Relating Economic Topics to Runescape
Perhaps what we're witnessing isn't pure inflation? What I want to know is what is causing different items rising different amounts. But I'll get to what I think is causing it later, because I want to know and discuss what everyone else thinks. Your point about the SGS is a good one - you've identified an item that is isolated from several different variables, but I think it might be susceptible to other factors. I find this topic fascinating, and it helps me apply what I've learned. I don't know about you, but I like that. I would much rather talk to others and learn from them than to write everything and have people say, "I like what you've written". That's probably why I like forums much better than English papers or speeches. The difficult part is indeed what goods to measure inflation. It is somewhat difficult to make something like the consumer price index in our world. The closest thing we can get is the common trade index: http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Grand_Exchange_Market_Watch/Common_Trade_Index Thats because we dont get everything from ge, we also get many useful ingredients from npc stores. Npc stores sell at the same price no matter how the GE price (or black market price if ge fails like this: http://forum.tip.it/topic/248053-more-ge-fun/) changes. Do have a look at this article if you have time: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/KarlMarxHatesYourGuts

will jagex fix inflation?
Players can fix it by doing more monster hunting, stop alching, give up 76king and train their construction up. It is the player's economy not jagex's... It is the players who are screwing themselves up anyway. I hope jagex should stop trying to fix it, at least not this: http://forum.tip.it/topic/248053-more-ge-fun/

Cash is Junk
Getting rich quick IS a problem when you're not putting in any risk. The whole game is founded on the concept of risk versus reward, and when that balance is askew, so is the economy. The economy was better before trade was gone. We can agree on this, yes? Lets look at what happened there, though...Before, when the risk-reward was still unbalanced, but limited by several constraints (ie effort and time put in to create a successful merch/flip back on w2, limited rush weapons), the economy was better off. The more these methods became easier to acheive though, the more the economy suffered. Thus we are where we are today. Yes, you are right for the first part, but just please dont try to mix things up, ok? The market may be affected by the value of money and that may affect buying insentive which may lead to a change in supply and demand. However the value of money has nothing to do with the economy. It entirely depends on the supply of GP (there is no demand as GP is the only currency in runescape).

More GE fun
For those people who said the cap will stop merchants and make them cry... NO it doesnt! They just moved from GE to RSOF. The only suffers here are the buyers(could be you someday) who actually need lots of eyes/vials/super sets. Now you have to train your junkmaking to 99lv and go through all the troubles in rosf.

07-Oct-2009 - High-level Herblore Potions
Cost = product - materials... right? Alright theory crafting time: If you buy all the materials now, make them and sell the potions later... The potion might actually rise in price, because the cost of herbs and second ingredients are rising due to demand, it can lead to a cost pushed price increase. Maybe not as much as the rise of ingredients, buy hey you already have the materials brought right now! Also given that the end potions are used by the your fellow monster slayers and also is need for extreme potions... So you might have a chance of having a lower cost herb training if you ACT NOW! But I do hope the opposite happens like cooking, I just need cheaper potions :(

Broad Bolts vs. Slayer rings?
Dont forget both options cost 1mil, so if you are planning to make 500 rings and tele 5000 time with it, choose ring if you are going to make more than 13k bolts (to resell or use them), choose bolts else, just get the runes reward and sell them for 1mil cash...

Best pie for bake pie spell?
I understand this but, I am very patient in how I train my skills. I don't care if it takes 2 months to buy the pies as long as I get them eventually. Wild pies are good money if thats what you mean. I used to make them for the bones of "fur and seek" wish list. Raw chompy can be bought fast from ge. Other stuffs get be bought from oo'glog.

"buy 500"
Hmmm. I may be wrong, but wouldn't a simple nth term algorithm work here? Can't think how it could be done at the moment, but I'm fairly sure it would work, as the increase in prices is linear. Yes, you are absolutely right! I can confirm this, the price change is indeed constant. (Eg, apples is always +1gp and spice is always +7gp) All they need to do is to record/calculate the no. of stock which the price changes after that point! And yes, buy-1 500 times have the same computations as buy-500 once. So i guess Buy-x is possible by merely substituting 500 into a user defined parameter.

"buy 500"
The price recalculating is the "nightmare" part. They must have some clever algorithm/formula or else they will have to recalculate 500 times (!) or what ever the frequency the price changes per stock left. What I said was, they could have already calculated the price at each stock level and basically just do a sum of the list when each player buys. But by anyway, that shouldn't make any difference in computational time for "buy-500" or "buy-x" at all.
-
"buy 500"
Impossible...what are you talking about? There is already a "buy 500", which can buy 499 of an item if there is only 499 or whatever the amount of the item left in stock. That is exactly the "nightmare" you are talking about and it is working smoothly in game. And whats the computing difference between buying 500 at a time of a 2998 stock of bolt tips and buying 2998 at once? 6O(n) = O(n) Nothing. Did I said that before, I think I did in a few post up. I dont really know how it works, but it was there before in lumbridge chest and clearly it work exactly the way you claimed it is impossible. I am not going into the details like [Caution: Jagex Rule Violation]isthebest freaks, but they can just precalculate with their awesome computer and make a price table for each stock of each shop items as there is in fact have a maximum stock.

