7-Jan-2014 - Player-Owned Ports - The Next Journey
xpx replied to Saradomin_Mage's topic in General Discussion
It really doesn't matter if you skip it or not. If you don't have a good sync anyway, do it, otherwise, don't. The worst that can happen is that it comes back when you have over 600 azure and you lose that(but azure really isn't that precious). -

Na, other way round. But yeah, it's a known bug that it rarely doesn't happen. I've already rolled 5 exiles so it's not that much of a worry. Anyway, 5.1m isn't max distance  -

My optimal crew is 66544 based on the fact that i'll be using exiles on both S and MC missions for speed and that there are very few single stat TG missions. I will also have biologist, missionary and whaler icons, which all give missions i'll need an exile for. Thought i'd be done with ports today, but nooo. 5M isn't max distance :wall: Inb4 10m is max distance =P I'm still hoping it's 5.1m... I'd murder you if it's actually 10m, though ;) And when it isn't 5.1m, you probs going to say: Oh well then it maxes at 5.2 etc. Na, 5.1 because that's 1m more than what is needed to reach the shield. It's also already nearly 30% to the next region. You also have to consider why they have fleet admiral at 3.5k, because if the max distance is over 5.1m, max PS would be over 3.6k. -

Dwarf weeds, lantadymes, (blood runes), addy bars, rune bars and magic logs should be the ones that make for significant profit(and stack). Don't pick up rune spears if you aren't alching. Which, i don't think you should be. This would make for around an hour long trips.

The overnight phenomenon of "redesign!" to "give me master capes!"

Nothing that a few pints of beer wouldn't fix, aye. -
DW darts seem fine, and magic notepapers are a great alternative to simply leaving the bones or bonecrushing. I was safespotting melee-position ones, but I'm sure that dramatically decreases XP/HR, and it also made Steel Titan difficult to use at times. Picking up the bones is the issue. 450k an hour is achieved by only picking up around 1/6th of the drops and being very fast. With alching drops and banking bones that can get to as low as 250k an hour. You also have to consider that magic notepaper is 2-3k each in itself, not free as some people might like to think. Another tip is to use knock-out aura(and obviously, as you said, only attacking those currently weak to your style). I also prefer bonecrusher+demon horn+100% soul split for the simplicity. Overall, it's a question of whether you want 450k xp and 2m gp or 350k xp and 3.5m gp an hour.
-
Somehow noone has mentioned airut. You will need ascensions for them(or atleast main hand plus dart), but they can get to as high as 450k ranged xp an hour plus 2m an hour(more if you bank bones but LOL) from drops. I haven't tested death-lotus darts there but i'm guessing they won't be sufficient. Don't forget to bring a steel titan.

You could be a little more specific in what you are looking for. I doubt anyone is going to make full 3D charts of attack roll vs. defense roll vs. DPS for you. It would also be helpful if you said whether you use only abilities or momentum(for barraging). In any case, with abilities, as already stated, damage is limited by the book/orb you use.
-
As i brought out, there are multiple ways to look at this. Right now, you are basing it on the notion that a real world method is 100% efficient and you are going for 200m all skills. However, If you consider the challenge itself as the 100% efficient method, the lineup will undoubtedly change(basically you consider yourself getting 200m in a skill solely with challenges).

Shortbow and knives should have very similar DPS(bow has advantage on auto-attacks while knives have slightly higher ability DPS). Bow is best because of sniper ring.

What Regular People Think of RuneScape (RS3 vs OSRS)
xpx replied to Piu's topic in General Discussion
The points in favor of 07scape also apply to RSC, but noone is playing that... Really, you need to move on. Runescape wasn't super popular in 07 because of the gameplay and graphics. -
best dual weapons for melee are none(2h weapons have higher dps). Ranged is the best style because of 2 DPS increasing ring styles.

