I don't think anyone's saying it's worth having them legal because of the revenue, but that it's unlikely that they'll be made illegal because of that reason. And everyone puts a price on human life, some are just less ashamed about it than others.

Agreed. Kind of pointless imo. If anything, this would show how much someone doesn't read, but that they just want to seem smart.

I take it you've never been in a bar where/when smoking was legal. It can get unimaginably thick, to the point where it seems like it's almost possible to cut through it. It's absolutely disgusting not to mention the health/fire hazards and that it completely wrecks your clothes. Anyway, I don't really see smoking being banned completely, at least in the US, what with the tobacco lobbyists and the insane amounts of tax revenue it generates.

Why shouldn't women get maternity leave? Why should I pay for an employee who is giving me no work? [/hide] Because it's cheaper than training a brand new employee? Not really necessarily, plus a male employee wouldn't present this problem to begin with. I know allot of companies that now give preference to male applicants because of the new maternity laws. It was allot more equal before someone decided they wanted "more" and now most women are disadvantaged as a result. Fathers can go on paternity leave, ya know. Also, not every woman wants kids. Our society is changing and becoming a parent isn't the most important thing anymore.

I was pointing out the irony that these people are the same type who try to "cure" homosexuality and are stopping gays from marrying because it's "wrong" and she's saying that they don't want others to cram unwanted and personal beliefs down their throats. So thick you could cut it with a knife. What part of the Constitution did that come from?

That's why this thread seemed so familiar. A while ago there was one about killing 10k people or your family or something. So morbid... Yea you can live without kidneys, but one could still argue that being on dialysis would still be "cheating." And the destiny vs. choice argument is exactly why my mind wrestles with the idea so much. Personally, I believe very strongly in destiny and fate and if something did happen that I needed a transplant, I would forgo it. However, most others don't share these feelings and I'm not incredibly articulate on the subject, so it's difficult to accurately portray my own feelings.

That's a good way of putting it. I mean, there are differences when it comes to religion, race, and gender but it doesn't make anybody any more or less "human" than the next person. The problem is that different people draw the line at different places. How equal can you say things really are when the man pays for the lady's dinner, holds doors open for her, etc.? Ah, I'm glad I'm not the only one with this thinking. I've gotten in several arguments with my friends because they want equal treatment for women, but only when it's in their favor. They want the same pay and equal consideration for promotions as men, but they still think men should always pay for dinner. Being equal isn't all lollipops and rainbows, it'll come with a lot of [cabbage], too. Women shouldn't automatically gain custody of children in divorces, they should be able to be drafted, "battered-woman syndrome" should be thrown out, etc.

I think people need to realize that they aren't fighting for/against gay marriage; it's essentially equality, not just for gays, but for everyone. When they say gays shouldn't be able to marry they're saying interracial couples shouldn't be allowed to marry, that whites and blacks should be segregated, that one group is better (and therefore deserves more rights) than another. It'll be a beautiful day when humanity realizes this.

I actually think it's more a way of cheating Death. If someones kidneys had failed (through no fault of their own, purely a genetic disorder) and they received a donated kidney and survive, they're living on borrowed time. They basically gave Death the finger and a nice, big '[bleep] you.' They shouldn't be alive, the only reason they are is because surgeons stepped in and removed their future cause of death. I don't know if that came across quite the way I wanted it to; it's kind of hard to explain.

I would like to think that I'd switch the train, but depending on who was in the 1 or 5, I might be swayed one way. As to the hospital scenario, I would let the 1 person live, but I don't exactly agree with organ transplants and stuff like that anyway. Playing God isn't for humans.

You kidding? Most gay guys have more female friends than male ones. There's a difference between a gay guy having girl friends and girl friends turning a guy gay. At first I thought you were kidding, but it doesn't seem like that now. You can't "turn" gay any more than you can "turn" straight.
