  1. I think you're all overthinking this. The easiest and best way to kill a mage tank is with a weapon already commonly used in Castle Wars. One person uses a Z/D spear spec on the mage while the rest attack. You get 4 stuns per spec bar and they cannot heal with bandages, soul split, or blood barrage during that time. Problem solved.
  2. I don't know... With all the high powered players out there this weekend even a maxed tank mage may find it difficult to stay alive inside the enemy base for long. Tunnels might be a better place, or even catapulting the entire game.
  3. I hadn't thought of waterfiends. Good idea. Under the same 3 equipment set ups as before but with 3 prayers, I obtained these results under further testing: Nothing: 20.53 seconds Only halo: 24.55 seconds 19.6% improvement in time Proselyte: 44.06 seconds With halo: 48.24 seconds 9.5% improvement in time Verac's: 46.46 seconds With halo: 53.50 seconds 15.1% improvement in time The differences are much smaller, but using the halo is still noticeably superior. Of the two new prayers introduced in this second batch of trials, soul split is a larger drain than berserker. Under most circumstances, you probably won't have it activated the entire time, and it's also possible to minimize that effect by prayer flashing.
  4. It's an improvement over the existing equipment. A halo will further slow your prayer drain rate on top of any prayer bonuses you may have. I designed the 2nd trial set to reflect a situation where prayer bonus is important (in cases where you're using a protection prayer), but without the use of expensive equipment. The BSS can be replaced with a rune defender or other shield at the cost of a few prayer points. The 3rd trial is a more expensive set up that offers greater defensive bonuses that might be used while tanking and using piety or turmoil. As you can see, the halo offers a substantial improvement in the amount of time that turmoil lasts. The downside is that the halo is moderately pricey at 300 tickets to buy. In addition, it would most likely not be one of the 3 items you kept on death and would therefore not be appropriate under risky combat situations. I haven't thought of any specific situation you'd use one in besides armored zombies. Another person did point out that halos have the highest magic defense of any helmet. Maybe they could help while camping spiritual mages (since they also count as a god item)?
  5. I did some testing to see how fast 20 prayer points would drain using different equipment and prayer bonuses. All tests were done with turmoil, but I imagine that it's comparable or translatable to piety and other prayers or curses. Nothing equipped: 40.53 seconds Only halo equipped: 59.13 seconds 45.9% improvement in time Full proselyte (helm, chest, legs), SW cape, fury, blessed spirit shield, barrows gloves, dragon boots: 89.72 seconds [+37 prayer bonus] Same as above but with helm replaced with halo: 124.18 seconds [+33 prayer bonus] 38.4% improvement in time Full Verac's (helm, chest, legs), SW cape, god stole, godsword, barrows gloves, dragon boots: 97.75 seconds [+42 prayer bonus, ~260 melee defense bonuses] Same as above but with helm replaced with halo: 137.19 seconds [+39 prayer bonus, ~220 melee defense bonuses] 40.3% improvement in time The difference is larger at higher prayer bonuses due to the diminishing marginal effects of each additional point of prayer bonus. The halo partially bypasses that effect by having a set effect that stacks upon existing bonuses.
  6. That's true, which is why I'm going to be revising my guide soon with some more information . I suggest bringing along a summoning potion (currently ~1.1k a dose) and sipping it before summoning a new bear. In addition, I'm exploring the use of hunter potions to boost your xp/hr even more. At the extremely low price of 87gp a dose, you obtain an additional 3 levels to hunter. I will be testing this technique in conjunction with the berserker prayer and posting the results.
  7. I'm glad you found it useful. If anyone else is interested and doesn't want to register on the Myriad forums, I've gone ahead and posted it here on TIF: http://forum.tip.it/topic/267129-hunting-penguins/
  8. Penguin Hunting Note: This activity is unrelated to the D&D and the penguin pet. Red salamanders are a popular hunting target due to their fast experience. The problem is that the limited location means that it's difficult to find an unoccupied world even during off hours. Instead of hopping from world to world, try hunting penguins. It offers comparable experience per hour without the crowds. In order to hunt penguins, you must have completed the quest Hunt for Red Raktuber. It's fairly easy, and the level requirements are low. The best way to reach the iceberg is through the Fairy Ring system. Use the code "D K S" to teleport south of the Snowy Hunter Area. However, instead of crossing the narrow peninsula to your north, go a bit further east to the dock you first accessed during the penguin quest series. Travel using the boat there. You'll end up on the iceberg. Head northeast until you see Jim the polar bear. Just past him is a series of ice pillars that function as stepping stones to the Iceberg Hunting Area. Cross them, and you'll end up on a large sheet of ice crawling with penguins. Penguins are the prey you are after, but there are a variety of ways you can catch them. The best experience is from setting up net traps, although you can also track penguins from level 45-50. Your setup should look like this: Since the Iceberg Hunter Area is classified as a polar region, a full set of Kyatt clothing acts as camouflage and increases your success rate while hunting. The lunar staff is for accessing the Fairy Ring network. You may choose to wear weight reducing items such as a spottier cape, penance gloves, and boots of lightness, particularly if you are tracking penguins. A dueling ring or charged glory amulet is recommended to leave the area quickly. There are two spots where net traps can be set up with half a dozen fishing rods each, so it's possible for several hunters to share a world. I find that the area along the southern edge of the iceberg is best. Just cycle between the following 4 rods: Occasionally, you may find that you've caught a KGP agent instead of a penguin. They look identical, and while Jim the polar bear gives you an extra 2 hunter xp for each one you bring him, the long jump across the stepping stones doesn't make it worthwhile. Just release them as you would normally. At 68 hunter, I get about 70k xp per hour hunting penguins, which is slightly higher than the amount of xp I've gotten hunting red salamanders. This figure should rise with a higher hunter level. While I almost always have to hop at least half a dozen times to find an empty spot at red salamanders, the iceberg is usually deserted. If you are ever taken by a random event and lose your ropes and nets, there is a Ruined Boat conveniently located on the southeast corner of the iceberg. Search it for unlimited amounts of driftwood, rope, fishing nets, and knives. Happy hunting!
