  1. Updated with my work since the first post.
  2. I like it. The text is good and good shading on the clouds. My only criticism is that the fields and grass look......empty. Try putting a few trees in or maybe some shading for grass or wheat.
  3. Ok this sig is nearing completion. I am taking my time as it is my first. I am just trying to get some feedback on my shading job as well as background. Also if you want to give feedback on anatomy, please do so but unfortunatly I really don't feel like changing all the shading and stuff. However, I will take your advice under consideration for next time. Obviously the head style for the person hasn't been finalized yet. Ok here they are, the progression of my first pixel sig: Update: This is after adding a sword, changing the wing shape to match a bronze dragon, and starting to shade. Update2: Finished shading the dragon and slightly changed its head. Looking at it I think it's really good but the middle torso between the front and back legs needs work. Also I've noticed taht the legs and arms on the person as well as the shoulders look good and shaded but the body still looks flat. Update3: Made a simple background for dragon and person, Brimhaven Dungeon. Currently working on lava. Update4: Finished up light source and added 3 more (another torch plus two lava pits.) Edit: Title edited [selling sig title not appropriate for forum ~Alduron]
  4. cleaning lines is where you don't have overlapping lines, they only touch on diagonals. I had the same problem when I tried shading so here's what I've found: You need to use colors way far apart on the palatte then use about 7 other colors in between to smooth it. Don't be worried about using too many colors.
  5. I agree, better shading. Also the tree needs branches that are a little less.........stumpy, unless that's your style of course. BTW, off topic, I've seen quite a few mods remove that sig you have for "religious references". Just trying to help
  6. Only one thing seems kind of wierd to me. The wings appear to be attached to the hind leg joint instead of the usual front leg joints. I can see you did this to prevent the wings from blocking the head and neck of the dragon. My suggestion: try to do another wing bone that extends to the front joint. Because the bone will be at an angle, it won't block much of the dragon and the apparant increased wing size will make the dragon be more believable.
  7. Extremely good to me. I mean..... The only point I think needs to be fixed is that the phat is too close in color to the background to see easily (maybe a lighter border?). It also seems kind of empty with just a phat, maybe a guy wearing a phat?
  8. Sorry, I meant my current sig took 5 min. I spent about 2 hours on the other one.
  9. I have both a 1998 iMac and a Gateway PC (not sure of the model). Earlier today I was forced to work on the Macintosh and I started a new sig on it. Unfortunatly, I have found it extremely difficult to use Appleworks instead of Paint and I want to transfer. I can't seem to transfer using a jump drive because it can't find the file that made it. Here's what I've done: 1. Failed Tried to upload pic, post on tip.it, then copy on PC to put into Paint. Mac kept on quitting IE because lack of memory. Couldn't even upload on to net. 2. Failed Tried using jump drive to transfer files directly. NO Appleworks on PC so it oculdn't open the file. 3. Some Success I opened up the files for my pics then copied them into a Microsoft Word file. I then used my jump drive to transfer the Word file. The image transferred but they were stretched (468x201 pixels) and the colors were distorted like I'd saved them as a JPG. Please help. And yes, my sig did take 5 min.
  10. The first one has potential but a few pointers. There is too much sky and the people are too small. It looks like you tried to put a lot of detail into them but because they're so small, only you really know what the red smudge on the right is supposed to be. Spend a little more time on your sigs, patience is key. The other pixel sig is better and has good action but needs more stuff in the background, maybe a tree or something? All the other sigs........ ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!!! JPGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Never, ever, ever use jpgs, they ruin your images. Try saving as PNG's to save the quality and precision of your points as well as colors. P.S. I like my easter sig better
  11. Nice. More like screenshots than sigs but it really shows the different aspects of this year's easter event. Personally I like my easter sig better. \ / l l l l l l V
  12. Yeah, I think this definatly counts as that. This is only my first Pixel Sig that I've ever tried to make so don't expect too much. Here's what I have after about an hour's worth of work. I plan on putting icicles on the letters to the best of my ability. The cape needs a bit of fixing too, but this is just a rough sketch. Oh, and the colors aren't final, I just put them in to add some contrast to the work to make it easier for you (and me) to see.
  13. Great guide thanks a lot! Mostly just posting so i can come back to this easily for reference. Yay! I uploaded my new sig!
