  1. When you place it in that context yes. But in regards to the authors question (which is the purpose of the thread) and what I have answered, it is insignificant to what it was compared to. The cold war did bring about an age of rapid progress, however, you have to question whether the advances could only have been made in the pressure cooker that was the political climate of the time? Undoubtedly they sped up the development of the space program as this benefited the missile programs of both countries and as trickle effect computers the internet television and nuclear power were all developed in rapid time but have we not come further since then without the tensions of the cold war? I do agree that to dismiss the cold war without due recognition is improper but instead to remember it in the flow of history that spawned from it. I have answered the authors question if you wish to debate history, more than welcome, I have have msn and plenty of time up my sleeve.
  2. There are two reasons I don't agree with it. The first being, it's probably nicer to shoot the chicken in the head and get it over and done with rather than torturing it before it dies, whether you eat it afterward or not. The second being, I find it disgusting that people actually bet money on their suffering. I'd imagine it wouldn't taste very good if it's been pecked and scratched to shreds anyway, since the chicken was stressed it would probably be very tough meat. Gross  I like my chicken JUICY! :-#
  3. haha that's a good one and remember the more true adage that history is written by the victor (look at WWII for instance.) But yes the Cold war is really quite insignificant and I think comparing ideas on it detracts from the original post. The guy's history teacher sounds wacky, at least that's something we can both agree on.
  4. My writings aren't actually from any specific text book, it's an accumulation of many university level history text books combined with personal knowledge. My fiance' actually has a degree in teaching (like you) not many people know he was going to be a history teacher before he went to the army. The quote itself is from the text book I quoted, by "Vicki Greer & Robert Darlington" - Used by pretty much most of the Australian Tertiary education, hence it was the best title choice to quote for Drizzle. Technically, you are just looking at it from a different point of view. However, the technical definition of the cold war is the two different ideologies and paradigms trying to gain the upper hand, it then turned physical or "hot" in Korea, Malaysia and Vietnam to name a few.
  5. I have ps2, does anyone have rock band on it? How can I accept friends on it
  6. And just to annoy Adrenal  ... use fish oil capsules! It'll break the fats down in your body faster and gives you the energy you need to be motivated. A natural remedy that helps me is drinking hot water with lemon added to it, it cleanses your body and rids it of toxins. Green tea is good too apparently (haven't tried it).
  7. No worries, if you have a PO box it's yours for free. Usually cost around $50-$60, it's a proper year 12 history text book but very easy to understand so you can use it for all levels.
  8. Well... The cold war in itself is a useless term. During the time there was political tension as Russia and the US competed to be the world's only super power. Capitalistic America believed in free enterprise and the economy. Communist Russia basically believed in the people working for the state and that everyone would be treated equally. The western world basically viewed this as the most horrible thing possible as under Communism there is no upper class or lower class everyone is equal. During this time other countries like Korea and Vietnam had parts of their country (Generally the north funny enough join the communistic ideals). So in order to try and stop the spread of communism which was feared to be able to destroy the capitalistic paradigm we live in the Korean and Vietnam wars broke out. Calling these small conflicts great wars are foolish, technically they were not even wars. Sounds like this teacher is pushing personal opinion not true historical facts. My suggestion would be take a tape into class and record what he is saying and then approach a counsellor/faculty that are in a position to do something and ask of them how you can possibly be learning the correct things in history when he is speaking propagandist facts. I you want a really good book for history grab this one: "Flashpoints: National and International Studies" Germany 1918-1945, Russia and the Soviet Union 1917-1945, The Cold War 1945-1991, Indochina 1954-1979. Here's a quote from the text book:
  9. ^^ And eating plenty of short, healthy meals through-out the day. You don't want a crap metabolism if you're working out or there's no point. Although working out does increase your metabolism, you're better off helping it out.

    Reality...

