  1. Berserker is right the same stats, just no pray bonus and negatives attack bonuses on magic and ranged. There's the dwarven helmet that gives crush attack. The BA attack helmet that gives also crush attack I think. Warrior helm gives slash attack, a bit underrated IMO. Besides that, verac helm perhaps for uber defence. (and pray bonus)
  2. That's all nice and dandy, Kietaro, but you are confusing people. You arent losing less money bye fletching and cooking your way. You are just reducing the costs using your kingdom. It's your kingdom that makes you money, the flethcing and cooking that looses you money. Dont bring those 2 together, they are seperated. It's good advice though.
  3. Some people define useful in different ways.. Why not have a piece of RS history? You can always get one of those shields as a drop... so why burn cash on it (the reason I haven't bought a DFS) You cannot get a phat as a drop.. unless someone pops a cracker with you  (you have a better chance of getting 100 Elysian shield drops before this happens) No you don't. Elysian shield drop is impossible. Get some kind of spirit shield, they're all useful somehow, unlike partyhats. Oh I apologize Elysian Sigil drops... and yes you have a better chance of getting 100 Elysian shields before you could find someone who'd pop a cracker with you. And no Spirit shields are useless as well seeing as the DFS gives more defence bonuses (barring crush) and an added str bonus. "oh well the spirit shield gives a +5 prayer bonus.." Okay and your point is, Fally Shield 3 give +7 prayer bonus, doesn't mean it should be worth 128m... (just in case you try to say the +5 prayer makes it better than DFS) On top of that the DFS is useless in its own outside of monster hunting and dragon slaying as it is more efficient to use a Rune Defender. Thus making spirit shields even more useless. At least a Party hat will never come into the game again (aside from being popped from a cracker, which we have established is HIGHLY unlikely) Both Elysian shields and Phats are status symbols but Phats can only exit the game, more spirit shields come into the game every day. ... You obv havent heard of the special abilities of she shield. And spirit shields come into the game every day. Sigils on the other hand, hmm.
  4. Amen to xxxgod. Okay, some people that have 99 firemaking enjoyed it. But most dont. Even moreso for cookers and flethcers, since those ask even less dedication. Better spend the time in a skill you like, even if it doesnt yield you lvl 99 in that one. 99 is overrated.
  5. Dont go for a 99 just to go for a 99. Do something you like.
  6. now THAT'S a good question. I know I shouldnt care, but I cant stand those cape hunters. Do a skill you like/or that's useful. I am generalizing, cause some people seem to do love firemaking, but Ive got the feeling most dont.
  7. There are nolifers Sirhemen. Magic logs is over 400k an hour (I think) so it would only take 25 hours, starting from 1M xp. (which is nearly lvl 75 needed to burn em). Let's make it 30. Some people play 10 hours a day, so you can get it in 3 days. I'd go insane though, but theoretically, you can get it, easily. Cost: Magic log 1100 each (?). xp: 350 each (?). Just rough estimates. Anyway, lets say you pay 3 times your xp. Thats nearly 40M for 99. People have that money.
  8. That's why is a hard skill... Attention, if you can't pay attention, you can't train FM Yes, and I consider it newby to bore the hell out of yourself just to get a useless, yet "shiny" cape. Would you still get 99 firemaking if skill capes didnt exist?
  9. Hunter is faster and you gain profit with it. Shouldn't that be more "newb" then? Magic logs= 99 fm in 4 or 5 days, its a buyable noob skill. wow the wisdom of maulmachine shines through again! If you can get it in 4-5 days how come you don't have it? And one more thiing how come you don't have any 99's your complaining that its a noob cape but still your 124 combat and have no 99's and don't go on about how i have no 99's because i don't play anymore =p Personally i love to fm its like fishing i love them both and hopefully when i do come back i will get 99 in both anyway some capes are harder than others and i understand that and i love the way the only people flaming are the people that don't have ANY 99 capes so good on you on getting an awesome cape I was 127 combat when I got my first 3 99s (at once). Really, being high lvled without 99s just means you are an allround player who doesnt like to grind. People focus way too much on getting a cape. Even I have fallen for it. I know better now. The only 99s I see myself getting from now is either combat ones or summoning. So I can use a steel titan,or be the strongest you can be (99 melees), not for a "stupid" cape. I judge mr maulmauchine with 124 combat and no 99s much higher, than those 85s with 99 cooking/fletching/firemaking I see daily. Why? They know nothing of the game.
