  1. Putting it as less of a gateway drug than alcohol or tobacco is as good as it not being a gateway drug when people aren't saying either of them are. You weren't calling either of those gateway drugs so your statement about marijuana being one was BS. I'm sure some small percentage of cocaine users had previously taken progesterone - do people call that a gateway drug? No. It is all relative. I do not agree it is a gateway drug. That is just a (largely meaningless) name that is thrown around during these arguments and I was using it for the sake of debunking your arguments. The study you cited doesn't even support what you're saying. They say LESS THAN HALF of the twins who smoked marijuana went on to harder drugs! These were people who had already made the decision to use illegal drugs, not been given a legal one then went on to illegal ones.
  2. Next question is... Who's getting 3.0a1?
  3. I know what processes are running, I know which are required system processes, I know which are user-initiated processes. Basically I know exactly what is running at any one time, I keep process explorer open on my second screen at all times. It isn't a security problem because in my eleventy years of computing I know the effects of a security problem and of a software problem and this is the latter. The thing is I don't know what software is causing it or quite how to narrow it down when the problem is only occasional. I've been using PCs for at least 15 years, officially studying computing for 5 and I am qualified to tell you that my computer is secure enough.
  4. If you're going to say "look at the proportion of tobacco smokers who went on to do coke" then that's invalid - the number of coke users in the end is still the same, the same number used one drug first and went on to others. Look at the number who used tobacco first and then went to weed - same story. Smoking the weed itself had absolutely no influence on whether they wanted to take hard drugs - they had already decided to break the law to smoke it. Because of this making it legal would, if anything, make it less likely for them to continue to harder things as they would not have had to break the law already. The only reason it is a small step between weed and coke is because weed is also illegal. This does not make it a gateway drug.
  5. Gotta disagree with you on this one dare, youre saying that things like Alcohol and Cigarettes should be banned while other things like Ecstacy, Methamphetamines, and Cocaine should be legal? Think about that for a second. No, you think about it for a second. After reading what he wrote. He said that they should be made illegal based on addictiveness. You claimed he said he wanted ecstasy, speed and cocaine to be legal when he actually said the opposite. You claim he wants them to be legal when in actuality he would want them banned based on their addictiveness. Speed & cocaine are some of the most addictive drugs and so he'd want them banned. Read his post.
  6. That is BS. Interview 100 cocaine/heroin/speed users. Ask how many of them smoked weed first, note it down. Ask how many smoked tobacco first, note that down too. Compare the two numbers. See that tobacco is more of a gateway drug. Do the same thing for alcohol. Do the same for caffeine. Marijuana is less of a gateway drug than either tobacco or alcohol, very simple. Newsflash - almost all alcoholic drinks are mainly water. Beer - 5% ABV - what's the other 95%? Almost entirely water. Wine - 12% ABV - what's the other 88%? Almost entirely water. Liqueurs - 22% ABV - what's the other 78%? Almost entirely water. And of course this doesn't happen with alcohol.
  7. Well on my default isntall of GTA:SA moving your mouse circles the camera around your character and changes the direction in which they'll move. If you were talking about aiming a weapon then yes, you have to hold the right button because it zooms in on some of them, something you wouldn't want when you're normally walking around.
  8. Erm, I don't know what you've been playing but I've played every GTA there is for the PC and not one of them required that you do that. What's more, all the controls are redefinable.

I thought 1 was good, 2 was too obvious and I don't hold out much hope for 3.
  10. First of all that isn't true. Secondly, people smoke 20-40 cigarettes a day and maybe one joint a day. Even if it were true they'd be getting less tar.
  11. I am competent to make my own decisions thank you very much. There is actually a reason to be running SP1 just I can't talk about it here. What's more this has nothing to do with my problem as I've been running SP1 for over 3 years. I have not had a single security intrusion, virus, trojan or worm because I have something called common sense. Thanks for an unhelpful post.
  12. I'm with the ban all or ban none crowd. However, because of how I am and how it would barely affect me, I'd go for ban all for simplicity's sake. In the real world though, I'd go with Insane on banning based on addictiveness.