And a brick wall is incredibly solid, however it really is just a bunch of matter frequency spinning around x times a second, forming the illusion of a solid form. This is the weird part. I'm just sending off the vibe of a lot of money. No specific amount, just a lot. And for some strange reason when I do it, I bump in to people who gave ideas to share with me, I come across many prospects for my business, I sign more people to my business, family members give us money cheques, my monthly cheque gets higher and higher, we're just constantly "accidentally" running in to more money opportunities. This could come down to many factors, all I know is that it works for me. And when I switch it off, I get nothing. Switch it back on, it flows again. Whether this is pseudoscience, science, psychology, thought pivoting, LOA, whatever you want to call it, it works. I gave the dvd to a mate of mine Johnny, who after watching it decided to go in to investments/stock marketing. I took no responsibility to what happened because he was taking a rather large gamble. He met the right people, he read the right information, he got the right feelings to cash in or stay in and ended up with a house, 2 cars and a block of land (owned). He got himself a husky pup and called it quits, cashed it in the day before it crashed. I also lent it to another mate of mine, Marek, who after watching it decided to go to university, met the right people at the right time and is now in the process of becoming a wildlife cinematographer and tornado chasing. Co-incidence? probably I'm not doubting it. All I know is it works. And if it works, I'll do it! [edit] I just remembered some people we know (who I won't mention names for privacy reasons) won the jackpot lotto by applying the same principles. No bull.
  11. Pessimistic people who try to take a swipe at you just because you don't believe the world is ending too. People who make excuses for themselves over stupid things and don't use their brain. "I don't have a resume so I can't look for a job" "So go and write one" "but I don't have a printer" "So go to the library then" "but I'm not a member" "so sign up? It doesn't cost you anything" "I don't have a license to get there" "So take the bus" "I don't have a bus timetable" "download one on the net" "I don't know the website" "so google it then" etc etc etc :wall:
  12. Hate news stories. Always want to know the whole story.... maybe I should do some more law :? It would be so much more interesting if you had a run down on their life, feelings, friends, conflicts, difficulties, upbringing.

    Today...

Yeah that pisses me off too. What did you lose? I've lost 2 ipods from when I was using QUT's library  My bubba boy is teething, his 2 front teeth are coming through and he's in a bit of pain :( so giving him plenty of cuddles in between his naps and panadol.

    Reality...

Since it's paying my bills and then some, I'll stick to it thanks :D It's actually not the thought alone that is the principle of the theory. It's the vibrational energy current that the thought triggers, if anything. That is real science. The theory that like energies attract more of that energy, is the theory. You can't just "think it" and attract it, the theory is that you need to create the vibrational frequency of having it now and it will show. And since everything is made from energy and gives off a frequency no matter how high or low, the theory is that it shall manifest. For example, if you give off the frequency of money (money is nothing but an energy frequency vibrating x times a second). And if you're talking in the sense of thought pivoting, then it just becomes a psychological fact instead. A thought can influence the overall outcome of your health. So if you want to get technical, your body is made up of a lot of water particles that are healing your body, that isn't pseudoscience either.

    Reality...

It's called "what the bleep do we know - down the rabbit hole" there is a sequel to it and if you enjoy those principles you may also like to read about eckhart tolle, wayne dyer, allan watts, "the secret", the quantum doctor, Q is for quantum physics. I've held this concept since I was about 10 years old (before I read any books - I was excited as I thought it was my idea :wall:) - vibrational frequencies that we send out etc it just makes sense to me. Want to know how I attract money? I put a $100.00 note in my pocket, walk around the mall and imagine what I can buy with that $100.00 and create the feeling of having several thousand dollars ;) and then for some reason, I always find myself in circumstances where I'm constantly receiving offers or ideas for making money. if you want a good book, PM me.
  16. My family (parents) - came from real lowest class, to upper class, to losing it all, back down to lowest class and then worked it's way to working class/ slowly making their way to middle class. Brent's family (parents) - come from upper class, they're in their early 40's, retired, never have to work again, own about 12 houses, breed race horses and pretty much help nobody in their family unless they're eating off the floor. Our family is getting to middle class/upper middle class. I don't agree with Barihawk's description so please don't apply it to that one.
  17. That makes more sense, if these were your only questions I was going to say, umm... what university teaches this exactly?? Seeing as you're looking for people with children you should try an online parenting forum? If you want mods to lock it, you should PM one or change your thread title to "mods please lock". Good luck

