RS: scientific vs. relaxed approach
nickeley102 replied to nickeley102's topic in General Discussion
I guess everyone uses as mix of both approaches just to different extents -
after reading muggi's post on buying skills the thing that stuck out was how well thought out and calculated the approach to training was. In comparison i have always just sort of logged in and done my thing with little thought. It got me thinking how many more levels i would have if i had spent my time more effectively by researching the most efficient (money wise and time wise) methods of training a particular skill. I got 70 range from smithing my own mith arrows So which method do you use? relaxed or calculated? Some people would argue that taking the slow road and discovery learning is more enjoyable, even if you gain less levels, would you agree? Hopefully this doesn't

A child of the 90's, this is what shaped my world.(few pics)
nickeley102 replied to jessy87's topic in Off-Topic
I remember playing that with my friend on his playstation (at least I think it was) and I remember playing an SNES and thinking how awesome the graphics were ya making me want the 90's back  Goldeneye was good... until perfect dark came out. I remeber wondering how 1st person shooters could possibly get any better. How wrong i was -
looks like alot of people here followed a similar pattern of internet introduction to me... i.e. Find cheats for games/email (Marijuana-gateway drugs) awkward first porn experience/online flash games (Cocaine) MMORPG's/forums (Heroin) Myspace/facebook/bebo (crystal meth-lifetime addiction) if you cant tell i used a common drug choice path to parallel internet use

i find posts with knife collection pics a little disturbing. am i supposed to be impressed? they just look like cutlery (no pun intended)

Wow, sounds like everyone got into the internet way before me. I remember my dad said we werent going to get the internet because it is going to be free on the radio in a few months (this was years ago). he must have been refering to wireless, but we made fun of him for days, saying he thought he was going to check his emails by tuning his radio. not much alse stands out, although Trademe, the nz ebay equivalent, really put an end to the 2nd hand store business here

what "made/sold" the internet for you? Mine: homestarrunner.com ask a ninja.com. Also (to a lesser extent) bug on a wire http://www.mousebreaker.com/games/bugonawire/play.php

that is hilarious! You safe like sour cream? awesome

Its funny but whenever i hear people talking about rsc it always conjours up images of a select group of people, forming a tight knit community, on the verge of a huge quantum leap in the entertainment industry. Because the graphics were average. but the i remind myself, it was only in 01/02, Some other very graphically and gamesplay advanced games were out like fallout 2 and ff7. But to me it always seems like they were the original players of pinball or pacman or something. Its probably because they are always like "sigh, those were the days", like my dad! Do you have similar thoughts on classic? discuss I understand that it was on the forfront of the MMORPG industry, but it still seems older, almost 1970's to me

what would it be? sorry i cant give you my own estimate, but i would love to hear yours! I was hoping you guys could make an educated guess based on information like this, albeit crappy peice of info, crimson would be like coal, the main lvling source but more expensive because its harder to get and worth more experience. I understand that it would be still settling after the release of the update, a settled price would be nice. P.S this didnt go in questionaires because i know there will be a lively debate. i havent seen a topic like this before, i am asking because i am getting on average about 50 crimson charms per trip of cockroaches, taking about an hour along with about 100k of other items. And i am only using 20 monkfish per trip, i want an estimate of my total earnings per hour to compare with other options,

What do you think Jagex does with it's money?
nickeley102 replied to penguinpoop's topic in General Discussion
well, most employess are on a salary, they get paid a set amount every year in monthly or weekly increments. The other employees are generally shareholders, like paul and andrew, they have an invested interest in the company becuase they get paid a percentage of what is earned above what is given to the other employees as a salary. So the shareholders earn more when the company is doing well and less when the company is doing poorly. Above this, what the money is spent on is none of our business. The share holders decide where the money is spent internally (within the company) when they form a board of directors. Some shareholders are nasty "no content updates and more staff!" they loudly yell. While other, nicer shareholders interupt politely and calmly remark "more updates bring larger profits, its better in the long run, and its good for the gamers" they say "to whom we owe or small fortune" -
case and point for those arguing that the US should be allowed nuclear power but iran/korea shouldnt, know deep down, that that is specious reasoning. Philosophically you are only promoting the american cultural empire by saying that the US is allowed something because they have proven themselves to be morally superior. we all know what happens to empires...
-
thats not strictly true, solar power, wind power and hydro are all safer. There are also hazards regarding waste. The US uses their all knowing hand to stop countries like iran and north korea from producing nuclear power, but its all  for them to do it?

Does runescape have an elitist community?

