  1. What's so confusing to me is how tight-fisted they are with their game client. Part of what WoW players love is that they can endlessly change their gameclient to display information that they want specifically so their game can be made exactly to their tastes (dps meters, drop comparisons, precise timer warnings, etc). If Jagex even opened up their client to allow for only changing the viewstyle (or just made those commands work for the general public), I think people would be pretty happy about it, especially Jagex being a bit more open (which I'm sure we all can agree upon heartily). However, this is but a pipe dream because that company is being run into the ground by fools who don't know how to keep its playerbase happy.
  2. LOL well i guess thats all folks HURRR HURRR One person has posted a vid of what everyone else was talking about!!! Now he's right hurrrr
  3. What makes me think that in the video, he examined the money in his band and it said "x coins". I don't think buffer overflow is the right term for what he did in the programming, such as forcing a null value for the total GP in his bank. Forcing a null wouldn't be THAT hard to do, especially with how the game engine has so many different angles it can be attacked from. What I think could cause this serverside is that I'd imagine that someone's bank has every single possible item stored in it, but with a <null> value if you have zero of that item. Or even barring that, he withdraws more than is in his bank, forces a <null> value, but manages to interrupt (<break> or throw exception) the error checking portion of the code that would go and remove that <null> value from the bank. Anything as simple as withdrawing more than your max cash (as in more than is in your bank) and then being forced away from your bank (I have no idea how to actually do this, I'm just conjecturing based off of what I've read about glitches historically) could trip this, or going through more complex means of doing this has potential for abuse. Also I have literally ZERO faith in jamflex bugtesting, especially after the big ROW bug and countless other exploits based off of the MAIN PURPOSE FOR THE UPDATE. So it's really not that difficult to believe that someone has gone through a bunch of backdoors to force this.
  4. I'm inclined to believe that it's legit. I don't trust jamflex outside of what is immediately evident, especially because of their past history of "protecting" the status quo. With how out of touch that company is with their playerbase and the consistent mis-management of every possible thing I would be impressed on jagex's part if they WEREN'T lying and the whole thing was a hoax. Or you can just call me a jaded 9.5-year vet... But the magic has somewhat left the game with the Gower bros no longer at the helm.
  5. Well... I wonder if this outage will make jamflex actually put some effort into customer support and tech support for their servers after this incident. Players aren't going to be happy. Also, had anyone else noticed occasional server lag/crashes for about a week? A friend of mine got ganked at nex b/c the entire team dc'ed at the same time. Hopefully they'll figure out you HAVE to spend some of the money you make off of your 30% subscriber base of bots has to be put at least a little on your servers. EDIT: Want some lulz? refresh the homepage every 10 seconds or so, the "currently online" count goes down by around 50 each time haha
  6. I've been very temped to exploit bugs that I've stumbled across (such as an MTK bug that instantly filled the storehouse), but I've always immediately reported the bugs as I've come across them and not told anyone else what they were and how I did it until several months later when the bug is presumably fixed. And while it is not botting by JaGeX's standards because it is input through a keyboard using no software systems, I have set up one of those drinky-birds (ya know, like the kind that "drinks" the water out of a cup) to press numpad 5 on my keyboard to alch a big 'ol stack of whatever while playing xbox haha and occasionally looking over to make sure I didn't get random event'd. (Mods if this isn't kosher to post, please edit this or PM me to edit, or both)
  7. So what's this "pirate spell sheet"? Is it a new spell book or new spells??
  8. hmm, I wonder who is making the decisions up at JaGeX tower... The last few months have been covered with great updates, and (as far as I can tell) everything has better. Now, with a 3k/15min cap on staking, I don't see how jagex thinks that this will help the game. Behind merchanting, staking is the driving force of the RuneScape economy. Whips were so sought after because they are amazing in duels. Godswords were so dang expensive because of the possible instant KO. Potions are so valuable because of their constant use in the duel arena that would create a demand for a supply. Now, with all of that demand disappearing, the rules of supply and demand state that the price must fall for the item to be market-sellable. If no one wants to sell things for a super low price, and if no one wants to buy anything at a super high price, only to use them sparingly, why buy them at all? Making a limit on how much you can earn is a grave mistake on JaGeX's part, since that's the reason why most people play. The chance to gain it all or lose it all. Now, with that gone, i'd expect a fallout of members, their principal source of income. In their best interest, and that of the game's, I hope that Jagex repeals this decision. I've been playing this game for five years now, and even then in RS1, there were horrible problems with bots. But, they've made themselves part of the game now. All though they aren't exactly good for the game, they've made a niche that the game has grown to need. All the measures that Jagex is taking against the bots is comparable to someone trying to get all the bacteria out of your intestines. Granted, some of the bacteria is bad, it comes with the good bacteria, which allow your body to process food better, and survive. If Jagex doesn't repeal this (in my opinion) horrible decision, I would bet money (but not more than 3k -.- ) on the game coming to a quick demise within the next year.