  13. I'm talking about the forum images. Not user uploaded images.
  14. I would have responded to the other topic but it is locked. Is it just me or are all the images kaput again?
  15. I am on XP Pro SP1. I have been having some problems with not being able to drag certain things. It isn't just drag & drop of files, it affects column widths in 'details view' on explorer, firefox tabs, start menu entries and so on. When I attempt it no error message is given, the item just starts to drag and then resets back to its original position, as though I had released the mouse button and then it will stay there. It is as though something is constantly trying to steal focus - I tried dragging a folder in a window behind firefox and the focus instantly switched back to firefox. It isn't firefox, however, as it still happens when FF isn't running. It also still happens when everything is minimised. Dragging some things like a scrollbar works fine, as does dragging to select text. I checked using 'unlocker' to see if anything had locked the file I was trying to drag, but nothing had. Things I have recently done: Got a logitech MX Revolution mouse. This has been ruled out as the cause - I have tried disabling the logitech software and using my previous mouse - the problem still occurs. Installed the latest nvidia drivers. I installed 91.47 andthat's when I started noticing it, but I have tried installing the 92.91 beta drivers and it is the same. I can't necessarily do a 'rollback' as I don't use system restore. I have tried adding these registry keys as suggested in another forum: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_ed ... gndrop.reg but it doesn't fix the problem. I have also tried running these commands and rebooting: regsvr32 ole32 regsvr32 /i shell32 ********** Things I am running other than the standard system processes (since these forums censor .exe I will replace that with .x ********** rapimgr.x - ActiveSync for my PDA - been running it since long before this started happening. nvsvc32.x - Nvidia driver helper service v92.91 iSafe.x & vetmsg.x - both antivirus components - both been running since long before it started happening TaskSwitch.x - MS powertoys alt-tab enhancement - been running since long before it started happening CAVTray.x & CAVRid.x - more antivirus processes, again been running since long before it started happening soundman.x - onboard sound manager - been running since long before it started happening. MBM5.x - motherboard monitor - been running since long before it started happening. TBPanel.x - graphics card management utility - been running since long before it started happening. wcescomm.x - activesync again - been running since long before it started happening. Launchy.x - application launcher - problem started shortly after getting this, but I have tried running without it and it still occurs. SetPoint.x - logitech mouse utility - problem started shortly after getting this, but I have tried running without it and it still occurs. Client.x - samurize system monitor - been running since long before it started happening. Rainlendar - calendar app - been running since long before it started happening. Proxomitron.x - advert blocker - been running since long before it started happening. procexp.x - process explorer - been running since long before it started happening. firefox.x - browser - been running since long before it started happening. uTorrent - guess - been running since long before it started happening. trillian.x - MSN client - been running since long before it started happening. ********** That's all I have running in addition to standard windows processes. ********** Can you think of what could be causing this? Or what I can do to fix it? If you don't know of anything, but do know of another forum where you think it would be good to post this, please let me know of it. I just don't know where else to ask. Do not give me any stupid answers like 'reinstall windows' or 'use linux'. No one thinks that is funny.
  16. Do go ahead with the sleepover, just be sure to get your cootie shots beforehand.
  17. Well, as a replacement for iTunes. I use it to put music on my iPod and organise playlists. I'm probably going to get married in a couple of years, once I've finished my masters.
  18. Surely if it is for eternity it is a bigger deal than engagement, which has the potential to be cancelled? :uhh:
  19. The SSID is the Service Set Identifier. It identifies the network. If you want your network to be secure then you should hide it then enter it in the network settings of all client machines. WEP is Wired Equivalent Privacy. It encrypts traffic to and from the access point and is very easy to crack in a relatively short time by sniffing the encrypted packets. Don't use WEP if you want a secure network. WPA is Wi-fi Protected Access and WPA PSK (Pre Shared Key mode) is what you should be using to have a secure home network. This involves having a common password for all users - make it long and random.
  20. Since I got my iPod (3 years ago now) I have used EphPod, though not for what you said. I use it because it's a simple, BS free alternative to iTunes.
  21. They have an easier life, but easier doesn't always equate to better.
  22. I found there was a setting in the tabbrowser preferences addon which sorted it. I too like the session restore feature, it is particularly good when you've just downloaded an addon or update of some sort and have to restart FF.
  23. I have had it since beta 1. I don't like the new skin (assuming it uses the one from the betas - I replaced it with one to make it look like original FF), I don't like the tab-scrolling, I preferred it when they bunched up all small.
  24. There was one a long time ago. I can't remember what happened ago. It was an 'introduce yourself and ask any forum-related questions here' sticky.
  25. Also remember to remove the american setting once you've sorted it all out. Otherwise you might end up with that annoying language bar on the taskbar.
