Nervous about prices?
The merchants... Jagex never got rid of scamming (item scamming, RTW, etc.), people just found a different way to scam people: price manipulation. This became a big issue in late 2008 and now it is growing even worse. Jagex must do something about it soon. I hate it that I can buy a zgs today at say 30M, then next week it's 20M and I can't sell it. There needs to be stricter price controls. Jagex needs to crack down on these groups of price manipulations and either disperse them by destroying their clan chats or putting in rules in the GE to make sure an item isn't riding price waves up and down the majority of the time. Rich merchants are profiting while the prices of our everyday items are going nuts. The structure of the GE invited this. Jagex did not think this over. The GE allows anyone to view the average price of any tradable item, a tool which should have never been given to the public. Before the GE price manipulation was far less profitable and less practiced. The only major price manipulation before the GE (besides other rares) were the half wine [bleep]es, and that was done when practically every merchant knew each other. The trick is to discourage these groups of price manipulators by disallowing the public to view prices. As I said this needs to be fixed before it gets out of control (and it's pretty out of control now, more and more price manipulation groups are popping up all over the place).

Acheivment Diaries: what they have to offer + future diaries
Most of the rewards are not worth it until you get to level 3. That is why when I start I diary I make sure I can do every single task before I start. I've completed all the achievement diaries. I would do them even if the rewards were bad, they let me explore areas I once ignored and perhaps come across features in the game that I never knew about. For example, I never had figured out what the coal trucks did in Seers, but the diary helped me find that out. Karmaja - tele to shilo Lumbridge - tele to farming patch Varrock - not into the staff thing that much, but you get access to the closest furnace to a bank in the game Falador - prayer recharge is really nice Seers - will probably use excalibur sometime Fremmy - Free teleport to Relekka (finally I could change my house to yanille without losing a fremmy teleport)

Wow, phishers really do send out e-mails!
Usually you can find at least one obvious spelling/grammar mistake in the message, which jagex would never do (they use a spell checker every time, and I'm sure read over and revise all their messages/update announcements). This message fails to contain an error but it is still very suspicious. Just the way it is worded... I have never heard any Jagex mod talk like that. All the update announcements have a certain wording to them, and that message just doesn't fit. Oh and also I don't think a Runescape high definition 2 beta exists yet. ;) I know it's obvious this is a scam, but for all those newbies out there: JAGEX WILL NEVER EMAIL YOU, ONLY CONTACT YOU INGAME VIA THE RUNESCAPE WEBSITE MESSAGING SYSTEM.

Major tweaks needed for 2009-list
How about you update your randoms tweak to say: Get rid of all teleportation randoms when fighting monsters/players. Oh yes... and all the long dialouge randoms. -While running if you click you run back and than start running again. I'm pretty sure they said a few years/months ago that this was a very hard glitch to fix.

A Year of Summoning: A year in review.
Yes I was initially shocked when Summoning first came out. Jagex has always been known to devote tons of effort to developing new skills. The best updates to runescape are new skill updates because jagex takes so much time perfecting them. Some would argue farming was flawed, perhaps even boring when it first came out. I disagree; players at the time were not used to a patient skill, and I'm very glad jagex introduced something like that. Sometimes when things go by so fast in runescape, you just want to settle down and farm. However Summoning looked liked it hadn't been thought out at all. I almost lost confidence in jagex; how could you trust them with regular updates if they could not even get a new skill update right? Luckily they realized their mistakes quickly and fixed them, instead of being the sometimes-stubborn blokes they are. You know back in late 2008 I was a true jagex-hater. It appeared with the RWT updates jagex had destroyed both skilling and pking. What was worst of all, some RWT managed to survive. I was furious at jagex; I joined in on rant threads and flamed jagex for their wrongdoing. But now I see my mistake- I was just acting like a cranky old grampa who had had the world change around him in the blink of an eye. I settled now and tried to think: the new generation of players who joined after the RWT updates would have had no taste of the original runescape, and would therefore have nothing to miss. So I decided to join this new generation of players (for after all, I'm not a grampa IRL) and act like runescape just opened up Jan 2, 2008.

Lifetime Subscriptions?
LOL Not one person has fully quit runescape, I can garantee you that. Something draws you back. Even with people who have been absent for years will eventually get that runescape itch in the back of their head.

Flawed Fishing XP?
Sorry I don't know where you got 40k for monks. I'm 96 fishing and I can just barely get 30k per hour. Not saying monks are bad... I love them because of the good exp and good profit.

Bad word choice by Jagex?
You guys do know that this kind of stuff happens in the RSOF every day right? If you think this niggle uproar was something big, it's nothing compared to what the RSOF delivers on a daily basis.
-
When did it happen?
Runescape grew in popularity. More people in f2p = more f2p slaves to gather raw materials for members. Also, rise in autoers in late 2005 helped bring raw materials down. Low prices on raw materials make p2p skillers want to skill to earn more profit. Lots of p2p skillers making finished products = drop in price of finished products. Demand of combat items (most made by skillers) also dropped in late 2007 (December 10). Price of raw materials shot up in early 2008 because of the sudden drop in autoers. Drop in price of finished products sent high level p2pers in early 2008 to either kill bosses or merchant for big money. Rise in popularity of merchanting in early 2008 and summer 2008 brought tons of merchants to GE. New wave of merchants together formed groups and abused the stability of the GE, thus making skilling even more unpopular with uncontrollable prices of finished products and raw materials dropping and rising suddenly.