  10. Fact is, before skill capes, you didnt have these lvls 85s with 99 fletch and/or cooking and/or firemaking.
  11. Rune mining is more profitable than ever... Lol. And explain to me how you can have spare time, talk, hang out with friends while firemaking. You cant. If you are, then you arent firemaking. [/hide] Rune mining used to be more profitable, although now its kinda returning to it's former glory. And sheer competition for spots has made it ineficcient. And, i don't like grinding skills, specially when going for higher lvs, it just makes the skill plain boring, and thus, unenjoyable. Therefore, i choose to sometimes interrupt my training and answer to friends that are online or to participate in Forsakenmage's Clan Chat, and talk to other firemakers or TIFers then spending those hours, loosing friends in game and not socializing IRL. Grinding just makes this game not worth it. I would rather turn off my PC and go spend sometime with my friends then grinding a skill. And i think you have the same atitude judging by your previous posts. ;) Dont know about the competition on spot, havent done it in a while. But people are claiming they are making over 1M an hour with rune mining... Anyway, I knew what you meant, I just wanted to point out that this applies to every skill. You can hang out while training defence too etc. Just, the *actual* firemaking is uber boring. There's no way around that. And yes, I dont like grinding skills either. However, I'm not very social on rs either. I like browsing forums in the mean time. Also, explain me how you socialize IRL while playing runescape?
  12. Rune mining is more profitable than ever... Lol. And explain to me how you can have spare time, talk, hang out with friends while firemaking. You cant. If you are, then you arent firemaking.
  13. It's not about how hard the skill is or whatever. It's about the attitude. Firemaking is one of the most boring and useless skills. If you have 99 firemaking as your only 99, it shows you just wanted a skill cape really badly and went for a quick and cheap one (yet very boring and, and therefore, you *could* consider it hard). People hate you cause you just went for a cape, not for the enjoyment of the skill. Nowhere did I say I considered my 99 ranged or magic to be harder than 99 magic. I just said they are way more useful. And while you just grinded your way from lvl 70-99, I got my lvls up to lvl 90 + without any grinding. (else, I'd be 99 already 3 years ago). That's why I think you are a newb, and I'm not. Might be shortsighted, but hey, how cant you be in an online game.
  14. me to. +2 Like fletching... I was in Clan Wars and some guy says "Pff... Fletching cape, to nooby and easy like fm cape" The I say "Well, if fletch or fm cape is easy, then got your own" Simple "Get your own cape" and these noobs will stop to laugh Also I like FM I'd rather quit than be forced to get 99 firemaking. Cause it's hard? No. Cause it's so freaking boring and useless. Someone who has 99 firemaking is (mostly) someone who wants a skill cape so badly he does a skill he dislikes for 100 hours straight. I find that a bit pathetic. Skill capes arent the end of the world.
  15. i just laugh at those without a skillcape making fun of my fm cape its rather funny Lol, really? You know why I laugh with 99 firemakers. Cause it's dead boring! Why would you bore the hell out of yourself to get a USELESS 99. On top of that, it's so fast and cheap xp, that it's really easily gotten, if you rule out the boredom. So you dont even get "respect" either. What's left? Wasted hours in the chase of a 99, which in the end, is a letdown. Might aswell go for a 99 you like, or that's useful. And about people who laugh at your skill cape while they dont have 99s: They havent spent 100 boring hours firemaking. They > you. Also, I got 99 magic, ranged and hitpoints, and in fact, I wish I didnt grind for the last few lvls. I'm getting the xp anyway, and every xp past 99 feels like a bit of wasted grinding. So i'd rather not have 99s. (of course, that's afterwards. Before, you are excited cause you want to wear that shiny cape, yay).
