  1. It appears that majority of the increase in revenue comes from improvements in currency exchange rate and slight increase in monthly cost, with marginal improvements in raw subscription numbers. The changeover of CEO and development philosophy appears to have stemmed the expected subscription loss. However, there's no doubt that RuneScape as an IP has matured and saturated its possible market base and it's imperative for JaGeX to expand its market offerings beyond this core IP.
  2. You can only create portals for teleport to Varrock, Lumbridge, Falador, Camelot, Ardougne, Yanille, and Kharyrll. More information here: http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Portal_Chamber
  3. I personally prefer the mobilizing army method. It can be used anywhere and has a very low cost, compared to the other methods.
  4. Wouldn't it be more likely that another one of the OP's real life friend saw that and thought it's a good idea to call up the local police to check, just to be sure?
  5. You can probably add brewing Greenman's Ale or Chef's Delight into that. It's similar to farming, and can be quite profitable, especially if you have "the stuff" from trouble brewing to get mature ales. http://www.runescoop.com/html/rs_MMLimitedCookingChefsDelightM.htm
  6. How in the world?! That's some epic skiller stats, mate!
  7. The new quest gives nearly half a mil in combat exp, if you are really desperate that's one way of doing it. Also works with WGS too.
  8. What's your goals with that gp? Do you intend to grow the cash pile by merchanting? Or would you rather purchase (stableish) equipments to enhance your training? Or would you rather spent in it on quick exp? Whats your leveling goals? Letting us know more about what you want, or else we'll just be giving you bad advice.
  9. It's simply the new cool thing that merchants thought up. Think of it as the runescape equivalent of Diablo 2' Stone of Jordan.
  10. Cleaning up your disk space and defragging is your second best choice. If you have less than 10%-20% free space your computer will run noticeably slower under any memory intensive load (like java) or when multitasking. Your best choice is to back up your files and reformat your OS. It'll give your computer a fresh start and make it work like new again.
  11. Ah, I remember now: browsing through runescoops, Qeltar described how you can use lava titan and pack yaks to make 1m/hr just from opening muddy chests: http://runescoop.com/html/rs_MMServiceMuddyKeysXH.htm
  12. Adding on to what ice mentioned, you can probably do a few quests to get to lvl 33 http://www.runescape.com/kbase/guid/construction_rewards
  13. You can use fruitbats for fruit fall, you get a papaya (worth 2k each) almost every spell.
  14. Sorry, Deathmath, for got you hooked on RS.
  15. Been on a training binge, here's what i gathered. Construction ~3k logs/1hr using demon butler Oak logs: 3k logs/hr, +180k exp/hr, -400gp/log, -1.2m/hr, -7gp/exp Oak planks: 3.5k logs/hr, +210k exp/hr, -650gp/log, -2.3m/hr, -11gp/exp Herblore Cleaning, aroung 3-4k/hr herbs cleaned, any herb 8exp-12exp each cleaned average: 3.5k herbs/hr, +35k exp/hr, +100gp/herb, +350k/hr, +10gp/exp see http://forum.tip.it/index.php?app=blog&blogid=174&showentry=617 Potions, made from clean herb, vial, and second at around 600 pot/hour see runewiki for cost: http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Calculators/Potions Potions, made from herb potion (unf) and second, around 1k pot/hour see runewiki for cost: http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Calculators/Unfinished%20potions Prayer see runewiki: http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Calculators/Bones
  16. Haha, dalai lama shooting fire surge is probably the highlight of my day.
  17. No, I am not crazy. Yes I am aware that pot training (heh) costs 20-30gp/exp, caviars are unbuyable, and everyone and their ogres are training to get extreme potions. The Herblore Exp source I am avocating is simply: Cleaning Herbs. Herb cleaning, not only provides decent exp rates, can also be one of the more profitable activities in game (more below). Because of the large amount of GP involved, however, the activity can be quite dangerous to your financial health if the risks are not properly managed. This might be pointing to the obvious, but all that requires to clean a herb is left click. More importantly, it is one fo the few activities ingame with no animation delay associated with it. It is theoretically possible to clean as much as 6k herbs a hour, although 3-4k is more reasonable and quite manageable. Herb cleaning provides around 8-14 exp a herb, and averages about 100 gp profit each, so it's completely reasonable to expect about 35k (3.5k x 10) herblore exp and 350k (3.5k x 100) gp a hour from herblore cleaning alone. Even if herblore exp is only worth 20gp/exp to you, that's over 1m/hour of wealth you're generating. If it is so good, why isn't everyone doing it? The obvious reason is that many people don't enjoy repetitive clicking. The potential physical strain aside, I personally enjoy the fact your exp rate is dependent on your real life ability to focus and click rapidly. An alternative explanation is that for most of rs history, grimy herbs costs more than clean ones, so player no longer bothered with it. Everything changed with the extreme potion update, though. The once stagnant herbs market suddenly fluctuate on daily basis with thousands of herbs rapidly changing hands. With nearly tripling of profits in herbs, more players switched their MTK options to herb rather than raw fish or flax, and more farmers planted their herb seeds regularly. This lead to an rapid increase in both supply and demand of herbs and as a result constantly changing herb-cleaning profit/lost ratio. What does this mean for herb cleaning profits? One is that it has become much easier to purchase grimmies. Lucky