  1. In 2008 I was totally against jagex because of those updates, but now I've come to realize that the wilderness update was actually one of the biggest improvements the game has ever seen since castle wars. I like to think of it like this: Imagine if jagex had just ignored RWT. What would runescape be like now? No doubt RWT would be much bigger, and I imagine that the game would be a lot cheaper: only the rich people in real life would be the richest ones in the game, which is not right. Now imagine if they suddenly dropped the trade limit and all those things that stopped RTW right now. Would that really make runescape better? I don't think I have to explain. All the real pkers are gone. Even if they did bring the original wilderness back there would just be coward pkers. Two years ago I would have said jagex would never get rid of free trade. Today, I say it is a necessary improvement. I have come to accept it; it immediately eliminated 100% of all big item scammers, and it hit RWT very hard (RWT is actually still alive today, but most of the sites are scam sites. ;) ). Good Job Jagex.
  2. Oh so now he's Saint Andrew! I didn't know they worshipped him that much. Yes, I know it's just the street name
  3. No it isn't. This is what a merchant clan is today: It is run by one or many leaders, usually rich. The leaders order all their members in the cc to buy out an item. All the members start buying as much as item x as they can at max price. After the price starts rising, the clan chat goes crazy with people screaming "dump now everyone!!!" or "wait you ****ing idiots, don't dump." This goes on for x amount of days until everyone gets so nervous they dump item x way too early. Suddenly the price plummets: very few people make profit, and many, many people lose money. The leaders leave the clan oblivious to the true dumping price of item x on purpose... so they can make a profit quickly and move on to the next item. After a round of item x manipulation, a few people quit out of frustration and a few more suckers join the clan, only to be scammed the next round. It's a cycle, over and over. The theory that is suggested would involve a merchant clan that may not exist: One whose members have 100% loyalty and are extremely rich (in order to buy out ALL of item x), and don't panic like little school children when prices start to rise.
  4. Yes that would make sence since they just banned all those people. Iddison finally broke. Couldn't stand the pressure so he decided to abuse bugs. Sigh.
  5. You've got it right that their position on these merchant clans is blurry. Sometimes I hear of Jmods coming into big manipulator ccs and asking them to stop, other times I hear of Pmods actualy in the manipulator clans. Also, it's strange how some Fmods seem to hate the merchant clans and some Fmods believe they are legitiment.
  6. Well it is a good theory but it would be very hard to do. First, you would need an extremely rich group of players... not easy to come by. Then you have to convince them to work together. Making sure they are 100% loyal to the plan is hard too. It is just way too risky. One member might think he is not getting his fair share, and might dump before the item reaches the specified price. You're also forgetting about the consumers/poorer merchanters. While there are some players in runescape who are extremely wealthy, they only make up a small percentage of the population. The other less wealthy, the consumers who might do some low merchanting themselves, can totally out-do any plan the wealthy merchants try. The fact is these poorer merchants have tons more money combined... and although they don't organise like those big manipulator clans, they basically control the market. Supply and demand... if an item goes down in price the poor will buy a lot of it because they can afford it suddenly. If the price goes up, the poor cannot afford it, lowering demand, and hurting chance of manipulation.
  7. What? No putting on full bandos and commiting suicide in w1 GE? I always get a kick out of that. *Drink digsite potion* *15 damage* Ahhh ghosts are attacking me!!
  8. Apparently you haven't payed attention to the prices of PartyHats the past year.
  9. Ah this is one of the few topics I liked to see bumped every now and then. Every other old topic bumped is something like zezima's wedding or the exclusive zezima interview or noobs say the funniest things.
  10. Firewall. Now that I've said that, I actually like hearing hacked stories. I'm glad that you got your account back. I was hacked 2 years ago when I got my first mil, some crazy no-life had fun playing with me. The first time he simply hacked me, and I had no idea what a firewall was. Surprisingly, all he dropped was my 1M, but I had sold a lot of stuff to get that, so I didn't have much left. After I got over the shock, I quickly researched how to stop hackers and figured out what a firewall did, and got one. Oh... I thought I was safe, but NO, my stupid 15 year old brain had to fall for the same hacker's trick again. He got some account named 'jgx monitor 23' or something (without a crown, of course), and explained that he was some secret service jagex employee and that he feared my account had been hacked. Apparently, to check if I had been hacked, he had to get on my account, and to do that he needed my password. Well, the stupid kid I was back then, I gave him my password and next thing you know I log out, log back in 5 minutes later, and all my stuff, except 5 flax, and 1 coin, is GONE. Ahh... I remember despartely searching all around falador for my items, thinking that perhaps they were still there if he dropped them, and I remember asking everyone in the world if the hacker had handed my items to them. Never found anything. I figured he teleported to some desolate location and dumped everything. Luckily I recovered again and my bank value is now worth over 80M. :)
  11. That's absolutely right. Jagex doesn't care at all for F2Pers, it's the hard truth. They may pretend all the f2p updates are for their non-paying players, but in reality those updates are just there to get f2pers more interested in runescape, so that there is a higher chance they will become members. F2Pers are only potential P2Pers in jagex's eyes. I dare anyone to question what I have just said... I'll prove you wrong.
