  1. I can't believe all the hate here (well, I can, because I've come to expect it). He changed his name to something he and his friends thinks is funny (I think it's sort of amusing), which he's legally allowed to do. It's not like you are ever going to meet him or ever likely hear of it again. Might aswell just read it and move on to something more important. It is a pretty good joke, just like that guy in jail for life who just sues everyone because he can...also funny. People do this sort of thing because it makes people like the uptight haters here get their panties in a bunch and for that I salute them.
  2. Just thought I'd post another game. If you guys liked Fantastic Contraption, it's very possible you will like Incredibots, which is very similar but more complex and versatile. Not only that, you make your machine and make its controls, then you actually have to use it to complete the challenges (usually getting your whole robot or a single item from point A to point B). You get to use various motors, like pistons and wheels to do the tasks, and you get to design the controls, change the density of objects, and the power and speed of the motors. It's really a blast, and some of the levels are very difficult. You can also make videos out of your contraptions in sandbox mode, but I haven't really tried that yet. Just like FC there are some glitches people have used to beat levels (and this game is still in beta). FC had those weird explosive/elastic balls people used that messed the game up and used that explosive power to beat levels. This one has some wierd glitch/design flaw where people just make flapping seagulls that move insanely fast and far. Anyway, here's the link, and I really suggest you take the tutorial as this game has many features: http://incredibots.com/ Just like FC, this game lets you save and share your replays and/or robots. It also has highscores for each level on each difficulty. Here's one of my replays where you have to get the green fish into the pond (yes, I know I didn't execute the controlling that well and it could use some fine-tuning...): http://incredibots.com/?replayID=9313 And here's one of my better FC contraption videos if you're still on that: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=2248056
  3. http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/13/octob ... -the-gold/ he probably got it from there... Why he's posting a thread on meaningless numbers however is beyond me. Was wondering the same thing... And probably because he's a PS3 hater.
  4. Yea, played this game a while back. Beat all the levels except "Unpossible", which I was dangerously close to beating, but then my bro beat me and I saw how he did it and I just lost interest. That level is very hard and kind of stupid, because instead of pure ingenuity it's mostly just lengthy tinkering with your design. Really great game, I eagerly anticipate a sequel.
  5. Most likely trickery. They will just have dialogue that says "You are the Chosen One!" or something, but they'll say that to everybody.
  6. Well, I wouldn't want to play an MMO for 10 years anyway... Plus, realistic graphics have gotten pretty good. And they'll be even better, and the hardware able to run them will be more widely used by the time this comes out. It shouldn't be out before 2010 or 11. Also - those screens look terrible, and certainly much worse than WoW.
  7. It may not be final yet, but over on IGN they have a review saying the entire game will be stylized rather than realistic. Part of it is to make new content easier to make, but part is because that's just the way they are going with it. Kind of a shame - following the art style of Clone Wars instead of the good movies.

It will run far better, but it doesn't look as good. *Crysis rips far cry off. Not unless Crytek rips itself off :|.
  9. There's some pretty good upcoming games, and a few that just recently came out. Stuff like: L4D, Fallout 3, Dead Space, Far Cry 2, GTA IV, Spore, Witcher: EE, STALKER: Clear Sky, Red Alert 3, Warhammer, WoW: WotLK. All of those are either already out, or will be within the next 2-3 weeks. Really, something for every taste, thought perhaps a little light on RTS if you're not into Red Alert. Unfortunately Mirror's Edge isn't hitting PC until early next year, but there's so much else, so who really cares?
  10. If there was ever an MMO to get me playing them again, this is the one. I just hope they fix the present art style.
  11. Also, WC3 standard games are not hard AT ALL. This is coming from someone who has a 150 win Night Elf icon and a 25 win Human icon.... So...I have thousands of wins over the years, and countless icons, and I'm probably only slightly above average. Being pro at the regular game takes far more time, and there are so many more variables. It's much easier to control 1 unit than it is to control a whole army, while keeping your economy economy running. There's no comparison.
  12. Of course DOTA has cheats...though I can't think of anything someone would use that wasn't maphack. I like DOTA because all my friends play it, but really it's more about playing a lot than actually being skilledd. It's very easy to understand and pull off the primary strategies, it's just very difficult to (as you said) wrap your head around all the characters and items. WC3 standard games are opposite: few simple items and units, but very complex strategy and micromanagement. Much harder to master.