"buy 500"
They can just have buy-x for everything, like it was before.

Profit from dailies?
(everything below is round down to nearest 10th, so you should get more than I calcualted) Battle staff gives 1k per staff. Seaweed currently gives 270 per weed. Pineapples gives 160 per pineapples. Bucket of sand gives 200 per sand. Flax gives 70 per flax. Bork actually pays you 2.8k+1.6k+0.8k+0.4k+random amount of money if you sell everything it drops. But you have to eat/shoot bolts, so just ignore the random money part as food cost/ammo/runes cost. Kingdom should at least pay you 150k per day, but you usually get more than that from gems, crystal keys and other random stuff. (To be safe, keep 1mil in the coffer and move your house to fremmy) So you should be getting 64k+21.6k+12.8k+16k+8.4k+5.6k+150k= 278.4k per day ignoring teleport runes and stuff. Not much, but should be able to beat the current inflation rate. (but kingdom alone should do, if you are lazy)

smoke devils
Got 61 summoning from penguin points today and I am wondering should I buy smoke devils as combat familiar? Just want to hear a few words from anyone who have used them before. From what I have gather from forums, it is easy to buy from ge, it is a not a melee combat familiar (which is good) and it crimson familiar. I am currently using dread fowl (<- great chick) and evil tunip but they are inaccruate and they are just for annoying other players in pvp minigames. Is smoke devil accruate enough to hit mid leveled pve monsters? Also, usually how many scrolls can I normally use with each pouchs?

"buy 500"
Dynamic price was working when buy-x was there. In fact if you try buying 1 at a time for 10 items, wait for the store to restock to full and then compared the money used to buying 10 at a time. It cost exactally the same. You should notice it recalculate the price of each item purchase no matter you choose buy 1 or buy 10. Thats also true, if you choose buy 500 from something that only have 10 in stock (thus buying all stock at once), the cost is exactly the same as if you click buy 1 ten times. (In fact it is cheaper to click buy 1 ten times, because the store would have been restocked by 1 or 2 before you bought the 10th item) I always buy apples at lumbridge chest and I know what I am saying. Lumbridge chest has limited stocks even before the stores update and it used to have buy-x. The only difference now is you have to click 9 extra times if you want to buy x9 items. You are too easy to get emotional and manipulated, thats why we have trolls in tip.it.

Runescape Account email Changed how can i change it back?
Try this: http://www.runescape.com/redirect.ws?mo ... pport.html State your problem and also ask them to forward to relevant personnel if tech support staff cant help with the matter.

"buy 500"
Thats exactly why programmers need customer feedback, so they know which part of the code need fixing. We are helping them to save time to make their program better, win-win. On topic, it used to be "buy-x" before the stores update, but after the stores update they change it to "buy 500" for no reason :? ... Are you alright?

Does the Halberd have a defensive option on it?
Almost all weapons including spears have a defensive mode on it.
-
Black Demons
You can hally them in Chaos tunnel as well, the whole place is essentially a safe spot.
-
trollz...
You can pretty much do the same at the south east corner of death plateau and right outside of the troll stronghold camps, each tent is basically a safe spot. But i'd suggest ranging first, so you dont have to worry about getting close to them. You cant kill someone who have no life.

Seers Diary
You can just buy cider under your kingdom. And yes, its faster to make 10 evil dave stew (3) rather than training those firemaking levels. Always use evil dave when you are just 3-4 level away, unless you know there is a pie or potion that would do the same.

Toads Vs. Ranarrs Vs. Snaps
What? If you dont take seed:cost of herb into account, how can you calculate profit? In your spreadsheet, your formula should be [herb price*(whatever your average yeild is)]-[seed cost] or else... how could it be done? And no, we dont take dead seeds into account. Not because we dont want to, but its just too damn difficult to take those into the formula. We just dont know the death % is. And no, there isnt anything that is always the best profit. Thats why we need spreadsheets or calculators. That isnt any difficult maths at all, you just have to check ge from time to time. snaps: 12.1k*6.86 - 64.2k = 18.806k kwuarm: 3833*6.86 - 6245 = 20.04938k

Since when kwuarm become underrated :? Toadflax is not recommand to stockpile at the mement, they are dropping fast... Start stocking spirit weed now if you need low risk herb seeds.

Broad bolts?
However 300 points = 300/35 runes reward = 8.57*250 casts of magic dart = 8.57*107k = 916.99k training cost!!! That means you have to make 916.99k / (126-56) = 13k bolts to break even.