  9. Strength neither needs an update nor has one been mentioned by Jagex. I think Agility is rather unlikely as well.
  10. Thanks bladewing! I used your setup and I beat Jad on my first try. I always thought that you had to range the fight caves, but I much prefer this method. Off to do more slayer in my shiny firecape. :D
  11. This is the first time I have even attempted the Fight Caves, because the bonus slayer xp from Kuradal if I am successful is just too good to pass up. I've browsed a lot of guides and many of them seem outdated or have confusing language. They also tend to be geared toward everyone, so I have some specific questions about how a high level should approach this task. First off, my levels: 95 Attack, Strength, and Defense 99 Magic 85 Range 95 Prayer (with access to curses) 131 Combat 1. What would be the ideal equipment set up for me? Is Guthan's even worth taking anymore? 2. What should my inventory look like? Money is not really an object here, although I'm hoping not to spend more than a few million. 3. Which monsters should I pray on besides Jad and the 360s? 4. I've heard that claws and deflect prayers are good for killing Jad quickly. Since I have access to both, how does this work? 5. How do I handle the healers? Do I kill them, or try to trap them behind something? Thanks in advance for your help. I'll post more questions if I think of them. :-)
  12. I don't understand why there's not already a woodcutting guild. Ivy and sawmill are just updates that help you level quicker and don't actually feature any of the player activities typically found in a guild. As a "gathering" skill and one of the original skills from RSC, woodcutting is one of the few missing a guild. It also makes sense: you have one or more players clustered around specific resource nodes, rather than skills like fletching that you can perform at any bank. Edit: It is my personal opinion (note the opinion part) that people advocating for a slayer guild will never be satisfied with the number of updates the Slayer skill gets. They will always want more and more content. This is in spite of the fact that slayer has received many updates in the past few months: Slayer Challenges, Strykewyrms, Kuradel's dungeon, updates to the slayer rewards, and other minor updates. I think I can safely say that no other skill has received as much attention as Slayer, but apparently that's still not enough.
  13. How can you be certain that Runescape will continue to grow in playership? I'm under the impression that the number of new members has stagnated.
  14. I thought emerald bolts poisoned a target. Do you mean enchanted jade bolts? Otherwise, a good start to a guide.
  15. Ray, you should show off your abs for the ladies. ;o

  16. Nice drops. I was happy for you until I saw your note about dying and losing 40 mil. <_< Oh well. At the rate you're going you'll have that back and a lot more by the end of the month. PS. Any reason you only do CS?
  17. How did you even find that slayer page off the KB? I can't seem to find a way to access it from the other articles dealing with Dungeoneering. Also, this page seems to almost be a joke. It's riddled with typos, and most of the items are not worth binding in the first place.
  18. The beast of burden familiars carry a lot of extra food for their summoning level (just check on the KB). If you're having trouble with the final boss fights, I suggest bringing one stuffed with salve eels or better and setting your right click option to take from BOB.
  19. If you did, maybe tip.it will add it to the site. One hundred clues is not a large enough sample. I'm thinking more along the lines of hundreds of clues, perhaps thousands.
  20. In short, no. The only thing that we have to base treasure trail reward rates on are the drop logs kept by individual players. Like logs for monster drops, there's still uncertainty as to what the actual percentage of each item is. Unlike monster drops though, clues take a much longer (and more variable) amount of time to obtain and do. I've yet to see a log for level 3s that's hundreds of clues long, or any other substantial number which is needed to get a semi-accurate number. For now, I'd say that rewards are up to chance.
  21. Yup, as far as I can tell (so far) this applies to the luminescent icefiend, stomp, and sagittare. Btw you notice that after you get stomp down to 1/3 health he starts doing a STUPID ammount of damage? He was hitting me for EXACTLY 247 damage constantly like my armor wasn't even there. I didn't notice that. His attacks seemed fairly weak, and only hit about as often as I could veng myself. I had more trouble with his special attacks. The first two times he used them, debris blocked my access to one of the two lodestones, so that I was unable to place a crystal there. I couldn't mine it away or anything, and I don't know if this is intentional (because he healed to full HP both times). Good thing this didn't happen when he was almost dead. Also, to the person asking about doors with high level requirements: Besides potions, you can use summoning to boost your skills. Hoardstalker familiars (the foraging ones) offer an invisible skill boost ranging from 1 to 10. This means that there could conceivably be requirements of 110+ plus in a skill.
  22. You need to update your RS names again... serial name changer ftl.

  23. Strange, mine is still not working. The RS log-in screen now loads. You can't yet log into the game though, or the lobby.
  24. Lol. First time I tried to open RS again I got a message saying "The maximum number of people are downloading Runescape at the moment. Please go back to the main page and try again." And the addicts rejoice!
