  1. I agree, it should be changed... I mean, renaming it to e3e is just as good as e3e caution blah blah blah, either way it won't be something you could link to, and the majority of the people who would use this forum realize what an e3e is and what it could potentially be... I dunno, PM grin or somthing
  2. Mmm, on my old computer I had a problem where my cursor speed would jump to the slowest setting, so I would have to go in and manually change it back to the fastest one... never found out what caused it nor did I find a fix for it, but I never really tried either... Hope you have better luck then I did, but I don't have a clue
  3. Well you basically are buying a whole new system, or at least darn close to it. The only thing you should be careful about when upgrading a computer that old is that: You know the mother board will support all the new stuff your getting and it has all the correct pin sockets and the like. (For example, you wouldn't want to buy DDR RAM if your mother board only supports the old PC RAM)
  4. Make sure you have no spyware or virii. Scan with your AV, adaware, and spybot while in safe mode (if you don't know how to get into safe mode, search the forums it has been stated many times) After doing that, I would double check that your computer isn't over heating. To do this, either go into BIOS (not suggested if your not a techy person) or download mother board manager, which gives you specific information like what your Case temp is, your CPU temp, how fast your fans are spinning, ect... If you don't want to do EITHER of those, take the side of your case off, and then let your computer run for a while. If it doesn't shut down anymore, it means that it's an over heating problem (since now the heat was able to escape) In the case that it is the heating problem, just buy a few case fans for about $5 a piece at your local computer store, and toss them in your case (very easy to do if you just look at the other fans in there you will see how to do it, but if you can't just bring it to the computer store and they will probably do it for free in like 2 minutes)
  5. Linux is free, however there are endless ammount's over 'versions' of it, because of the fact that users have the ability to edit it \ get source for it. All versions are a little different... for the most part, once you get the hang of it, it is a breeze. It is just a matter of learning, and with differnt forms of linux that can be harder or easier depending on what you get
  6. Are your motherboards drivers up to date, as well as your BIOS?
  7. incorrect all the duped phats and stuff stayed because jagex had no way of telling which where. And where not wasting time searching them out when they where trying to get rs2 launched. also not 3000 was 900 banned and was called [ForbiddenSite]. ... Okay, now: 1) Not ALL the phats stayed, the did delete some and there is proof of people who had just picked up a pink phat after the dupers made a bunch and dropped them in varrock west, the next time the players logged in the phats were simply gone 2) There were multiple bans, go back through all the updates and see for yourself. One titles is "Cheating Scum Banned!" and later in the news you will see "More Cheating Scum Banned!" I believe the second one was 3000 people
  8. Woo.. i didn't know that window key + D minimises ur desktop.. i always use window key + M :o Both work, and to me it's still a mystery why MS thought they needed both. *shrug* Cameron, he might as well get 1.0.4 Prerelease. Sucky Extension install / JS exploit fixed :) They put both in for the following reason: Windows key + M minimizes the current window Windows key + D minimizes ANY open windows Windows key + M is simular to ALT + TAB in the sence that it will switch to whatever the last window was, and minimize the current one, however alt+Tab allows you to choose which window you want to go to, and will not minimize the current window. Wow that is a lot of 'window' *runs over to search for the word window* So yea, they all have a legtimate use
  9. In any case it would probably be better to go to a forum that is specifically set up for GTA:VC users, if this is a known issue I am sure they would be able to help alot better then us. On a side note, make sure your sounde card's drivers are up to date
  10. more like im wondering if anyone can beat it. Beat what? ... what, you want us to see how crappy of a computer we can build or something? Honestly, a $250 computer might as well be thrown in the garbage can.... it is like those rusty POS cars on the side of the road going for $300, sure they run, but they also leak oil, have a bad tranny, rusted sides, broken headlights, no radio, and a cofee stained interior. I suggest you save up some money and forget about anything under $550 (and that is without things like the OS, screen, keyboard, mouse, speakers, ect)