Does runescape have an elitist community?
nickeley102 replied to nickeley102's topic in General Discussion
you made some valid points. But an unofficial elitist community is still an elitist community. In fact, before becoming organized, i assume this is how most of them start. I agree they made cliques from rsc, which have a lot of high lvl players, however im still going to argue that a high lvl forum and community may exist organized by players and which communicates with jagex. Even if its heresy, i think its probable. -
that doesnt seem too excessive if you ask me. and im sure if you commited yourself you could go a couple of days without doing it. I had a car crash a couple of years ago which involved a week long coma and 4 months in a wheelchair. They gave me a morphine based drug called tramadol that i began to rely on much after the pain had gone. I would take it at like 10pm, before i went to bed, and i would stay up every night till 5 in the morning laughing to my self and playing playstation. Its hard to believe i didnt realize it was an addiction back then

what was the first thing you did when YOU became p2p?
nickeley102 replied to fubol's topic in Questionnaires
it would be nice if you had something to contribute (or you may be scouting or idas due to your upcoming membership) I couldnt wait to try the newly released slayer skill and get my agility up, 2 skills that i still spend a lot of time on today. but what i did was fletch because i thought i would be a millionaire in 5mins and do lost city like everyone else -

you (2000+ is hard for me to concieve), don't get me wrong though, i think its something to be proud of. Even if there are 100 high lvlers on these forums and we assume similar numbers for other well known groups, i don't think it covers everyone. oh well, ive been wrong before. I still think an elite community is possible. Each new 90 or 80 lvl i get i expect a personlised message from jagex marking the achievement like when the queen sends you a letter when you turn 100. just because it is an achievement. -

nickeley102 replied to nickeley102's topic in General Discussion
Yeah. Oh and yes we do have lives too, kthxbai. I'm sorry, i didn't mean to offend, or imply anything. I just find it hard to imagine achieving something like 99 slayer and not seeking out other people who went through the same experience. -
looking at the high scores its obvious that there are a lot of people for whom runescape is a major (probably the major) part of their life. Now, there are only a few runescape communities like tip it, runehq, RSOF etc. So if these highly ranked players spend so much time on runescape, it stands to measure that they are also likely to be a member of a community like we are. So where do they go? do they have secret community? I know some high level players contribute under a pseudonym to avoid spam, but its unlikely this accounts for 10,000 people. I am also aware that tip it has some highly ranked players. but again i dont think this doesn't account for 10,000+ players, even over all the different help sites Do you think jagex has ever been in contact with the very well known players? Did you know: over 10,000 people have over 2000 total skill level

good topic its funny i was talking to my flatmates the other day about which shows and movies had a bigger cultural influence on our generation. what do you guys think: Simpsons or friends? both have been on tv consistently as far back as i remember Borat or napoleon dynamite? anchorman or something else which i cant remember i went for simpsons, borat and anchorman, i think they define or generation well -
they seem pretty tame for a wierd habits thread, i do the youtube thing the toothbrush thing and the eardrums thing, but i dont even know what dnd is. i always bend the bottle cap in half when i open a beer

i watch ufc but not as much as i used too, I went to some cage fights back in my hometown about 5 years ago they were bare knuckle and pretty underground. I follow a lot of the big names like chuck liddell and randy couture but it seems like the only place to watch it here is on youtube. Or the ultimate fighter which i never really liked. I have been to a few underground kickboxing events too, that was intense I also trained in MMA for about 6 months but they train exactly the same thing 6 days a week, i really need more diversity in my training so i quit. but the sparring was good, we would do 5 5 minute rounds everyday. My old sparring partner is a professional kickboxer on the K1 middlewieght division, although he keeps changing his organisation to some [cabbage]ty ko world series. He had a vale tudo fight which i saw which was pretty cool, its a really different ball game. I think they need to introduce more rules, restricting the ground and pound before it can be considered a sport and not a spectacle. at the moment there are still a lot of lucky wins. I love it how that 'street fighting biker' Tank Abbott got "found out" when he had a degree in history and he portrayed himself as some reckless goon. If nothing else UFC certainly makes for good highlight reels though!

These stories are funny but they are also heartbreaking, as people have mentioned, no one is 'that guy' without having a pretty valid explaination for it. Sounds like this guy had autism or something, i would feel horrible if i had been that callous. Ive got one anyway! there was a boy at my school called jonathan, but he insisted everyone called him pablo, pablo had long flaming red hair and a disease which meant his bones never stopped growing so he had huge ankles and elbows where the excess bone built up. Pablo used to give everyhting a go, incluing PE, and used to brag about all his hot girlfriends at church camp. This is where it gets horrible of course, one day i casually dropped a new nickname for him just to my friends, "spare ribs" i didnt think it would stick but it did, it stuck like crazy, no one called him pablo anymore. I wish i knew him now to apologise. That was the 3rd best nickname i ever gave someone, and the meanest