  14. I play some. I started playing at the beginning of Apocalypse but never actually bought my own cards until Kamigawa  . Personally I think Apocalypse was the peak of the game. Sets before were too killer, sets afterward too weak and poorly thought out (Mirrodin...shudder). Ravnica looks like a pretty cool block though I haven't seen Guildpact yet.
  15. Disclaimer: I probably have as little experience with this as you. However, I'll tell you what has and hasn't worked for me. Don't just talk to her like you're trying to get something (let's face it, all us guys are............and I'm not talking about that , perv). Lots of guys I know tend to see girls as different. Don't talk to her like she's a different species, just talk to her like another person. This is a definate no no. All us guys swear but most girls don't like swearing. Imagine you're talking to your grandma if it helps. Try to find a common ground. School and teachers is a given but that can only take you so far. Try to find other things like movies. BTW girls are not interested in any action movies not involving Tom Cruise, period. Gifts. If you're meet somewhere by chance always, always, always share your food. Good things are candies. Do not give the item to her unopened. This is seen as presumptuous in the beginning and again, makes many girls think you're out to get something. Finally my personal opinion. Girls like phones, guys don't. Don't know why, just a fact of nature. I like talking to a girl in person instead of on the phone. If you decide to do this remember one thing. Eye contact. The natural way us guys talk are basically grunts in the general direction of the person. You never look another guy in the eye. Don't know what I mean? Try saying more than 5 words whhile having eye contact with the guy (and no, I'm not responsible for your medical bills). There's definatly a balance you have to find between ogling (also staring) and avoiding eye contact. Don't let your eyes drift anywhere! Look to the side if someone walks into the room occasionally or other things like that.
  16. H5N1, the current avian flu, has been around since 1996, an entire decade. Here is a brief timeline of events since then. *1996: H5N1 first detected in a wild duck *1997: H5N1 appears in Hong Kong. A mass epidemic among chickens kills thousands of birds. In a fear of it spreading to humans, millions of domestic birds in Taiwan are euthanised to prevent H5N1 from mutating. Generally the crisis was averted. In the same year, there were 18 human flu cases resulting in 6 deaths. None passed from human to human, only bird to human. *1998-2003: H5N1 mostly disappears from the global scene. No confirmed human cases are reported. *2003: H5N1 appears in China now, this time in a vacationing family from Hong Kong. The daughter dies in China and the father in Hong Kong. The other family members survived and, again, no know passage of the flu to humans. *2004: Partially because of more watchful world health organizations and because of more cases, H5N1 appears to become more widespread. Confirmed cases in birds abound in southeast asia including, China, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, and Thailand. Only Vietnam and Thailand reported humans cases though there is a debate the China held on to information much as they did with the SARS incident. Human transmission cases are first confirmed. It appears H5N1 has a limited transmission to 2 or 3 people. Most who get a secondary infection from the first person infected or 'zero' case survive. From limited numbers of both infections and deaths, H5N1 is estimated to have a 70% fatality rate in Vietnam and Thailand, both considered third world countries. *2005: More small outbreaks of H5N1 confirmed, mostly in Vietnam and Cambodia. In southern Vietnam, the fatality rate is nearing 100% almost as deadly as Ebola. However, in northern Vietnam, the fatality rate is only 10-20% though there seems to be a more effective transmission, probably because of the denser population. Most cases in the north appear to originate with poultry raised in the south. H5N1 travels with migratory birds from southeast asia to the middle east and eastern europe. Bird cases are confirmed in africa and russia as well. In the UK, a parrot from south america dies while in the same quarantine facility as an infected bird. This quarantine was regular procedure and wasn't implemented as a fear of bird flu. Overview: In almost 10 years of the H5N1 Bird Flu being around, only 191 have been infected with 108 deaths, despite how widespread the disease has become. This gives it a 76% death reat though there have been no human infections in europe. People say that it can mutate into a more infective form. I don't dispute this but I think that given 10 years, it hasn't come very far as far as infecting humans goes. The media loves this kind of thing. It's like a war, long lasting with a lead up and a definate suspense. It's completely overhyped. All flus are bird flus. The yearly one is a bird flu, weakened, yes, but still from birds. The yearly flu itself kills an estimated 63,730 a year but because it isn't new, it doesn't get any news. Scientists have been working on an effective vaccine for several years now and we've had even more to observe the effects of the disease. Despite that it isn't anything special, simple hygine such as washing hands is the best thing to do to fight the flu. This is why most human cases are confined to third world countries. My look on life; what happens happens. We can try to stop it but if it isn't the bird flu, it will be another disease we have ignored. A pandemic will happen one day. It's like a hurricane. Yes one may strike this year, but it may not happen again in the same place for thirty or forty years.