  13. I recently decided I wanted to get into console gaming to suppliment my PC gaming, so I bought a bunch of games this summer for PS1/2. From this series I ended up buying FFI, II, III, V, VI, VIII, IX, X, and XII (IV because I don't/won't have a DS, VII because it's remarkably rare in brick-and-mortar stores [will get later], and XI because I have no interest in that). Most of these games have been released in Greatest Hits for PS1, so they aren't hard to find save for VII. I plan to do a major campaign of all the titles sometimes next year (though I haven't decided if I want to spread it out and have a few games in between for variety...)
  14. A Dreamcast game still wanders out of some corner of the earth every once in a while, and that's been discontinued for 7+ years. The PS2 is still getting new console SKU's, and has sold over 5 million consoles this year worldwide, just slightly fewer than the 360 (and more than half of what the DC sold in it's entire life). In the last few weeks, Mercenaries 2, Force Unleashed, Lego Batman and Yakuza 2 have been released, as well as a new SingStar (first party!). And those are just the notable releases. First party support and console production show no signs of slowing down. It is unlikely, but possible that Sony might stop producing first-party titles sometime in 2009, and third-party titles will likely slow down. But I would be very surprised PS2 games aren't still being released years from now.
  15. PS3 is doing just fine. Worldwide it's selling fasterthan the 360 (keeping in mind the 360 had a year's headstart), and will most certainly beat it in this console race. It is unlikely that the PS3 will sell more than the 360 in USA, atleast until the price is under $200 and/or a new console generation begins, though it is a possibility. PS3 might not do as well as the PS2, but the Playstation brand isn't going anywhere. Do that and your guts will be spread against the wall from the word go. Keyboard And Mouse .. FTW I have a wired 360 controller. Sure, I can play any game with keyboard and mouse just from experience, but for many it's better. Stuff like Prince of Persia and probably Lara Croft feels a bit better on an analog pad. Stuff like GTR2, or many modern racing games are for all intents and purposes unwinnable with a keyboard and mouse. Analog control and acceleration is absolutely essential. I would say you NEED a controller, or even better a wheel.
  16. Not even 2 years...and not even 3 since 360. But announcements of new systems have in the past come ~3-5 years after the previous cycle. So depending on Microsoft's strategy (of which no one could say for sure), we might be seeing a new announcement in the next 1-2 years (as a minimum, but still). Though if I were them, I would probably hold off: that would put a huge dent in their 360 sales, as this generation seems to be running its course slower than last ones ("next-gen" is still regularly used to describe 360, PS3 and Wii). microsoft already dominates the market in places like japan.
  17. Mr_Putter replied to Necromagus's topic in Off-Topic
I enjoyed Fallout 1+2, but thought they were too dated and lacked a few too many necessary features. When I heard of this I was sort of excited, but Oblivion was pretty weak. I kinda want to play this right when it comes out to get a first impression before I'm influenced by other opinions. But at the same time, I'm not sure I'll have the time when it comes out. I might have to wait until the Christmas break.
  18. According to How It's Made, Cow's actually like being milked. I'm assuming this means only lactating cows, and I'm not sure if all cows lactate all the time.
  19. Same? Similar, perhaps, but Famicom implies one thing and NES implies another.
  20. Cloud, Sephiroth and Solid Snake are names as big as any in the business short of Mario. Sony (and since you mention them later) and Msoft are huge, multination corporations that make far more money than Nintendo. Both are among the most important companies in the world. They are more of a household name than Nintendo by a long shot. You hear them mentioned far more often. My friends own a vast array of consoles, including Nintendo. This point is irrelevant, though. ...for obvious reasons... People still talk about a lot of games in glowing terms today. FF7 for example. And it has been out for longer. Sold more copies too. They already have one announced...and probably several more in production. That would be awful mean of them. First: Microsoft isn't part of the discussion. But since you brought it up I'm going to use it for my next point. Second: While yes, MGS4 will be remembered and Fable 2 might, this is one of the least educated guesses I've seen. You forgot that Grand Theft Auto and Final Fantasy are among the very best selling, most influential and most important franchises in video-game history. Their sales rival Pokemon and Mario. I'm not sure if you missed the cultural phenomenons they started, with GTAIV sure to be among the best selling games of this generation. Halo, Gears of War, Gran Turismo, God of War are going to be remembered in...7 years. I'm not sure about you, but most people can remember average games for 7 years. These are iconic games and game-figures. They aren't goint anywhere. And yes, you said exclusive titles, but I fail to see how that is relevant. GTA, FF, Halo, GT, GoW and GoW are all or were former exclusive franchises (so it's techinically accurate), but even as it stands now they aren't on Nintendo. So that's good enuf for the argument. This might prove Nintendo has more marketting savy, though it might also prove that they are latching onto old serious is lieu of creating new franchises for the core gamer. Atleast Sony has a fairly broad array of titles from different genres published by them for the core gamer. Bizarre evidence to support your Nintendo>Sony argument: Microsoft Fanboys like Masterchief... Hmmmm. I guess I didn't make much of an argument for or against either. I just proved this guy wrong. I don't even really have a preference: both Nintendo and Sony are important and excellent in different ways. I just don't fully understand the point of the topic. How do you compare such different companies? Famicom and NES are two different things.