  16. Hmmm it seems like you want to avoid my arguement at all costs now. What I'm obviously trying to say is that the supply is controlled by monster drops because monster drops are completely random and cannot be produced according to the player's whim. That's why you can't create high level items because then they would be too cheap. There are over a million people playing runescape... If you were to have a new high level creatable then whoever can make it will constantly make it until there is an oversupply of them. Alright now counter this with a "No 99 Melee you seem to be talking nonsense. Let's move on.." You are stressing too much on your assumption that a skill based high lvl item would be as easily, steadily produced as, say, full rune. (as long as you have a rune rock spawn, it's easy to mine, and easy to smith (with the righ lvls), and easily done in mass) With the proper introduction, new high lvl items introdcued through skills arent gained that easily in masses. Look at dragon imps. Do we have an oversupply of dragon arrows? I think not, since they are 5k (or whatever) each. There are LOTS of ways to introduce it while not making it common so everyone with high skills can farm it as if they are mining iron ore or cutting yews. I think that's what the OP tries to suggest: skill based money making (through making high lvl items that require high lvls kills) that works luck or time based (or both). Some sort of GWD for skillers (you need to be lucky, but in the end, you need to have spent time). This is a totally new concept, dont compare it to the old, click tree, collect logs! Again, we've had our small example with Dragon imps, but the options are endless. (in a creative mind, which atm I dont have). Could be something treasure trail like, something d imp like, something crystal tree like, ... .

Lol, so firemaking is ... fun? The creator of this thread does actually like slayer. He just says it's a bad way to train combat. But of course you didn't read that, did you. You just saw the title, responded whatever came into your head, and then walked away. Nice firemaking btw. :^o
  18. NIce topic I've seen some very nice ones, though some others (like the recent morytania ones) that I didnt find that special TBH. I remember seeing this absolutely breathtaking image of the mithril dragon dungeon by someone, when HD just came out. Has got to be the best one I've seen on HD ever, seriously. If only he would read this (was on tip it).
  19. The point of the thread is to suggest that skills instead of combat should create high level items sometimes. I'm saying it would hurt the economy to do so because with an oversupply of high level items they would become too cheap and everyone who plays will be able to afford them in turn using the high level item to obtain other high level items crashing nearly all markets. Well, you didnt read properly. There'd be an oversupply if this kind of update happened without thought, and every lvl 99 skiller can gather them easily. The OP didnt suggest to just put in some easy obtainable high lvl items that only needs a high skill to be gathered. He suggests that it should require high skills AND a lot of effort/time to obtain. So far, skills have been reliable, steady incomes. Why not make a skill-luck-based money maker, like hunting dragon imps for instance. It doesnt have to be another "red chinchompa".
  20. Why a new account, and why, again, one with so much numbers?
  21. Very good idea. Could be something like dragon imps too. (some high lvl rock that randomly moves around (lol?), or ... (no inspiration).
  22. D squares defence: like 2-5 (not sure on exact numbers) higher than rune kiteshield. DFS: 20-30 higher than rune kiteshield. D square is junk. (I had one though, till recently)
  23. cuz i want one really quick and these are quick ask yourself why you want one. Dont spend time on stupid 99s unless your going for all 99s. I know this is a biased opinion, but I cant leave this trhead without responding. 99s in rs are a big anticlimax, trust me.
  24. Third age kite has fallen like 2M or so somehwere in april/may and it didnt crash...

287, another excellent read from you, compfreak. Efficiency wise, slayer isnt worth it, you are totally right. Not a a single arguement to throw in. On the other hand, efficiency wise, a lot of things wouldn't be worth it. Mith drags have been mentioned before. Dont ask me why, but from time to time, I like to kill those buggers, hoping for a 30m drop. Same goes for clues. That's the "fun" factor that's been discussed before, and I know, this isnt a counter argument or anything. Just stating the obvious, again. So, to conclude: You are absolutely right. Just dont forget to have some fun too, or otherwise we'd be chinning/killing aviansies/rcing/... all the time, which isnt always very fun, is it. As for troacctid: I have recently gotten 99 ranged and magic. I had gotten both to lvl 90 + without really grinding, however, I chinned 90-99 ranged, and bursted 93-97 magic + did some bolt enchanting to 99. Well, every xp I've gotten since then feels like a waste to me, seriously. I dont care about the ranks. I just think about how I could have done less enchanting, less chinning, etc. That's why I would find it really annoying to have 99 melees and only 50 slayer and "having" to train my melees past 99. This is ofcourse very personal.
