MAGE TRAINING GUIDE --- for fast experience and levelling!
dogfever replied to jellabi1's topic in General Guides
It's where you have used apostrophes >> ' -
No it's pastime actually. Past time is a description of a time that has passed and pass time is a verb as in to pass time. All a bit too academic though really. My favorite way to pass time on RS is slayer, however if you mean in the sense of doing something when niether skilling nor questing the I'd have to say nothing. If I'm just wandering around bored then I'll log off and go and do something, in this way RS>RL, the great thing is when I'm bored in real life I can log on and play RS.

Ah, hadn't considered that. I'm learning a lot this week. Mostly from chenw :)

I don't think it's that you 'can't' solo the KQ, presumably the same setup you use for Jad (sara brew and super restores) would work. THe problem is economy. Mainly people kill the KQ for the drops and using up the high level pots would make this a big money loser.

The chaos gaunts are dark red. Really you should be aiming to complete a few parts of Recipe for Disaster. The xp is good and the gauntlets you can buy are great.
-
I doubt it. You'd probably need another 1k of arrows. Fire giants are good at 66, so are ogres or moss giants. You could go for lessers but I don't think the odd rune med is worth it.

Any lvl monster that drops Ranarr SEEDS frequently??
dogfever replied to Giordano's topic in Help and Advice
This is good advice. The majority of the 25 ranarrs I have came from a bried spell of Mossie bashing during my range training. I also now pickpocket farmers between farming runs, they have a reasonable rate on herb seeds it all depends on your thieving level though, mine isn't great and I get a couple of ranarrs an hour on average. -
Bad taste that man (not to mention spelling) :) However yes whips are dropping and they will not rise again so the longer you wait the less they cost. I could pick one up for 2.1 I reckon, 2.2 certainly.

Steve's Guide of Slaying Green Dragons [38 Wild]
dogfever replied to slimysteve's topic in General Guides
Looks good so far :) Being a bit of a coward I virtually never go into the wildy, I have fought Greens just above Edgy but the place is riddled with pkers and the bowl shape is basically a death warrant. I got caught out once by the bind and teleblock method which kind of puts a stop to any running or teleing (I admit I wasn't paying attention and could have clicked the ecto when I saw the TB coming in). It did amuse me to put on protect from magic prayer and bury every single dbone I had collected while he finished me off :) -
No this year has been pretty good in my book. Construction is a ridiculously big update. The new game engine, although it isn't really apparent in the gameplay must have taken forever to develop and is a great update in that it will open up so much more stuff in the future. RFD and the new Morytania quests are all well put together and very enjoyable. The graphics updates are all welcome (and I assume enabled by the new engine). PC is also a big update in terms of it's impact on training and its uptake in the game. In addition we have had fairy rings and numerous new map areas opened up. So no, I would say this year is pretty good.

Oh, I firmly believe it will be somewhere in Morytania, I just don't trust Jagex not to something weird just because they can :)

Right. Firstly pseudo random number generation, this is achieved through use of such algorithms as the Mersenne Twister for example which provides an incredibly good approximation to a random number and it is extremely quick. It is literally impossible for a computer to produce a truly random number. So point 1 there. Secondly in order to assess the drop you obtain Jagex need only specify a range for each drop, i.e. if the random number falls between 0.1 and 0.15 yu get coins, another generator decides how many etc. By narrowing the bounds you can make a drop more rare. A feature of any random number generator is that it will, occasionally repeat a sequence, with the Mersenne Twister this is once every (2^19937)-1 iterations, so not very likely. However, the point is that the algorithm doesn't have to repeat itself for you to get the same drops it only needs to generate two sets of numbers, each of which falls within the same bounds as the first. This is far more probable than an actual repetition in the algorithm. The standard method of seed setting is to use the computer clock by the way. Geographical locations etc. would make this less random. Lastly, regarding luck. Say you want a drop x (a dchain). The probability of getting x is P(x) say 0.0001 which is implemented as R(the random number) lieing between 0.1001 and 0.1002. Therefore at every kill you have a probability of success of 0.0001 and 0.9999 of failure. The upsohot of this is that, yes you might get drop x after 10 kills, it is unlikely, more likely after 10000 kills (about a 50% chance). That's where the luck comes in, check out Binomial Distributions for more info. The ROW is just a slightly more complex implementation of the above system. So in short: Adamfostas +1

Barrows For Lower Levels - ed 25 Oct 2006 (AOW discussion)
dogfever replied to Satenza's topic in General Guides
Oh good. I presume this strategy involves keeping the same outfit equipped throughout hence the balancing of stats from different sets? Maybe mystic boots and gloves for the mage? I'm figuring spade, super restore (maybe 2), two ppots, MSB, runes, and the rest monkfish. Thanks for the help. I must see about sorting my house out with an altar and portals. -
Fair enough. I stand corrected. I had also forgotten about the prayer bonus on Verac's. Cheers for setting me straight. I posted a more detailed thing on Sat's Archive thread so as not to totally drag this one off topic.