I hate afking in scape. 8k sounds really low yeah. I'll likely continue with dg challenges, but will look into what the rewards for farming/prayer are(given that those only take 10 seconds to complete).
-
I usually only play an hour or less a day, so that may sometimes be in the consideration. I also can't be arsed to do anything i don't enjoy in scape, and 20 minutes of agility every day would kill me. If you don't value the xp past 99 very high, you are basically stuck with doing things you hate for the little time that you do play. Basically, you are accounting the real world method as 100% efficient and i'd like you to consider the challenge itself as the 100% efficient method(which it usually is). What is the payout on slayer? Given that it is one thing i do enjoy in scape.
-
I'm in a similar situation, however, i'd like to add another twist to the question- the time it takes to complete the challenge. As far as i looked, farming(plant a herb) and prayer(bury 5 bones) seemed very fast, but is there anything better? Also, is there somewhere an xp table for the rewards?

Given that the average rate of shield captains is 1/6, beggars can't be choosers. Once you actually have the choice, 212 is the best one with the second seafaring captain having 4x multi-talented. -
Post all RS Screenshots, Videos, and Sounds here!
xpx replied to misterxman's topic in General Discussion
This is probably the most embarrassing thing I've done in my life... First time to max. Thought I'd never get here since I stopped doing things I didn't enjoy on scape about 6 years ago, but bxpscape evidently had something to say about that... Up to 109 dungeoneering was done with DGS, thereafter about a 50/50 dose of solo meds and daily challenge xp. I will not be vying for comp cape- not going to enslave myself at livid. -

The example addressed the point by Sy perfectly, but not something that you also felt it should have afterwards. The example was about a previous point, not the one afterwards. Again, examples do not explain the system in detail and do not need to(and usually aren't) be very universal. Back to that example, if you have sailed enough distance, you gain the experience to take your ship further. This is exactly the same with xp and levels. Once you have enough xp you learn how to make things of greater difficulty. To your arc example, making tens of thousands of bronze axes doesn't exactly teach you how to make a dragon platebody, either, but that's the way experience(and distance) is considered in the game. I'd say toddlers explore the world much like we do in ports(by repetitional exploration they gain the confidence to explore the world further). -

So by that logic you don't understand the concept of an example... But yeah, it makes total sense the way distance is given, particularly as it pertains to failure. The only thing that doesn't make sense and should go away is that you only get half distance for previous region missions. Come again? I'm not arguing whether or not the distance system makes sense, but the logic Sy_Accursed used in his example. Even if one would have heard stories about far away places he would still need to travel there to discover it. If you simply travel to the same place over and over again you have not discovered anything new. The current distance system makes sense from the games perspective, because it forces players to make choices and speeds up the minigame. But that doesn't mean it necessarily makes sense from logical point of view, not atleast with the current interfaces we got and since we have regions to choose from instead of individual islands. An example doesn't exactly have to fit every detail of reality, it just has to be an understandable simplification of it. Within your understanding, the concept of examples doesn't exist. Also, as far as i know, there is no limit on REAL trades. Sometimes you can just think out of the box, this time it being the grand exchange trade box. If anyone is interested, the 'Fleet Admiral' title has been changed with this update to 'Admiral of the Fleet'. boohoo, this probably took them a full days work and a full serving of milk and cookies. -
It basically has no effect. Atleast until a level 99 magic weapon is released in the real game.

That's the idea. It is quite annoying though that you now need atleast 75 days of ports(and that's at 100% efficiency) before you get to the point of gathering trade goods. Realistically, also considering that you won't get max distance an hour because of lack of voyages before the pincers, it takes 3-4 months before you get to the ports endgame. Really, if jagex is going to have another batch of ports it should be done differently to address this point. -

xpx replied to Saradomin_Mage's topic in General Discussion
It's probably a little known fact but every standard mission in ports gives exactly the same distance per hour. This means that whenever you have 4 standard missions going you are gaining max distance regardless of what missions they are(standard missions are current region 100% or long distance voyages, max speed is considered for all voyages). The reasons not to do long missions in the loop are desyncing and lack of resources. And yeah, as Sy already stated, unless you are a DIYer there is no reason to focus on lower-gain resources(however, xp should be considered, but i don't believe anyone would do soups for the cooking xp).