  17. OMG! Sorry about that. I've been waiting for another starcraft game for forever. It sold way better than warcraft and for being almost 8 years old, it still sells in most stores. It's a gaming legend. The only reason warcraft is so successful is because they keep on coming out with new warcraft games. I would play world of starcraft even if the subscription was $50 a month. OMG
  18. body= face= personality= :wall: (this is what her parents did to her as a kid)
  19. Yes, we're all aware that the body uses stored chemical energy. The point of the rule is that only people can power the engine directly. My best Idea is to somehow use gear ratios or a pulley system to gain mechanical advantage.
  20. First off Kryptic, thanks for the great post. I bleieve what you say about life being better despite the fact that Bush called the war "Operation Iraqi Freedom". You're completely right about Americans being bombarded by only one side of the story. Just keep the ideas coming man. On an off-topic post: Jill Carol (i think that's her name) was released from Iraq recently. For those of you who don't know, she's a journalist that was captured in January I believe. Anyways the extremist Islamic group that captured her (take your pick, hamas, al-qaeda, etc.) gave the government a few days to release all the women suspected of terrorism held in coalition prisons or they would kill her. The government has held with its 'we do not negotiate with terrorists' but pleaded with the group to release her. Along with pleads coming from varied groups such as the US, Muslim clerics, and various human rights groups, she was released alive almost 2 months after the deadline. (Very off topic, she went to my high school and many of my teachers remember her) Anyways this is a vital point that I think needs to be made: terrorists aren't just some crazy people. They honestly believe in their cause to the point where they will risk their lives to achieve it. It is the same thinking that compels people to serve in the armed forces. They are capable of reason and sympathy and are people too, not just cold-blooded killers. Many terrorists are people with families. So don't just think that they are somehow different from us. While I'm on a roll explaining my views on Iraq, I'll continue. A lot of press lately is going towards removing troops from Iraq. I personally didn't support the war in the first place but in this case I side with Colin Powell, former Secretary of State. He said something along the lines of 'Iraq is a pottery shop. You break something in it, you gotta buy it.' I think that now we are committed to a war in Iraq, we cannot just pull out our forces. History is full of wars where we went in half-assed and didn't follow through. Many people discount this but Iraq is very similar to Vietnam. It's almost in or already in a state of religious civil war and if we pull out, it will further destabalize the area. In almost every revolution throughout history, there are 3 major stages. At first there is a liberal stage where leaders are willing to passivly change the country. The liberal stage leaders tend to be weaker and are then taken over by the redical stage. The radicals frequently use violence and censorship to maintain their power and country in their own image. The people anger and there is a second revolution and the formation of the Moderate stage. The moderate stage forms which not the strongest but is the most stable stage. Currently I would put Iraq between the liberal and radical stages. A constitution has been agreed upon but there are (alleged) shiite death squads attacking the sunni minority. If we pull out forces now, the radical forces will take over and possibly make Iraq more dangerous than other countries in the "New Axis of Evil" such as Iran and North Korea, due to it's resentment for the occupation. We need to follow through. If anything we need more troops, more international support, UN peacekeeping troops, anything, but we need to stabalize the nation. We broke Iraq, let's not just sweep it under the rug.
  21. Klingon!!! It looks neeto and sounds like you're choking when you speak it!!! Oh wait, that's just my dog.
  22. I've thought of that and found something similar on the internet called a traction trebuchet. That's my fallback plan. I was hoping I could get some new out of the box thinking.
  23. I've already tried that, the hard part is finding one that uses people to power it, not stored energy like rocks or springs.
  24. OK, I am in the Boy Scouts and in my council we are having what we call the siege. Basically the siege is a competition between troops (same as pack in cub scouts) to design and build a siege engine (catapult, trebuchet, something else???) that can throw sponges. We're not a huge troop so we are kind of running low on ideas. That's where you come in. I would like you to submit a description and drawing of potential siege engine drawings or links to websites with designs. There are only a few rules and here they are: *All siege engines must be made of wood with the exception of ropes, cloth for slings, and baskets. *All siege engines must be powered by people only (no stored energy like rubber bands, bungee chords, etc.) *No one is allowed over 6 feet in the air Please help and no flaming.