Barrows For Lower Levels - ed 25 Oct 2006 (AOW discussion)
dogfever replied to Satenza's topic in General Guides
Ok. Thanks for the guide Satenza, it seems to be the most appropriate to me. While we're on the subject of being good enough here are my stats: The def will be 70 by about this time next week so I'm considering getting a barrows set (cheaper one though, no Guth just yet). I may also push the mage up to 70 (if I can be bothered to fletch all those bows). I have enough dbones to hit 57/8 prayer as well. I assume these will be ok for some casual barrowing (not too serious). As yet I have no POH altar either so that's out :( I'm not too keen on knocking back three or four prayer pots at a go so my question would be what set to get (and why, just for interest) and who to avoid praying on (if I can avoid it that is). -
Yeah that's about right. The resources are kept no matter what. I usually run mine down to about 1mil or 900k then take my stuff, sell it and reinvest. Given that it takes 75k a day I usually make a profit in excess of 100% so 75-80k profit per day.
-
It has to be the Blood altar. The whole quest revolves around blood, not to mention it's called the Sanguinesti (Sanguis being latin for blood). I don't reckon they'll change the Barrows, there'd be uproar. Edit: Having said that Jagex are pretty unpredictable so it could be a +2 prayer altar with a Fairy ring right next to it and a shortcut to the barrows and they'll put the blood altar in Priffidias (sp?).
-
Basically your subjects take 10% of whatever you put in up to a maximum of 75000 per day so you have to refill the coffers at 750k otherwise they start taking less than 75k and its less efficient. So basically to work out how long your money will last do the following: Days = (Amount invested - 750k)/75k
-
Is there a problem with torags in the barrows? From what I see it has superior melee protection to Veracs the only negatives being a negative mage def bonus but if you pray on Ahrim then no harm done? Just replace the plate with a black dhide body to get your range bonus on Ahrim. I can see the negative mage attack being a problem but if you use Slayer dart then mage bonus has no effect. So my question is why take Veracs?
-
Those I have said no to you will almost certainly end up dead. Troll romance might be ok, but Id train combat up a bit first. Those I have said yes to that is on the proviso that you use appropriate safe spots, pots and good food. I'm not guaranteeing anything though. Oh and bring an emergency tele everywhere in every quest.
-
Well if you leave 5mil in there it will last you nearly two months before you have to take top it up or retrieve your rewards. Basically what you choose is very much up to you, depends if you are going for cash or xp (and in what). The advantage of leaving it in longer is that you get more of the additional goodies such as caskets, gems, seeds or nests (depending on what you have chosen to be collected). In practical terms I am impatient and usually can't wait more than a couple of weeks before I cash out so I don't put much more than 2 mil in.
-
Very true, although we also don't have solid proof of a good many other things we take as fact, free will for example. Again this is true. It is impossbile to prove a negative such as this without an exhaustive search of the problem space (which is impossible in terms of God). No sale on this. If, for example, the world were about to plunge into the sun tomorrow the fact we would all be screwed wouldn't change the fact that it was going to happen. Your first two points capture it all perfectly. However, for a more pragmatic view I would point you towards articles on Epistemology and particularly reductio ad absurdum, e.g. Russel's chinese teapot or the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Opinions vary. I found Maples too slow to cut so the xp rate was lower which I didn't like so I stuck to willows, you'll have to give it a try, if its slow just go back to willows. Also, a tip, there are five or six willows directly behind lumby gen store. If Draynor is busy you can cut, fletch and sell there without having to return to the bank, just remember to take a knife.
-
That's the one. Just repeat 16,181 times and you'll have 70 fletching.
-
Unstrung willow longs. Either buy the willows or cut them yourself. Don't bother stringing them its a waste of time and money. If you want to recover some money sell the unstrung bows to a general store for 16gp each.