  19. Question 1 A. On a scale from 1 to 7 with 1 being "bad" and 7 being "good" how do you feel about leaving a parking space when no one is waiting for the spot? 7 7 Question 2 A. On a scale from 1 to 7 with 1 being "uncomfortable" and 7 being "comfortable" how do you feel about leaving a parking space when no one is waiting for the spot? 7 B. On a scale from 1 to 7 with 1 being "uncomfortable" and 7 being "comfortable" how do you feel about leaving a parking space when another car is waiting for the spot? 7 Question 3. A. On a scale from 1 to 7 with 1 being "anxious" and 7 being "calm" how do you feel about leaving a parking space when no one is waiting for the spot? 7 B. On a scale from 1 to 7 with 1 being "anxious" and 7 being "calm" how do you feel about leaving a parking space when another car is waiting for the spot? 7 Question 4. A. When leaving a parking spot, about how long on average do you think it takes from the moment you start the car to the moment the car completely leaves the parking space when someone is waiting for the space? As long as it takes, I don't care about what they want lol B. When leaving a parking spot, about how long on average do you think it takes from the moment you start the car to the moment your car completely leaves the parking space when someone is not waiting for the space? As long as it takes, I don't time myself. Question 5. A. If you have kids when leaving a parking spot, about how long on average do you think it takes from the moment you open the drivers door to the moment when your car completely leaves the parking space when someone is waiting for the space? As long as it takes, I don't time myself B. If you have kids when leaving a parking spot, about how long on average do you think it takes from the moment you open the drivers door to the moment when your car completely leaves the parking space when someone is not waiting for the space? As above Question 6. A. On a scale of 1 to 7, with 1 being distracted and 7 not being distracted, how distracted are you with kids in the car? 7 - My kid is good in the car and this question is flawed. You can't determine why the person is stressed and some kids behave better than others. B. On a scale of 1 to 7, with 1 being distracted and 7 being not distracted, how distracted are you without kids in the car? 7 You're welcome - I didn't read this until I finished the questions. No offense (I also studied psychology - one of my electives was road psychology) but I don't think your survey can accurately determine whether people are protective of public spaces when intruded upon. I don't think it is based on the theory of territoriality. People probably feel anxious because they have to perform pulling out of a car park in front of other people, perhaps they feel rushed. What's that got to do with territoriality? What if you have kids in the car that are distracting you? That also has nothing to do with territoriality, it's a distraction. Also take in to consideration that perhaps some people that you are surveying have anxiety and thus doesn't accurately measure anything at all in your survey. What about age? ethnic? gender? where's any of that in your survey? Some younger people probably take longer because they like to put their favourite cd in the player, where as an elderly person yet takes longer because they're slower or perhaps they're even disabled. You should also rephrase the questions in different ways to make sure people are giving you accurate answers that won't throw off your results  Good luck with it though, I hope there's more to your study :)

    Reality...

If reality could slap me in the face, my face would be pretty swollen  Going from living off marked down 50 cent bread to living in a 4 bedroom house and being able to go away to places all over the world such as Fiji in August. Studying psychology, only to never land a career in it anyway. Nearly losing my brother to relapsing polychrondritis. Nearly losing my mother 4 different times, gallstones, pancreas difficulties, missed gallstones and a mini stroke. Having to go to every single one of my best friend's funerals. I'm cursed! Every best friend I have, dies. Learning that you don't need to go to university to earn a lot of money. Being told your partner can't have children, only to give birth anyway. Add another million and one things but they're the most recent one's.
  21. I was born in Adelaide, grew up in Victor harbour, then moved to Darwin. When I was about 15, moved to Brisbane, then went back to Adelaide, came back to Brisbane, lived in Melbourne, came back to Brisbane and have been here ever since. I've travelled everywhere in Australia though, other than W.A.

    Today...

 If you feel like venting again, inbox is welcome for flooding. Thinking whether to get a really, super, duper, nice house and getting someone else down the end to share in some rent because there's not many nice houses around at the moment. Anyone in Brisbane looking to move out? :P you just need your own bedroom gear (bed, drawers etc) other than that the house is fully furnished, you have access to cooking utensils, washing machine, dryer, tv etc I'm being serious btw :P you just need to be able to clean up after yourself (hang your towels up in the bathroom/do some dishes) I don't mind cooking or washing your clothes and you must have a stable income.
