Runescape gets a facelift - google news
RuneScape is already downloaded and installed on your hard drive, check C:\.jagex_cache_32 or C:\users\(your Windows account name)\.jagex_cache_32. That's a 48KB .dll file. I'm talking about a multi-gigabyte application file. Many other MMO's do it, and can get great graphics for only a couple of gigs of hard drive space. Being able to run RS in the browser on dial-up was a noble ambition 6 or 7 years ago, but it's horribly outdated. I think they'd attract more new players than they would lose with a major engine upgrade that required this type of download and broadband internet. Heck, they could even implement Blutters' idea and run both. You are talking about RS right? RS is not made in Flash but Java ;) Yeah, that was pointed out already. Guess I've been playing too many flash games lately. So I'm not perfect. My ex-wife would be the first to agree with that. :P Is it too late to chastise Kaida for the "Flash" comment? I mean, it's such a rare mistake I'd like the opportunity to rub it in!

The Firemaker's Curse - 11 - Jan
On the whole, I don't think I will use this weekly event with Char. I will stick to my daily dose of evil (elder) trees and maybe use the new circus event. I've already got enough "daily" and "weekly" [clan] activities to keep me busy ...

The Firemaker's Curse - 11 - Jan
On the whole, I liked this quest. It was entertaining with a good side story. I could nitpick about certain aspects of it, if I wanted to, but generally speaking, it was a good quest.

RuneScape: Best Browser Game and Game of the Year on Massively.com
It was interesting to see his comments about "browser based games" and how he feels that they are medium for future gaming development. Particularly since so many people here tend to argue that Jagex should be moving Runescape away from the browser format ...

A Very Barrows New Year
Did a pile of runs last night. Standardized my new set up for gear, and managed to work in all the brothers, including Akrisae, within one dose of OVL/Prayer Renewal per 5 minute trip. Still, all those runs and the best I could manage was two pairs of Dharoks legs and not in the same drop either <_<

Tip.It Times - 8th January 2012
Well the purpose of the article was talking about Jagex securing a lasting place in the gaming industry. RuneScape really helped them stand out as a company but unless Jagex has another great product, I think they will slowly lose the recognition they have now. So my intent was to look at what Jagex has been doing after RuneScape (so I talked about all of their current games - not just the upcoming ones) and which ventures have been successes or failures, and what is in store for the company in the future. Well -- to be fair -- Jagex has already secured its place in the Gaming Industry as the developer of Runescape -- just like whatsit did when they made that um game thingy back in the day. Dang, what was that game called? You know, the one MMORPG that was the first one on-line? Gah! It's right here on the tip of my tongue it was called ... um .. ah ... Oh yeah! Ultima On-Line! That's the one. The whatsit company that made that game is gonna be remembered forever ...

What is the optimum gear for barrows now since the upgrade?

Trophy Vexillum Change
Those clans don't really have much of an advantage, tbh. I remember DF had problems upgrading to Tier 4 (we didn't get Tier 4). Not really to do with member base, more or less the fact that there are no real rewards for these clans for reaching tier 7, so the motivation just isn't there. I understand that this is a common problem with a lot of clans. Trying to motivate people to get out and do the resources every week for citadel building can get to be a bit of a chore. My own clan, which at only 80+ members isn't very large, managed to make Tier 5 and we're working to Tier 6 now (which is a HUGE build btw!). To get to Tier 6, one only needs 35 visitors a week, but trying to motivate 35 people to visit the citadel each week, at times, is like pulling teeth. At the rate we're going -- 15% upgrade + upkeep costs for Tier 5 -- we're looking at 6-7 weeks to make Tier 6. That said, without some more recruitment, we'd never mad Tier 7's requirement of 50 visitors a week. Seems odd, really. It only takes maybe 85 minutes to gather sufficient resources to max out each week (2k at Tier 5) -- and the experience is pretty decent (and FREE) IMO, in terms of efficiency, and it'd take only 5 minutes of one's precious time to simply visit the citadel each week, and yet, one cannot seem to get that many people to show up and participate in any given week ...

A Very Barrows New Year
3 years after barrows becomes obsolete they finally add that, wow lol. I don't know why people are throwing the word obsolete around. Only a small percentage of players can afford Nex armours and Barrows armour is still widely used by mid to high level players. It's probably the most used armor outside of Bandos, and Ahrim's and Karil's gear is still widely used, since Armadyl has melee penalties and ganodermic has much higher requirements. Meh - I have one friend who refuses to use anything other than his Torag's for ALL combat situations and he's level 137. Then again, he also generally walks around in a Guthan's skirt, calling it a "kilt", so ... I shall be keen to see what happens when he logs in this evening and discovers his "kilt" has been changed.

