  1. well, the idea is that we want to try to shift away from the normal ranting and raving. we still want people to vent their frustrations, but rather than a 1 line unreadable post, we would like a thread which provides a starting point for a decent discussion or debate, rather than the poster getting flamed for whinging about something silly or their poor use of the english/1337 language. the changes suggested previously mean that we will not only get less of the cruddy stuff, but more quality rants.
  2. OH NOES!!!1! IT HS TEH SAEM NAEM!!!1!!! IT R RIPZ!1! REPORT!!11 Stop being a pretentious sot. Your idea wasn't good enough to make people want to rip it, and if you bothered to read, you'd see that this is actually different. yeah i dont this this is a deliberate copy of your idea. no need to act all high and mighty over one little monster suffocated by a page of other "suggestions". on topic: i think that this would be a great idea. theres no need to nerf either combat or the drops. the high combat level would be appreciated by high lvl f2pers, and that high level would keep away the would-be level 60s that might be interested in claiming the drops. perhaps a revamp of the ice caves, with a ladder from the ice giants/warriors, down to the f2p/p2p ice demon area, and then another ladder down to the p2p skeletal wyvern area.
  3. in regards to the asian miner comment: i dont think people should be offended. slick cat has done his homework. they actually pay people to sit in sweatshops and play the game to sell in real life. it isnt a discriminatory comment against asians, its a fact that they work in asian sweat shops "mining" gold. on the merchanting skill: it wont work. not only is it extremely complex, it would completely disrupt the game as it currently operates. many would quit. whilst i appreciate the time you took to put together your ideas, i dont think it would work without undue hassle.
  4. why did the rant of the week get cut? i thought it was a good idea at the time, and the rants chosen were actually quality ones. and that, neo, was during your holiday. but how many stickies does it take til the rants forum looks messy? perhaps reinstating the rotw would help. and maybe not deleting threads would go down well too...
  5. interest rates will cause massive inflation. if there were interest rates, they would have to be tiny. really really tiny. otherwise all the money drains would be negated.
  6. is the drawback to them the fact that you need to refill them every 15 shots?
  7. well, the only problem i see with that lies in my writing style. see, my problem is that while i can write great things on the spur of the moment, i cant rewrite them very well. i could make a try at rewriting my f2p vs. p2p rant, but i know it wouldnt be as good as the original as id be lacking the original feelings and attitude that i had when i wrote it. it is a good idea, though, and i would be happy to try to write my veiws on some things and see how they compare with other great ranters like zub and gid. true. but im sure we wouldnt mind helping you edit it. and i honestly think it would be a good idea to have these reposted. hell, can we get this topic stickied? edit: so so so so so off topic, but congrats ard choille on becoming an admin!
  8. i think we have to wait and let time tell if the sticky works. it certainly wont show overnight. perhaps if we asked someone to write a balanced response to an issue, then have that as a locked stickied post? for example, neo could rewrite the "f2p vs p2p" rant, and that could feature as a sticky for people to view. the same thing could go for the other rants forum veterans. maybe a well written, balanced argument would help more than a sticky full of spam?
  9. nup. none of it. nice metaphor though. i joke. its all good. and perfectly applicable. although it could be tip.it policy to lock threads instead of deleting them. only posts that strongly break the rules are moved to a secret hideout only the mods and admins can see. however, it leads me to thing: if a person sees that their thread is missing, might they not realise what they have done and continue to post again? i have to agree with zubedoo on this one. but it isnt neccesarily flaming. like zebra said ive posted links to this thread in various crappy rants. i dont consider that to be flaming. id like to think that them reading this and understanding their mistake is better than "p0mg ch00b." seeing as how some some people have stated that pop-up rants guides are objectionable, and that rewriting tag-lines and the rants guide can only go so far, perhaps passive moderating by the rants forum community can serve to be another solution to the spam problem. i didnt say you were, i said i was guilty of it though. as per above, (mild) flaming can be constructive in this case. zebra, i think we agree to disagree on this one. neon lighting is the answer. neo, i dont think "f2p vs p2p was your first post though. im certain i remember you posting before that. perhaps all your other posts got beleted.
  10. this is actually a very sensible idea. perhaps just a list of what not to post before allowing the creation of a new thread? This is a sad admission and reflects poorly on all who come here. Simply because a topic is unpopular to certain vocal/obnoxious people does not mean it does not warrant debate. What is worse in my opinion is that the rants guide itself has become a source reference for a lot of flaming. Far too many people seem to believe it is their right/obligation to burn a post that they see as being on a subject that goes against the guide. the thing is, posts like that have been around so many times that there is nothing new that can come from them. take a f2p vs p2p thread. if people were allowed to post threads like that, you dont need me to tell you that a flame war is all but guaranteed. there is also the consideration that by placing said topics on the rants guide no write list, it makes the jobs of the moderators significantly easier. there are enough dodgy rants out there as it is, and we dont need to unban these topics and increase the workload of the mods even more. i believe that the only time that all topics can be posted is when the rants forum becomes a place where mature debates can prosper. as it is now, there is no way that those topics would go flame free. im pretty sure ive been guilty of this at one point or another. however, after a while people do get annoyed at the lack of thought people put into what they call a "rant" and they really do need to understand that it isnt acceptable to waste forum space like that. either that, or if they reported the post and let the mods deal with it, things would run much more smoothly (so long as the post does not come with a flurry of bumps). but honestly, what reply other than "this isnt a rant" can you give to "p0mg m0r3 phr33 st00fs $ f2p!!!1"?