  21. I don't even understand this. It wasn't funny the first time, so why is it funny more than once? The reason FG isn't funny anymore is because it recycles its old, only mildly entertaining gags. Olly Williams was funny the first time, but never after that. Same with those guys playing the piano and dancing. Just weak. Anyway: best is probably: Meg: I just want to kill myself! I'm gonna go upstairs and eat a whole bowl of peanuts. (Lois and Peter stare in silence) Meg: I'm allergic to peanuts. (Peter and Lois keep staring) Meg: You dont know anything about me. (runs upstairs) Peter: Who was that guy?
  22. I wish more people would realise that voting for NPD is counter-productive, and voting for Green is just entirely throwing your vote away in all but a handful of ridings. If you look at the platforms, we basically have 4 major liberal parties and 1 major conservative party. Bloc is pretty much assured a certain number of votes, but NPD and Green are getting more and more votes each time. What this does is take votes from the Liberal Party, thus ensuring that the Liberals don't win without sufficiently swaying the votes so that NPD or Green could win. Therefores, the liberal vote is spread to thin, and even when a vast majority of people in Canada support a liberal platform (esp. when it comes to social issues), Conservatives win a minority government. Having the Conservatives in a majority isn't that bad, but having a Conservative minority government is the worst thing that can happen. They can't do anything without a majority, so politics just stands still. A liberal minority is moderately more productive, since Libs and the other groups can form coalitions, but they don't always agree. The best thing that can happen is somehow the Liberal Party (really the only one of the 4 left-wing parties with any chance of winning a majority) getting a majority. So stop throwing your vote away, it just messes up things.
  23. Its current score on metacritic is 72%. In a time when dozens of average games get over 80 in any given year, a 72% is a nice way of saying that reviewers don't want to completely bash it (so as not to anger publisher PR or fanboys), but that really it blows*. One should also note that on metacritic, the score is roughly inversely related to the prestige of the review souce**: prestigious sources like EGM, 1up, Gamespy, Giantbomb, Eurogamer all give it 7 or less, while most of the other ones are in the 70-75% range (IGN, Gamespot, Official Xbox Magazine, Destructoid). No-names like "WonderwallWeb", "MaxiConsolas", and "XboxAddict" are the only things keeping it from sinking below 70%, which in a crowded season is unmistakably bad. That's not saying you shouldn't get it, but you should try to make an educated opinion before spending $60+ dollars on a game that you could very well end up taking back. *Note: Before saying I 'need to play it', there are some qualities of games that aren't based on review subjectivity. While the experience of one reviewer to the next might vary slightly based on number of bugs encountered, length of the game, etc., a general idea can be drawn from looking at the fact that most reviews say it's short and buggy, and I believe all reviewers would agree that it does not have any multiplayer, which in this case can be seen as a con. **With the exception of Game Informer giving it a good review, and G4 giving it a bad review. This is merely a trend I'm seeing, and 2/40 aint bad.
  24. Really a shame, his work with PF is very underrated. Everyone talks about The Great Gig in the Sky and Us and Them, but so many forget/don't even know about his other amazing work. Remember a Day, See-saw, and perhaps the most overlooked song in PF's entire catalogue, Summer '68. Really a shame. I never got to see him play with David Gilmour when the toured by a few years ago, because I didn't have a drivers liscence, have no friends who like PF, and didn't have the huge amount of cash for tickets. I also have yet to hear Broken China or Wet Dream because they aren't available in local stores, but I will eventually get them off e-bay. This is a real bummer, though. I feel like I want to listen to Pink Floyd all day now, but all the CD's are at my other house :<.
  25. They call it 'greatest', but it's voted by fans. So they should really call it "most popular guitar solos". I don't even pretend to know a lot about classic rock/classic hard rock/metal etc., but I can tell you that is a weak list. Smells Like Teen Spirit...I've heard it dozens/hundreds of times, and I actually had to go on youtube to even see if there was a guitar solo in it, which there sort of is, I guess. And somehow it's like 25. There are a bunch of other ones like that. It left me feelin confused.