Behind The Scenes January
For the sake of extrapolating, I wonder if the other armour updates will coincide with the barrows update, or is that too much graphical re-working for one update? Never mind ...

Tip.It Times - 1st January 2012
Wow Ham's and Alg's articles this week were really great reading. I am still chuckling over Alg's commentary. Ham, thanks for extrapolating the information about our fanbase here at TIF -- it was very enlightening. Thanks one and all for your kind words regarding my own article. I merely felt it was a necessary response to this article in clarifying certain points made at that time. In any event, thanks again everyone.

Economy after the Bot nuke
Interesting -- so you're positing that the trend "to get 99" is what drove people to use bots -- and now that bots have been mostly eliminated, the trend to get 99 will peeter out somewhat and gradually decline over time? I am not disagreeing with you, by the way, I am merely re-stating this for clarification. Please correct me, if you think I am putting words in your mouth. All this said, I will be most interested to see if you're correct in this analysis. How long, do you think, before we see this trend really take effect in the community? I wonder, also, what effect this is going to have on the community, in terms of its psyche, in the long run? Kind of sort of if you squint and look at it sideways I guess? It was more that since the items were cheap enough (due to botting that dump lots of items for easy gp to sell), and there were non grinding methods of getting gp (flipping, dicing, 76k'ing, RWT) to buy those cheap items. Problem was, if you tried any non-grinding method to get gp you'd just could not keep up with bots to gather enough gp to matter. My point about players buying 99's was more of a "You know, I have the gp and the items aren't that much in perspective, why not buy the material to get 99". Now, I'm sure some then botted to level their account with these cheap items but that was secondary. The main point was that grinding was not a money making method to get gp to get 99's. It's still not that great now, however grinding is now a money maker so people may instead opt for a lower goal which is still achievable with what gp they can grind out. Someone that builds hunter to 92 at the chins (instead of Jadinkos) or yews (instead of ivy) can likely have an income to keep up with leveling crafting to 92 using battlestaffs and fire orbs. I don't think anyone can grind their way to keep up with herblore and prayer, but is that a bad thing considering the combat advantage those skills now give? Looking at that ramble of a paragraph, I guess I could say that now people will be willing to level on skills that get gp rich items instead of the faster methods that don't produce much. That's something that'd be stupid to try pre-bot nuke as you'd be leveling slower with no other benefit. Ok, so I was putting words in your mouth -- or at least extrapolating beyond a point from where you thought of taking it. Still, I cannot help but wonder what the future may hold for the 99 skiller. Will there be as many players, in the future, so hell-bent upon getting those skill capes anymore? Are their days numbered, so to speak? Will we be seeing as many people so keen to spend the cash to buy their 99 skills? and yes, I do realize that, what with resources being worth more, and therefore with people being able to skill AND earn at the same time, the end result of skilling to 99 is such that, while it may cost more in the long run, youre not any more likely to come out further behind now, than you did during the age of bots, the question remains: will so many players consider the price tag of a buyable 99 so daunting, that they will no longer be willing to spend such sums on those skills? If yes, then does the game continue pretty much on the way it was heading, unabated? If no, then what will erstwhile be the over-all affect on the game environment, and the community, at large?

Quick Agil Question
If you're genuinely keen on running agility courses, then switch to the Advanced Gnome Course at level 80 agility, and use Summer Pies to boost you to the level 85 when necessary (just prior to climbing the second branch climb). You should get 2-3 laps per half pie. You will get the full XP per course regardless if you fail the run-wall obstacle which, at 725 per lap is a considerable boost from the Ape Atoll. That said, you'd probably get more XP per hour farming your Effigies from Slayer tasks and applying them to your agility ...

Economy after the Bot nuke
Happy? With everything inflated by 70-100%, you are not any better off as you were. But it's not everything. Assuming you can get rid of major bot influences, you're left with prices dictated by the emotions of players. Sooner or later, the amount of people driven with the emotion to get a quick 99 will decrease, along with the demand for materials needed for that quick 99. As long as the economy is the balanced trade of what people consider an hour of their time is worth compared to the amount of time that went into the ability to utilize that hour mixed with desire of the end product then I'm cool with high prices of some items versus low prices of others.