  9. Hmmm, I like that whole idea, but the inflation would be kinda rowdy... All in all, it probably would have the same effect on the economy as Construction did when it debuted, because it would be shocking the system, and making a HUGE change in how everything works. But yea, it would probably help curb alot of this massive deflation, and make it a little better to have a higher level.
  10. Really, all that I can see that has changed is the medium for which making money. On members servers, there are many more ways that need a little more... inventive thinking to mess them up, as opposed to killing the rune buying bots, or luring yet bots to the hobgoblins with dropped logs. Also, i'd have to agree with everyone else. This is an extremely well thought out and well written article, or post, or whatever lol. You should write for the times!
  11. This was a rather controversial article, but it had a few valid points. Yes, JaGeX is lowering the bar a little by making updates more geared to beginners, but have you been under a rock the whole summer? Pretty much the entire summer has been (mostly) higher-leveled oriented. As for me, i've been playing since 2002, so I can say with a fair degree of certainty that thing's haven't changed too much since the first days. As it was then, the lower leveled people tended to be a little brats (yes, even I was, for a while), while the higher leveled people tended to band together and help eachother, while thumbing their collective noses at the newbies. Not really all that much has changed, except for the balance of players. Look around you! How many times do you see higher leveled people helping other high leveled people? I (personally) see it happen on a fairly regular basis, this community as a proof of point. I still think RS is a valid game, with plenty of mature users, you just have to look for them a bit.
  12. whoever mentioned the race to 4.6 (or whatever) billion xp, Zezzy is a quater of the way there! 1,067,174,444 Total XP??? :uhh:
  13. Erm, Captianant? Not only is Captain spelled wrong, but it's completely original! *w00t*
  14. holy crap... 4 nonillion (yes, that's a real numerical value) possibilities? How long did it take you to figure that out?? lol
  15. Also, I don't think anyone has thought of killing high lv monsters with this... Just think.... Super pots + Piety = Pwnt Mith dragons! (or other dangerous beasts)
  16. I can't really find a response to all of this, other than agreeing with it. Everything you've said isn't from selfishness, but from an actual desire to do some good, actually caring about what happens to others. Such is a rare attribute. Sadly, as it being something uncommon, things like what you've described will happen naturally. As is the sad reality, most people don't care about others, only that they get what they want, when they want. Even more sadly, this isn't true just to RuneScape. Look around you, look at people you pass in the street walking down it. Give a smile, and see how few you get in return. The root of this problem is not one unique to RuneScape, is it the disease of society, and while horrid, can be counteracted. The best way to bring about changes in people's attitudes and outlooks is to show them that other people in this world really do matter. To bring about this change that would make the community so much better, there must be a core of people who are selfless down to their very essence. I submit this suggestion to you: Find those who want to affect a change in pace in this game, and band together, so that you might cause an affect that will be heard throughout the collective world of players, and one that will resonate with such intensity, that it cannot be ignored. Thank you for your time, and for actually giving thought to what you've just read.
  17. Ok, so every time i'd ever go to PC, things would go pretty well, but i'd never get do much damage to monsters. Now, whenever i'm playing, I have at least 100+ damage in the first 15 seconds of play, and ending with a minimum of 400+ Granted, there's more time to play in a game now, and being in the lv 100+ boats makes much higher leveled monster appeared, I find it kind of odd that I'm managing such high numbers with no real change to what I do. Has anyone else had this happen? Or would anyone really know why it's happening? (not that i'm complaining lol)
  18. I have no idea, I think it's to stop drop trading of full barrows, or at least to discourage it.. but if you drop it noted, everything is fine lol :-k
  19. meh, I wouldn't say that, but it is very popular
  20. No, Ive seen "selling easter egg 5m must be level 78 77 or 76 and meet at varrock bar unarmed. I don't get it...
  21. while as always a good read, there were some things that don't really add up with his comparisons. First- Since when does reality allign with RuneScape? If you die in RuneScape, you can pick up the peices, it isn't over when you die. Last time I checked, reality isn't like that. Second- Why should there be unwritten rules for an area that JaGeX made to be lawless? Anarchy is the whole point of the Wilderness! In RS1 (RSC), there were so many changes to the wilderness and dynamics of fighting that nobody really cared about how you fought. As long as it wasn't against the rules, and you won, you were the best. If I misinterpreted anything, I apologize, but alot of what you said just doesn't add up, or has severely flawed logic behind it.
  22. whatever it is, it'll be a huge dashwysd on JaGeX's part My vote's on whatever will bring blood craftng though
  23. Potaetos? Makes sence to me lol
  24. psh, I'd want a fire cape! How awesome would that be? lol
  25. wowser.... read the Tip.it acrticle lately? If there's a PVP area, and there aren't any written down rules that they have to follow, only rediculous "honor" rules, i'm pretty sure that i'd be as rutheless as I want! Besides, you don't even lose anything when you die there! I don't see why you didn't just load up on mage gear and barrages/ entangles and have some fun! I really don't see why you're whining about something that doesn't really matter....