  12. Who cares about quests. DEATH TO RANDOMS!
  13. Sheesh. Geoff couldn't stand the community 2 years. Makes me respect Andrew now for running runescape for all those years before him. I'll always remember Andrew as the founder. I still haven't accepted the fact that he gave up leadership 18 months ago. Perhaps this new guy will do something about these crap minigames and merchant problems. Those are really the only two things I hate about runescape now; I've learned to accept the Dec 2007 changes.
  14. Hmph you know I don't really care for this new generation of runescape players who can't even do a quest without looking at the quest guide. A true quester would only look at quest guides if he is stuck; any other time it's more challenging and fun to do it yourself. I did WGS without looking a quest guide, and it was a very fun experience. Finished it th second day of release.
  15. And then it suddenly dawned on you that his account is Free2Play. None of that fancy stuff you're talking about, multiple training places? I say not. High level monsters with good drops? I say not. As CampbellMC said, this could be gotten in less than a day. 0/10. I am well aware he is f2p. But he's going to become a member eventually. There's no advise you can give anyone being f2p: all you can really do is try to merchant or try to pk. Members have a lot more opportunities, obviously, so I gave him my advise he could use when he turns member. And if he doesn't go p2p, then who cares? I just slapped down some advise that might help some other new p2p'er lingering around these boards. maysam- Don't make topics here. You don't know better because you are new, but the Rate this! forum is full of people with a lot of hate in their life just trying to put anyone down they can. Two years ago the people here were a lot nicer. Note the first three posts on this topic: that is when it was in the general board. The minute it got moved to Rate this! it immediately started collecting very negative comments. See the difference?
  16. Jagex is pretty good at keeping traditions so I wouldn't doubt there will be an epic quest. Note I said epic and not hard. It doesn't necessarily have to be hard. Recipe for disaster was not hard, but it was truly epic. Legends quest was not hard, but it was epic as well (at that time, what would have been more amazing than to gain access to the strongest guild?). Dream mentor was hard: that actually required some serious concentration and careful picking of equipment best suited for that battle. I'm not saying I don't want a hard quest, infact that would be GREAT! Hard + epic + high stat requirements = sweet quest.
  17. Best quote of 2008. It 2009, and the best quote is in my siggy. On toppic: I suppose w1 and 2 grand exchange are a sad replicas of the glory that falador and varrok were. Does anyone know why falador became the place for members and varrok the place for ftp? I'm aware of that. ;) I said 2008 because that was the year where all the rs veterans and the kids got in a fight over the game... none of that skiller vs. pker bs, it was just little kids and teenagers bickering on and on. 2009 just started, and nobody knows what it's going to bring. Oh and a brief story of how w1 started: WAAAY back then, there were very few powerful merchants, and they all knew eachother because of that. One day they decided to make a spot where they could sell their partyhats and such, all in one group, and they chose Falador park. Eventually they attracted other merchants, whom sold not only rares, but armor, weapons, and food, and soon the whole park was filled with merchants (and scammers) making dozens of trades each day and screaming at the top of their lungs. And thus w1 was born. In my opinion W1 is one of the greatest player achievements in runescape.
  18. World 1... only a memory now  I remember when you could go to falador and think of anything you wanted, and some guy would have it in that park. Best quote of 2008.
  19. Is this your first account? Well even if it isn't I'm going to offer you some advise: It looks like you like melee combat, and also favor prayer. From your fishing and cooking level it also looks like you sell your fish. I could be totally wrong but: Keep training those melee stats. There are hundreds of great training grounds for melee, you just have to look at some guides, or perhaps explore around runescape yourself. Your eventual aim is to get into the Warrior's guild, where not only can you get the rune defender, but the guild is also a great place to train. For training: Buy very cheap food, you aren't looking to buy that fancy 10+ healing stuff. For fighting high level monsters: Buy better food, 12+ healing. As for your method of money making: If you'd like to stick with fishing, go ahead. Just realize that fishing is a little below average on the profit-per-hour scale. You'll probably get better money killing high level monsters and selling their drops. I would say your ultimate goal would be to be a GWD fighter. If you really like training melee stats, you will do well as either a tank or a regular when you fight those GWD bosses. Oh and DO NOT neglect your magic and range. Although you may not like shooting a bow or casting spells, the two other sides of the combat triangle will help you in defense against range and magic attacks from other players/NPCs.
  20. Ingame versions of boardgames can be found at Burthrope Games Room Clan support is arguable complete with clan chats and lootshare
  21. I'll start by unloading the obvious answer: If I could go back in time, I'd tell myself not to even visit runescape.com. :P Serious answer: I actually started the game two weeks before santa hats were released. At the time I was too busy exploring the whole of Gleinor to worry about some silly worthless hats. If I could go back in time, I would a) slap myself for being such an idiot B) grab thousands of santas.
  22. Nice outline. I especially like the tree so far. Just one suggestion: enlarge the had just a bit.
  23. I just finished the foreground of a signature I am working on. I am now working on the background. Since I'm halfway through I though I might post the work-in-progress.
  24. halo2proman is basically right. Tip.it is just a sweet little monster that swallows everything whole. You can please the monster by spamming his general board. :) Just kidding. I always love to see new members who aren't porn bots. :P
  25. Okay first thing: you can make a topic without bragging. Now on topic: This may sound odd but I think Runescape seconds are wacked up. seriously, they seem to go by a lot faster than real seconds. So when jagex says "5 minutes," they could mean something even as short as "2.5 minutes."
