  1. Ahh, my brother had the Taj Mahal one of those. Puz3D I think it was called. Or something similar.
  2. You may well find that, unlike you, he is a little too old for gym class.
  3. This is posted on behalf of the user Lateralus. He can't post it himself for reasons which will become apparent. He is unable to access any webpages. MSN works fine for him, as do all other services aside from HTTP. HTTP works fine on his brother's computer, which connects to the interweb through the same router. He has tried resetting the router several times, to no avail - all the while his brother's computer can access pages just fine. He has also tried using FF and IE, neither of which fix the problem. It is unlikely to be a DNS problem because his machine's DNS settings are the same as those on his brother's machine - both set to acquire a DNS automatically. He is also unable to access pages by entering their IP in his browser. There is one fishy thing though: in his IE settings it has an automatic proxy configuration script entered (http://localhost:9100/proxy.pac). When he tried to remove it, it was replaced as soon as he reopened the settings window. This setting does not appear in FF though. He's on XP SP2 Here are his running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccProxy.exe C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\ISSVC.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SNDSrvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SPBBC\SPBBCSvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXBCES.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\IWP\NPFMntor.exe C:\Program Files\Analog Devices\SoundMAX\SMAgent.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wscntfy.exe C:\Program Files\Winamp\winampa.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_05\bin\jusched.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lexpps.exe C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe C:\Program Files\Google\Web Accelerator\GoogleWebAccWarden.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\sistray.exe C:\Program Files\ZyDAS\ZD1211 802.11g Utility\ZDWlan.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe C:\Program Files\Google\Web Accelerator\googlewebaccclient.exe C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\AcroRd32Info.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Dan\My Documents\Unzipped\hijackthis[1]\HijackThis.exe Here are his running services: R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,AutoConfigURL = http://localhost:9100/proxy.pac O2 - BHO: AcroIEHlprObj Class - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SDHelper.dll O2 - BHO: Google Web Accelerator Helper - {69A87B7D-DE56-4136-9655-716BA50C19C7} - C:\Program Files\Google\Web Accelerator\GoogleWebAccToolbar.dll O2 - BHO: Windows Live Sign-in Helper - {9030D464-4C02-4ABF-8ECC-5164760863C6} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live\WindowsLiveLogin.dll O2 - BHO: Norton Internet Security - {9ECB9560-04F9-4bbc-943D-298DDF1699E1} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\AdBlocking\NISShExt.dll O2 - BHO: NAV Helper - {A8F38D8D-E480-4D52-B7A2-731BB6995FDD} - C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll O3 - Toolbar: Norton Internet Security - {0B53EAC3-8D69-4b9e-9B19-A37C9A5676A7} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\AdBlocking\NISShExt.dll O3 - Toolbar: Norton AntiVirus - {C4069E3A-68F1-403E-B40E-20066696354B} - C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll O3 - Toolbar: Google Web Accelerator - {DB87BFA2-A2E3-451E-8E5A-C89982D87CBF} - C:\Program Files\Google\Web Accelerator\GoogleWebAccToolbar.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinampAgent] C:\Program Files\Winamp\winampa.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_05\bin\jusched.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [siSPower] Rundll32.exe SiSPower.dll,ModeAgent O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [sTYLEXP] C:\Program Files\TGTSoft\StyleXP\StyleXP.exe -Hide O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [msnmsgr] "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe" /background O4 - Global Startup: Run Google Web Accelerator.lnk = C:\Program Files\Google\Web Accelerator\GoogleWebAccWarden.exe O4 - Global Startup: Utility Tray.lnk = C:\WINDOWS\system32\sistray.exe O4 - Global Startup: ZDWlan.lnk = ? 4. I was under the impression that Tanya wasn't a tip.iter?
  5. CustomizeGoogle is good, as are Flashblock, IE View, ForecastFox, Greasemonkey & Menu Editor.
  6. I don't know if there is necessarily a reason for why it won't run on XP Home, it may well be that MS just want you to pay for pro.
  7. Does one have to compile the nightlies themselves, do you know?
  8. Do you know when a functioning alpha of 3.0 will be available? I mean one suitable for a non-developer who doesn't mind using occasionally unstable software and reporting bugs.
  9. You really aren't very knowledgeable are you. Yes, it is run by users, but the entire concept of wikipedia is that it cites its sources, meaning the user who added that text has to cite the source for that claim which, if you could be bothered looking, they did. What's more, you should also know that it is quite possible to put SP2 on a non-legit version of XP. I didn't do that because mine is legit, but it is quite possible.
  10. Well you don't know very much then. I didn't want to use SP2 because I didn't like the fact that many programs had incompatibility issues when it was released. Since I didn't want to risk any of mine having such issues I didn't bother. Very simple answer then: if you don't want to help - don't post. Besides, I got even more annoyed by this problem and I did install SP2 - something which, by your rationale, makes my operating system legitimate. Will you stop trolling yet? ...And the problem is still there.
  11. Haha, you couldn't live off the interest on that... First of all, high interest accounts might offer as much as 10% annual interest - that's $5k per year - not much to live on. Secondly, they generally mean you can't access your money until a certain time.
  12. Well since I'm a Brit I assumed ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã50,000. But that's because stuff is more expensive here too. My loans are around ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã10,000 and a masters fee is ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã3,500 and then there's living expenses on top of that.
  13. Pay for my university loans, pay for my masters, buy a motorbike, buy another computer (with Apple 30" monitor), save the rest for a house.
  14. What on earth are you talking about? I did pay for XP. Now get lost and stop trolling.
  15. Sex IS a much bigger problem for americans. Take the example of Vampire: Bloodlines: There were two scenes to take note of - one in which a woman shows her boobies. One in which a man gets executed by having his head cut off with a sword. In the USA, the boobies were censored. In the UK, the decapitation was. Which do you think is a healthier attitude?
  16. Yeah, that's why I tacked on the bit at the bottom about letting me know if you can think of a better place to post this. I didn't honestly expect a solution here, but I thought I might get a pointer in the right direction.
  17. You never got the loading screen when you are starting the game? Or when you're loading a new game?
  18. Funnily enough I got to 98% completion on GTA:SA but I never bothered to see what Hot Coffee was like. Anyway, I don't think it could be any worse than the sex scene in the adventure game Fahrenheit (a.k.a. Indigo Prophecy).
  19. The two things that can generally make my day are lectures being cancelled and deadlines being extended.
  20. Don't forget you can mod pretty much anything.
  21. Happening here now: http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=558014&start=220
  22. I was under the impression that I had a dictionary installed, but I didn't. I have in installed one now and it works. I've used alphas before, I used at least one of the 2.0 alphas (if there was more than one) - simply because I was having problems with the stable version of 1.5.whatever and figured I might as well try an alpha. I don't remember having any problems, aside from incompatibility of extensions. That said, I don't use many so it wasn't a big deal.
  23. How exactly does the spellchecker work? I've got it enabled now and I don't notice anything when I'm typing posts and deliberately spell something wrong.
  24. Using your terminology, all soft drugs are gateway drugs. However, because weed is no more of a gateway drug than others you can't use it as an argument against weed specifically. You can, however, use it as an argument against all drugs and I would agree with you on that. I would be happy to live my life free of recreational drugs.