  11. .... he said it DOESN'T show up on other sites. Like previously mentioned, make sure your browser is up to date and the security settings on it are appropratly set OR use firefox (I HIGHLY recomend this) Not only is it alot nicer then IE but it is also a lot more secure. Also, get spybot (search download.com for it or read the stickies for a link) use adaware, make sure their definitions are up to date, and scan in safe mode with both of them. If you don't know how to get into sfe mode search the forums it has been mentioned many times
  12. no.... It is a known problem with firefox, for the last time people. Firefox is known to do this when you have a window open with anything java-based running. This has nothing to do with jagex and it is not their fault, it is, as far as I know, currently being sorted out by the community over at mozilla and will hopeflly be fixed someday soon
  13. Actually many times it is about users not being secure enough... had you been secure you would have a virus scanner, firewall, adaware, spybot, and housecall. Not to mention using firefox rather then IE or atleast setting the securty settings for IE higher... then you wouldn't be getting that message. Also ALWAYS keep your definitions up to date and your version of windows up to date. maximus, I suggest you go to the tech and computer's board and post a hi jack this log
  14. look up 'frigates' As for the idea it self, it is just okay... but I really don't like any of your idea's on the matter. The general concept of it is fine though
  15. I always hit "print screen" when I first log in, if I notice my character would be moved or stuff is missing THEN I would look at the IP
  16. If you want another download manager, search download.com for "aligators" It works for me and is great. You can pause and restart downloads and well... manage your downloads. Might wanna give it a try
  17. Well I'm not a computer genius, but I couldn't find it, seeing as it's an update and not a program, nor a windows component. Maybe a simple system restore and reinstall would do the trick? Go to add/remove programs It should be called "windows hotfix #####" Just take the very last one (the most current update) and uninstall it
  18. -right click my computer, and go to properties. -Then click on the tab taht says hardware -select "device manager" Look underyour DVD/CD-ROM drives and see if you can find your external drive in there. If you see it but it says it is uninstalled or something of the like, choose to install it. If it isn't under there, look under the "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" (in the case that it is hooked up via USB, it may be under there) and do the same as mentioned above now restart and see if you still get that message... in the case that you do: NOTE: ONLY DO THIS STEP AFTER DOING THE THINGS MENTIONED ABOVE As for the ATA problem, that could be numerous things... but given the name: -right click my computer, and go to properties. -Then click on the tab taht says hardware -select "device manager" and look under "Disk Drives" and\or "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers"
  19. Lol pyro, I love how you left that open ended and the topic unlocked... so mysterious!! dun dun duuuuunnn!!!!
  20. zonda replied to Uldric's topic in Tech and Computers
Not gonna happen, not when it comes to MS at least
  21. Ahh.... I remember the problems you were having  If it isn't drivers, and nothing is comflicting... then I am not sure. I would either say A) Speakers are going bad B) There is a short in the wires for the speakers C) The sound card is going bad Try testing the sound with a different set of speakers, if it still happens it may be the sound card. Might want to get a second opinion though before you buy a new sound card incase it is a different piece of hardware malfunctioning Hope I helped
  22. Clicked reply instead of new topic? As for the article: The software is in beta, and this is clearly stated. Any software that's in beta is of course still in development, and is not perfect. I'm sure google did not intend to make users' private information avaliable to others. Oh and they say everyone worships google? I don't think so. But I found thisinteresting though... I would also like to add that 99% of information, if not 100%, given at somethingawful.com is not to be taken seriously... the site is based on jokes and gags. It is supposed to be funny stuff
  23. Okay seriously you guys... there is already a topic about this, feel free to spam in there  Obviously we know people are having problems... restarting worked for me and numerous people, and didn't work for others. Why I don't know What I do know is that you guys need to calm down and ride the storm out like everyone else. If you miss 2 hours of runescape it isn't the end of the world
  24. Not just video card drivers but any drivers that may have been deleted if you installed windows xp over another OS, or all your drivers if you completly reformatted your computer. Also make sure your browser is updated, as well as all your security things
