  1. Hmm... my concern with that would be that if it's a particularly sophisticated virus, it could infect your own computer without you really knowing (seeing as AV doesn't pick it up).
  2. You're out in the countryside (I assume, what with the closest server being milton keynes/newbury) and the internet can be slower out there. All I can really suggest is completely unplugging your router + modem and plugging em back in. Check you haven't changed any settings around in the router/modem settings. Also, if you're with Tiscali, I don't know if they rent out lines from BT or something, so BT could be doing maintenance on their lines.. although Tiscali would probably know about that.
  3. I'm using ubuntu on my laptop and it does have quite a steep learning curve. I can't say how easy it is to use after that curve seeing as I'm still somewhere at the bottom of it :P Windows 7 is very nice to use, tons of programs support it and its quite fast. There's probably a majority of programs for windows. Mac OS involves buying a mac, so I would just say no (let's not go there again).
  4. I don't really think the Sara Sword is great for strength training - unless you are a pure. If you aren't a pure, then just use a whip with controlled style. Slayer is good for getting charms.
  5. Yes of course, it's all in the options for the BT HomeHub. I'd explain how but I'm not currently at home.. instructions will be in the internet somewhere. It'll be under the security tab, either in options or in advanced options - I'm not sure.
  6. It shouldn't mess it up at all. I doubt anyone really wants to hack into your internet. That said, it is easier to hack and less secure. I think you'd be fine either way. The wire may get annoying with you having to sit next to the router when you play (I assume that's how it works). It is of course all up to you, that's just my opinion.
  7. WEP keys are quite easy to hack AFAIK, although I'm not sure that people care enough to bother. Your average Joe isn't going to know that they can be hacked, let alone how. WEP should be fine.
  8. I prefer firefox overall compared to other browsers because of the massive addons library
  9. I don't speak a word of Swedish, and you basically speak fluent English. That in its self means you can completely ignore those people complaining at you probably are just kids, as you said.
  10. I've used it to run ubuntu and it's ace.
  11. Mage is pretty much the way to go for the melee brothers, but you could experiment with melee. Godsword is too slow, so don't use that.
  12. 1) I have linux on my USB stick. When I install programs, then reboot, the program is no longer there. How can I stop this from happening? 2) I need system utilities for Linux. Something identical to piriform speccy would be amazing (ie. something that will tell me frequency and type of RAM, clock speed/voltage/temperature of CPU, motherboard infomation, HDD information etc). Also a Prime95 equivilant for torture tests. I checked - speccy doesn't work well with Wine. Thanks for your help. EDIT: 'hardinfo' is a good program
  13. Just be careful what you download. You will not get a virus so long as you don't go to shady websites and don't download random things which you're not entirely sure of the trustworthiness of the origin. I think you can run MSE alongside another AV, such as avast or similar - at least I do. You could always try that.
  14. IMO you don't need a 10,000RPM or 15,000RPM drive, 7,200RPM will do you absolutely fine. Once again, I've heard bad things about Seagate, but that could just be rumours. I would just go with WD or Samsung though. There is no RAM in that build. You need to add some. 4GB will be fine, but 8GB would be good. That PSU might be a little OTT, newegg's calculator says you'll only need 686W, but I would stay with it in case of future upgrades/massive overclocking. Perhaps the 580 may be a little OTT too. You may also want to upgrade the case - for such a good build it will get quite hot and you'll want at least one 200MM fan. Cable management is a big plus, too. I would wholeheartedly advise third party cooling, especially for Sandy Bridge. You'll definately want to overclock.
  15. That's exactly right. If something goes wrong there is only one company to blame. Can't be passing blame to microsoft or to ati or nvidea. Apple designs everything to fit together. If there is a weak part in the machine it is there own. It's nice that there is no need to go searching for drivers ever. You appear to be making out that apple make 100% of the computers components. That.. isn't true. They use ATI cards, Intel and/or AMD cards, and probably more. I'd like to add that you don't need to go searching for drivers on a windows machine unless you've reinstalled windows because they're already installed. Your last point confuses me - Microsoft do not make the drivers, the manufacturers do. They want their parts to run as smoothly as possible on a windows machine, thus surely they would make the drivers work easily? Which they do. So I'm not sure what you're really trying to say. [/hide] Apple only uses a select few components from the manufacturers like ATI and Intel and therefore can customize their systems directly with them. I'm sure the cards from ATI and Intel are not the same as any other brand. Apple probably has a completely custom built unit for them. So you're suggesting that Intel custom-makes specific CPU's tailored to Apple's needs? Noty.

  17. Start your own thread mate, kinda counts as thread hijacking. OT: I would be wary of having 2 cards crossfired/sli'd as an initial build, you're kinda slowed by that 8x pci. Just go for a 6970 I guess, or hell, a 6990 XD
  18. It would appear that in this topic, there are a fair few trolls unnecessarily nit-picking the rules to the finest detail. Tip.it is no small site, the admins and mods are some of the best out there, and thus I think we can trust them. It is simply one of those things that is obvious once you see it, yet a complete and conclusive set of rules is near impossible to draw up. As I said, the admins and mods are all very experienced and we can easily trust in their judgement. Some queries of course here are legitimate, but it does look like people are just arguing for the sake of arguing.. Just my opinion of course.
  19. I'm assuming i should use them in the order gold green crimson blue? or green gold crimson blue? i've heard stuff about greens being worse xp rate than gold.
  20. Here have some, oh wait.. it's empty bottles. I wish i had a million dollars
  21. I'm wondering how to use my charms that I've accumulated. Like, which ones should I use first, and also on what. I have 1571 Gold 1122 Green 1158 Crimson 212 Blue Summoning level: 56 The most cost effective method would be great. Thanks all
  22. I've heard rather bad things about seagate lately. Personally both of my hard drives are seagate, but they are quite old. What I've been told is that previously, Seagate was indeed good, but now they are slipping quite badly.
  23. Their internal cpu architecture is incredibly dated and slower than intel's. @OP Stay away from Seagate, their harddrives are not great quality. I can't say I've ever heard of the 'Palit' brand, although it could be an american thing. Compatibility wise, looks fine, although I've not actually checked in much detail. I would say an 850W PSU is a little OTT. I know little about nVidia graphics cards, but I'd be hesitant about GTS, and IDK whether the 450 model is enough
  24. Once you've chosen your parts, give us a list of links to them and we can help you with that. Physically, they should fit together because everything conforms to an industry standard, so all parts are physically the same. You don't actually need many cables for the inside of the computer, most stuff physically plugs into the motherboard. The only cables you need are external ones, and perhaps a couple of SATA ones for the HDDs, but normally the motherboard comes with a few. Assembly-wise, they don't normally come with instructions on how to assemble your computer, but it is really not such a difficult concept as some people may suggest. Sure, a couple of things require knowledge and know-how, but that's what google is for :P
  25. Combos are always good - they save you money. Putting a computer together isn't too bad. I would definitely stay away from AMD for a good computer. I doubt you need to spend the money on a 2TB drive - 1TB will probably suffice and it is easy enough to add another hard drive if you end up needing the extra space. I would go the whole way and get an i7 2600k, although a i5 2500k will suffice. You'd definitely want third party CPU cooler because you should overclock - those sandy bridge's go crazy high. For cases - you'll want one with lots of fans, and cable management. I see the computer you chose had a seagate HDD - stay away from them.