for us, much of the additional herb supplies come from players whom do not have the herblore level to clean it, and rather than going through the hassle of using the assist system, simply tossing the herbs onto the GE for us to purchase. Second, because the herbs market change on daily basis, a profitable herb-cleaning for one day may not be for the next, or just unbuyable the next. This requires an careful study of the market before every herb cleaning session. Finally, players need to know the underlying worths of herbs, to avoid losing GP on pricing bubbles (merchanting clans have been active in the area. I learned this the hard way: collecting 5k of Grimy Dwarf Weed and watched it dropped 2k each!) This seems awfully allot of work, but lucky, we have allot of brilliant runescapers whom have laid the foundation for us already. RuneWiki, as usual, have several herblore related calculators premade, but the most important of which for us is: http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Calculators/Herbs This gives us a quick visual breakdown on what herbs are currently profitable for clean. The guidance it provide is insufficient, however, and several caveats must be observed. While many low level herbs are profitable (<50), their grimmies are generally are not in great supply. In general, only higher level herbs such as Snapdragon and Dwarf Weed can be purchased rapidly (there's essentially zero supply of Grimy Torstol). At the same time, higher level herbs tend to cost more and can tie up significant amount of GP if it doesn't immediately sell. Because of the danger of price crashing, it's always better to purchase earlier after in a GE update cycle rather than near the next GE update cycle. Remember, herb cleaning and price merchanting are two different activities that may not work optimally together. A final caviet is that the RuneWiki calculator does not always update immediately, and the HTTP parser round off higher pricing herbs to three significant digits, and thus can affect the profit outlook of herb cleaning. The lesson is always double check the pricings before purchase at GE. As a bonus, I also created my own GE parser* using Google Docs that provides more up-to-date numbers. Primadog's Herb Cleaning Calculator Herb Cleaning is an overlooked but profitable and efficient way to raise herblore. I hope this may help someone out there also looking to enjoying the wrath of Super Antifires! Here are some final numbers and tips I'll leave: 35k+ Herblore exp/hr 350k+ GP profit/hr (in addition) Recommended: 60+ herblore level (higher level can clean additional herbs) 5M+ startup money Never hold more than 2k of a herb time at the same time! The bank for herb cleaning is in the Dueling Arena, because it has both one-click banking and a banker that allows you to collect GE purchases. Special thanks to the brilliant brainymidget for his guide onGE parsing using Google Doc.
  18. Nvm I just looked it up. If you needed prayer as well, the monastery teleport of Ardougne Cape is fairly close to a fairy ring, just run east one screen.

    Introduction

This might be a bit embarrassing: I been a hyter since scapeboard, but it took me a whole 30 minutes to find out how to create a blog here... Anyways, Let's get this started. For those who may not know me, I am Primadog. My rsn is DogPrima, and before the name-change update it was NewbieI. I am a regular in the tipit chat, and always lurks in the hyt chat ingame. I Altogether, I been playing runescape on and off for about eight years. During that time, I graduated middle school, then graduated high school, got into college of my dream to study Electrical Engineering, and in a semester will be graduating from here. It's been a wild ride, and run escape has always been that one constant that I can always fall back on. There's certain serenity in playing, and certain comfortableness knowing it's only a few key stroke away, and of course, the community here is second to none. Nothing is better than to disappear a few months and come back to the tipit chat and catching up with everyone. Anyways, I am getting ahead of myself here. This blog will be about whatever I thought of while playing runescape. To make it interesting, I'll throw in any nice tricks or calculations I come across. and here's how my adventuer log currently looks like:
  20. As usual, RuneWiki has a calculator designed for just that: http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Calculators/Potions
  21. PVM The Deflect Spells acts like the Protect Prayers, with addition of some small amount of damage reflected (like a random ring of recoil). The reductions act like the "curse spells" in the mage books. It only drains up to the maximum described by the prayer description. It does not stack with any other drain (curse spells, god spell effect, barrows effect, weapon special, etc), whichever that has highest deduction prevails. Like normal prayers, the magic boosts do not affect magic damage, only magic accuracy.
  22. It's probably interesting to note that Lightning has been spotted recently.
  23. Dungeons and Dragons Online is enjoying a second life in terms of player count and buzz, all thanks to a new business strategy: giving the game away. Turbine is making their MMO as accessible as possible, and that includes making players who don't pay anything as happy as possible. Subscriptions are up 40 percent. Ars explores how free can be very profitable. Unfortunately, Ars never bothered to credit where the credit is due. This IS the RuneScape business model for a decade. Regardless, I am glad that the industry is catching up and appreciating the merit of F2P/P2P hybrid that JaGeX pioneered. Additionally, I hope this reminds our members community of the importances of F2P to the development of RuneScape to where it is today. http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2009/10/ddo-free-to-play.ars