  11. this is just as vague and pointless as your last suggestion. and if you want to suggest a f2p monster, you have to do it in a way as to not seem to be whiny f2per wanting free st00fs. which is what you do sound like. and if you are going to crate a new monster, at least have some outrageous other element, like it drops a new weapon or is part of a new quest that f2p will never have.
  12. what did you expect from making this thread? its a java game, and jagex isnt going to put popular music into it. the music is appropriate for the game (which is why i never listen to it). i have never had sound on in game. just pull out whatever music player you use, turn of the ingame sound, and your problem is solved.
  13. oh. i didnt mean for it to come out like that. i take back anything which might have seemed to follow that train of thought. i wholeheartedly agree that through the ideas raised in this thread we can finally clean up the rants forum. anything else i said was said by my alter ego.
  14. wtf... it is people like you that earn mods unneccesary reputations...
  15. holy crap, you remember that? i dont even remember that much. much respect to you. unfortunately, i dont get what you disagree with.
  16. you definitely shouldnt become a mod. yep, the crown is still visible when you pm others (yet it doesnt appear on your own pm list. its quite strange).
  17. remove the rants forum completely... *ponders* yeh, it could work. youre right about it removing the one-post count complainers using the "well, im ranting" excuse. or how about runescape rants & debates (following the lines of the runescape bugs & suggestions forum)? rereading the previous ideas, i dont think any amount of "karma," post count or time limitations will help. idiots will still be idiots. edit: whats this station business stihl?
  18. somehow, i dont think that the 72 hour limit will help the rants forum that much. it doesnt seem like its the fresh of the boat newbies that are writing these rants. they come from the runescaper who has been around tip.it for a little while (and has played the game for some time) and feels the need to "vent their frustration" without reading all the other guidelines. i think the rewording of the forum tagline is the first positive step made. perhaps putting "discussion/debate" in front of "venting" would stop the pointless rants. so, no, i dont think that the time limit would help in any way. ps. i think we should thank ard choille for taking such swift action following the creation of this thread =D>
  19. so there isnt a single copy of either thread anywhere? edit: that is kind of what is stated now, and thats what we wanna aim for. yet even basic requests like that seem to go unnoticed. edit 2: in regards to the moderating, i dont think the mods are being lock happy, but leaving the threads to die a natural death doesnt seem to work. the thread creator has numerous bumps or "nobody has anything to say" posts, leading to further spam. i think the best course of action is to lock them straight away.
  20. in regards to your first paragraph, how does that relate to neo's post in any way? he never said that we should ban all rat meaters from the rants forum, its just that many people with a low post count seem to misunderstand the purpose of the rants forum. whilst it is a place for one to relieve themself of any in-game generated stress, at the same time it is a place to debate and discuss possible solutions to this problem. both elements must be present in an effective rant, not just "P0MG 1 ju5t gawt killz0red bai sum pur3 str ch00blet!!!1!!!shiftone!" this thread, and neo's past thread, are both effective in highlighting what the rants forum should be. he is far from hypocritical. frankly, i think most people (most people being those that dont make crappy rants) would agree that this thread is important in maintaining the standard of the rants forum. it is a mere shadow of what it once was. so, i encourage more of these "hypocritical" people like neo and the rants forum veterans to come back and make the rants forum worthy of being a part of tip.it.
  21. does it look like a dragon mace, but [bleep]ier and thinner? if so, its a jmod only weapon that ive seen a few of them weilding (ive asked about it).
  22. OMG OMG OMG hes back! yay! now get raichase back and zubedoo and all the others in here and lets clean up the rants forum! we missed you neo. oh yeah, on topic: i would love to see an end to the useless non-rants. so please, if you dont read the rants guide, at least read this (which should be the rants guide). ps. is your old topic being dredged up from anywhere?
  23. what? they havent done that in a long time.
  24. thankyou for the compliment elphinstone. why do you say that? there have been many, many threads bashing pmods. numerous ones in the rants forum, and there is another in this very forum. getting more posts than this thread. go figure...
  25. you obviously have never been banned for 2 weeks because you wouldnt let a mod "have his own spot", they cancelled the ban once i appealed it but still left the blackmarks and he is still a pmod its the reason i dont go to the guild anymore, i remember w77 used to be pmods only pretty much because people were getting banned left and right well im sorry you had to deal with one of the unfortunate people who got modded, and then a busy cs department. but cases like that are only a example of a small percentage of the mod community.
