too. Enjoy.
  18. Personally, I would just as soon get my defense to 70 before I could use Barrows then waste the money on Dragon. But that is just me. I suppose you could always sell your Dragon once you got 70. Besides the weapons, to me Dragon is just that, a waste of money, unless you sell it once you get to levels required for Barrows equipment. And I don't think it would really take that long to get from 67 defense to 70 would it? Not as long as it is gonna take for the Dragon plate body to come out anyway! :P
  19. I had a pure (hybrid) I trained for months. I was maging guards at Falador. I just logged in, this was before they made it where when you logged in, it remembered your fighting style. Doesn't take long to go from 1 to 2 defense. And yes, it caused me to gain a combat level. And I used the calculator to see if it would eventually null itself out and it never did. I was pissed. This happened around a year ago I guess. I was thinking there should be some way to get it taken away somehow. I mean it is quite obvious, if you have all these skills trained up, then you have only one combat skill at two, kinda obvious you really weren't trying to gain a level there. But it is much easier to avoid this type of mistake now. When it happened to me, it wasn't. Anywho, I seriously doubt Jagex really cares if we ruin our hard worked for pures by getting one combat level in a certain skill and will ever do anything about it. But I do feel your pain. It sucks working so hard on an account then a moment of ignorance ruins it all for you. But not really. Life will go on. I suppose.
  20. I have been thinking of playing this game before too long. I was worried about being a noob at it. Thing is, I can actually learn and try. I would suggest using these very boards to find a team of people who are serious and getting a group of players who are serious about earning the rewards together.
  21. Lol, I think I just saw an Ork milking a cow.
  22. I am in Zanaris. All of the sudden, I say "All of a sudden I have an overwhelming urge to dance!" I didn't say it or do anything, just walking along and out it pops from my mouth. Wtf is that all about?
  23. Awesome. I absolutely love it. Works like a champ on Firefox 3. Edit: I use Linux. Downloaded the file, then just clicked on Tools on browser, clicked on Add-ons, then I just dragged it into the add-ons box and it installed. That simple for anyone wondering.
  24. Won't work - agreed. That is like have a server that doesn't censor. People would be like ok, cool. Then next thing you know someone is upset because it is okay to say [bleep] but not [bleep].
  25. Why would you leave the computer while in the wild, knowing there is revenants. Last time I died was in the quest "Dealing with Scabaras" Though I really didn't, because I was wearing a "Ring of Life". Got him to submit the second time!