I HATE CONTRUCTION
Holy [cabbage] well said. I absolutely hate this newer generation of rs players who fail to realize that this is just a GAME. You aren't supposed to save money like real life, you're supposed to spend it like crazy. Construction is one of the greatest skills ever because it appeals to that human need to spend. I've "wasted" over 30M on my house (and that's not including leveling my con level), and I am proud of it. Gilded altar and workshop right next to portal, huge dungeon, awesome throne room, flame pits, combat ring... so much more. People have spent dozens of hours in my house and just seeing them enjoy it makes me happy. Oh and some benefits of construction: [*:u5yfbl81]Gilded altar - well worth 1.2M considering the fast and almost free prayer exp. [*:u5yfbl81]Teleports - eventually saves you thousands of runes and saves you time recharging glories. [*:u5yfbl81]Workshop - saves you hundreds of thousands on barrows repairs. [*:u5yfbl81]Costume room - saves you dozens of slots of bank space. [*:u5yfbl81]Teletabs - opens up a profitable new method.

State of the community
No offence, but can we start thinking up more oriniginal topics for general discussion? This issue of immaturity has been around these forums for years. Everyone knows there are immature kids, there is really nothing to discuss. You just have to deal with them and be glad you have mature friends.

Got any runescape rumors with humor?
I have a bunch... some of them are true. See if you can guess which ones. To get in the secret guthix team in castle wars, you had to wear a guthix item and enter through the guthix portal. Burnt items are rare and worth millions. Santa is hiding on one of the ice mountains and if you find him he gives you a party hat. Going into the highest level wilderness and doing the dance emote will get you 50k (I did this with a f2p myself and he actually did it). Another wilderness one: Bring all your most valuable items and a piece of dark clothing to the dark wizards in the wilderness and they will reward you. Runehq sucks. Drinking an antipoison twice will re-poison you. Wear full range 3rd age, then go to the ice plateau in the wilderness, and a trapdoor will appear. If you go down this trapdoor you will come to a room which contains level 555 white dragons to kill for white d'hide. (I actually just heard this two weeks ago). "Zezima is getting married!!!!" - overheard from several people in Seers village near the yews.

Lowest Level to Complete Grandmaster Quest?
I was extremely dissapointed about the easiness of the boss. I swear, there are probably dozens of 85s still out there with qp capes. It's just ridiculous. You shouldn't have completed a "grand master" quest and be 85.

One year has passed !
A mass gathering of people are either two things: MSSWs or riots. Since this isn't MSSW5, it's going to turn into a riot, I can almost garantee you. Ranters take advantage of these huge crowds and get them to do all these wild things to their favor. All it takes are a few jagex haters in the crowd to start a huge anti-jagex fest. I have mixed feelings to jagex myself right now. I don't think they've made the best decisions, but I am surprised because I thought runescape would be in a worse shape today.

dragon claw's
Okay... the rich people don't intentionally want to 'hurt' the less rich. They don't buy at outrageous prices becaues they want to make sure the poor will never get it, they buy for that much because of two factors: large demand and small supply. Hey, I would love to pay 180k for dragon claws, but since there are so few in the game and everyone wants a set people are selling them for millions.

Problem with quest still not fixed
I am aware of that however I don't think quests should have anything to do with merchanting. I'll probalby lose a few hundred thousand gp just because of the unstable price for the set now.

Problem with quest still not fixed
On the day of release of While Guthix Sleeps, dozens of glitches were found throughout the quest. More than there should be. Among these was a very nasty problem that made many players literally stuck on the quest. During the part where you have to kill the three elite black knights, and get the armor sets, some players would drop the armor thinking it was worthless(and it didn't mention keeping it anywhere in the ingame quest guide). Players did not know how much these sets were worth and did not know how much they would suffer for dropping them. The *only* way to get your black elite back right now is buying it, and it is impossible to buy at max in the GE right now. Some have said that killing more elites will get you your missing armor, yet I have killed well over 120 of these guys, including over 50 rangers/warriors/mages, and have not recieved a single armor drop. I killed so many, infact, that my crystal bow completely degraded and I became a White Knight Master in the process. If you tell me that's not enough, then I dare you to try it yourself. I stayed up to 3 in the morning trying to get that armor. And by the way, their drops are terrible. And now the fastest way to get black elite is to pay 5M for it (YES, 5 MILLION) for a single set using junk trading. I'm well aware of the reward of the quest, but would you like to lose 5 million of it just to complete one little segment in the quest? The simplest solution to this problem: Make black elite lendable. Problem solved. Funny that didn't happen with the system update this morning. I guess jagex didn't take notice of the hundreds of threads in the quest/rant forums about this problem.

