  1. Please show me the U.S government telling them to. It is easy to think the worst in a knee jerk reaction when you are supporting one party, but thinking more logically, it is more likely a business decision in the face of bad publicity in the non-U.S world. Many who are in opposition to wikileaks would not like to be using a company which aids them by letting them use their services.
  2. Skeptical, I think the difference is the media attention. The whole ordeal is getting worldwide headlines on many newspapers and news programs, not just in the U.S. There are many people massively opposed to what Wikileaks are doing, who have a chance of stopping business with Mastercard if they know they allow support through them. Bloodstain, the difference is that Anon have no legitimate legal power, the U.S gov does. The world is constructed in a way that those who have legitimate power, through the democeracy which is the U.S, have power. Those who don't have legal power yet still try to force terror and damage on others are terrorists.
  3. My saying you have no idea about history is not flaming, it is me debunking your argument when you try to bring the crusades into it. Simply put, don't use anything in your argument you cannot prove or back up with knowledge or evidence.
  4. dupin, I don't think anybody did call wikileaks terrorists. Anon who support them are though. However, they are answerable to U.S law if they practice in the U.s and their branches within should be. Skeptical, i don't think the companies want to silence him, they simply don't want to be associated with him. They are walking away from his profits to save the rest of their profits.
  5. If you show me when they have broken terms of service prior I will agree, but unless you can, saying they folded to U.S pressure means nothing. I'd also like to ask for proof of this U.S pressure. From where I stand, (outside of America) publicity of the wikileaks leak has been very large. Being associated with the person who started it all is bad publicity for any company. It would be more likely to be a business decision that any pressure from the government. But as I say, they are in their rights to cease 'trading' with whoever they want. Thinking outside of the box, this is a great publicity wave to get Assange rich. Wonder if that could have been his plan all along? I have seen crazier things before.
  6. Everything they did was within their rights as companies and any Wikileaks accounts set up would have had to agree to the terms and conditions. But just as you say what they did was freedom of action, so then can I say what wikileaks have done, and what Anon have done. They are online terrorists, and it is hard to argue otherwise.
  7. The above problem seems to have fixed finally. My first aura (that I've noticed): Aura reviving (03:06) Got it in a bolded item with (@)
  8. LMFAO. Next you'll say the Bay of Pigs and quarantine of Cuba was to prevent Castro from nuking the US. Sorry but you have no idea about history do you? The crusades cannot be attributed to one sole reason. Faux is right in that there were heavy political reasons for the crusades. If you want to have an informed opinion on the matter, go read a few books on the matter or I can try and find some notes I took from a few lectures on the crusades I took last year with a couple of world renowned Crusade historians and show you them. If not, then I would suggest you don't even mention the crusades in an argument as you will basically be saying pointless twaddle based on no evidence.
  9. But they were pushed forward. The one thing that I'm seeing from this whole ordeal is that this won't change the American Gov. It will make it worse. The reason is that it isn't the American people standing up in protest, going to the capital and rioting for change. It is a foreigner. If people want a more open government, they will take much more notice if they act for themselves than letting somebody else do it. People won't get off their lazy arses and actually do something which means the government has nothing to worry about. Once all this dies down, people won't have changed, they may vote slightly different but they won't have made any change for the better because they aren't doing anything.
  10. So if a website which openly supported Al Qaeda was censored in the US you would stand up in protest? Id you would that is noble of you, but I doubt as many would as who stand blindly by anonymous attackers.
  11. The difference is publicity, but I agree that it is bad. On bloodstains post about sites not being allowed to host news and articles on the anon attacks, it is what should happen. Anon are basically internet terrorists. They are stopping companies from doing business, therefore hurting their income. They are trying to spread fear in this manner. You would not think twice if a site which supported Taliban activities was taken down.
  12. The newest update is slightly annoying me in that it's stopping me from getting straight into the game. I've had it on favourites since I started the game, and It's always gone straight to the hero page when clicked. But since the update, it takes me to the main page where I have to login, even with 'Remember me' checked. Not game breaking but slightly annoying.
  13. Less ironic than an anonymous group fighting for freedom of information.

Those who make music, and therefore those who help them make money?

And that licence is the difference. Without it you are breaking the law.
  16. For once I agree with William Hague (never thought this day would come).
  17. Woah you guys got so far last time. I really should convince shiny to let you guys win for once. 0
  18. How do you now if your hero is effected by an aura?
  19. I would say you reckon wrong. The clan world is a very large part of Runescape. It has a very large weight with Jagex and has influenced a lot of updates. This is not just Pk clans, but skiller clans, event clans, mini-game clans etc. On penguin hunting, it is half organised through the RSOF, but it also relies heavily on clan chats. This was something championed by the above-mentioned clans. I am not saying that Runescape would not be here, but it would be a very different place and there is a possibility that a large portion of current players who are at the higher end of the level spectrum would not be here. Also, I'm not suggesting it is only Tip.It and RSC who have had an effect in this longevity of the game, but all the fan-sites which Runescape has. The thousands of players who use them for blogs or for posting achievements, would they still have the drive to play is they could not show them off? They could post them on the RSOF, but with it's no picture system and size, would it have the same effect on the user?
  20. Does it go by PID like other things in the game were changed to?
  21. The clan world is much more complicated than that. However, both of your examples should be joined into one. With fan-sites: Play RuneScape -> People want to compete in a clan -> Find Tip.It -> Player Runescape Without fan-sites, the last part of that process doesn't happen, or doesn't happen as efficiently. The reason for said player wanting to find a clan may have been that the rest of Runescape bored them, which, if there were no fan-sites with active clan communities, they then may quit the game altogether. There isn't one specific model which can be applied to any circumstance.
  22. You may think it is a ludicrous claim, which is exactly what I said in the first line of the first post, but fan-sites have had a large effect of the longevity of this game and it's lasting success. Take the clan world for example. The clan forums on the RSOF work, but they do not work anywhere near the way those here on tip.it and those on RSC work. The clan world would in no way have the strength it currently does, and therefore, you have to ask whether some of the things catered towards the clan world would exist too. For example, would clan wars have come into existence? To a player, a community is one of the driving forces to staying in the game. Jagex have taken time to introduce things such as clan chats to try and create communities, but for a long time, the only good places to create communities were fan-sites.

The music industry isn't a service. It is an industry. It isn't there to make your life easier unless it benefits the industry. An industry will do whatever it can to stay afloat and keep its profits. The government in turn gets money from taxes so wants to help keep said industry alive. The thing wrong with giving away millions of free copies of somebody elses work is that it is against the law. That person has worked to get to a stage where their music is wanted by people, but because there is this 'easy' way to get hold of it, they cannot sell it in the proper means.
  24. You know, I'm not forcing any of you to post here so if you think there is nothing to discuss, you can try not posting. My main thought is that fan-sites (not just tip.it) are creating a sort of barrier which is stopping a lot of the higher level players from quitting. Without the multiple fan-sites, many players would have gotten bored without the competition or discussions that happen. I would say that fan-sites are responsible for keeping a large amount of RS players still playing.
  25. There is a very large difference between pointing out a group of people and intolerance of them.
