  1. Thank you for the info. However, My parents now decided that I'll have to focus more on my drums now so I'll probably have to put off the bass until next year :S. However, I now at least know what brands to look for and stuff. Don't lock this, other people might find this useful still if they want to start.
  2. Did I ever say that? I was just trying to say that I'm not a "rap elitist" as you were trying to say. This is a very common misconception about "computer generated" beats. Yes, it might not be an actual drum set, but it still takes skill to make a beat that sounds good. You don't just press a "make beat" button to get a beat. You have to spend a lot of time working with a program such as Fruity Loops to come up with something that sounds decent. And actually, a very good synthesizer can sound like an actual instrument to someone who doesn't know otherwise. Well that's just stupid. Most Electronica that I listen to (Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream) sounds NOTHING like ANYTHING that could be used as a rap beat. Again, I ask: Have you ever tried making a beat, writing lyrics that fit, and actually rapping them? Beats are difficult to make if they are any good, lyrics that have to rhyme are incredibly difficult to write, and actually rapping and sounding good is not just "fast talking" or something that "anyone can do".
  3. Lol, I'm far from a rap elitist. I mainly listen to Metal. I do listen to some rap occasionally, but it's not like I'm putting down anything that you listen to, is it? What does that have to do with anything? Everyone who cries about rap sucking hates it for the same reasons. Lots of good rap has actual drum beats in it, as Nadril said. Also, I'm sure that you would say that techno/electronica would be music as well, even though it is very heavy on synthesizer usage, so how would that make rap any different? And about it always being the same thing just with different words, that's because you never tried listening to it to notice differences. Seriosly, the only thing all rap has in common is rapping and a beat. I could easily say all mainstream rock is the same too. It's all just people playing power chords and basic drum beats with an average vocalist, and they all play the same thing, they just have different words. That's nice, but you have to be getting rap music to stereotype off of from somewhere, don't you? err... Sounds awfully like that to me. It's fine that you don't like rap, but that doesn't make it not music. Did I ever claim to know you? You're a pretty stereotypical "lol i h8 rap rock is betta lol"
  4. I hate it when people say things like this. You probably won't listen. but I can attempt to change your mind. This already proves that you are a punk elitist, so you probably aren't willing to even try any other genre. Do you have any proof of this, that every person who has ever rapped doesn't like rapping? How about the older stuff, such as illmatic-era Nas and Beastie Boys, or underground artists like immortal technique? Underground artists certainly wouldn't be doing it for the money, since they wouldn't be making much of it anyways. Again, not every rapper relies on other people to write songs for them. It's now obvious that you haven't heard any rap outside of the radio/MTV. This is one of the worst arguements against rap, and one of the most common. How is it not music if it has Rhythm, dynamics, time signatures, and Melody? Have you ever even tried rapping? It's incredibly hard to do it and sound good, and is much more difficult than just "talking in a rhyme".
  5. Nah, that would be Pearl Jam or Smashing Pumpkins, or maybe Soundgarden.
  6. I have it for ps3, and I mainly play Cervantes. Darth Vader is so terrible...It took me about an hour to get the Apprentice. I've gotten all of the other characters, I think...How many bonus characters are there? And is there anything that goes in he blank space between Darth Vader and the Apprentice?
  7. Get Soul Calibur IV. Also, Rock Band is probably the best party game ever made, and is way more fun than guitar hero III imo (haven't played the rest of the series though).
  8. betlwedl is my psn. I mainly play Rock Band, but I may start playing Soul Calibur IV online or CoD4 (though I am dreadful at CoD4...). Just when you add me, say that you found my psn from here, and since I don't normally play online on rock band, if you want to, message me so we can set up a time, I'm ranked about 666 on psn for drums.
  9. I'm not going to give a response to your ignorance. It is true, Metallica is actually the most over-rated metal band, excluding nu metal bands. Coming from the person who used to have a Metallica avatar until adio exposed that you just copied your taste from lists of death/black metal bands...
  10. It isn't about an acid trip. It was written because The Beatles were getting mad that universities were analyzing theirlyrics, so the purposely made a song that made no sense to see what they would make of it. It is an awesome song though.
  11. No covers at all on disc, and none of the DLC has been covers since the European release (can't remember if it was in March or May).
  12. Thanks, to everyone. After looking at it. I think I'm going to go with the squier, as it's the most I can hope to afford any time soon.
  13. Thanks, even though this is my third instrument, lol. About how much money did your bass cost?
  14. I made the thread on the original Rock band. I guess that no one really likes it here though.
  15. Nope, I actually like the feel of it more then the les paul. The GH3 controllers only work with the 360 version of rock band. PS3, Wii, and PS2 users get screwed. It's going to be like that with Rock Band 2 as ell; the controllers are compatible on the 360 only because Microsoft forces Activision to make them compatible. if only Sony could do the same...
  16. Led Zeppelin is a band, not one person...
  17. I've been thinking about it for about a year now, but I've decided that I want to learn how to play bass guitar. The thing is that I have no idea where to start, as far as brands, amps, or anything like that. If it matters, I would mostly be using it for rock or metal, but I know it will likely be a long time before I can actually use it in a band.
  18. I take it you didn't try the drums? Honestly, I don't mind the strat that much.
  19. Haha, thanks, I already listen to Kamelot. the Black Halo is a pretty awesome album. To you, I would reccomend Gamma ray's album Land of the Free, especially the song "Rebellion in Dreamland". It's essential for anyone who likes Power Metal, IMO.
  20. @Intriguing: You listen to a lot of genres o.O. I didn't look through ever artist in your library, but from the metal I looked at, I'm going to recommend Nevermore, in particular their album Dreaming Neon Black. My last.fm is really inaccurate because it marks stuff I liked 4 years ago and really dislike now as having the most plays. So, I'll try to give a description of my taste: First and foremost, I love Progressive metal and Power metal more than most other genres. As far as metal goes, I also listen to some Thrash (mainly Megadeth and occasionally some Slayer or Metallica) and Black metal (only albums I have from the genre are Emperor's In the Nightside Eclipse and Burzum's Hvis Lyset Tar Oss, but both are incredible), but I really dislike Death. I don't only listen to metal, though. I also really like good Classic/Progressive/Alternative/Post rock too. I listen to some rap as well (nas, wu-tang clan, and Immortal technique), though it isn't my favorite. I've been trying to get into Emo lately as well, some bands I like being Circle Takes the Square and City of Caterpillar (those are actually the only ones I know). I'll provide my top ten favorite bands now: 1. Dream theater 2. Opeth 3. Pain of Salvation 4. Tangerine Dream 5. Red Hot Chili Peppers 6. Nine Inch Nails 7. Pixies 8. Emperor (if only for In the Nightside Eclipse) 9. Rise Against 10. Circle Takes the Square
  21. Bang bang, Maxwell's silver hammer came down upon his head Bang bang, Maxwell's silver hammer made sure he was dead True, that is one of the only exceptions. I think it was just the general catchiness that made them popular, but I don't know.
  22. They have nothing unique that would make me listen to them (Stratovarious) over an other Power Metal band, and their songs are boring (to me at least). Dragonforce is bad, but at least they have their computerized speed gimmick to make them slightly less generic.
  23. [hide=spoiler]You know he wasn't totally immortal, right?[/hide] [hide=spoiler]I know, but he thought he was when he was talking about how he got hit over the head and how he didn't age to that family at the restaurant. The only good parts after he got his suit were the "May I touch your body?" and the all-heart logo on the moon, imo.[/hide]