26th November 2008 - While Guthix Sleeps
There are tons of glitches and bugs... it's pissing me off. Jagex doesn't even bother to test the damn quest. Just look in the black knight's dungeon, a whole bridge is missing. How the hell do you miss that jagex? I am now STUCK in this quest because of this third glitch I have found. The elites have stopped dropping helms... so I have a plate and legs, but no helm. I've killed over 50 of them... no helm. Jesus christ. I was looking foward to that 10M reward TODAY. Thanks jagex.

Retired player - review of my years
About late summer Runescape started to get boring to me. I won't go into details, I just started to slip in and out, sometimes wondering why I was even playing. Anyway, since I am now 90% retired, I'd thought I'd share my legacy. It's a bit long, but I think you'll find it interesting. A little about me: I am a political man. I can't just play a MMO, I have to argue with people, talk with them, arouse some talk in fansites, etc. This is true for all the MMOs I have played. It's like a disease almost. The first year of Runecsape was sort of a joke compared to my later years. I didn't really do anything. I had fun with my friends, now long retired. In 2005, the wilderness existed and there was no ditch. So we had fun tricking eachother to go into the wilderness and then we would kill eachother. But we would always return the stuff to the victim. Sort of a primitive form of luring I suppose. Luring already existed though, and people were raking in hundreds of millions each day in the business. The later years I got more involved in tip.it, and loved to argue on the general board. Tip.it was a sweet place back then, none of the whiners today (about 2007 it started degrading, if any of yall are curious). At some time I eagerly joined CTET, Clan Tip.it Events Team, and held the leader position for two terms (a year). After that I sort of needed a break on politics and spent the rest of my days training my summoning and fishing. My achievements: [*:w19w23oh]I founded the World 70 Company, a ZMI company, which jagex recognized as an official world. [*:w19w23oh]I have slain well over 5000 dragons of all types, all visage droppers. I have received 2 visages, one from a black, one from an iron. I have also received 9 dragon legs and 6 skirts. I will tell you now: The most wonderful feeling in runescape is seeing that visage lying on the ground there. You have achieved something impossible all my yourself- no teammates or anything. [*:w19w23oh]I was one of the three major supporters of cook-x, and jagex eventually recognized our plead. I regret it because cooking is now easier than ever. [*:w19w23oh]I first got my questcape, then my fletching cape, and shot for the fishing and cooking cape, but stopped halfway through 96 on both. I was very well known as the world 78 fisher at piscatoris back in those days. [*:w19w23oh]I have hosted over 30 various events, both for my clan and just doing it solo. [*:w19w23oh]I have attended all four MSSWs, something that is rarely claimed, and do plan on attending future ones. [*:w19w23oh]See the Questionnaires forum in the General board? That was my idea. My goals/stats: Void range for my love of ranging. The cash pile is mostly a result of merchanting, visage drops, and bank cleanouts, from time to time. The black flowers are very important to me; they are the oldest item in my bank. Not even my coins, which I have had 0 of many times, have outlasted them. I believe I bought them on my first day of membership, which was over 2.5 years ago. The money banner, which cost 500k, represents my love for money... and spending it. I loved quests and achievement dairies, and I have mastered both shown by the three corresponding items. I have a house worth about 30M. I have probably re-done my house five times now, each time spending millions on it. I like my current house now, but 99 construction has always been my dream. All my stats are 70+, a proud goal of mine. Now what the heck do "retired" people do when they feel like playing a little Runescape? Why cwars of course! How do you think people get insane numbers of cwars tickets in the thousands anyway? Now I've got 71.1M to spend on ice bursts... oh I may even get 94 magic on the way, haha.

runescape=dumb?
And that's partly why I went to Travian. Despite it's silly, child-like graphics, it is an extremely good game where your personality determines your chances of survival. A LOT more mature than Runescape and WOW.

True origin of the Jagex name and logo
I still remember playing their first games, especially that game where you're a helicopter/plane and you are going through all these rocks and slopes you have to dodge while shooting enemies. Kind of odd, I also started a classic account back then but got frustrated and quit before completing the tutorial. Back then, players had to wait in line to talk to the NPCs, so as you can imagine I was stuck behind 20 people, and when I tried to click on him, it always said "It isn't your turn yet." A few months later they fixed that and I eventually got past the tutorial. I remember having fun with the 'follow' option and following this random woman around with a wizard's hat asking her for money.

The Offical TIF American Elections thread
The crowd in McCain's speech were a lot more angry than McCain himself haha. I was just expecting all those crazy drunk teens to wreck the stage and riot on the streets. XD

The Offical TIF American Elections thread
Yes as said this is a beautiful moment in American history. It has truly shown how America, once split in two in war by racial issues, has changed over the past 100+ years regarding the issue of racism. Good job Obama. Good job. Huge moment in history. I'm so glad I am alive on this earth to witness this event.

Obama won. Watching McCain's congratulatory speech now.
