  1. Even if JaGeX close shop tomorrow, RuneScape would have had a good run. Remember, this game started its life competing against the likes of Asheron's Call and Dark Age of Camelot, yet ends up spending majority of it as the #2 subscription-based MMO in the world, second only to WoW. The market is changing and the subscription-based model is dying out. Even the juggernaut Blizzard couldn't stop WoW from bleeding half its subscribers in the past year. They even gave up, junked, and restart their new MMO project, Titan, to redo it as a micro-transaction based game. So enjoy the run while you still can. Personally, I think JaGeX still is guiding RuneScape in the right direction. Even if it doesn't end up saving the game, their guidance should at least give it another couple of years of life left. I'm hazarded to say that most people that say "XXX update are ruining the game" are simply trying to rationalize why they have stop enjoying it as much as they had. No game lasts forever; nor should games be played forever; It is old. Even if the developer didn't misstep, Runescape will still decline, simply because tastes has shifted, the world has changes, and the players are getting older.
  2. What Pingouin7 said. Any bleed-type of ability damage gets none of the bonus from Turmoil or +8 damage from boosted stats. I am not sure about other boosts, like that from slayer mask, though. By the way, the most reliable way to check for damage bonus is wearing high critical gears and write down your critical hits.
  3. Crafting xp can be profitable with Super Glassmake. According to Wikia, it's 28k magic, 47k crafting, plus 702k profit a hour. http://runescape.wik...Superglass_Make
  4. You have everything on your desk perfectly in order as you settle down to play the new bacon quest. You finished fattening up Mr. Hamlet and constructing the Pig Machine. You breezes through rest of the dialogue, and finally reaches the Quest Reward screen.<p> Then it hits you. This is the pinnacle. This is the best that RuneScape has to offer for me. Everything I've dreamed and accomplished until now has led up to this one moment of ecstasy. Nothing will be the same. Nothing can compare. While bossing, you just remember the bacon. Unlocking PoP, you remember the bacon. When you finish TWW, the bacon. Quest Cape, unlocking pincer, max cape, trimmed Completist, EVERYTHING.The bacon. Only the bacon. Forever the bacon.
  5. You need 80 Ranged and 70 Smithing to brandish the Royal Crossbow, so not yet. Otherwise, you should able to survive the exercise after some practice.
  6. It took just under two months from unlocking, but I finally made my first PoP armour - a Superior Sea Singer Hood!
  7. From my experience Monkey Knife Fighters are faster, since you can loot twice per knock-out. I timed around 180k/hr at PP and 240k/hr at MKF. However, MKF is a lot more monotonous and very strenuous on your wrist. I wouldn't recommend doing more than hour long spurs there.
  8. Your information got me curious, so I went and collected data from 1000 auto-attacks, split 50-50 between Wand of Treachery (lvl70) and Master Wand (lvl60). The data I collected implies that, for auto-attacks with wands, magic damage is not capped. My max, non-critical, damage is 958 with Master Wand and 961 with Wand of Treachery, which matches the 961 listed on my status screen. Damage Frequency MW-L60 WoT-L70 0~10% 43 41 10~20% 35 56 20~30% 45 44 30~40% 46 54 40~50% 35 42 50~60% 48 43 60~70% 45 53 70~80% 44 40 80~90% 38 40 90~100% 45 35 Criticals 76 52 A copy of my data here http://pastebin.com/hsnCv0M6 Based on your test and mine, we can conclude: Magic auto-attack: Not capped for magic wands, status screen is accurate Magic abilities: Capped by weapon tier. Back to OP's question: Assuming your accuracy is sufficiently high that you won't miss, and you heavily rely on auto-attacks (as in using momentum for slaying), you'll deal more dps with magic than melee.
  9. You get: 32 trade goods with Jade Merchant {Floor(25* 1.3)} 35 trade goods with Jade Merchant + Fortune of the Sea {Floor(25 * 1.3 * 1.1)}
  10. I finally unlocked the Pincer region!
  11. I always enjoy your picture diaries. Keep them coming!
  12. Great reads, love to hear some well constructed argument about the EoC. Adapt or Die, indeed. Really glad to see the Times remains so strong after all these years. Not just strong, but as insightful as ever. Well done, tripsis, storm, and team!
  13. This is the way RunEscape ends: Not with a bang but a whimper.
  14. I collected some a few years back during the GE exchange. Will try to see if I can dig up the information.
  15. I think this is a legitimate question considering the longetivity of this game. It has run for a decade now and don't color me surprised if it run for a decade more. How many of us are guaranteed to survive for twenty years straight? We already had a high profile passing - The Old Nite - so why aren't we considering this issue more seriously?
  16. Here are the two patents in question: http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=/netahtml/PTO/srchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=5,822,523.PN.&OS=PN/5,822,523&RS=PN/5,822,523 http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=/netahtml/PTO/srchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=6,226,686.PN.&OS=PN/6,226,686&RS=PN/6,226,686 The patents are filed by MPlayer/HearMe, which developed the namesake gaming matchmaking service that was utilized by Quake, C&C, and other games. MPlayer was near bankruptcy by 2000 and its technologies sold off, apparantly to the patent troll in question.
  17. Last year, the Boston Globe reports that major MMO publishers (Blizzard, Turbine, SOE, NCSoft, and Jagex) are being sued by Paltalk, which holds a patent on 'sharing data among many connected computers so that all users see the same digital environment' a patent that would seem to apply to any multiplayer game played between multiple systems, at the very least. Paltalk has already received an out-of-court settlement from Microsoft earlier this year in relation to a lawsuit over the Halo games. If Microsoft can't fend off Paltalk's legal attacks, the odds don't look good for their latest group of targets." http://games.slashdot.org/story/09/09/18/0347209/Major-MMO-Publishers-Sued-For-Patent-Infringement "Gamasutra reports that a US District Court judge has dismissed the patent infringement lawsuit brought against RuneScape developer Jagex discussed previously on Slashdot. Judge David Folsom last week dismissed online chat company Paltalk's claims that Jagex infringed on Paltalk patents relating to online network communications. The judge's ruling only resolved Jagex's case. Microsoft settled with Paltalk for an undisclosed sum in 2009 after the online communication technology company sued over the patents in a $90 million claim. That settlement opened the door to Paltalk's claims against other game companies, including Blizzard, Turbine, SOE and NCSoft. Paltalk alleged in the Jagex-related suit that it had suffered 'tens of millions of dollars' in damages. Jagex CEO Mark Gerhard said in a statement, 'It is exceedingly unfortunate that the US legal system can force a company with a sole presence in Cambridge, UK to incur a seven-digit expense and waste over a year of management time on a case with absolutely no merit,' and that Jagex 'will not hesitate to vigorously defend our position against any patent trolls who bring lawsuits against us in the future.'" http://games.slashdot.org/story/10/11/19/0550219/RuneScape-Developer-Victorious-Over-Patent-Troll http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/31597/UKBased_RuneScape_Dev_Jagex_Wins_Patent_Infringement_Lawsuit.php [spoiler=Article on Gamasutra]A U.S. District Court judge has dismissed a patent infringement lawsuit brought against RuneScape developer Jagex, but not before the UK studio spent a purported seven figures defending itself. Judge David Folsom last week dismissed online chat company Paltalk's claims that Jagex infringed on Paltalk patents relating to online network communications, according to court documents obtained by Gamasutra. "After reviewing source code for the RuneScape video game made available by Jagex, Paltalk and Jagex agree that the RuneScape video game does not infringe the patents-in-suit," wrote the judge. "Accordingly, judgment of non-infringement is entered in this case." RuneScape is a free-to-play MMORPG that launched in 2001, and at the time of the suit's filing had around 10 million active players per month. Andrew and Paul Gower, founders of the Cambridge, UK-based studio, earlier this year were listed among the country's wealthiest game entrepreneurs. Along with Jagex, Paltalk also sued game companies Sony Computer Entertainment America, Sony Online Entertainment, Sony Corp., Activision Blizzard, Blizzard Entertainment, NCsoft and Turbine, accusing them all of infringing on the same patents, 5,822,523 and 6,226,686 titled "Server-group messaging system for interactive applications." The judge's ruling only resolved Jagex's case. Microsoft settled with Paltalk for an undisclosed sum in 2009 after the online communication technology company sued over the patents in a $90 million claim. That settlement opened the door to Paltalk claims against other game companies. Paltalk alleged in the Jagex-related suit that it had suffered "tens of millions of dollars" in damages. The judge said that the order of non-infringement is final, with both Jagex and Paltalk waiving the right to appeal the ruling. Both parties are to cover their own legal fees. The ruling favors Jagex, but for company CEO Mark Gerhard, the damage is already done. "It is exceedingly unfortunate that the U.S. legal system can force a company with a sole presence in Cambridge, UK to incur a seven-digit expense and waste over a year of management time on a case with absolutely no merit," he said in a statement. "This anomaly, which could easily break smaller studios, doesnt happen in the UK since you can pursue frivolous litigants for the costs of such claims," he added. "We are particularly disappointed that Paltalk did not, at any stage prior to filing the lawsuit, seek to contact us to clarify that Jagexs game platform did not infringe Paltalks patents." While a settlement may have have been less costly than drawn-out litigation, Gerhard said that Jagex "will not hesitate to vigorously defend our position against any patent trolls who bring lawsuits against us in the future." Reps for Paltalk did not immediately return request for comment. Edit: Patents is an important part of our country's intellectual property system. A well executed patent system requires publication of innovative technologies for public use in exchange for a limited time period in which the patent holder igains exclusive usage rights. Our current patent system, especially when it comes to software patents, has become broken beyond repair and abused by companies that we refer to as "patent trolls." Patent trolls do not innovate. Their business model is to purchase frivolous software patent caches on the cheap, often from business failures, then turn around and use these patents to extract money from actual productive members of society, launching frivolous lawsuits like these. See wikipedia for more information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patent_trolls
  18. It's a copy of the case file, not the bot.
  19. Redemption heals you back to 25% from below 10%, for the average player it is equivalent to healing with a monkfish or better. The only reason it weren't useful before was it drains all your prayer, but that is no longer a problem. In essence, this set equals to free monkfishs for low risk activities, or for high level players, free sharks.
  20. To compensate, Jagex put in "crates" for popular shop items like vials that allow you to purchase 50's of the item at once.
  21. Additionally, most npc you use God spell against will have no natural magic level for you to drain in the first place, hence it makes more sense to drain their defense levels.
  22. You mentioned that you found the visage fighting iron dragons. Why not level up herblore to get some super antifires? You'll be at awe at how much faster iron and even steel dragons are when you're wielding a defender or zammy spear. You don't even need to get the full lvl 85 herblore, just get to lvl 80 and try stock up with spicy curry! Or you can go ancient crazy in castlewar.
  23. Here's some from runewiki http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Wintumber_tree Here's the Varrock Xmas tree during the 05 winter event http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/2005_Christmas_event
